- Chapter 6 - Baby, I Think I’m Sleepy
Yan Run hadn’t had a drop of alcohol, but Yu Wenxi had drunk quite a bit.
Seeing her cheeks flushed, Yan Run couldn’t help stepping in, shielding her from more rounds and eventually helping her away from the table.
Yu Nai offered a hand to help, but as soon as she touched Yu Wenxi, Yan Run forcefully pulled her into her own arms.
Yu Nai was momentarily stunned.
Yan Run responded coolly, “Thanks for your help.”
Yu Nai smiled, “Second Miss Yan, you really are something—managing to win over someone like her.”
Yan Run frowned. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Yu Nai replied, “So many people have tried and failed to pursue her. And you—just a rich second-gen.”
One with no real talent and a reputation for flirting around, at that.
Clearly unhappy about Yu Wenxi being with Yan Run, Yu Nai couldn’t do anything about it.
Yan Run, without looking back, supported Yu Wenxi and said, “I’ll treat her well.”
Yu Nai snorted. As if. You’re more likely to cheat than cherish her.
The Omega in her arms kept squirming slightly, carrying a faint scent of perfume mixed with alcohol.
Yan Run, with solemn determination, stuffed her into the car without hesitation.
Just as she was about to get in and drive, Yu Wenxi opened her eyes.
Startled, Yan Run asked, “Wait… you’re not drunk?”
Yu Wenxi shook her head slightly, her voice groggy, “Just a little dizzy.”
Yan Run narrowed her eyes. “Then you heard what Yu Nai said earlier?”
Yu Wenxi nodded, “She’s one of the many who tried to pursue me.”
Yan Run forced a smile. “You sure have a lot of admirers.”
“Well, doesn’t matter. I’m marrying you anyway.”
“Making it sound like I’m the lucky one here.” Yan Run said.
Yu Wenxi chuckled, resting her chin on her hand as if reminiscing. “You’ve become much cuter than before. You used to be so handsy with me.”
Yan Run was shocked and immediately denied it, “I would never!”
“You absolutely would.” Yun Wenxi responded.
Yan Run quickly changed the subject. “Alright, since it’s just the two of us now, let’s get everything straight.”
Yu Wenxi pulled out a small bottle from her bag and, without hesitation, took another sip.
Yan Run frowned. “You’re still drinking?”
“I’m not drunk yet, am I?” Yun Wenxi replied.
Her cheeks were tinted pink from the alcohol, and she smiled radiantly. “Perfect timing. I’ve got a few things to say too.”
Yan Run continued, “I didn’t get to explain clearly last time, so let’s settle this now. After we get married, I’ll sleep on the couch, you take the bed. You don’t need to pour water or serve me food—I can do those things myself. And if you want to link arms, please wait until I’m wearing long sleeves. If my bare skin touches yours, it feels… weird. Also—”
“Are you a Virgo?” Yu Wenxi interrupted, frowning.
Yan Run shook her head. “No, I’m a Leo.”
Yu Wenxi took another sip. “What else?”
“That’s all.”
Yu Wenxi nodded. “Alright, my turn. We’re about to register our marriage, and right after that, we’ll be joining a romance reality show. My grandparents have always hoped I will find an Alpha who truly cherishes me. Plus, with the cameras rolling, your job is to take care of me. Spoil me. If I want water, you bring it. If I want food, you buy it. Whatever I want to do, you do it with me. Basically, treat me the way your mom took care of you. No mistakes allowed.”
Yan Run: “…”
“…Are you a Virgo?”
Yu Wenxi nodded. “I think I am.”
Yan Run: “…”
Well, she had no choice but to accept it.
Yan Run had always preferred to act decisively.
“Alright, it’s a deal.”
“Great.” Yun Wenxi replied.
Yan Run glanced around—thankfully, no paparazzi in sight.
“Um… you’re not upset, are you?”
Yu Wenxi blinked. “Upset about what?”
“The award… it went to Wei Qin. I thought you’d—”
“Oh, that.” Yu Wenxi smiled. “She really did a great job. I’ve got no complaints. People need to know their limits and be self-aware. Besides, I’m not that bothered.”
Yan Run chuckled. “I don’t believe that for a second.”
Yu Wenxi’s voice softened. “Don’t believe me? Okay, maybe I’m a little salty. But hey… I’ve got a long journey ahead.”
Yan Run was momentarily stunned.
The calm confidence in the Omega’s voice was a little surprising.
Not a trace of the usual spoiled heiress attitude.
Her assistant, Tang Ming, arrived in a rush and apologized before driving them back.
Seeing their smiles, Tang Ming felt deeply relieved. Though the two weren’t holding hands or clinging to each other, she still felt that Yan Run was… well, kind of lacking.
When it came time to register their marriage, both families showed up to celebrate the union.
Yan Run wore a white dress shirt, visibly uncomfortable.
Registering for marriage like this—was it just a joke?
But in a family like hers, this was no joke. Even if she didn’t love Yu Wenxi, she had to consider the family’s interests.
She took a deep breath. She had changed. She was no longer the flirty Alpha who messed around with multiple Omegas and made Yu Wenxi uncomfortable. She was now a reformed, responsible Alpha—someone who would carry the family legacy.
“My God, could you be any more dramatic?” Her older sister, Yan Zhi, leaned against the door, cool and aloof, raising an eyebrow at her younger sibling.
Yan Run: “…”
“I may have lost my memory, but I’m not the person I used to be.”
Yan Zhi gave her a long look. “You seem exactly the same to me. Just a bit dumber. Did you hit your head or something?” She reached out to poke her, but Yan Run dodged.
“I think I’ve developed an aversion to physical touch.”
Yan Zhi burst into laughter. “You’ve always been like that—with everyone except your future wife, Yu Wenxi.”
“…Huh?” Yan Run froze. Wasn’t she also repulsed by touching Yu Wenxi?
When they met for their marriage photo, Yu Wenxi, also in a shirt, teased her, “You really do look like a college professor. Refined. Especially in a dress shirt—you look best like this.”
Yan Run gave her a tight-lipped smile. “Thanks for the compliment.”
The photographer glanced at the soon-to-be bride. Why did she look so unhappy? Ah, of course—another arranged marriage in a wealthy family.
“Say cheese!”
After the first photo, Yu Wenxi felt they weren’t standing close enough and wanted a retake. But Yan Run, recalling her conversation with her sister, insisted, “I think this distance is perfect.”
Yu Wenxi gave her a pointed look. “You sure?”
Yan Run nodded.
Yu Wenxi shrugged. “Alright, we’ll go with this one.”
She didn’t know that once Yan Run regained her memories, she would drag her back for a full reshoot—deeply regretting not having taken more photos that day.
He Yunzhi, upon seeing the photo, looked clearly dissatisfied.
Especially with Yan Run’s forced smile—it didn’t exactly scream “happy bride.” But with both families present, she didn’t feel comfortable asking them to retake it.
That evening, both families had dinner together. Yan Huainan and Yu Qingyue toasted and chatted enthusiastically about the future cooperation between the Yan and Yu families.
“I heard the Gu family, long based overseas, is setting up a company here in City A.”
“They’re industry giants abroad. Wonder what they’re up to.”
As the parents continued discussing business, Yu Wenxi grew sleepy. She glanced at Yan Run, who was still eating, and yawned.
“Baby, I think I’m sleepy.”
Her voice wasn’t particularly loud, but Luo Wenting and Xu Chenghuan both turned their heads in surprise. Yan Run nearly choked—damn it! She’d forgotten to remind Yu Wenxi not to use overly intimate nicknames in public!
But with everyone watching, she had no choice but to awkwardly laugh. “Then go sleep, I guess.”
Yu Wenxi’s expression darkened. Yan Run suddenly remembered their agreement and corrected herself, “I mean… let’s go sleep together?”
“Why would I sleep with you?” she added automatically.
Yu Wenxi: “…”
After receiving a withering glare, Yan Run finally understood and nodded sheepishly.
The elders, He Huan and He Yunzhi, had long gone to rest but not before gifting them a pair of jade mandarin duck rings.
As Yan Run accepted the gift, she couldn’t help feeling guilty. What if they divorced? That would be such a letdown for the old lady.
Pretending to be affectionate, she put her arm around Yu Wenxi as they left—but as soon as they were outside, she let go, only to quickly grab her again when Tang Ming appeared.
“Miss, are you returning to the Yan estate or…?”
Yu Wenxi answered, “We’re staying at the hotel.”
Yan Run looked at her in shock.
Tang Ming smiled. “I’ll make arrangements.”
True to her efficiency, Tang Ming quickly secured a luxury suite.
Only about ten minutes had passed, but when they stepped out of the elevator, Yan Run didn’t feel tired at all.
“Should I book a separate room?”
“No,” Yu Wenxi replied coldly. “We’re sharing.”
Yan Run: “…Huh?”
“Even though we’re just married—”
“The variety show has us sharing a bed. We need to get used to it.” With that, she scanned the room card and walked in. Yun Wenxi said.
Yan Run sighed. So much trouble…
Even worse—there wasn’t a couch!
As Yan Run stood frozen, Yu Wenxi smiled behind her. “Oh, look. No couch.”
“It’s fine. I’ll sleep on the carpet.” Yan Run said.
“There’s no spare blanket either.” Yun Wenxi responded.
“I’ll call housekeeping.” Yan Run replied.
Yu Wenxi tugged on Yan Run’s sleeve. She turned, cautiously checking that she didn’t touch her hand.
“Just sleep in the bed. You need sleep too.”
Yan Run pursed her lips. Somehow, the moment she agreed, it felt like she’d lost all her freedom. Is this what a wealthy arranged marriage means—no freedom at all?
“What are you standing there for? Go wash up.” Yun Wenxi said.
“…Okay, okay.” Yan Run answered.
There seems to a part missing from either the end of ch 8 or the start of ch 9
Yan Run was asked a question at the end of 8, but it’s skipped and different people at talking at the start of 9
Hello. I’m really sorry about the mix-up — I mistakenly labeled Chapter 7 as Chapter 8 and left out the actual Chapter 8. It’s all fixed now. Thank you so much for reading!
