After Transmigrating as a Scumbag Gong, I Ended Up with the Cannon Fodder - Chapter 8
Wang Gu was Mei Xuying’s most famous suitor. They had been childhood sweethearts, but what truly defined him wasn’t his relationship with Mei Xuying, but his insatiable greed for beauty.
He was another quintessential scumbag, second only to the Original Host.
Despite having a legitimate fiancée, he pursued Mei Xuying even after marriage. At the Original Host’s urging, he repeatedly harassed Yin Youxia, hoping to get a piece of her. He was one of Yin Man’s degenerate friends.
What was he doing here? Still after Liu Siyin?
Yin Man felt a growing sense of unease.
After much deliberation, Wang Gu decided to see Liu Siyin with his own eyes.
He had fallen for Liu Siyin at first sight three years ago at a charity gala. Though she lacked an aristocratic background, her beauty was unparalleled, stunning even Wang Gu, a man accustomed to seeing beautiful women.
But Liu Siyin had her sights set firmly on Yin Man. They were drinking buddies, both second-generation heirs who indulged in hedonistic pursuits. Yin Man had publicly humiliated Liu Siyin, reducing her to nothing. This deterred many who coveted her beauty. To further humiliate Yin Youxia, Yin Man had even offered Liu Siyin to her. Later, over drinks with friends, they joked about whether Yin Man was sabotaging Yin Youxia or giving her a gift.
If not for their connection, he would have made his move long ago.
Now that Yin Youxia was the one calling off the engagement, offering such a beauty to him on a silver platter, he naturally intended to accept with glee.
Wang Gu had a fiancée, but that didn’t dampen his interest in beautiful women. His fiancée clearly held no sway over him whatsoever. After all, it was a political marriage—what harm could come from each pursuing their own pleasures?
Though Liu Siyin hadn’t formally broken off the engagement with Yin Youxia, it was a foregone conclusion. Liu Mei naturally wouldn’t refuse his request to visit her under the guise of checking on her health.
Liu Siyin seemed lost in thought, completely unaware of his entrance.
Her pale, delicate face tilted toward the window, bathed in sunlight. Her beautiful eyes gazed blankly outward, unfocused, as if still savoring the warmth.
The bandages had been removed. Apart from her blindness, she appeared as radiant as ever. Liu Siyin’s thick, curled lashes trembled slightly in the sunlight, and the warm rays kissed a faint blush onto her smooth, fair cheeks. Her simple nightgown revealed a generous expanse of her luminous, porcelain-white neck. Through the slightly open collar, Wang Gu caught a tantalizing glimpse of her delicate curves, so fair and tender that he unconsciously swallowed hard.
She was still as beautiful as ever, even without her eyes.
The commotion finally startled Liu Siyin. She snapped out of her daze, clutching the bedsheets in a display of her anxiety. “Who’s there?”
“Liu Siyin, Yin Youxia is breaking off your engagement.” The abrupt male voice tightened the air in the room. Liu Siyin gripped the sheets even tighter, her fear making her resemble a fragile pet, only intensifying Wang Gu’s desire to cherish her. “Let me introduce myself. I’m Wang Gu, your future benefactor.”
“No, you’re not,” Liu Siyin insisted, her palms sweating profusely. “Sister Man… Sister Man will take care of me.”
She was referring to Yin Man, not Yin Youxia.
Wang Gu suddenly recalled the rumors circulating outside—the rumors about Yin Man and Liu Siyin. Could they actually be true?
No, impossible.
Someone with Yin Man’s temperament would never do something so self-contradictory. She had repeatedly expressed her disdain for Liu Siyin in public. Wang Gu approached the bed, his fingertips gently reaching out to touch Liu Siyin’s chin. “Which Sister Man?”
“Ah!” Liu Siyin recoiled in terror, scrambling backward until she slammed against the wall, ignoring the pain. She fumbled for a pair of scissors and held them defensively across her chest. “D-don’t come any closer!”
“Stop pretending to be a virtuous woman. Your sister already said that anyone who wants to play with you, the little blind girl, just needs to ask her first.”
Liu Siyin gripped the scissors, her entire body trembling. Darkness enveloped her vision, and the words dragged her deeper into the abyss. Liu Mei was still planning to sell her off, and Yin Man hadn’t come.
Was Yin Man lying to her?
The scissors drew closer to her heart. She had wanted to die all along. Yin Man had given her hope, making her endure each agonizing day in the darkness. She had clung to that faint glimmer of light to survive. If Yin Man didn’t come, she might as well die.
Death wouldn’t solve her problems, but sometimes it offered release.
She didn’t understand the difference between being with Yin Man and being with someone else. But if it weren’t for Yin Man, she would have ended her life long ago. Perhaps she had been preparing to enter the Yin Family, but it wasn’t that the Yin Family wouldn’t accept her—it was more likely that Yin Man wanted to marry her, while this man wanted to be her patron.
What truly mattered was the flicker of pity in Yin Man’s eyes and the comforting words that still echoed in her ears.
Even at her worst, Yin Man had shown her a sliver of warmth.
Something Liu Mei and Yin Youxia had never given her.
She would even ask for Liu Siyin’s consent instead of negotiating directly with Liu Mei. She still believed in Yin Man. If Yin Man could come and take her away, she would marry her, even if it meant being beaten to death. Anything was better than dying in such a wretched state.
Wang Gu hadn’t actually intended to harm Liu Siyin. The marriage hadn’t been formally annulled, making her still technically half a member of the Yin Family.
But her brandishing the scissors enraged him. “You’re just a plaything Liu Mei keeps around for entertainment,” he sneered. “It doesn’t matter who you’re with.”
“Liu Siyin, you’ve played with Yin Youxia, haven’t you?”
He advanced on her, step by step. Liu Siyin, paralyzed with terror, swung the scissors wildly, accidentally slashing Wang Gu’s arm. He yelped in pain, “Fvck!”
He lunged to snatch the scissors, but Liu Siyin turned the blade against herself. In the struggle, the scissors plunged into her abdomen. Bl00d gushed between her fingers, the metallic stench clouding Wang Gu’s mind until a sharp voice snapped him back to reality: “What are you doing?!”
He turned to see a stunningly beautiful face—a familiar one.
Could Sister Man, the woman Liu Siyin had mentioned, really be Yin Man?
A bad feeling welled up within him. Yin Man was a madwoman. She only allowed others to touch her things after she had grown tired of them and discarded them. If she hadn’t grown tired of something, she was prone to fits of rage.
The wheelchair slowly approached.
“No!” Wang Gu shouted. The scissors, still embedded in Liu Siyin’s flesh, were yanked out and plunged into his arm with a swift, backhanded motion. The wound in Liu Siyin was shallow, but the one in Wang Gu was deep. He stared in disbelief. “Manman, we’re friends.”
“As a friend, you should know better than to touch my things.” The metallic scent of bl00d filled the air, the mingled scent of their bl00d acrid and nauseating. Yin Man’s hands trembled as she gripped the wheelchair armrests. She had just stabbed someone—with such force, such ferocity.
This might have been a trivial matter for the Original Host, but it was different for her. She had always been a law-abiding citizen, never even pricking a chicken, let alone stabbing a person.
“Ugh.” The overwhelming stench of bl00d churned her stomach. Afraid of betraying her unease, Yin Man quickly snapped, “Get them to the hospital now!”
Liu Mei hurriedly ordered someone to help Wang Gu. Yin Man covered her mouth. “I said get Si Yin to the hospital.”
Her cruelty was on full display. It was clear Wang Gu was far more seriously injured. Clutching his arm, he warned, “Yin Man, if I die, you won’t be able to complete your mission.”
“Oh, I won’t die,” Yin Man replied casually. Two consciousnesses warred within her: one composed, the other disgusted.
“How the hell was I supposed to know she was actually sleeping with you?” Yin Man scoffed. “My sister told me I was having an affair with my sister-in-law.”
Wang Gu fell silent, while Yin Youxia gasped in surprise. This was the first time Yin Man had ever acknowledged having a younger sister.
Yin Youxia gestured for the others to carry Liu Siyin. “What are you all standing around for? Get my sister-in-law to the hospital!”
Wasn’t that a bit too quick of a change of heart?
Yin Man hadn’t yet shaken off her disgust when Yin Youxia’s sudden use of “sister-in-law” stunned her. She instinctively glanced at Liu Siyin, whose pale face was contorted in pain, beads of sweat rolling down her forehead. Forgetting her disgust and surprise, Yin Man would have carried Liu Siyin to the hospital herself if she could walk; these people were reacting too slowly.
“Hurry up!” In the end, Yin Zhe carried Yin Man and Liu Siyin downstairs. Watching them, Yin Man glanced at her own legs, a flicker of melancholy rising within her.
“Get me to the hospital now!” Wang Gu shouted at Liu Mei. Yin Man snapped coldly, “Liu Mei!”
Liu Mei froze, while Wang Gu, driven mad by pain and anxiety, raged, “Yin Man, stop acting crazy! She’s already broken off her engagement with Yin Youxia! Liu Mei even said anyone who wants to play around just needs to ask her!”
“Did you say that?” Yin Man’s icy gaze swept toward Liu Mei.
“N-no, no, I never said that!” Liu Mei stammered, inwardly cursing her predicament. She had only wanted to test whether Yin Man and Liu Siyin were truly involved. But when Yin Man remained silent for so long, and Wang Gu’s offer proved too tempting, she had—
Who could have predicted this backfire? That girl Liu Siyin had actually managed to hook Yin Man, who had always looked down on her. This sudden affair, though ultimately a good thing, left Liu Mei astonished by Liu Siyin’s tactics.
Yin Man glanced sideways at Wang Gu before turning to Liu Mei. “I’ve already brought the betrothal gifts. This matter is settled. Her engagement with my younger sister is null and void. She’ll be engaged to me instead. I’ll set a date for the engagement ceremony later. I’m taking her now.”
What did this mean?
Yin Man wanted to inspect the goods before even marrying her? Was she that desperate?
Or was he never planning to take responsibility, just wanting to play around? Liu Mei froze, but in the next moment, she eagerly agreed, “Alright.”
The collaboration proposal Yin Zhe had brought would bring the Liu Family far more lasting benefits than a few plots of land ever could. Yin Man was indeed far more valuable than Yin Youxia—no, she was more valuable than anyone else. She could do whatever she wanted, as long as Liu Siyin secured the Liu Family’s interests. Liu Mei didn’t care whether Yin Man would still hand over the marriage certificate after “inspecting the goods.”
Yin Youxia slowly pushed Yin Man’s wheelchair down the stairs, whispering, “Sister, the Wang Gu family isn’t someone to be trifled with.”
“Do you really think Liu Mei would let Wang Gu go unpunished?”
Even if Liu Mei had ten times the courage, she wouldn’t dare.
Wang Gu and Yin Man—she couldn’t afford to offend either of them.
She would definitely send Wang Gu to the hospital, but only after they left.
