- Chapter 3 - Irrational Possessiveness
Ying Ning worked at one of the top private hospitals in the country. It offered strict confidentiality, top-tier security, and, naturally, came with a steep price tag.
Most of its patients were either wealthy elites or celebrities, and many of the doctors also served as exclusive medical consultants for prominent families.
When Pei Jiuyao arrived at the underground parking lot, Ying Ning was already waiting there.
To be safe, Pei Jiuyao placed a hat and a mask on Chi Yang, carefully adjusting them before helping her out of the car.
Chi Yang’s legs were still weak, but the moment she saw Ying Ning, she pushed Pei Jiuyao aside and threw herself into Ying Ning’s arms.
Ying Ning caught her steadily and supported her into the elevator through the VIP passage.
Pei Jiuyao silently followed behind them.
Though Pei Jiuyao was dressed as an Alpha, she was, at her core, a Beta—utterly clueless about ABO dynamics.
Still, through some primal instinct, she could somehow sense that Ying Ning was an Alpha.
A low, territorial rage surged through her—like a lone wolf whose domain had been trespassed upon. Pei Jiuyao stared daggers into Ying Ning’s back, as if her gaze alone could burn a hole through it.
She even had the sudden urge to snatch Chi Yang away and hide her inside herself.
Snatch… Chi Yang?
A flash of imagery from the original novel surged into Pei Jiuyao’s mind—
Chi Yang gripped Pei Jiuyao’s jaw with icy fingers, her bl00d-smeared face twisted with fury. Her voice was cold and lethal:
“If anything happens to Xiao Mo, I swear I’ll make you die with her.”
If she really tried to snatch Chi Yang now, she’d probably be chopped into puzzle pieces.
Pei Jiuyao shook her head forcefully, trying to purge the intrusive thoughts.
Why did she have such a strong possessive urge toward Chi Yang?
It made no sense!
Inside the elevator, her gaze involuntarily lingered on Ying Ning—driven entirely by instinct.
As the elevator climbed, a crisp scent began to drift in the air. It was like snow falling in a forest—cold, pure, and sharp.
Chi Yang’s fingers curled slightly as she clung to Ying Ning’s white coat, leaning against her shoulder with a faint, shaky breath.
Ying Ning glanced at Pei Jiuyao, frowning slightly.
She cleared her throat and said gently, “Miss Pei… Yangyang isn’t feeling well. Could you suppress your pheromones, please?”
It wasn’t just Chi Yang—Ying Ning herself felt uncomfortable. As a rare SS-class Alpha, Pei Jiuyao’s pheromones were overwhelmingly intense.
This was a hospital, a public space. If she kept leaking such aggressive pheromones, who knew what chaos it could cause?
Pei Jiuyao stared at her and replied, “I don’t know how.”
She was being serious.
But in Ying Ning’s ears, it sounded like blatant provocation.
An SS-class Alpha flaunting dominance—it was almost impossible to counter.
Ying Ning instinctively stepped back with Chi Yang, silently thinking, No wonder people call her trash—so reckless with her pheromones, doesn’t care if it causes panic.
She removed her own pheromone suppressant bracelet, adjusted it to maximum strength, and handed it to Pei Jiuyao.
“It’s a suppressant bracelet. Why don’t you wear it for now? There are other medical staff around—you might overwhelm them.”
Pei Jiuyao took it curiously, examining it in her palm.
Seeing her hesitation, Ying Ning added, “Don’t worry. It’s a high-end model—retails for hundreds of thousands. Completely safe.”
Pei Jiuyao mimicked the way Ying Ning had unclasped it earlier and fastened it around her wrist.
Next to the clasp was a setting switch. She noticed Ying Ning had set it to the highest level, choosing “Suppress Self” rather than “Suppress Others.”
So this was why it was so expensive—it really was a high-tech gadget.
When the elevator doors opened on the top floor, Ying Ning led Chi Yang out first.
Pei Jiuyao stepped forward and offered, “Dr. Ying, let me help support her.”
But as soon as her hand brushed Chi Yang’s arm, Chi Yang’s body jolted violently. She recoiled and growled lowly, “Pei Jiuyao, don’t touch me!”
Pei Jiuyao froze, her hand recoiling as she stared in stunned silence.
Chi Yang looked even worse than before. Through the gap between her mask and hat, her reddened, tear-filled eyes glistened.
Seeing Pei Jiuyao’s dazed expression, her lashes trembled, and tears rolled down her cheeks, dripping onto her mask and pooling into a tiny puddle.
Her voice was soft and trembling. “Don’t go yet. Wait for me outside.”
“…Okay,” Pei Jiuyao responded blankly as she watched Ying Ning take Chi Yang into the hospital room.
A pang of sourness tightened in her chest. Her little fox had been taken away.
Her… what?
Pei Jiuyao shook her head again, hard.
Why was she feeling so possessive over someone she’d only just met?
This wasn’t rational.
Sure, they’d slept together last night, and Chi Yang was exactly her type—soft voice, sweet scent, skin smooth and perfect to touch, even sweeter to bite…
Stop!
Pei Jiuyao sat down heavily in a chair in the corridor and rubbed her temples hard.
System wipe. Reset.

In the Hospital Room
Chi Yang had been given an inhibitor injection. She now lay on the hospital bed, her collar slightly open. The unnatural flush had faded from her skin, and her eyes had regained their usual icy clarity.
She sat up, adjusted the pillow behind her waist, and sipped some nutrient solution.
A moment later, Ying Ning walked in with a few pages of medical data, smiling. “You’re recovering well.”
Chi Yang placed the drink on the cabinet, her expression blank. Her voice was indifferent. “As long as I don’t smell her pheromones, I’m fine.”
“Honestly, I’m surprised her pheromones affected you at all.”
Chi Yang let out a cold laugh. “So am I.”
She had been a fully differentiated SS-class Alpha for nearly ten years. The fact that she had unexpectedly undergone a second differentiation into an Omega was absurd.
That shift had damaged her physiology, disrupted her pheromone system, rendered standard inhibitors useless, and made her heats extremely sensitive.
She couldn’t be marked or soothed by just any Alpha. Only specialized injections worked.
But somehow—Pei Jiuyao could mark her.
And after being marked, she experienced a rare, almost extinct Omega state of submission:
Clinging dependency on the Alpha, separation anxiety, irrational fear of abandonment, the urge to cry after being scolded…
Absolutely ridiculous.
Chi Yang’s gaze grew colder, sharp as a blade resting on the hospital bed.
If she was going to regress into a baby—or worse, an animal—she’d rather gouge out her gland than become enslaved to a scumbag.
Still, Pei Jiuyao’s behavior today had caught her off guard.
Could it be… she really wasn’t the one who drugged me?
“Yangyang,” Ying Ning called gently, pulling her out of her spiral.
“We detected traces of X2-9 in your bl00d.”
Chi Yang frowned. “What’s that?”
“It’s a new kind of Omega heat-inducing agent,” Ying Ning said gravely. “Imported. Very expensive. Currently only circulating among the upper class.”
Then she added, “The entertainment industry too, likely.”
“I’ve never heard of it,” Chi Yang muttered, rubbing her forehead irritably.
“You don’t party, of course you haven’t,” Ying Ning lowered her voice. “But Pei Jiuyao…”
Everyone knew Pei Jiuyao partied hard.
Chi Yang’s face darkened. Her fingers curled tightly into the bedsheets, leaving faint marks.
She understood Ying Ning’s implication.
Pei Jiuyao was rich and reckless—it would’ve been easy for her to get her hands on something like this. Chi Yang had always harbored doubts about her.
Still, considering how Pei Jiuyao had treated her today…
Chi Yang decided to give her a chance.
“Ningning,” she said coolly, “help me check if Pei Jiuyao was drugged last night.”
“Pei Jiuyao?” Ying Ning blinked. “She told you that?”
Chi Yang nodded.
Ying Ning tucked away Chi Yang’s report and said, “Don’t worry. I was going to run a bl00d test on her anyway—to check your pheromone compatibility.”

Pei Jiuyao sat in the hallway outside, restlessly kicking at the floor as Ying Ning passed back and forth.
Eventually, she got up and leaned against the door, peering through a small glass window.
Chi Yang sat up in bed talking to Ying Ning. Her dark hair fell loosely around her, slender shoulders sharp beneath her gown.
Her eyes were like glass beads—cool, light brown. She looked mostly calm, occasionally frowning slightly.
Pei Jiuyao pressed her ear to the glass like a voyeur, but the room was too soundproof to hear anything.
Suddenly, Chi Yang brushed her long hair back, revealing a faint bite mark on her neck.
Pei Jiuyao instinctively ran her tongue along her canine tooth.
Just then, Ying Ning turned and walked toward the door.
Panicked, Pei Jiuyao jerked back and sat down quickly, pretending to kick the floor again.
When Ying Ning exited, she looked up and smiled, “Dr. Ying!”
She stood and asked casually, “Can I go in now?”
Ying Ning paused.
For some reason, she felt a deep hostility hidden beneath that smile.
“Miss Pei, since you marked Yangyang last night, I need to run a bl00d test to confirm your current health status.”
Pei Jiuyao visibly deflated and glanced toward the door. “Oh…”
Still can’t go in?
“Alright, let’s get it over with.” She quickly rolled up her sleeve and grinned, forgetting to hide her canines. Pei Jiuyao said.
Seeing her sharp teeth, Ying Ning shivered involuntarily.
“This way, please.”
In the bl00d draw room, Pei Jiuyao watched her bl00d flow into the tube, licking her lips with reddened eyes.
Ying Ning, under great pressure, finally withdrew the needle and took a deep breath—immediately stepping back.
“Thank you,” Pei Jiuyao said, raising a brow. “Can I see Chi Yang now?”
Ying Ning stiffened slightly.
Did… did she just say thank you?
This was the same Pei Jiuyao who had terrorized every doctor in the hospital?
Was marking Chi Yang really capable of transforming her like this?
Right now, Pei Jiuyao was smiling with a hint of cocky swagger—looking every bit the Alpha who believed her territory had been trespassed upon.
She had unconsciously assumed the role of a jealous lover.
Completely overtaken by instinct.
It wasn’t the behavior of someone with a messy personal life—it was the kind no Omega could resist. Ying Ning found herself worrying about Chi Yang.
“You can go, but she’s in the VIP ward. She may be resting—don’t wake her.”
She paused. “And wear the bracelet.”
Pei Jiuyao touched her wrist. “Thanks, Dr. Ying. I’ll return yours once I find mine.”

The VIP ward had a solid wood door. You couldn’t see inside.
Pei Jiuyao hesitated outside, then decided not to knock. Ying Ning said she might be sleeping.
When she pushed the door open, she saw Chi Yang curled on the bed, eyes closed, brows faintly furrowed.
A strange pang tugged at her chest. Pei Jiuyao quietly sat beside the bed and gently brushed her fingertip over Chi Yang’s brow.
The girl on the bed let out a small sound and reached out as if to grab her hand, but Pei Jiuyao quickly pulled away.
Chi Yang had changed into hospital clothes. The pale blue and white stripes made her look even more fragile. Her dark lashes fluttered against her skin, casting soft shadows.
Pei Jiuyao leaned in and took a light sniff. The sweet strawberry scent was gone, replaced by harsh disinfectant.
She figured that must have been Chi Yang’s pheromones.
The sense of loss hit her like a wave.
She fiddled with the bracelet—switching it from “Suppress Self” to “Suppress Others,” lowering the intensity, then returning it to default.
Her memory was hazy. She couldn’t quite recall what the bracelet even did.
As she clicked through the settings, Chi Yang let out a soft groan.
Pei Jiuyao quickly reset it and looked up.
Chi Yang had rolled onto her back, arms resting beside her head, and was staring at her with misty eyes.
“…Why are you here?” she asked, voice soft.
“You told me to wait for you.” Pei Jiuyao replied.
Chi Yang made a small noise of recognition, rolled over again, and looked at her.
The sheets were rumpled beneath her.
She sniffed lightly, as if searching for a familiar scent, then frowned in confusion and opened her eyes again to study Pei Jiuyao. She bit her finger absently.
Pei Jiuyao just sat there, stiff, unsure what to say.
After a while, Chi Yang mumbled, “I’m hungry.”
Pei Jiuyao’s voice softened. “What do you want to eat?”
Chi Yang’s eyes were unfocused, but she thought carefully. “I want soup… fish maw chicken.”
Then she closed her eyes and drifted off again.
Pei Jiuyao gently pulled the blanket over her, her breath brushing softly against Pei Jiuyao’s hand.
Pei Jiuyao looked at her, lips curling into a small smile.
Fish maw chicken…
Sounds like exactly the kind of thing a little fox would like.
