- Chapter 14 - Not Bad Just Now, Try Harder Next Time
If he could win the favor of Second Miss Yan, wouldn’t he soar to the top?
Even though she was still technically married, having a second household on the side wasn’t a problem—right?
Han Shu couldn’t help inching closer. As a Beta, he didn’t have pheromones to attract an Alpha, so he deliberately sprayed on a cologne with a faint aphrodisiac note. He hovered near Yan Run, hoping she’d catch a whiff.
But Yan Run remained focused and unaffected. All she sensed was the increasingly toxic air around her—but she didn’t think much of it.
Carrying out a tray of tea, she noticed Ji Zhiye had returned as well.
Ji Zhiye was staring at Wei Qin with a look of bitter resentment—clearly today’s date hadn’t gone as planned.
It was unclear whether Yu Chen and Xu Zhaozhao had gone on a date, but they came down from upstairs together.
Yan Run looked at them—they appeared totally fine, as if the fight from that morning had never happened. They walked in arm-in-arm, greeting everyone affectionately.
Soon after, Xu Zhaozhao nestled into Yu Chen’s arms, blushing as she gently patted his chest and teased, “Not bad just now—next time, try harder!”
Yan Run shivered slightly.
Wei Qin rolled her eyes. “You two really have no shame, showing off like that right in front of us.”
Xu Zhaozhao giggled, covering her mouth. “We’re just used to it—it’s a couple thing.”
Wei Qin then turned to Yu Wenxi, her eyes glinting with mischief. “Wenxi, come to think of it, I’ve never seen you two hold hands or hug. Aren’t wives supposed to be even more affectionate than couples?”
Wang Yunfan chimed in, “That’s true. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you two hold hands.”
The moment those words dropped—
Even the still-sulking Ji Zhiye perked up to look at them.
【Because it’s obviously a fake marriage. What else?】
【Forget hugging—they’ve probably barely even held hands. I bet Wenxi wouldn’t let her.】
【Can’t wait to see how Yan Run wriggles her way out of this.】
【Just say it’s fake already.】
【With her cowardice, what excuse could she even come up with?】
Yan Run offered a smile. “I’m a little reserved. It’s hard to let go in front of so many people.”
Wei Qin grinned, pressing further. “That’s fine. Look at Zhaozhao and Yu Chen—they’re practically kissing in front of us. After all, the show brought in real couples to sprinkle dog food around as a demonstration. You two better not forget the whole purpose of this program.”
She was clearly baiting them—trying to see how they’d get out of this one.
Meng Qieyi cleared her throat. “Alright, maybe Miss Yan’s just shy. Let’s give her some time to warm up.”
“What’s there to be shy about?” Yu Wenxi suddenly laughed. She stepped forward, past everyone else, and walked right up to Yan Run.
Her smile turned flirtatious as she playfully hooked a finger into the collar of Yan Run’s shirt.
“In private, she actually loves kissing me. She’s usually the one who starts it. But now—” Yu Wenxi’s lips curled as her voice dropped an octave, “I guess it’s my turn.”
Without giving her time to react, she leaned in and kissed her.
Everyone froze in place. Even Ji Zhiye, who was still pretending her leg hurt, stood up in shock to get a better look—before quickly sitting down again once she realized how obvious that was.
【AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH】
【Did they just kiss?!?】
【No way. No way. Why did Wenxi kiss her first?!】
【There must be something going on behind the scenes—maybe the Yu family’s in trouble and needs this marriage. Wenxi did this to protect her family’s reputation!】
【My eyes! MY EYES!!】
【This has to be scripted! Wenxi’s an actress—what’s one little kiss to her?】
Their kiss quickly shot to the top of the trending charts, igniting fierce online debate. Netizens demanded Yan Run pay with her life for “stealing” their goddess.
Back at home, He Yunzhi and Yu Huanzhu, still watching the livestream, glanced at each other.
Yu Huanzhu murmured, “It finally happened.”
He Yunzhi chuckled lightly, saying nothing.
Though the kiss had only lasted a second, to Yan Run, it was overwhelming.
She had just been kissed—by an Omega.
And in front of everyone, no less…
Yu Wenxi had only kissed her briefly, but Yan Run’s face was burning so red it didn’t seem normal.
Ji Zhiye bit her finger and mumbled, “Should we take her to a hospital? Her face is red enough to bleed.”
She couldn’t help but wonder: Wait… was she actually just shy this whole time?
“No need,” Yu Wenxi said casually. “You all go ahead and have fun. She’s just really shy.”
And with that, she took her Alpha by the hand and led her upstairs.
Wei Qin watched the whole thing unfold, realization dawning on her.
As an actress, she could tell when someone was acting—and this time, Yu Wenxi wasn’t.
Yu Wenxi always had a calm, unreadable expression, making it hard to tell if she really liked someone.
But judging from Yan Run’s reaction… was it really just shyness?
She scoffed inwardly. What, just because it’s her first kiss, she’s completely stunned?
Smirking triumphantly, she raised her teacup and took a sip—only to catch Ji Zhiye shooting her a resentful look. She laughed coldly and turned to leave. Ji Zhiye had no choice but to follow.
—
Inside the room, Yu Wenxi had pulled Yan Run aside. Yan Run’s face was still burning red.
“Hey,” Yu Wenxi waved a hand in front of her. “Everyone’s gone. You can come back to life now.”
But Yan Run was still lost in the moment—recalling the feeling of that kiss.
The Omega’s lips had been cool and soft, carrying a faint jasmine scent. That fragrance had spread to every nerve of her Alpha body, rising to her heart, lingering in her soul.
And she didn’t want to let it go.
“No!”
Yan Run quickly forced herself to suppress the thoughts in her mind.
How could she possibly be… reluctant to let go? It must be the pheromones at work!
“You’re still blushing,” Yu Wenxi said, looking at her strangely. “Should I get you a sedative?”
She turned to leave, but suddenly felt weight behind her — Yan Run had wrapped her in a tight embrace. Yu Wenxi could feel the heat radiating from her skin and heard her stammer, “Can I… can I hug you in advance? That way, I won’t be so shy next time.”
Yu Wenxi gave a faint, teasing smile. “Sure.”
Yan Run held her for a long while. Apart from her racing heart, she didn’t feel uncomfortable at all.
The nausea she used to feel after waking from amnesia — gone, as if it had never existed.
Back then, even seeing online comments about intimacy between Omegas would make her want to vomit.
She couldn’t believe this. She tightened her embrace, burying her face into Yu Wenxi’s dark, silky hair.
So fragrant… A hint of lime, and a faint scent of jasmine tea…
It felt as if she’d fallen into a garden full of jasmine blossoms — being caressed, kissed, even trampled by it.
Her heart pounded faster and faster. Even her voice trembled slightly as she let out a soft gasp.
It was so familiar… Familiar to the point of feeling like a dream. What was it that made her feel this way — this reluctant to part?
Yu Wenxi immediately sensed something was wrong.
“You done sniffing me yet?”
“Huh?”
Yu Wenxi gently pushed Yan Run to sit her down.
Yan Run still didn’t quite know what was happening, lowering her head in embarrassment. “Sorry… I don’t even know why I just…”
She looked up, just in time to see Yu Wenxi lift her leg and — sit right on her lap.
Yu Wenxi hooked her arms around Yan Run’s neck, her expression alluring. “If you don’t mind, I can sit on your lap too.”
Thump—thump—thump—
Yan Run’s heartbeat was nearly deafening. But instead of feeling disgusted, she felt… breathless.
Especially when she inhaled that sweet scent nestled behind Yu Wenxi’s neck. Her ears flushed bright red. That scent invaded her senses and weakened her resistance. Something within her started to stir — something raw and instinctive.
The kind of craving that only an Alpha could understand.
Since losing her memory, Yan Run had forgotten what it felt like to spend an intimate night with an Omega. Forgotten the countless pheromones she’d once experienced. Forgotten the techniques she once had as an Alpha.
Suddenly, her mind cleared for a moment. She sprang up and bolted to the bathroom — to vomit.
Yu Wenxi frowned, her expression unreadable.
She hadn’t even fully sat on her lap yet. Was it really that unbearable?

Outside, in the courtyard.
“Qin Qin, wait up!” Ji Zhiye wheeled herself quickly after Wei Qin, who ignored her completely.
It was strange. They had only accidentally run into each other in the restroom. Ji Zhiye had merely taken a wrong turn. Wei Qin had misjudged her and yelled a few insults, but now this woman wouldn’t stop following her.
Wasn’t this the textbook definition of a stalker?
Unable to hold back anymore, Wei Qin snapped, “Stop following me!”
“Watch out!”
Ji Zhiye’s voice rang out just in time. Wei Qin sensed something falling from above.
A blur of motion — Ji Zhiye rushed over, shoved her out of the way, and was struck herself.
A loud crack followed.
Wei Qin’s heart jumped. She scrambled to her feet and saw that Ji Zhiye had been struck by a large falling tree branch — right on her leg.
“You… are you okay?” she asked, gently touching her.
Ji Zhiye’s lips were pale, but her gaze was steady. “I’m fine… As long as you’re okay.”
“But you—” Wei Qin was at a loss. What could she say to Ji Zhiye? Call her stupid? Reckless? Say she risked her life to save an Omega who just cussed her out?
“I’m really okay, Qin Qin. You don’t have to worry about me.” Ji Zhiye even forced a pained smile to comfort her.
Wei Qin thought about their earlier argument — how she’d accused Ji Zhiye of being a creepy stalker — and guilt crept into her heart. Maybe not a stalker… just a little bit of a weirdo.
“What happened here?!” Staff came running after hearing the commotion, shocked to see the state of Ji Zhiye’s wheelchair. They rushed her to the hospital.
Wei Qin stood frozen in place, still trying to make sense of what had happened. This was supposed to be an open space. Sure, there was a small building nearby, but how would a tree branch fall from a house?

Later that night.
After the livestream went offline, Yu Wenxi found her way to the third-floor balcony. Just as she expected, Wei Qin was there, sipping quietly, looking somewhat uneasy — perhaps out of guilt.
“I heard Miss Ji was sent to the hospital after saving you.” Yu Wenxi said.
Wei Qin gave a brief “mm.” “I asked. They said she’ll be okay.”
“I didn’t expect someone like you to do variety shows.”
