- Chapter 15 - Anyway, I’m Not Going After Any Omega
Yu Wenxi walked up beside her and asked in a casual, friendly tone.
Clearly, Wei Qin was unhappy with how things had gone earlier. She had always disliked beating around the bush, so she asked directly,
“Do you seriously like that scumbag A, Yan Run?”
“What makes her a scumbag?” Yu Wenxi feigned confusion.
Wei Qin’s lips curled slightly. “It was all over the news. I remember them saying something like, ‘Second Miss Yan is head over heels for you and vows to stay single forever.’ But not long after, paparazzi caught her with a few Omegas, arms around them, heading into a hotel. And now you still want to marry her? Does the Yu family really need a political marriage that badly?”
Yu Wenxi smiled faintly. “There are benefits to the marriage. Both the Yu and Yan families are prominent in A City—joining forces is great for business.”
Wei Qin clicked her tongue. “So in the end, you’re just doing it for the family. As an actress, sacrificing a kiss or two isn’t a big deal, right?”
Yu Wenxi chuckled, stepping closer to her. They were nearly touching before Wei Qin stepped back, frowning.
“What are you doing?”
Yu Wenxi gave a flirtatious smile, tossing her long hair. “So, Best Actress Wei joined this romance show just to compete on looks and laugh at my expense? You sure you don’t want to spend more time getting to know me?”
Her voice, always cool and gentle, lingered in Wei Qin’s ear like a soft caress. It struck a nerve, sending an electric tingle through her.
Wei Qin’s ears turned red, and she quickly turned to leave.
“Get lost!”
Yu Wenxi replied sweetly, “Okay, I’ll get lost then~”
Wei Qin blushed, her heart pounding despite herself.
She had to admit—Yu Wenxi, despite looking all cold and aloof, was dangerously good at this kind of flirting.
–
Wanting to learn more about her past self, she used her free time at work to talk to people who might know. But first, she needed to build some rapport with Yu Wenxi.
Conveniently, just as she was getting ready for bed, a message came in—from He Yunzhi, her grandmother.
She’d watched the episode as soon as it aired, from beginning to end.
She was excited to see her granddaughter and granddaughter-in-law’s romance play out. Previously, Yan Run had seemed too stiff on screen, which had left the old lady disappointed.
“It’s okay, A-Run. Take your time.”
Yan Run pursed her lips. Take my time?
“Sorry, Grandma. I’ve let you down.”
“I know you’re reserved, but you’ve also got passion. You’ll warm up soon.”
Yan Run’s mind shifted gears.
“Grandma, what kind of person was I… before?”
Her grandmother seemed delighted and sent a string of messages:
“You, back then?”
“You were warm and lively. You kept showing up at the Yu house just to chase after Xixi.”
“Our butler thought you were a thief! He’d always be on high alert and try to chase you away.”
“One time I caught you sitting on a stone bench outside playing puzzle games. That’s when I found out you were Second Miss Yan.”
“So I brought you in. You claimed you were there for business talks, not to see Wenxi—yeah right. You never even told anyone when you came by. Wandering around like that, no wonder people mistook you for a thief.”
“Then one day, Wenxi wasn’t filming, and you two finally met.”
“I don’t know what you talked about, but you looked really happy.”
“I’ve seen all the alphas around Wenxi. But I still liked you the most.”
“All the alphas around her?”
“Wenxi’s not really into anyone romantically. But she does enjoy being admired…”
“Anyway, you’re already married. I won’t say much more.”
“It’s okay, Grandma. You should rest.”
Yan Run put her phone down. So… she had really liked Yu Wenxi that much?
She had always thought Yu Wenxi was cold and insincere when it came to emotions. Could it be that she had been hurt by her in the past—and that’s what led to her wild behavior?
And who was this “Ah Yue,” anyway?
Just then, Yu Wenxi walked in.
“Feeling better now?” she asked.
Yan Run patted her own thigh. “Want to sit here again?”
Yu Wenxi laughed. “You’re not feeling sick anymore?”
“I can manage,” Yan Run said.
Yu Wenxi shook her head. “Better not. Sitting on someone’s lap isn’t exactly the kind of thing we should be broadcasting nationwide. But… if you want to hold me gently, I don’t mind.”
Then she went to the bathroom to wash up.
Yan Run was still thinking about what Qin Zishu had said: Playing with people’s feelings?
She clenched her fists. Was I really used by Yu Wenxi?
Fine then. Time to play a little dirty.
Yu Wenxi had no idea what was going through Yan Run’s head. She just felt satisfied with how things went today. Even though social media was flooded with arguments about who was prettier—her or Wei Qin—at least she got to see how Yan Run reacted.
After showering, she saw Yan Run had fallen asleep on the sofa.
She turned off the lights and went to bed. Not long after, she felt someone lie down beside her.
Facing away, she asked, “Not sleeping on the sofa tonight?”
“I’m just here for a bit,” Yan Run replied. “Wanted to chat.”
“What do you want to talk about?”
“Your past.”
“Oh?”
“How many alphas have you dated?”
Yu Wenxi pretended to think. “Not sure. Probably quite a few.”
Yan Run’s heart skipped a beat. “But people say you’ve never liked anyone.”
“Since when do they know what I really think?”
“My friend told me… you used to play with my feelings.”
“Why would I do that?”
“Then why did I turn out the way I did?”
“How should I know? Maybe it’s just your true nature showing. I married you under pressure, to fulfill my grandmother’s wish. You think you’re that important? Even if I had feelings, they’d never be for you. And I certainly wouldn’t ‘toy’ with you. You’re not even worth that.”
Yu Wenxi closed her eyes, exhaling slowly as if forcing the words out.
Yan Run gritted her teeth. “Grandma said you’ve had plenty of alphas. So… have you been in love?”
“Don’t assume things about me. I hate that.”
“Yu Wenxi, tell me the truth. Who do you like?!”
“One person.”
In the silence, Yu Wenxi answered clearly.
Yan Run fell silent.
Only one? The only one she ever loved—or the only one she dated?
“Who is it?”
“I said stop guessing.”
“Do you still love her?”
“I don’t know.”
“I don’t care if you meet her again,” Yan Run said coldly. “Just don’t drag both our families into it. As for me—” her tone firmed, “I’m not going after any Omega.”
Yu Wenxi scoffed.
“I’m serious,” Yan Run said, frowning. “I’ll prove it to you. Just trust me.”
With that, she went back to sleep on the couch.
Yu Wenxi might actually be in love with someone. If that alpha saw them pretending to be affectionate on screen, would she be jealous? Would she come forward to stake her claim?
Whoever she is… she must be incredible.
Certainly not the type to throw tantrums.

The Next Morning
Yan Run acted like nothing had happened. She still made breakfast for Yu Wenxi.
“Any work today?” she asked.
“Filming. But it won’t take long.”
“I’ll drive you,” Yan Run offered with a warm smile.
[Is Ergou trying to kiss up now?]
[They must’ve switched scripts—now she’s playing the good wife.]
Yu Wenxi smiled faintly, agreeing.
It was as if nothing had happened the night before.
“So fragrant! What did you make?” Meng Qieyi came downstairs in a crisp white blouse, carrying a noblewoman’s elegance that arguably surpassed Yan Run in poise and charm.
No wonder fans preferred the idea of Yu Wenxi liking her.
Could she be the one Yu Wenxi likes? Yan Run wondered.
No, she said she didn’t like her… unless she was lying. Could it be “Ayi,” not “Ah Yue”?
“It’s seafood congee—my wife made it,” Yu Wenxi said casually.
Wife? No more calling her “Yan Yan”? Yan Run tightened her grip on her spoon.
“You want some? There’s more in the pot.”
“Thanks.” Meng Qieyi didn’t decline and confidently served herself.
Wang Yunfan and Han Shu also came down, and clearly interested in Yunfan, Yan Run even made pan-fried dumplings for her.
Meng Qieyi complimented, “This seafood porridge is nice. Fresh ingredients. Just… a little fishy.”
Though everyone tried the food, only Meng Qieyi pointed out a flaw.
[Atta girl, Meng Qieyi—put her in her place!]
[Not cool. Makes the cook look bad. Bit of a ‘pick-me’ vibe from her.]
Yan Run said nothing, but Yu Wenxi replied,
“Really? I didn’t taste anything off.”
[Wait—Wenxi is defending Ergou??]
[Wenxi, don’t do this to us 😭]
Meng Qieyi gave a faint smile. “Maybe I just have a sensitive palate.”
Han Shu chimed in, “Well, if it’s that sensitive, maybe don’t eat it?”
[Ooh, now it’s getting spicy!]
Wang Yunfan tried to defuse the tension, “Alright, alright. Everyone’s taste buds are different.”
She turned to Yan Run. “Right?”
Yan Run continued eating silently. But Yu Wenxi noticed something else: Han Shu was watching Yan Run—intently.
She had no interest in the other contestants, especially that Beta. But now she was surprised to see how focused he was on Yan Run.
Yan Run’s a married woman. What’s he staring for?
“I’m done,” Yu Wenxi said, reaching for a napkin.
Before she could grab one, a delicate hand gently wiped her mouth for her.
Yu Wenxi froze and looked over.
Yan Run was smiling as she carefully dabbed at her lips. “Let me take care of the little things for you.”
[What the hell is Ergou doing now?!]
[Ugh, totally scripted. I bet next she’ll be wiping her hands too.]
Sure enough, Yan Run picked up another wipe and began cleaning Yu Wenxi’s elegant fingers.
Yu Wenxi seemed to enjoy it, smiling. “Yan Yan is the best.”
Han Shu and Meng Qieyi both looked visibly surprised.
Wang Yunfan, older and more experienced, chuckled. “Second Miss Yan’s not shy anymore—finally pampering her wife, huh?”
Yan Run smiled. “That’s my duty.”
Meng Qieyi drank her soy milk in silence.
But Han Shu… he looked upset. Just like the online crowd, he thought: Is she just acting? Or really after the Yan family’s money?
