- Chapter 3 - Yan Yan, You Must Be Exhausted Today. Let Me Give You a Massage
Yu Wenxi stood under the warm glow of her home’s wall lamp, dressed in a pale blue gown with her hair gently cascading down. The soft intermingling of moonlight and lamp light bathed her in a serene aura, making her already porcelain skin seem to glow in the dark.
She looked ethereal—gentle yet cool, exactly how an Omega like her would be imagined in a dream.
“You’re here, Yan Yan.” Yu Wenxi slipped her arm through Yan Run’s, her voice impossibly gentle.
Yan Run paused slightly. No wonder Yu Wenxi had reigned as queen of the entertainment world for so many years—her acting skills were terrifyingly good. The way she so naturally slid into the role of a fiancée almost convinced Yan Run they’d been on a honeymoon before she lost her memory.
“Can you at least try to smile?” Yu Wenxi lowered her voice and murmured, “My grandma is inside.”
“Oh. Right.”
Yan Run forced a stiff smile. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to smile—it’s just that Yu Wenxi was holding her arm.
Omegas did have incredibly soft skin—smooth, slightly cool, and carrying a delicate fragrance—but still, Yan Run felt deeply uncomfortable. It was like being held at knifepoint in a silk glove.
As they entered the living room, the television played an old drama. A dining table in the adjacent space was already laid out with several elegantly plated, steaming dishes.
On the couch sat an elderly woman with salt-and-pepper hair. Beside her, an old man was peeling an orange with practiced ease. They had to be in their seventies, yet the unspoken connection between them was palpable. The woman took the peeled segments delicately—every single piece stripped clean of white pith.
These two were likely Yu Wenxi’s grandparents: Yu Huanzhu and He Yunzhi.
“Grandpa, Grandma, Yan Yan’s here,” Yu Wenxi said, tugging Yan Run closer as she smiled at the pair.
He Yunzhi’s eyes sparkled as she tried to sit up straighter, clearly still recovering from surgery. She motioned for Yan Run to come sit down.
“Little Yan, welcome.”
“Hello, Grandpa. Hello, Grandma,” Yan Run said politely.
Both elders smiled warmly, the kind of pure joy one rarely sees on aged faces.
Yu Wenxi had previously texted to say she’d told her grandparents about Yan Run’s injury—but not about the amnesia. He Yunzhi had been very worried.
Seeing the grandmother’s anxious gaze, Yan Run wondered: Had I been close with them before losing my memory?
“Little Yan, how’s your head now?” He Yunzhi asked with deep concern.
“Oh, I’m fine now. Thank you for asking, Grandma,” Yan Run replied. “My brain’s just a bit fuzzy. I can’t remember a lot.”
“As long as you remember our Wenxi, that’s enough,” He Yunzhi said, visibly relieved by Yan Run’s bright smile.
Yu Huanzhu gently patted He Yunzhi’s hand. “See? Nothing to worry about. Little Yan is strong and healthy. How could anything go wrong?”
“As long as she doesn’t forget Wenxi, everything’s fine,” He Yunzhi repeated with emphasis.
Yan Run pressed her lips together. She had heard that He Yunzhi might be in the early stages of dementia.
Yu Wenxi handed her a cup of tea. Yan Run took it and politely said, “Thank you.”
Yu Wenxi shot her a sharp look.
What now? Yan Run wondered. Am I not allowed to thank my partner? Isn’t the Yu family known for being particular about etiquette?
“Little Yan, you’re being far too polite. Think of this house as your own. We’re one family now,” Yu Huanzhu said. Despite their emphasis on manners, even the Yu family thought that saying “thank you” to close family was a bit distant.
Yu Wenxi, seated beside her, chuckled softly. “Maybe Yan Yan still thinks she’s not officially part of the family yet.”
Not part of the family?! Yan Run thought. ‘Over-the-threshold wife’?
“It’s fine, Little Yan,” He Yunzhi reassured her. “Wenxi is your future wife. No need for formalities.”
To lighten the mood, Yan Run took out two jade pendants she had brought.
“Grandpa, Grandma, these are gifts I picked out for you.”
“Oh dear, you always bring gifts whenever you visit. You’re too thoughtful,” He Yunzhi said.
“It’s nothing. I picked them specially,” Yan Run replied. Looking at their kind faces, she felt a strange sense of peace and warmth.
Just then, two more people entered—Yu Wenxi’s mothers: Yu Qingyue and Luo Wenting.
Luo Wenting leaned in with a smile. “Little Yan, you’re here.”
“Hello, Aunt Yu. Hello, Aunt Luo,” Yan Run stood up and greeted them respectfully.
From appearances, the more serious woman—Yu Qingyue—was likely the Alpha.
Yu Qingyue gave a faint smile, her composed demeanor clearly that of the refined and capable head of the Yu family, while Luo Wenting’s warmth was instantly disarming.
Dinner began.
Naturally, Yu Wenxi and Yan Run sat together.
In front of everyone, Yu Wenxi deliberately picked out a piece of braised pork and placed it in Yan Run’s bowl.
“Eat more, Yan Yan.”
The affectionate tone made Yan Run shiver involuntarily.
“Are you cold, Little Yan?” Luo Wenting asked, noticing her reaction.
“Ah, no, no. Just a little cold sweat,” Yan Run said quickly, trying to brush it off.
Yu Wenxi looked at her like she was ridiculous. It’s just a piece of meat—what are you so dramatic for?
“Little Yan,” Yu Qingyue chimed in. “Our families are soon to be one. You’ve visited before but never stayed overnight. Why don’t you stay a few days now?”
All eyes turned to Yan Run.
Her body stiffened. Would it be rude to refuse?
Did staying over mean she had to sleep in the same room as Yu Wenxi?
“Um…” She gave an awkward smile and glanced at Yu Wenxi, who wore a mysterious smile in return.
What the hell are you smiling at? Help me out here! Yan Run cried silently.
Yu Wenxi calmly replied, “We’ve stayed together before.”
Yan Run: !!
“Oh, you kids.” Luo Wenting chuckled, not in the least perturbed. “I’ll have someone prepare a room for Little Yan.”
“Why not just stay in Wenxi’s room?” Yu Huanzhu suggested suddenly.
You definitely did stuff like this when you were young, Yan Run thought.
“That might not be appropriate,” Yu Wenxi said at last. “Yan Yan believes in living together after marriage.”
Yan Run nodded frantically in agreement.
“But you’re getting your marriage license soon,” He Yunzhi argued. “No harm sharing a bed now. Maybe we’ll even get a little grandbaby out of it!”
Yan Run looked around in shock. How can you just say something like that at the dinner table?!
Still, they were a family that valued propriety. No official engagement yet meant separate rooms—but Yan Run had the feeling Grandma wasn’t entirely joking.
After dinner, He Yunzhi took a walk outside before returning to her room. Yu Huanzhu and Yu Qingyue went to the study to discuss company matters.
Meanwhile, Yan Run finished her bath and walked into Yu Wenxi’s bedroom—apparently, she wanted to talk.
Taking a deep breath, Yan Run opened the door.
“What did you want to talk about?” she asked straight to the point.
“Come sit,” Yu Wenxi said. She was already seated on the plush carpet, wearing an obsidian silk nightgown that brushed her ankles.
Though only twenty-six, Yu Wenxi exuded an elegant maturity, and now, makeup-free and relaxed, she looked impossibly captivating.
Yan Run’s breath caught. This Omega is stunning.
Still, no matter how beautiful the Omega, it didn’t matter to her anymore. She’d transcended desire. She had repented.
Her eyes fell on the contract on the table. It read: “You Are My Star” — Reality Dating Show.
“Someone invited me to join a dating show,” Yu Wenxi explained.
“Isn’t that the kind of show where singles try to find love? Aren’t you engaged to me?” Yan Run was dumbfounded.
“That’s true,” Yu Wenxi said calmly. “But this one’s different. It invites both lifelong singles and couples. They live together, and the singles reflect on whether they want love—maybe even find it among the others.”
Yan Run: …Which genius came up with that premise?
Yu Wenxi smiled faintly at her reaction.
“It’s produced by your company—Menghua Video.”
Yan Run: !!!
Her family ran an internet conglomerate with its own streaming platform: Menghua Video, known for its self-produced dramas and variety shows. The producer’s name on the contract? Yan Huainan.
Yu Wenxi flipped to the last page of the contract where both her and Yan Run’s names were signed.
“We got our marriage license before the show, so we’re on as a married couple. I told you before. You even signed it. Now that you’ve lost your memory, I don’t mind going over it again,” she said with a cool smile.
Yan Run gave a helpless “Oh,” meaning she agreed.
“Why did you accept the offer?”
“My agent brought it up while I was at home. Grandma overheard and said she wanted to watch the show. So I said yes.”
“You’re really good to your grandma.”
“She’s the one who’s good to me,” Yu Wenxi said softly. “When I was little, my moms were always busy. Only Grandpa and Grandma had time for me.”
A quiet moment passed.
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll go,” Yan Run said.
Yu Wenxi’s gaze shimmered faintly. “Okay.”
Just as Yan Run reached the door, slow footsteps approached from behind.
A voice called out softly: “Yan Yan, you must be exhausted today. Let me give you a massage.”
Before she could react, Yu Wenxi pulled her in. A soft, fragrant body leaned gently against hers.
Then—the door swung open.
