After Transmigrating as a Scumbag Gong, I Ended Up with the Cannon Fodder - Chapter 11
Yin Man’s ears burned as she hastily tugged her hair forward to hide them, glancing at the uninvited guest in the hospital room. Mei Xuying stood there in a long white dress, her dark hair cascading to her waist, radiating an aura of gentle deception.
Her gaze swept lightly over Yin Man before settling on Liu Siyin. “I didn’t realize my cousin had such a leisurely disposition.”
“She’s always made sure to have a beauty by her side, no matter where she goes,” a cold female voice interjected, tinged with a hint of softness. A woman emerged from behind Mei Xuying, her skin porcelain white and her dark eyes like polished black gems, reflecting subtle glimmers of light that drew the eye.
She was holding the hand of a girl—the same one who had confronted Yin Man earlier.
Jiang Yan?
Her former personal physician.
Yin Man’s mind drifted, her heart pounding in her chest with an unnameable emotion. Jiang Yan cast a casual glance at Liu Siyin, her expression utterly neutral, revealing no emotion. She simply said, “I never expected you would get engaged.”
Why does that sound like they have a history?
Yin Man asked uncertainly, “We never dated, did we?”
“No, we never dated,” Jiang Yan admitted frankly. Yin Man voiced her suspicion: “Then why would your cousin—”
“Everyone says Miss Yin would even seduce a passing hen. I’ve been by your side for three years and we haven’t even dated. I can’t possibly admit I’m worse than a chicken.” Yin Man glanced at her, her pupils narrowing slightly. “You’re truly bored.”
“We may not have dated, but your violent tendencies are undeniable. Your ex-girlfriends, the ones still breathing, have plenty of bad things to say about you.” Though Jiang Yan’s expression remained impassive, the corners of her eyes and brows held a deep mockery, revealing her contempt for Yin Man.
Such mockery would have enraged the Original Host, but it didn’t faze Yin Man.
She simply replied, “Oh.”
As far as she was concerned, as long as things were fine between her and Jiang Yan, that was all that mattered. Still, Jiang Yan was undeniably beautiful, just a bit difficult to get along with.
Yin Man’s overly direct scrutiny only deepened Jiang Yan’s scorn. “Even getting engaged hasn’t curbed your promiscuous nature, Miss Yin. After all, a mere illegitimate daughter can’t control you—she’s just a pretty vase to display at home.”
Jiang Yan’s mockery was like a dense swarm of needles, piercing Liu Siyin without drawing bl00d, yet wounding her heart and soul.
Liu Siyin lowered her head slightly, a look of desolation creeping across her delicate features. Already feeling inferior due to her humble origins, her recent blindness only deepened her sense of inadequacy. She knew she was reaching above her station by being with Yin Man, and even the slightest provocation could trigger her deep-seated insecurities.
Can’t these women respect the original story? she thought bitterly. The kind and gentle Mei Xuying is a hypocrite, while the aloof Jiang Yan is a viper with a sharp tongue.
“Are you all crazy?!” Yin Man snapped, her irritation growing at the commotion in the hospital room. She pressed Liu Siyin back onto the bed and glared at the three women’s bodyguards standing outside the door. “Didn’t I tell you to throw them out?”
“Miss Yin, Miss Mei insisted on visiting,” one of the bodyguards explained. Yin Man knew they recognized Mei Xuying and would show her deference, even if they ignored the other two sisters.
Mei Xuying finally spoke up. “Cousin, are you kicking me out already?”
“I heard your younger sister Jiang Wan upset you, so I brought her here to apologize.”
This didn’t sound like an apology; it felt more like a provocation, especially with all three of them arriving together.
Yin Man’s impatience intensified. Mei Xuying pushed Jiang Wan forward. “Go on, apologize to Sister Man.”
“I’m sorry, Sister Man!” Mei Xuying must have said something to Jiang Wan, because the woman who had been shouting in her hospital room just moments ago was now actually apologizing. Yin Man responded with a curt, “Apology accepted. You can leave now.”
“You’ve changed,” Jiang Yan observed, her beautiful brows furrowing in confusion. “If this were the old you, you’d demand to know who was badmouthing you outside and hunt them down one by one to teach them a lesson. If this were the old you, you’d strip Jiang Wan naked and throw her to the sharks for offending you.”
“So, should I throw her to the sharks?” Yin Man raised an eyebrow, her tone challenging.
Jiang Yan’s brow twitched slightly. “No need.”
“Apology accepted. You’ve said your piece. Now get out and don’t come back unless you have a good reason.” They’d better leave quickly; she still needed to comfort Liu Siyin.
Jiang Yan’s gaze drifted upward, settling on Yin Man’s striking, beautiful face. When she saw Yin Man’s tender, affectionate gaze fixed on Liu Siyin, her pupils constricted sharply, her heart momentarily stopped beating, and a lump of tension rose in her throat, so tight it felt like a physical ache.
“I never thought Miss Yin would show such tenderness,” Jiang Yan remarked, a sardonic twist to her lips. Yin Man, too preoccupied to notice her strange behavior, waved them off dismissively. “Get out.”
If they didn’t leave now, Yin Man would lose all pretense of politeness toward Mei Xuying.
Even after leaving the hospital room, Jiang Yan couldn’t shake the image of those eyes—eyes filled with tenderness and compassion, eyes that seemed utterly unlike Yin Man’s.
Having known Yin Man for years, Jiang Yan had always seen her as arrogant, domineering, and utterly ruthless. Everyone in their circle feared and despised her, Jiang Yan included.
The humiliation Yin Man had inflicted when forcing Jiang Yan to become her personal physician remained an unforgettable scar. In Jiang Yan’s mind, Yin Man had always been a cold-blooded, heartless creature. Yet that gentle demeanor seemed genuine.
Jiang Yan couldn’t help but ask Mei Xuying, “Xuying, don’t you think Yin Man has changed?”
Mei Xuying’s smile froze, but before she could answer, Jiang Wan interjected, “Cousin, no matter how she changes, she’s still a lunatic.”
“That poor, pretty girl,” Jiang Wan continued, her tone dripping with pity for Liu Siyin. “Blind and forced to entertain her whims. She’ll be discarded soon enough.” Jiang Wan’s words dripped with pity for Liu Siyin, a name Jiang Yan had also heard. The scandal of Yin Man rejecting her arranged marriage, devaluing Liu Siyin to nothing, and tossing her to her younger sister had been too sensational to ignore.
Liu Siyin was undeniably beautiful. Even Jiang Yan, herself a striking woman, had to admit that Liu Siyin’s beauty was extraordinary. Was that why Yin Man favored her so?
Jiang Yan quickly dismissed this unrealistic thought. Anyone who had spent time around Yin Man knew she cared little for faces; her true obsession lay with legs. She reveled in tormenting beautiful legs, turning others into cripples like herself—a testament to her twisted and perverse nature. Jiang Yan didn’t know if Liu Siyin’s legs were particularly attractive, but she preferred to believe that the fleeting moment earlier had been a mere illusion. As Jiang Wan had said, sooner or later, Yin Man would abandon Liu Siyin.
Once she’s had her fill of playing with her.
Mei Xuying’s lips curved into a faint smile. “You think she’s pretty?”
Hearing the gentle tone, Jiang Wan waved her hands frantically. “Of course not! Xuying-jie is the most beautiful.”
“Such a sweet tongue,” Mei Xuying said, pleased. She casually wrapped an arm around Jiang Wan’s waist. Jiang Yan watched, silently averting her gaze.
After Jiang Yan’s major surgery, it was late by the time she finished cleaning up. She packed her things, intending to go home, but found herself inexplicably drawn to Liu Siyin’s hospital room.
The menacing bodyguards were gone. As soon as Jiang Yan paused outside the door, it creaked open. Liu Siyin, a delicate and beautiful woman, emerged.
Clinging to the wall for support, Liu Siyin moved cautiously, afraid of losing her way back. She only dared to step to the doorway, gently closing the door behind her before sinking to the floor outside the room, sobbing softly.
She couldn’t see and didn’t notice Jiang Yan’s presence.
Jiang Yan was stunned by the sight before her. Liu Siyin was impossibly beautiful, bathed in moonlight streaming through the hospital window. The soft glow illuminated her delicate face, making her tears appear like glistening pearls rolling down her cheeks. She murmured softly, “It’s so beautiful.”
If it’s so beautiful, why are you crying? Jiang Yan couldn’t understand. Liu Siyin was truly skilled at crying; her tears tugged at Jiang Yan’s heart. It was no wonder Wang Gu couldn’t resist fantasizing about her.
Jiang Yan approached slowly and crouched in front of Liu Siyin. “Why are you out here? Did Yin Man bully you?”
Liu Siyin snapped out of her reverie. “I recognize your voice, Jiang Yan,” she said.
Jiang Yan was surprised that Liu Siyin knew her name. “Your hearing is quite good,” she remarked.
Liu Siyin didn’t seem to care about the compliment. “You don’t like Sister Man,” she said. “I hate you.”
In all her years, Jiang Yan had encountered mostly women who feared Yin Man, avoiding her at all costs. This was the first time she’d heard a woman dislike her because of her conflict with Yin Man.
By any measure, she seemed like a better person than Yin Man.
“It’s not just me who dislikes Yin Man. You should know better than anyone how terrifying she is.” Before Yin Man became engaged, Liu Siyin had been Yin Youxia’s fiancée, deeply involved with the Yin Family. Moreover, Yin Man had repeatedly humiliated Liu Siyin’s status in public—she couldn’t have been deaf; she must have heard it all.
Does Liu Siyin have a masochistic streak? Jiang Yan wondered.
Jiang Yan suspected Liu Siyin was unwell. Liu Siyin gently shook her head. “But she’s been so good to me. No one has ever treated me so well.”
It was clear she craved affection.
But entrusting that affection to Yin Man was foolish. Someone like Yin Man, who only offered fleeting scraps of affection, would inevitably take it back.
Jiang Yan couldn’t resist pouring cold water on her hopes. “But she’ll always abandon you in the end. Miss Yin’s relationships never last longer than three months.”
Liu Siyin remained silent for a long time before finally asking, “Dr. Jiang, could you prescribe me some sleeping pills?”
“I’m having trouble sleeping,” she offered, her excuse sounding awkward even to her own ears. Jiang Yan didn’t know why she was giving Liu Siyin sleeping pills, but in that moment, she felt a pang of jealousy. She had been by Yin Man’s side for three years and had never seen her show such tenderness or pity toward anyone.
She couldn’t understand what charm the blind Liu Siyin possessed. Though she was undeniably beautiful, Yin Man had never given the healthy Liu Siyin a second glance. In fact, the healthy Liu Siyin had been the target of Yin Man’s daily verbal humiliations.
The sudden shift was bizarre. The woman who should have become Yin Man’s sister-in-law had become her lover, and then her fiancé ended up in the hospital for harassing Yin Man’s lover. In a way, Jiang Yan had to thank Liu Siyin for this turn of events; otherwise, her wedding date wouldn’t have been postponed.
She decided to consider this bottle of sleeping pills her way of expressing gratitude to Liu Siyin.
Since she couldn’t save Liu Siyin, she would at least give her the right to choose death. She had noticed Liu Siyin’s subtle intentions: the woman planned to take her own life on the day Yin Man abandoned her.
Helping others brings joy, right?
