After the Scumbag Alpha Heard her Inner Thoughts (GL) - Chapter 9
“Aunt Fang, you know what kind of person Chu Muqing is. She’s really busy, always caught up in meetings and social events. I’ll do my best to figure something out,” Su Wanqing said, leaving herself some room.
Chu Muqing had always been against the idea of an arranged marriage. How could she possibly help the Su family now? Especially when someone was framing the Lu family — she could barely manage her own problems.
Su Wanqing let out a long sigh.
After “Su Wanqing’s” mother passed away, it didn’t take long for Su Pingwei to remarry. Aunt Fang, whose real name was Fang Shucui, quickly became pregnant and soon gave birth to an Alpha son, earning even more favor from Su Pingwei.
Meanwhile, Su Wanqing, a Beta, was constantly suppressed at home. She wasn’t allowed to attend a good university or find a decent job; instead, she was kept at home.
Cleaning, cooking — that was her life.
She lived nothing like a proper young lady. On the rare occasions she was taken outside, she was mocked for being a country bumpkin.
She endured endless bullying. The only comfort she had were the keepsakes left behind by her mother.
Although she wasn’t the original “Su Wanqing,” she was now living under her name. She couldn’t just ignore everything.
There were still a few days until the weekend. She would wait and see.
Su Wanqing texted Lu Qinghe to ask what she wanted to eat, planning to pick it up on her way home. Lu Qinghe replied that Chu Muqing had already delivered lunch.
There was no need to order food anymore. Su Wanqing put away her phone and took the subway home.
“So much food?” she said in surprise.
On the dining table, five dishes and a soup were neatly arranged. They looked and smelled amazing.
There were both meat and vegetable dishes, and each one came with personalized condiments.
Su Wanqing licked her lips. “Sister Lu, let’s eat!”
Lu Qinghe nodded and picked up her chopsticks. She ate slowly and elegantly, while Su Wanqing had already stuffed two big bites into her mouth.
“Sister Lu, it’s only because of you that I get to eat something this delicious,” Su Wanqing said happily.
Lu Qinghe smiled. “It’s not all thanks to me — Chu Muqing wanted you to have it too.”
Su Wanqing thought to herself, Yeah, right.
Back then, Chu Muqing had fought hard against marrying into the Su family. It was only after her susceptibility period that she suddenly agreed. After fully taking control of the Chu family, she made it her mission to torment both Su Wanqing and the entire Su family.
She didn’t bankrupt the Su family or force a merger, simply because the two families’ industries didn’t overlap at all.
Lu Qinghe didn’t know why, but every time Chu Muqing was mentioned, Su Wanqing would either dodge the topic or quietly withdraw.
After all, it was something between husband and wife. It wasn’t her place to meddle too much.
“How did your interview go?” Lu Qinghe asked.
“Pretty well. I don’t think there should be any issues.”
“If it doesn’t work out, why not come work with us?” Lu Qinghe offered sincerely.
She genuinely liked Su Wanqing’s personality. Having her around would definitely make life more lively.
“No, no, I really shouldn’t,” Su Wanqing quickly refused. She didn’t want to rely on personal connections.
“Alright,” Lu Qinghe said with a smile. “But if you ever need help, just come find me.”
Three days later, Su Wanqing received an offer from WON Corporation. They asked her to report to Human Resources on Monday morning.
It was exactly what she had expected. She packed everything she needed for work and realized it was already Friday night.
After Lu Qinghe left, Yuejing Residence became as cold and quiet as Banguai Residence — not a sound to be heard.
Su Wanqing paced the living room for a while before finally collapsing onto the sofa, twirling her phone in her hands.
How should she bring it up?
How could she ask Chu Muqing without being rejected?
Chu Muqing hadn’t contacted her in five days, and Su Wanqing had enjoyed every peaceful moment. Now, having to reach out herself felt like walking into a trap.
But if she didn’t meet with Chu Muqing, Aunt Fang wouldn’t let things go. She would definitely destroy the things her mother left behind and pressure Su Pingwei into finding another job for his son.
Su Wanqing sighed heavily and finally gathered the courage to call Chu Muqing.
The call was picked up after just a few rings.
“Hello?”
Chu Muqing’s voice was deep and commanding, carrying a faint roughness through the speaker that made Su Wanqing’s heart tremble.
Gripping her phone tightly, Su Wanqing told herself, stay calm — this is a cold, heartless Alpha you’re dealing with!
“It’s me,” Su Wanqing said.
“Mm. What’s the matter?” came Chu Muqing’s calm reply.
“My father would like to invite you to dinner this weekend. Do you have time?”
“And do you want me to have time?”
Su Wanqing didn’t bother with the teasing hidden in her words. “I hope you do,” she said sincerely.
“Open the door and say that again,” Chu Muqing said.
Su Wanqing shot up from the couch, startled. What was going on?
Open the door?!
Without even thinking, Su Wanqing hurried to the entryway, her slippers slapping against the floor. She grabbed the doorknob and gently pressed it down.
Chu Muqing was standing outside, holding her phone.
“Why are you here?” Su Wanqing asked in surprise.
“I just finished a business dinner. I thought I’d drop by since it was on the way,” Chu Muqing said casually.
She walked into the living room and sat down, crossing one leg over the other. “Now, what was it you were asking me?”
“My father wants to invite you to dinner,” Su Wanqing repeated.
“Be direct,” Chu Muqing said, leaning back. “You know that’s not what I meant.”
Su Wanqing took a deep breath. “My stepmother has a son who just graduated this year. He’s a programmer. She wants me to ask you for a favor—to help him find a job.”
She laid everything out honestly.
Chu Muqing listened to the long explanation, her gaze steady. “And?”
“That’s it… there’s no ‘and,'” Su Wanqing said awkwardly.
“So, do you want me to go?” Chu Muqing suddenly found the whole situation amusing.
She uncrossed her legs and leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees. “It’s a simple thing, arranging a job for someone. But,” she said with a slight smile, “businesspeople are driven by profit. What’s in it for me?”
Su Wanqing was at a loss for words.
“Maybe you should ask Aunt Fang,” Chu Muqing said lightly, “see what kind of ‘benefits’ she can offer you to bargain with me.”
Su Wanqing had nothing to offer right now. She couldn’t promise anything.
“The only connection I have with the Su family is you,” Chu Muqing said plainly. “I only care about you. The rest of them mean nothing to me.”
“Then what do you want?” Su Wanqing asked quietly.
Since Chu Muqing had already come all the way here, she had to at least try. If Chu Muqing ultimately refused, she could only give up on recovering her mother’s belongings.
“Come here,” Chu Muqing said.
Between them was a low coffee table, with two glasses of water on it. Despite spending so much time around Chu Muqing, Su Wanqing was still a little afraid of her, always keeping some distance without even realizing it.
She hesitated, but eventually stood up, walked over, and crouched down in front of Chu Muqing.
Chu Muqing lifted her hand and pinched Su Wanqing’s chin lightly. “Are you afraid of me?”
Su Wanqing shook her head.
From this angle, she had no choice but to look directly into Chu Muqing’s face. Her eyes were beautiful, and the long lashes at the corners gave her a soft, seductive look.
“Think of a way to make me happy,” Chu Muqing said, releasing her chin and leaning back against the sofa. “If you can, I’ll go with you tomorrow.”
Su Wanqing flopped backward, half-sitting on the floor.
Make Chu Muqing happy…
That was no small task. In the novel, Chu Muqing had always been moody, quick to anger, and rarely showed true happiness.
What could she do to make her happy?
Suddenly, Su Wanqing remembered a small detail she had read before. Desperate, she decided to give it a shot. Pushing herself up with her hands, she placed them on either side of Chu Muqing on the sofa—and kissed her lightly on the corner of her mouth.
Chu Muqing’s eyes widened in shock, her entire body freezing.
What just happened?!
Su Wanqing kissed her?!
Su Wanqing actually kissed her?!
It was insane!
Chu Muqing had always hated being touched, especially on the lips.
Her hand instinctively gripped Su Wanqing’s shoulder, ready to push her away—but then, she hesitated.
For some reason, she didn’t hate it…
“Eight o’clock this weekend. Xu Chengke will come pick you up,” Chu Muqing said abruptly, pushing Su Wanqing off of her and heading straight for the door, her footsteps quick and slightly flustered, almost like she was fleeing.
Su Wanqing lay sprawled across the sofa, grinning to herself.
Because of her special gland condition, there were very few people Chu Muqing could bond with. She had never been in love, never even kissed anyone before.
And now—
When she kissed Chu Muqing for the first time, Su Wanqing remembered that Chu Muqing had been genuinely happy. Later, something must have happened—Chu Muqing’s personality had completely changed.
But for now, this was the only method that might work.
So, the sudden kiss would surely catch her off guard.
As long as it had that effect, Su Wanqing would be one step closer to getting her to agree.
On Sunday at 8 a.m., Xu Chengke arrived downstairs right on time.
Sitting in the car, Su Wanqing still felt a little excited.
“Assistant Xu, how was your boss’s mood yesterday?” she asked.
“About the same as usual,” Xu Chengke replied, not daring to gossip about Chu Muqing in front of Su Wanqing.
In truth, Chu Muqing had been distracted at work all day. She kept zoning out and even took longer than usual to sign documents.
“Huh?”
Su Wanqing was a little surprised.
Such strong self-control?
She thought briefly: As expected of an heir — possessing patience and restraint beyond that of ordinary people.
The restaurant was chosen by Aunt Fang. It was the largest five-star restaurant in North City, and she had booked a private room there a month in advance. That was why she had pressured Su Wanqing to make it happen this weekend.
After arriving, Su Wanqing followed the name of the private room Aunt Fang had given her and went upstairs to find it.
Just as she reached the elevator, someone tapped her lightly on the shoulder. She turned around.
“Su Ningxuan?” Su Wanqing asked. “Why are you here?”
“I overheard your call with Mom the other day,” Su Ningxuan said softly. “If this is too hard for you, you don’t need to worry about me.”
“It’s not hard,” Su Wanqing said calmly.
Su Ningxuan had just turned twenty this year, a top student with excellent grades. She treated her half-sister — same father, different mothers — decently enough, though Aunt Fang often drove a wedge between them.
Their relationship was neither close nor hostile.
Su Ningxuan led her into the private room. As soon as they entered, Aunt Fang was the first to rush over.
“Qingqing, where’s President Chu?” she asked eagerly.
“She’s busy with work. She said she’d come after she finishes,” Su Wanqing answered.
“Are you sure?” Aunt Fang pressed.
“Not really. She might not make it,” Su Wanqing said bluntly.
“Didn’t you say she must come?!” Aunt Fang raised her voice.
“What am I supposed to do? Just order her around?” Su Wanqing shot back. “Who am I to guarantee she’ll come just because I asked?”
Seeing that a fight was about to break out, Su Ningxuan quickly stepped in to separate them.
“Mom, come on. Sister Chu’s probably just tied up with work. If she wasn’t busy, she would’ve been here already,” she soothed.
“You’re right,” Aunt Fang muttered, regaining her “kind mother” facade since her son was watching. She didn’t push the issue any further.
The truth was, Aunt Fang had lost her temper because she was afraid Su Wanqing had lied and hadn’t even spoken to Chu Muqing at all.
This private room cost 30,000 yuan for just one day — the thought of wasting that much money made her heart ache.
Ten minutes later, Su Pingwei arrived.
Looking around the private room, he frowned. “President Chu hasn’t come yet?”
“She said she had a meeting this morning,” Su Wanqing replied.
At this point, even Su Wanqing wasn’t entirely sure if Chu Muqing would show up, but since she had agreed, she probably wouldn’t break her word.
Half an hour passed. Everyone was getting hungry.
Aunt Fang shot an impatient glance at Su Wanqing. “Did you even tell her about tonight?”
“I’m not like some people,” Su Wanqing said coldly. “I don’t lie without blinking.”
“Pingwei, look at her! No manners at all. Such a disgrace to the Chu family!” Aunt Fang snapped.
“You’re right,” Su Wanqing said sarcastically. “After all, I didn’t have a real mother to teach me.”
Stepmother or not, that was still a slap in Aunt Fang’s face.
“Pingwei! Look at her!” Aunt Fang turned, furious.
“Alright, Mom, that’s enough,” Su Ningxuan quickly said, trying to calm her down.
“Everything I’m doing is for you!” Aunt Fang pointed at her son, upset. “And here you are siding with her!”
“I can find a job on my own,” Su Ningxuan said firmly.
Su Pingwei finally spoke. “Qingqing, did you really ask President Chu about dinner?”
His words made it obvious he didn’t trust her.
The anger that had been simmering inside Su Wanqing boiled over.
She thought about everything she had done just to get Chu Muqing to come — and this was the thanks she got?
How had the original Su Wanqing survived in such a family for all these years?
“No, I didn’t. So what?” Su Wanqing sneered. “If you want to use me to curry favor with her, you’d better adjust your attitude.”
“Oh, I see. You marry into the Chu family and suddenly you’re too good for the Su family?” Aunt Fang pointed at her, voice shrill. “Ungrateful little traitor!”
The more Aunt Fang thought about her 30,000 yuan going down the drain, the angrier she became.
She grabbed a cup and threw it at Su Wanqing.
Su Wanqing dodged, but the cup still grazed her shoulder, sending a sharp pain through it.
At that very moment, Chu Muqing entered the private room.
A porcelain cup rolled to a stop at her feet. Thanks to its high quality, it hadn’t even broken.
Chu Muqing lifted her gaze and swept it coldly over everyone in the room.
Her voice was casual, but her eyes were sharp.
“Oh? What’s all this about? Looks like my dear mother-in-law is in quite the mood.”
She bent down, picked up the cup, and turned it over in her hand, inspecting it as if it were a piece of art.
But in the next second — the cup in her palm might just shatter.
