- Chapter 5 - But I Still Want to Reward You—
An Alpha entered the room in a wheelchair, slowly being pushed by her beta secretary.
She wore a sleek black suit, her skin porcelain-pale, and her long hair fell in a straight curtain around her shoulders—cool and imposing, the very image of a cold and elegant domineering lady.
But her gaze was oddly selective—sharp and hostile when it landed on Yan Run, yet softening completely when turned to Wei Qin, as if she might melt into a sweet puppy at any moment.
Yan Run frowned. “Who are you?”
The secretary sneered arrogantly. “This is Miss Ji Zhiye, the eldest daughter of the Ji family in Lan City.”
Yan Run remained calm and indifferent. “Oh.”
Ji Zhiye: “…”
Lan City was the most prosperous metropolis in the country, and the Ji family reigned at the top—its wealth rivaled that of the Yan and Yu families of second-most prosperous City A.
Being snubbed like this by Yan Run? Ji Zhiye felt outright insulted.
Wei Qin didn’t bother hiding her displeasure. “Why are you following me again?”
Ji Zhiye cleared her throat and smiled ingratiatingly. “Wherever you go, I’ll follow. You want a dressing room? I’ll book you the biggest one there is.”
Wei Qin frowned and replied coldly, “I don’t need it.”
Ji Zhiye chuckled, “Qin Qin, why be so distant?”
Clearly not wanting to waste words on Ji Zhiye, Wei Qin turned and walked off, tossing over her shoulder, “I said I don’t need it!”
Ji Zhiye quickly wheeled herself after her. “Qin Qin, wait for me!”
Watching the two argue, Yan Run was stunned.
She turned to Tang Ming. “What’s going on with those two?”
Tang Ming replied, “According to reliable sources, Miss Ji is currently pursuing Wei Qin.”
Yan Run raised a brow. “So the heiress of the Ji family is just a simp, huh?”
Tang Ming gave her a sideways look—her expression practically screamed, Aren’t you the same?
Yan Run glanced at her, shrugged, and was about to turn away—only to find Yu Wenxi suddenly close by.
A delicate scent of jasmine wafted over, strangely familiar.
Startled, Yan Run backed away. Yu Wenxi’s fair cheeks were flushed with rouge, her lips red and curved, and her bright eyes sparkled as they locked onto Yan Run’s stunned face.
The scent triggered something deep inside Yan Run, making her heart skip a beat. She stepped back in alarm. “What are you trying to do?”
Yu Wenxi giggled. “I didn’t expect you to have the guts to go against Wei Qin.”
Yan Run averted her gaze, suddenly shy. “So you were eavesdropping the whole time?”
Yu Wenxi crossed her arms, looking amused. “I was just watching how you’d handle it. Too bad Wei Qin’s dumb admirer showed up and ruined the show. Still—I need to reward you.”
She leaned in close, voice low and teasing beside Yan Run’s ear. “Tonight, just the two of us… dinner.”
The Omega’s voice was cool and velvety, tinged with a gentle allure—like pheromones coiling softly around an Alpha’s heart, teasing and soothing all at once. It was the kind of voice no Alpha could resist.
But—Yan Run considered herself a righteous warrior of true love, unshaken by beauty. She only swallowed hard and blushed slightly at the ears.
After all, Tang Ming was still nearby.
So she nodded, pretending composure. “Sure.”
That evening, Yu Wenxi’s appearance at the event made headlines. Yan Run could hear the fans outside causing a ruckus—mostly throwing shade at her.
She merely shrugged, seemingly used to it by now. No fragile ego here.
Tang Ming sighed beside her. “Miss Yan, they’re really out of line. One even said you can’t have children.”
Yan Run: “…”
“And that you’re unable to mark anyone… and that you’re into Alphas?”
Yan Run: “…” Where are they getting this nonsense?!
“They even said you’re just lucky—that the goddess actually fell for you.”
Yan Run: “…” How do you even argue with that kind of fake gossip?
The award ceremony was soon live.
Yu Wenxi walked the red carpet with her cast and crew.
Watching the live feed, Yan Run breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed Wenxi had no intention of leaving—even if she wanted to, her parents wouldn’t let her. Classic setup.
Yu Wenxi wore a red velvet gown, striking and composed like a blade—untouchable and regal.
Every spotlight followed her.
The lights on set were brutal, bright enough to blind, but she didn’t blink once. She was used to this glare, this pressure.
Still, Yan Run noticed something off—Wenxi seemed a bit out of sync tonight.
Once the red carpet ended, the seating began. Both Wei Qin’s and Yu Wenxi’s films were front-runners for the night’s major awards.
They were placed in the second row, surrounded by top-tier industry figures. Between them sat a famed director—otherwise, given Wei Qin’s temperament, a clash with Yu Wenxi would’ve been inevitable.
Cameras zoomed in constantly, capturing every nuance.
Beauty and elegance—cold and vivid—side by side.
Two contrasting styles, in the same frame for the first time. Unsurprisingly, their fanbases were at each other’s throats online.
This time, Yu Wenxi’s fans were losing ground—especially after seeing Yan Run follow her into the lounge. The anger was real, and Wei Qin’s fans pounced on it. Hard to argue back.
Inside the lounge, Yan Run watched the ceremony on the screen. Yu Wenxi’s smile had vanished. She clearly knew the outcome but didn’t want to accept it.
When Best Actress was announced, the presenter loudly declared: “Wei Qin.”
Yu Wenxi’s face went pale in an instant. Then just as quickly, she exhaled and regained composure. Her expression turned unreadable again—calm and distant.
But Yan Run could sense something. Deep down, Wenxi had really wanted that award.
After the ceremony, the crew invited Wenxi out for dinner. She’d lost by only a few votes—too close for comfort.
Wenxi shook her head politely. “Sorry, my fiancée is with me.”
“Bring her too!” said another Alpha lead actress with a smile.
The director and screenwriter both nodded in agreement.
Wenxi couldn’t refuse, so she turned to Yan Run.
To everyone’s surprise, Yan Run agreed immediately.
So the two of them joined the rest of the team for dinner.
Tang Ming snapped a candid of the two making eye contact and laughing, then sent it to Yu Qingyue.
Qingyue looked at the photo and chuckled softly.
She was currently doing yoga with her wife.
Luo Wenting asked, “What are you laughing at?”
Qingyue replied, “Do you really think Yan Yan doesn’t feel anything for Wenxi just because she lost her memory?”
Luo Wenting frowned. “I’m not sure if she really lost her memory… she acts pretty much the same—just a little more restrained. As for her relationship with Wenxi… well, they’ve come a long way.”
Qingyue nodded and said no more.
At the restaurant, Wenxi and Yan Run sat together.
Everyone was curious about this mysterious, high-profile fiancée.
The Alpha lead actress introduced herself. “I’m Yu Nai.”
Yan Run shook her head. “I don’t really drink.”
Yu Wenxi smiled. “She doesn’t drink or smoke. Please, no one pressure her.”
Yan Run politely pushed her glass aside. “I’m really sorry.”
Her tone was respectful, her manners impeccable.
The director and others were quietly stunned.
This didn’t match her public image at all.
“This film took years to develop,” Yu Nai remarked. “And we never saw Miss Yan during that time. Now that we have… she’s not like the rumors at all…”
She trailed off before saying too much.
Yan Run acted as if she hadn’t heard.
The director smiled. “Miss Yan, let’s toast with tea instead. I wish you both a happy marriage.”
“Thank you.” Wenxi lightly bumped Yan Run’s arm, prompting her with a grin.
Yan Run blinked. “Huh?”
Wenxi frowned slightly. “What do you mean ‘huh’? Hurry and clink glasses! The director’s waiting.”
“Oh—right!” Yan Run quickly raised her cup.
Everyone chuckled. Still, it didn’t seem like Yan Run was that into Wenxi.
Typical of powerful families—marriages without love.
This goddess of the entertainment world clearly had a long road ahead.
