- Chapter 12 - Her Arms Wrapped Around My Neck
Wei Qin chose to go on a date with Meng Qieyi. Though Meng wasn’t thrilled, she had no authority to stop Yan Run and Yu Wenxi from going out together. After all, barging in between a legally married couple—even one the public still doubted—would only make her the target of mass criticism.
Especially when it meant offending the powerful Yan and Yu families.
Wei Qin enjoyed herself, basking in Alpha attention while soaking up screen time for her fans.
But in truth, she had joined the show mainly to avoid Ji Zhiye’s pestering—and to prove once and for all who was more beautiful between her and Yu Wenxi.
The two had never shared a stage. Not even at award shows had they stood side by side.
Yet ever since they both became household names, debates about who was the It-girl—who was the true top-tier beauty of the post-2000s generation—never stopped trending.
Wei Qin loathed the comparisons. In her heart, she firmly believed she was far more attractive than Yu Wenxi.
By a factor of a hundred.
So, when the variety show offered them the chance to appear together, she seized it—figuring it was time to make her move in both romance and reputation. She was older now, her career well-established. Dating wouldn’t hurt.
Unfortunately, one Alpha contestant turned out to be Yu Wenxi’s friend, and the other was Ji Zhiye. The whole setup felt tailor-made to irritate her.
Even after appearing on the first episode, viewer opinion remained starkly divided. She figured it was probably because she hadn’t interacted enough with Yu Wenxi on camera.
“This café…” Meng Qieyi was rambling about the ambiance and decor. “It’s actually owned by my dad, so I know it inside and out.”
Wei Qin smiled politely. “That’s impressive.”
Why on earth would I care about your family café?
【Why do I feel like the vibe between the actress and Meng Qieyi is so awkward?】
【Because Meng Qieyi likes Yu Wenxi, duh.】
【What if these two end up together? Possible?】
【Doubt it. The simp squad just entered the chat.】
Meanwhile, Xiao Liangmu’s friends had already tracked down Wei Qin and Meng Qieyi’s location. Coincidentally, Ji Zhiye also arrived at the café in her wheelchair.

—Why do they all call you Second Dog?
—It hurts, sweetheart.
Xu Chenghuan, distressed by her daughter’s amnesia, had been even more heartbroken seeing her teased online by that nickname. Maternal instinct made her feel it was deeply unfair.
—It’s okay, Mom.
—I really don’t care what they call me.
Yan Run put away her phone.
“Where are we going today?”
A soft voice floated down the stairs.
Yu Wenxi was wearing a flowing light-blue dress. Her long, straight hair cascaded elegantly down her shoulders.
In that moment, the usually aloof celebrity transformed into a graceful, almost ethereal artist. Every gesture oozed poise, especially her swan-like neck—slender, flawless, mesmerizing.
【Damn! How can a woman look this good?!】
【Ugh! So wasted on Second Dog!】
【I refuse to believe this isn’t a PR marriage. No way Wenxi would actually fall for second dog.】
Yan Run remained focused. Everyone was gushing over Wenxi’s beauty, but no one seemed to notice the soft pink blush creeping up her own ears.
Just then, loud cries from upstairs shattered her thoughts.
“Yu Shen! How could you do this to me? Waaahh!”
It was Xu Zhaozhao, sobbing.
“Should I check on them?” Yan Run looked to Yu Wenxi.
“No need,” Wenxi replied calmly. “It’s not our business.”
Obediently, Yan Run nodded. The sun outside was strong, so she stepped out first and opened an umbrella, shading Yu Wenxi from the glare.
【Whoa! Second Dog’s finally showing some manners.】
【Fake as hell. They know there are cameras everywhere.】
【Right? Don’t forget, this show is produced by Mengua—owned by the Yan family. Total PR move.】
Once inside the car, Yan Run turned on the A/C and drove them out of the Love Town set.
As she glanced at Yu Wenxi’s pristine face and her subtly flushed lips, Yan Run suddenly recalled what Ji Zhiye had said the night before:
—So, you and Miss Yu… are you actually in a political marriage?
—Why should I tell you anything?
—You don’t have to. I already know.
—Miss Yu’s personality is even harder to win over than Qin Qin’s. Qin may act proud and cold, but deep down she’s easily swayed by kindness.
—But Yu Wenxi is different. She might look gentle, but she’s ice inside. No Alpha could ever truly catch her eye.
—You’re impressive, but it’s no surprise she’s not into you.
—If you really want me to believe this marriage is real… why don’t you two kiss in front of me? Heh.
Yan Run had nearly gotten a nosebleed from sheer embarrassment. She could barely manage to hold hands with Wenxi, let alone kiss her.
Still… a kiss was the most direct way to shut people up.
“We’re going somewhere we used to go together,” she said quietly.
Yu Wenxi visibly stiffened.
【Wait… somewhere they’ve been together? Did they really date before?】
【Scripted. It’s always scripted. Don’t fall for it.】
Yan Run took her to a lavender garden, where tall purple blooms stretched across the landscape.
“Remember this place?” Yan Run asked with a smile. “I brought you here once.”
Yu Wenxi’s eyes flickered with surprise and something almost like joy—before she quickly masked it behind her usual poise. With cameras nearby, she forced a cheerful smile. “Of course.”
Yan Run reached out and gently took her hand. Though her body still reacted stiffly to Omega touch, this time she managed to suppress it.
“Let me show you around.”
The two strolled through the garden, chatting quietly as they admired the flowers.
【Ugh, boring. No chemistry whatsoever.】
【Fake couples always feel off. Look at Wenxi—her smile is so fake.】
【Why is this even live-streamed? Skip it, please.】
【I’m switching to Yu Shen and Xu Zhaozhao. Way more drama.】
【Don’t bother. They’ve been arguing all day. Haven’t even left the house.】
【Go watch the Actress Love Triangle instead. It’s CHAOTIC. I’m shook.】
“Who told you we’d been here before?” Wenxi asked in a low voice.
“I asked a friend,” Yan Run said. “They told me I mentioned bringing you here once. Surprised?”
Yu Wenxi’s lips curved into a half-smile. “Very. That day it was raining. You insisted we see the flowers anyway. My shoes got muddy, my clothes soaked, and I even slipped and fell. Do you really think I want to relive that memory?”
Yan Run’s smile froze.
That’s what happened?
What Wenxi didn’t mention, though, was that she’d actually agreed to go with her that day. Or that something else had happened afterward.
Up ahead, a small creek blocked their path.
Wenxi wore delicate new sandals that would definitely be ruined if she tried to cross.
Without a word, Yan Run swept her up into a bridal carry.
Yu Wenxi yelped, wrapping her arms instinctively around Yan Run’s neck. “Could you maybe give me a little warning next time?”
“Sorry,” Yan Run said sincerely. “Didn’t think it through. I’ll just carry you across.”
【Nooooo! Get your hands off our goddess, Second Dog!】
【Put her down! I volunteer as tribute!】
【Stop pretending to be a gentlewoman! Fight me instead!】
【AHHHHHHH I CAN’T—THIS IS TOO CUTE】
【Please. It’s clearly scripted. Don’t get baited.】
【Script or not, I’m shipping it!】
A small but growing group of fans had started to warm up to Yan Run. Though just a dozen or so for now, it marked progress—especially after she stood up for Wenxi against Wei Qin.
Despite being lean and only six centimeters taller, Yan Run carried Wenxi with ease, as if she weighed nothing.
As she stepped carefully across the stream, she mumbled under her breath, “Last time, you slipped and fell. I won’t let that happen again.”
Yu Wenxi’s eyes widened, her heart skipping a beat, though she quickly masked it with a blink.
