After the Top Idol Omega and I Started Living Together - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
The cars passing on the road stirred a light breeze, which followed the opened door of the bar and brought the quiet night inside.
The dim light swayed with the tender, clear singing voice, and the scattered people sitting hummed along familiarly, not noticing the two shadows standing opposite each other in the corner.
A moment of exertion was followed by a long pause.
The wine from the just-fallen glass was cool, now soaking and clinging to Sheng Jingyu’s legs, making her silent, subdued nerves tremble slightly. Her pupils dilated slightly, and the suddenly narrowed distance left only Lu Zhao’s questioning lips in her sight.
Those lips, stained with wine, were delicately outlined in red, and heavy breaths stirred hot air, sweeping up the scent that had just settled.
The surging seawater did not dilute the smell of alcohol around them at all; instead, it grew stronger in Sheng Jingyu’s nose, rushing wildly yet always softening just before choking her, like a lychee long soaked in ice water placed in her mouth.
This was a scent Sheng Jingyu had never smelled before.
Her heart felt like a clock had suddenly risen from the ground, resonating with the sound of the surging seawater, striking her ears beat by beat.
Unbelievable.
Due to a hereditary family disease, Sheng Jingyu’s glands were congenitally underdeveloped, her Omega pheromones faint and odorless, unable to perfectly match with any Alpha. Because of this, she had never smelled any Alpha’s pheromones.
So, how could she suddenly smell an Alpha’s pheromones?
The light was mottled, and the seawater surged in waves in the confined space, floating an unreal decadence in the air.
The waves surged, and green grapes fell helplessly, their pure color reflecting on the water’s surface, dyeing the seawater a jade green.
Could this be the scent of an Alpha’s pheromones…?
Was this really the scent of an Alpha’s pheromones?
Sheng Jingyu looked at the person standing across from her, her gaze silent, but her heart was not calm.
In the thirteenth year of being an Omega, she finally felt like an Omega. She restrained herself but couldn’t help secretly exploring this completely novel and tempting scent.
Closer.
Even closer…
Sheng Jingyu was too greedy for a moment, not noticing that Lu Zhao had quietly released her grip on her wrist.
The booth in the corner was unusually quiet, with only restless breathing floating in the air.
Sheng Jingyu felt her restricted wrist was free, and she looked up in confusion, seeing Lu Zhao gazing down at her.
The subtle, gentle breath stirred stray hairs, causing a light itch to fall on her neck.
Sheng Jingyu’s movement was so subtle, quiet, and sneaky that it took a while for Lu Zhao to notice this person seemed to be using the chance to get closer to her glands.
Clearly, she had been the one to assertively pose the question earlier, but now she was the one being taken advantage of.
Alphas always liked to dominate, and such situations often made them displeased.
Especially now, when Lu Zhao was drunk.
“Miss, are you smelling my scent?”
The light fell on both of them, and the incandescent lamp made Lu Zhao’s eyes glow with an amber sheen.
Her eyes narrowed slightly, her breath heavy with alcohol.
Her calm voice was polite yet strikingly direct.
Even though Lu Zhao’s mind was full of illogical drunkenness, she knew Betas couldn’t smell pheromones of any kind.
And this puzzled her.
The light fell, and Lu Zhao propped her chin with one hand, thoughtful: “So, do Betas also get curious about an Alpha’s scent?”
The night breeze blew through the opened door into the bar, bringing only a moment of coolness.
Sheng Jingyu suddenly sobered, realizing the Alpha across from her was so unrestrained because she thought Sheng Jingyu was a Beta.
But she wasn’t a Beta.
Sheng Jingyu thought she should explain to Lu Zhao.
But she…
The light trembled lightly along her throat, and the suppressed voice was hoarse and rough.
The dim environment barely allowed her to see people’s movements, let alone gestures.
She was like a failed experiment of the creator, her vocal cords oppressed by her glands, unable to voice her protest.
Her singing career had also ended in its thirteenth year because of this.
—Lu Zhao could never have dreamed that the person entangled with her now was the Jingyun she thought of day and night.
After waiting for a while, Lu Zhao still didn’t get Sheng Jingyu’s response.
Dully, she exhaled a puff of heavy wine breath, her expression disappointed: “Boring.”
The surrounding vision was dim, and Lu Zhao stared at Sheng Jingyu so openly.
She thought even though this person was so beautiful that even she, seasoned in the entertainment industry, was amazed, being ignored repeatedly like this was hard not to find annoying.
Lu Zhao pursed her lips, carelessly raising her hand to brush her hair.
As her long hair fell through her fingers, the gland on her neck sensitively protested.
Lu Zhao thought the inhibitor patch, which hadn’t been properly applied, had loosened again. She raised her hand to adjust it, but then noticed the small white patch hanging on her fingers.
This was the inhibitor patch meant for the back of her neck.
Her fingers, holding the white patch, swayed unsteadily in the light. Lu Zhao frowned slightly, muttering to herself: “Ah… how did you fall off?”
Drunk, the sequence of memories in Lu Zhao’s mind was jumbled, and now she recalled Sheng Jingyu secretly smelling her pheromones.
She didn’t know why a Beta would be interested in an Alpha’s pheromones, but she still felt unwilling about Sheng Jingyu’s silent indifference.
“If you’re willing to talk to me, I’ll give it to you.”
Her face still had that pretty, smiling look, but her words were bluntly malicious.
Her long, dense eyelashes fluttered slightly, watching silently, delicate and hazy, filled with an ambiguous air mixed with alcohol.
The white patch fanned the air with her movements, and the scent, which had settled, spread again in this small space.
The seawater wrapped around the grapes, slowly stirring long waves, crashing toward Sheng Jingyu’s shore.
Thump, thump.
Jingyun’s singing voice rose high, and through it, Sheng Jingyu clearly heard her heart beating.
Back in school, Sheng Jingyu had known that Alpha and Omega pheromones were mutually attractive. Whether Alpha or Omega, smelling the other’s pheromones would throw their emotions off balance, beyond control.
Her classmates and friends firmly believed this, sharing in private chats about the treasure-like pheromones they discovered.
But because of her condition, Sheng Jingyu couldn’t smell or experience such changes. She listened to these shared descriptions, unbothered.
How could a person’s behavior be swayed by a mere scent?
Yes, how could it?
And yet, how could it not?
The overhead light enlarged and cast Lu Zhao’s shadow, stubbornly covering Sheng Jingyu’s vision, dominating the inescapable allure.
There were no windows nearby, and the dim bar floated with restless heat.
The scent of fermented lychee wine spread layer by layer on the water’s surface with the waves, sharp yet exuding a tempting sweetness. Her clear, cold eyes, just a second ago, now grew lost because of this scent, making her forget her situation.
Sheng Jingyu pressed her lips tightly, her hand on the table slightly curling.
She had to admit she indeed longed for the inhibitor patch in Lu Zhao’s hand.
Her silver-gray pupils flickered restlessly with a burning flame, a hint of desolation flashing through the red.
She also wanted to speak, to make a sound when she opened her mouth.
“…e”
“Are you an Omega?”
Sheng Jingyu struggled hoarsely, and suddenly Lu Zhao’s surprised voice came to her ears.
The dim light shifted again, and Lu Zhao watched Sheng Jingyu’s scattered hair fall as she finally moved.
In the shadows, something familiar passed her sight.
—An inhibitor patch.
Betas didn’t differentiate and had no glands requiring an inhibitor patch.
And Alphas would have strong pheromone repulsion between them.
Their eyes met, and Lu Zhao saw Sheng Jingyu’s pupils swept by the overhead light, their pale, almost unreal silver-white color exuding a coldness out of place in this bar, cleanly beautiful yet tinged with a striking blush.
She wasn’t a Beta, but an Omega!
Despite her drunkenness, Lu Zhao decisively pulled back after learning the person across from her was an Omega.
She couldn’t use such卑劣 means on an Omega.
Her rationality forcibly awakened, Lu Zhao restrained herself, controlling the faint release of her scent without the inhibitor patch.
But just as she was about to retract the inhibitor patch stuck to her hand, the next second, a hand suddenly reached out and interrupted her.
The white patch fell rustling, landing directly in Sheng Jingyu’s hand.
Lu Zhao slammed on the brakes, stopping everything, but Sheng Jingyu’s bewitched nerves couldn’t calm.
Her body, once as still as death, seemed to be gradually reviving because of this scent.
The seawater mixed with fermented lychee alcohol passed through her throat, pulling her down to drown.
A booming sound seemed to rise, the seawater surging toward the sky with a roar before a storm, the sharp wine scent growing stronger.
Though it was a stifling, scorching summer night outside, Sheng Jingyu felt her world was about to be drenched in a deluge.
Not enough.
She wanted to plunder more from the source.
Sheng Jingyu felt more pheromones enveloping her.
She leaned forward, toward the gland emitting that fatal scent.
Inch by inch, bit by bit.
The gland hidden under long hair was full, like a lychee.
So close.
“…!”
Bright sunlight pierced through thin curtains into the room, and the person lying on the plain white bed slightly furrowed her brow.
Sparrows chirped, hopping on the tree branches outside the window, as if disturbed. Sheng Jingyu suddenly opened her eyes.
The next second, her pupils staring at the ceiling were filled with confusion.
Her chest’s rise and fall didn’t calm, each breath plundering the thin oxygen.
But in this large room, oxygen was everywhere.
The indulgent lights of the night were overwhelmed by the sun, the sky a clear, deep blue.
The hotel room’s scenes faded one by one, and Sheng Jingyu was now in her own bedroom.
Cool air blew slowly from the central air conditioning, brushing over Sheng Jingyu’s sweat-dampened forehead.
A corner of the thin blanket neatly rested on her waist, but its unnoticed end was messily tangled around her long, slender legs.
It was unclear who had provoked whom first.
Sheng Jingyu wasn’t someone who slept messily, yet she seemed to deliberately ignore something, not tidying the disordered blanket.
She turned her head, her reddened fingers hooking the small white patch on the bedside, her amber pupils calm and restrained.
But the faint scent of green grapes still trembled out, tinging the room with the dry bitterness of absinthe.
Her breathing still uneven, Sheng Jingyu realized what an uncontrollable dream she had continued.
With that Alpha miss from last night, whose pheromones she could smell.
