- Chapter 10 - How Did You Know My Scent Was Jasmine Tea?
Although Yan Run didn’t love her either, she had never been one to tolerate being looked down upon—especially not in front of everyone here.
She took a sip of the refreshing tea, trying to suppress the raging storm inside her.
Wei Qin, after taking a few bites, deliberately made things difficult for Yu Wenxi. “Wenxi, which of these dishes did you make?”
Yu Wenxi replied, “None of them.”
“Oh?” The crowd was visibly surprised.
Yan Run gave a faint smile. “Sorry to disappoint you all—my wife doesn’t cook, and I wouldn’t let her even if she wanted to. So I made everything myself.”
Xu Zhaozhao quickly nodded in agreement. “That’s right! We can vouch for that.”
Wei Qin frowned. “But didn’t the show say couples were supposed to cook together? Isn’t that against the rules?”
【Seriously, why is Wei Qin always picking on our Wenxi?】
【How is this picking on her? Yu Wenxi literally doesn’t do anything. Wei Qin’s just following the rules and calling her out.】
Yan Run smiled. “Miss Wei, where in the rules does it say both partners have to cook? Isn’t the point to show a loving, harmonious relationship? I cook, and my wife sits nearby and watches me cook. Isn’t that romantic enough for you?”
Her tone was pointed, and Wei Qin’s face clearly stiffened at the remark.
Ji Zhiye quickly stepped in to smooth things over. “Alright, alright, we’re all going to be friends here. Let’s focus on the food, shall we?”
Yu Wenxi gave a noncommittal “Mm,” then glanced sideways at Yan Run—who, unfazed, simply continued eating.
Ji Zhiye turned to Wei Qin and placed a few pieces of braised pork into her bowl. “Qin Qin, try this. I think it’s really good.”
【Hold up, who’s the Alpha in the wheelchair?】
【That’s Ji Zhiye, the eldest daughter of the Ji family—rumored to be the only person who’s ever seriously pursued the Best Actress. Haven’t you heard?】
【She’s got such a dominant look, but she acts like a total simp.】
Wei Qin calmly swapped out everything in her bowl, giving Ji Zhiye absolutely no face.
Ji Zhiye froze for a second, then forced a smile.
Yan Run watched all this unfold and quietly lost interest in the Ji heiress. If it was me, she thought, I wouldn’t bother liking someone like Wei Qin, let alone humiliate myself like this.
Meng Qieyi, at least, had some sense of boundaries. She didn’t directly serve Yu Wenxi but gestured toward a dish instead. “This shredded pork and eggs dish is pretty good—you should try it.”
Before Yu Wenxi could react, Yan Run picked up some and placed it into her bowl. “She’s my wife—let me take care of her.”
Yan Run deliberately emphasized the word wife, clearly wanting to show everyone just how attentive she was to Yu Wenxi.
But with Wei Qin present, there was no way Yu Wenxi could enjoy her meal.
She only took a few bites before retreating to the bedroom.
As expected, the show had arranged one bedroom for them to share.
Luckily, there was a couch—decent enough.
Naturally, Yan Run claimed the couch. As she tidied up the bedding, she asked, “You and Meng Qieyi were college friends?”
“Yes.”
“She likes you?”
“I think so.”
“And you? Do you like her?”
“No. If I did, would I have gotten a marriage certificate with you?”
“If she likes you and you don’t feel the same, why stay friends?”
“She had never confessed, so I just act like I don’t know. And besides, I never reach out to her—it’s always her who contacts me. I only ever wanted to be friends.”
Yan Run didn’t respond. She stepped outside, unsettled by Yu Wenxi’s answer.
Out on the balcony, someone else was already standing there.
Yan Run crossed her arms. “If your leg’s already healed, why are you still using a wheelchair?”
Ji Zhiye glanced at her. “Because I want her to pity me.”
Yan Run chuckled. “What’s there to pity?”
Ji Zhiye said softly, “It’s the first time I’ve ever liked someone. I can’t seem to let go. I don’t want to give up.”
Yan Run fell silent.
“You’re not going to win her over like that, you know.”
Ji Zhiye looked frustrated. “But I don’t know what else to do.”
Yan Run patted her shoulder. “Call me ‘Teacher’ and I’ll coach you.”
Ji Zhiye scoffed, “You just want to take advantage of me.”
Yan Run shrugged. “Then don’t. Suit yourself.”
After venting a bit outside, Yan Run finally returned to the bedroom in a much better mood.
Yu Wenxi had already changed into a black obsidian silk pajama set.
Her hair was lazily draped over her shoulders, revealing her porcelain-white face.
“How did you know my scent was jasmine tea?”
Yan Run sat down on the couch. “I just said it randomly.”
“That randomly? And you got it right?”
“Well, nobody else would know, anyway.”
Yu Wenxi gave a faint smile. “You weren’t bad today. I didn’t expect someone who never cooked before to actually make decent food. You might be a natural.”
Yan Run turned over, uncertain herself how she managed to cook just from watching a few videos.
Maybe she really was gifted.
When Yu Wenxi woke up the next morning, Yan Run was already gone.
She didn’t think much of it and went downstairs after doing her makeup—only to see Yan Run emerging from the kitchen with a bowl of porridge.
The porridge had just finished cooking and was steaming hot. As she set it down, Yan Run let out several sharp gasps: “So hot, so hot—ow!”
Yu Wenxi couldn’t help but giggle.
“This for me?”
The others were still asleep, or had already left for work.
Yan Run nodded.
“You’re really thoughtful,” Yu Wenxi said sweetly.
Somehow, it still felt a little fake.
The live chat didn’t seem fazed. Whenever the other couples interacted, viewers would comment how sweet they were. But when it came to these two, it was either praise for how stunning Yu Wenxi looked or complaints about how fickle Yan Run was.
“Where are you going today?” she asked.
“I’ve got filming, but it’s almost wrapped up, so there’s no rush,” Yu Wenxi replied as she sipped her porridge. “What about you?”
The subtext was clear—Yu Wenxi wanted Yan Run to drop her off at the set.
But Yan Run didn’t catch the hint.
“I need to head to the office.”
In reality, she went to meet Qin Zishu.
Qin Zishu was puzzled by the sudden visit. “Missing your baby already?”
Yan Run pushed away the overly friendly Qin Zishu, deadpan: “What kind of person was I before?”
Qin Zishu blinked. “Why are you asking me that all of a sudden?”
“I’m just curious,” Yan Run said plainly.
Qin Zishu replied, “Well, we grew up together, so of course I know a lot about you. You were actually really well-behaved when you were younger. Then you met Yu Wenxi and started pursuing her like crazy. After getting hurt, you started spiraling—became a full-blown flirt, hopping from one Omega to another for one-night stands…”
“That doesn’t sound like me at all!”. Yan Run sais.
Qin Zishu shrugged. “Of course it’s not like you. You became that way because of Yu Wenxi.”
“Then why did I even like her in the first place?”
“I don’t know. Maybe it started at one of those family banquets. The first time you saw her in a black evening gown, you were completely taken. Probably just lust at first sight. But after that, you wouldn’t shut up about her—you talked about Yu Wenxi nonstop. You’ve apparently been chasing her for years.”
Yan Run was stunned. That long?
“And then?”
“Then, like I said, you got hurt and started chasing after beautiful Omegas left and right—one after another, night after night. You told me yourself. I always figured Yu Wenxi really did a number on you.”
Qin Zishu sighed and patted her on the shoulder. “Maybe forgetting everything isn’t such a bad thing. You can leave a lot of the pain behind.”
But Yan Run still felt like she hadn’t heard the full story—at least, not from the person who mattered most. She figured she needed to hear it from Yu Wenxi herself.
That evening, she bought a bouquet of flowers and went to find her.
Although the livestreams only started during their stay at the Love Cabin or during scheduled dates, the film set was always full of people. Still, Yan Run knew she had to keep up appearances.
Yu Wenxi seemed genuinely pleased when she received the flowers. She invited Yan Run to talk in her car.
The others tactfully kept their distance, though most of them assumed this was just more fake affection for the cameras—a performance between two people in a political marriage.
“You suddenly came to see me. Is there nothing urgent going on at the company? Or… is there something you need to talk about?” Yu Wenxi was sharp. One glance at Yan Run’s expression and she could tell something was up.
Yan Run got straight to the point. “My friend told me I pursued you for years. Is that true?”
Yu Wenxi was quiet for a moment. “Yes.”
“She also said I changed after being hurt by you—became… promiscuous. Is that true?”
Yu Wenxi frowned. “And what does your heartbreak have to do with me?”
Yan Run froze, then quickly said, “I’m sorry.”
Seeing how fast she apologized, Yu Wenxi didn’t stay angry. “You used to parade pretty Omegas around in front of me like trophies. I just didn’t get it. If you wanted to show off, couldn’t you do it to your friends?
Why show me? Were you insane?”
Yan Run: “…”
Murmuring to herself, she said, “Why would I turn into someone like that?”
Yu Wenxi replied, “I’ve always wondered too. When I first met you, you were obedient, well-mannered, and listened to your parents. You were perfectly proper. But a few years later, you were completely messed up. I honestly think one of your friends must’ve led you astray.”
Yan Run was speechless.
Yu Wenxi looked at her, a faint trace of mystery in her eyes. “Why are you asking about this all of a sudden?”
“I just wanted to know why the viewers hate me so much. Was I really like that? My friend said…”
“What did she say?” Yu Wenxi blinked.
Yan Run began to suspect that even Qin Zishu’s version of the story was skewed. Still, despite her suspicions about Yu Wenxi, she had no evidence either way—neither woman’s account could be fully trusted.
Yu Wenxi gave a soft “Oh,” then murmured to herself, “I get it. Your friend hates me, doesn’t she? She must’ve been bad-mouthing me behind my back.” As she spoke, she even put on a pitiful expression.
Yan Run, naturally weak to a vulnerable-looking Omega, immediately rushed to explain, “That’s not true!” Then, struck by a sudden thought, she added, “Wait—why would you assume she was bad-mouthing you?
All I said was that she told me some things about you.”
Yu Wenxi glared at her. “So instead of comforting me, you’re going to interrogate me now?”
Yan Run was stunned into silence. Panic flickered across her face.
Yu Wenxi continued, muttering, “If you’re going to doubt everything I say, I’ve got nothing more to add. She said you were the one who chased me, didn’t she?”
Yan Run gave a quiet “Mm.”
“Well, she’s right. You did like me—back then. But if you ended up hurt, that’s not my fault. Still, from your friend’s perspective, I guess it’s only natural to hold a grudge.”
The car fell into an awkward, heavy silence.
It was clear Yan Run had gone too far. Her earlier questions now felt cruel and unfair, especially seeing the Omega across from her looking hurt.
“I’m tired,” Yu Wenxi suddenly said. “Drive me somewhere. I want to go for a ride.”
Yan Run agreed softly. After informing her agent, she drove the car toward the quiet suburbs.
Yu Wenxi leaned back and spoke nonchalantly, “There was this one time you went absolutely crazy, screaming at me like a lunatic. You said I lied to you. I had no idea what you were talking about. I mean, when did I ever lie to you? You were the one chasing me. You said you didn’t love me—well, guess what? I never loved you either. That whole mess made me want to cut you out of my life for good. If it wasn’t for my grandma insisting on you, I would’ve kicked you to the curb long ago.”
Yan Run: “…”
Guess I used to have a pretty bad temper, she thought.
Yu Wenxi suddenly asked, “Are you really planning to give up your playgirl ways?”
The question came out of nowhere.
Without hesitation, Yan Run replied, “Of course. I don’t even feel any physical desire anymore.”
Yu Wenxi let out a surprised laugh. “For an Alpha, that basically means something’s broken, doesn’t it?”
Yan Run: “…”
Yu Wenxi glanced down at her stomach. “I’m hungry.”
“Then let’s eat.” Yan Run replied.
“Okay.”
They found a high-end restaurant. After placing their order, Yan Run was unsure what to say—until she ended up asking a question she probably shouldn’t have.
“Meng Qieyi seems to have liked you for a long time. Do you really not feel anything for her?”
Yan Run wasn’t usually one to dig into things like this. But when it came to this, she just wanted to know Yu Wenxi’s thoughts.
Yu Wenxi’s eyes took on a slightly flirtatious glint. Her lips curled upward. “What? Do you want me to like her?”
Yan Run was momentarily stunned by her gaze. Trying to act indifferent, she replied, “Up to you. A year from now, you can like whoever you want—even me.”
Yu Wenxi let out a soft “Oh,” then said, “Well, I could like her right now, too.”
Yan Run’s heart skipped a beat. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Yu Wenxi said lazily, “Haven’t you read the comments? We may be legally married, but a lot of people think I’m a better match for Meng Qieyi. Seems like people aren’t too happy with you. Even with that red marriage certificate, they’re still rooting for me to cheat—”
Before she could finish, Yan Run cut her off. “I believe you wouldn’t do that. The Yu family’s reputation is on the line. And as long as we have that certificate, I’m your legal spouse. No one has the right to covet what’s mine.”
Yu Wenxi took a sip of wine, her cheeks glowing red. “Very law-abiding of you. Too bad I’m not a particularly moral person.”
Yan Run: “…”
“But with everyone disapproving of you, what are you going to do?”
Yan Run paused before answering, “I’ll win them over.”
She had never been someone who could tolerate being looked down on. If the world doubted her, she’d make them respect her—on her own terms.
Yu Wenxi pressed her lips together and murmured, “Then I look forward to it.”
There seems to a part missing from either the end of ch 8 or the start of ch 9
Yan Run was asked a question at the end of 8, but it’s skipped and different people at talking at the start of 9
Hello. I’m really sorry about the mix-up — I mistakenly labeled Chapter 7 as Chapter 8 and left out the actual Chapter 8. It’s all fixed now. Thank you so much for reading!
