- Chapter 9 - Jasmine Tea... Just Like Baby’s Scent
Ji Zhiye smiled warmly. “Hi everyone, I’m Ji Zhiye. I look forward to working with you.”
—How did this guy chase her wife all the way onto a variety show?!
Wei Qin was clearly unimpressed. “That doesn’t really count as a celebrity, does it?”
Ji Zhiye replied smoothly, “But I count as a civilian celebrity.”
Wei Qin: “…”
Hu Ye explained, “The original guest couldn’t make it, so Miss Ji stepped in.”
Wei Qin didn’t comment. Whether it was really a replacement or not, she knew just how much money had changed hands.
After the introductions, everyone worked to smooth out the awkward tension.
Finally, the atmosphere began to warm up.
Still, it was clear Wei Qin didn’t like Ji Zhiye one bit.
Hu Ye paired up the two couples for a cooking challenge to showcase the romantic dynamics and chemistry between them.
Unfortunately, this spelled trouble for Yu Wenxi and Yan Run—neither of them could cook.
Wei Qin covered her mouth with a laugh and said to Yu Wenxi, “Wenxi, I’m really looking forward to your cooking.”
The sarcasm was impossible to miss.
Yu Wenxi calmly picked up an apron.
“I don’t think she likes you,” Yan Run remarked.
“You just now figured that out?” Yu Wenxi replied with a wry smile.
Yan Run pressed her lips together. “Don’t worry. I’ll make sure the food tastes great.”
Yu Wenxi said nothing, just helped Yan Run into her apron. Yan Run stiffened a little, letting her tie it however she pleased.
She could feel soft hands moving behind her, tying the strings.
Oddly enough, her body tingled slightly—as if some buried memory had been stirred.
She forgot about the discomfort for a moment, though the tips of her ears gradually turned red.
Fans watching the livestream nearly crushed their screens.
Who the hell is this Yan Run?!
What did she feed Yu Wenxi to get her so smitten?!
Xu Zhaozhao and Yu Chen had been together for six years. One prepped, the other cooked—smooth, effortless coordination. Occasionally, Xu Zhaozhao would act cute and call, “Gege, come help me!” Despite being
an old married couple, their PDA was still strong.
Yan Run rolled her eyes internally. She would never act like that.
Meanwhile, Yu Wenxi had no idea what to do. She didn’t even know what the ingredients were.
“I’ll handle everything. You just watch,” Yan Run said with a reassuring smile.
Yu Wenxi was stunned for a second. Before she could respond, Yan Run was already washing the vegetables.
Yu Wenxi watched her move with a mix of fluency and clumsiness. “Do you actually know how to cook?”
Yan Run looked up blankly. “I just watched a cooking tutorial in the bathroom. It seemed easy enough.”
Cooking isn’t about how easy it looks—it takes talent!
Yu Wenxi was doubtful.
Just then, Hu Ye came scurrying over. “Second Miss, we’ve already prepared a dish for you. When the camera pans away, we’ll swap it in. I promise the audience will be happy.”
Yan Run frowned instantly. If the deception were discovered, it would only damage her reputation further. She shook her head stubbornly. “No need. I’ll cook it myself.”
Hu Ye clicked his tongue. Why was she so difficult? He was about to argue again when Yu Wenxi came out of the restroom. He sighed and left, making a quick call.
“President Yan, we had arranged a backup for the cooking part, but she’s refusing it.”
Yan Huainan replied, “Then let her do it. She knows how.”
Before the memory loss, Yan Run had cooked for them. She just didn’t remember the process now.
“What should I do?” Yu Wenxi stood beside her, raising a teasing brow and smirking.
Just be a lucky charm, Yan Run thought to herself.
“You guys must be thirsty. I brought bubble tea!” Meng Qieyi appeared, carrying drinks from a trendy chain.
Yan Run glanced at the packaging—this shop was wildly popular online. The line was always long. Clearly, Meng Qieyi had someone wait to get them.
She watched Meng Qieyi walk straight over and hand the first cup to Yu Wenxi, who wasn’t even helping.
“You like grapes,” Meng Qieyi said sweetly. “So I got you a grape milk cap, light sugar—your usual preference.”
Yu Wenxi accepted it with a polite smile. “Thanks. How did you know I was craving bubble tea lately?”
“I saw your Moments post.”
Yan Run paused. They had each other on WeChat?
Then again, why wouldn’t they? They were friends.
But why hadn’t Yu Wenxi blocked her?
“You’re really thoughtful,” Yu Wenxi said.
“Of course. If you like something, I’ll always get it for you.”
[OMG, this A is so attentive! Why aren’t they together?!]
[Wenxi’s already married, this isn’t a good look. Kinda flirty tbh.]
[Who knows if it’s even a real marriage? They’re just friends, and there’s no inappropriate touching.]
[Honestly, I wish Wenxi would ditch Second Dog and go with Meng Qieyi!]
[Yes! Steal her away!!]
“Ooh, just what we needed!” Xu Zhaozhao and Yu Chen’s eyes lit up as they grabbed their drinks—leaving only Yan Run, still cooking.
“Your… wife wants one too?” Meng Qieyi finally turned her gaze to Yan Run.
The atmosphere between these two top alphas clearly didn’t match.
Even though Meng Qieyi claimed friendship with Yu Wenxi, offering her bubble tea in front of everyone felt slightly inappropriate. But with Yan Run’s bad reputation, most of the viewers sided with Meng Qieyi.
Even some were shipping her with Yu Wenxi.
Seeing the rising tide of comments, Yan Huainan and Xu Chenghuan were fuming.
“What’s with this casting? Why’d they let a love rival on the show?!” Yan Huainan raged.
Yan Zhi folded her arms. “Same way Ji Zhiye got on—connections.”
“But you’re supposed to check their background! Ji Zhiye brings traffic, what about her? She’s just here to steal our Wenxi!”
Yan Zhi coughed awkwardly. She had no idea Yan Run even had a romantic rival.
Still, Meng Qieyi’s appearance was sending traffic through the roof. She could only hope her little sister wouldn’t lose.
Yu Wenxi turned back. “Baby, do you want a drink?”
The comment section exploded with chaotic energy.
[Baby, want some poison instead?]
[Baby, are you asking for a beating?]
[Baby, say yes and I’ll punch you!]
Yan Run smiled faintly, walked over, and took the last bubble tea. After sipping it, she smirked.
“Jasmine tea… tastes just like baby.”
That meant her scent—Yu Wenxi’s pheromone was jasmine tea!
With one sentence, Yan Run not only got under Meng Qieyi’s skin but also strengthened the implication of their intimate bond.
Yu Wenxi sipped her drink and glanced sideways at her.
How did she know her pheromone was jasmine tea?
Had she not lost her memory after all?
Everyone understood what Yan Run meant. Smelling the scent meant they’d clearly done something intimate.
[Ugh, Yan Run is such a creep! Who says stuff like that?!]
[So gross. I despise her!]
[Second Dog, I swear I want to punch you!]
[Who even says things like that? She’s got zero class.]
[My ears are bleeding!]
[If Wenxi doesn’t get mad after that, she deserves an award for acting!]
[Wenxi, please! Just punch her already!]
[And Meng Qieyi! Say something! You like Wenxi, don’t you?!]
[Yan Run has a refined face, but such a vulgar mouth. Disgusting.]
[She probably says that trash because she has no real skills or appeal.]
[Psychologically speaking, people who lack reproductive ability often use domination to get off.]
Yan Run smiled coolly. She knew they were roasting her in the comments, but the reasons were so bizarre it was almost funny.
Meng Qieyi blushed. Maybe she regretted buying jasmine tea. She bit her straw and said with a forced smile, “Well, I’ll leave you to it then.”
“Sure you don’t want help?” Yu Wenxi raised an eyebrow teasingly.
“No need. Cooking is something us alphas do,” Yan Run replied casually. The oil sizzled in the pan, sounding a bit too aggressive.
Truthfully, she was terrified. But with her Omega watching, she couldn’t show it. The whole scene felt oddly familiar.
Yu Wenxi chuckled and took several steps back.
“Looks like it’s burning,” she remarked.
“Even burnt, it tastes good.” Yan Run replied.
“But it won’t look nice.” Yu Wenxi answered.
“I’ll make the next meal beautiful,” Yan Run promised. A strange sense of déjà vu lingered. She glanced at Yu Wenxi, who was watching her with bright eyes and an unreadable smile.
[Do you guys think Second Dog is jealous?]
[They’re married by arrangement. Why would she be jealous?]
[I still prefer Meng Qieyi. She’s prettier and clearly cares more.]
[Exactly! I don’t care about legal documents—Meng Qieyi is Wenxi’s real alpha!]
Later that evening at dinner, the two couples sat in the center.
The remaining six guests could choose seats freely.
Meng Qieyi quickly chose the spot beside Yu Wenxi.
Yan Run sat still, though she couldn’t help noticing that Meng Qieyi’s gaze was constantly fixed on Yu Wenxi.
Why would someone supposedly “just dating” look at a married Omega with such longing?
It was obvious she thought Yan Run and Yu Wenxi weren’t a real couple.
Not just her—everyone seemed to think so.
Even the fans.
They all wished Yu Wenxi would dump her and be with Meng Qieyi instead. To them, Yan Run was just some playgirl Alpha—disposable.
But legally, Yu Wenxi was her wife!
Everyone assumed their marriage was for business. That she didn’t love Yan Run at all.
