After Transmigrating, I and the Female Lead Both Found It 'Really Fragrant' (GL) - Chapter 15
Shen Qiqi’s tears fell like a continuous spring drizzle, soaking into her skin and bones, burning hot. Her slightly trembling voice was strangely endearing.
Liu Shuang held her, as if she were holding a hot potato, not knowing what to do. She could only rack her brains for comforting words and awkwardly tried to soothe her.
The crimson light in her eyes gradually faded, and the surging demonic energy in her body seemed to have died down, shrinking back pitifully.
Whether it was in her previous life or this one, she had never done anything as gentle as comforting someone. She was used to scheming and being insincere, but for the first time, she experienced the feeling of being deeply relied on.
It was somewhat novel, and also a bit bewildering.
The Shen Qiqi of her previous life had also used tears to deceive people and shirk responsibility, but she would never curl up in her arms like this and cry as if this were the only place in the world where she could hide.
Liu Shuang hesitated for a moment, then gently patted her back, her voice carrying a hint of gentleness she hadn’t noticed herself. “Let’s leave here, okay?”
After a while, Shen Qiqi slowly tightened her grip on Liu Shuang’s sleeve and hummed softly.
A moment later, she lifted a pair of misty eyes, her nose and eyes red, and her long eyelashes were adorned with a crystal-clear teardrop, like dew.
She looked more like a wronged little girl than the arrogant and vicious young lady she had been in her previous life.
She obediently followed Liu Shuang, like a docile little tail, never doubting where her senior sister would take her. This behavior reminded Liu Shuang of the little white dog she had adopted in her previous life, so sensible and clingy, it made her heart ache.
Liu Shuang took Shen Qiqi onto her flying sword and turned back to the Herb Garden.
After this incident, she probably had lost her appetite for the lotus seed soup in the kitchen.
Away from the gruesome corpse, Shen Qiqi’s pale face gradually regained color, but she didn’t say a word all the way, unlike her usual lively self. She looked very obedient, always clutching Liu Shuang’s sleeve, and Liu Shuang tacitly allowed it.
The air was very quiet, and Liu Shuang even missed the talkative Shen Qiqi.
Habits were terrible, she thought.
When they landed in the Herb Garden, Shen Qiqi couldn’t help but rush towards the outhouse.
She supported herself against the wall, hunched over, and retched uncontrollably.
But because she hadn’t eaten anything, she couldn’t vomit anything out.
She was terrified. She had seen plenty of corpses on the news before, but this was the first time she had faced a real person without any mosaic. The level of gore was indescribable, and physiological tears flowed uncontrollably.
Her stomach ached, her head spun, and her vision blurred. There were all sorts of jumbled sounds in her ears, roaring like someone was talking.
The person was speaking intermittently, like a tape recorder with a stuck tape.
“Heaven… slay… master…” Every word had a strange tone, as if it came from a distant era.
Shen Qiqi closed her eyes and slammed her fist against the wall, gritting her teeth, “Shut up!”
With a hiss, the sound quieted down.
When the nausea finally subsided, she crouched and pushed open the door. She saw Liu Shuang standing outside with a teacup, and she didn’t know how long she had been waiting.
When she saw Shen Qiqi come out, Liu Shuang took a step forward and handed her the cup of water.
Shen Qiqi smiled gratefully at her and took a small sip. The water was still lukewarm and sweet, like well water.
Thankfully, Liu Shuang was here, otherwise she wouldn’t know what to do.
She tilted her head and drank the warm water in one gulp. She said softly, “Thank you, Senior sister.”
Liu Shuang shook her head.
Shen Qiqi raised her haggard eyes and asked hesitantly, “Senior sister, can I stay with you a little longer?”
Liu Shuang didn’t hesitate and replied, “Okay.”
The two returned to Liu Shuang’s room one after the other. As soon as the door closed, Shen Qiqi felt deflated and slumped limply at the table, resting her chin on her arms, her eyes weary.
She didn’t speak, and the atmosphere became somewhat silent.
Liu Shuang looked at her for a while, then suddenly walked out of the room, not knowing what she was up to.
Shen Qiqi’s nerves tightened immediately, and her gaze followed Liu Shuang out the window, drifting away. She wanted to get up and follow her, but she opened her mouth and had no strength.
The whole room seemed to lack warmth, becoming inexplicably cold and lonely.
Fortunately, Liu Shuang returned soon, carrying a bowl of steaming clear soup noodles.
She placed the bowl and chopsticks on the table and handed the chopsticks to Shen Qiqi.
Shen Qiqi hesitated for a moment, supported her stomach, and weakly shook her head.
Liu Shuang frowned, her tone unexpectedly firm, “Eat. After you finish, go back to your room to rest.”
Shen Qiqi hesitated, but couldn’t resist her, so she agreed softly.
She picked up the chopsticks and stirred the noodles in the bowl. The clear soup noodles had a light golden broth with a few slices of green vegetables floating on top, steaming hot. The first mouthful of soup had a hint of pepper, and the chicken broth was so fresh that it whetted her appetite, gradually eliminating Shen Qiqi’s resistance.
… It was so delicious!
Thankfully, Liu Shuang thoughtfully didn’t cook any meat bones in it, otherwise she would have to vomit again.
Shen Qiqi ate one noodle after another, and before she knew it, she had finished the whole bowl. She gulped down the remaining soup and wiped her mouth, saying with a full stomach, “I’m full!”
Liu Shuang nodded slightly and cleaned up the bowl and chopsticks. When she returned to the room, she met Shen Qiqi’s hesitant gaze.
Shen Qiqi couldn’t help but smile at her, then cautiously asked, “Senior sister, can… can I sleep here?”
Recalling what she had seen this morning, Shen Qiqi was still a little scared.
She didn’t know that her current appearance was like a clingy kitten who couldn’t leave her mother, sitting quietly in place and looking at her owner.
Liu Shuang looked away and her eyes narrowed slightly, “You can.”
Shen Qiqi took off her outer garment, leaving only a white undergarment. She buried herself in the bed. The bedding still had the same faint, light fragrance as Liu Shuang.
As soon as I closed my eyes, I saw the scene again, Shen Qiqi opened her eyes again with lingering fear.
“Senior sister…”
Liu Shuang sat at the table and glanced at her, “What’s wrong?”
“I can’t sleep,” Shen Qiqi turned over, facing her, her dark eyes shining, “Let’s chat.”
Liu Shuang looked at her, “Chat about what?”
“Anything,” Shen Qiqi said. “Senior sister, in your opinion… how did that person die?”
Liu Shuang was a little surprised. She had originally thought that Shen Qiqi wouldn’t bring up this matter on her own initiative, but it turned out that her resilience was not as weak as she had imagined.
“It was probably a demon cultivator,” Liu Shuang said.
Shen Qiqi suddenly recalled the plot in the book. When she was writing this part, she treated it as the prelude to the appearance of the demon realm and simply passed it over: ‘Many disciples died inexplicably, and the Qingli Sect was plunged into panic.’
“Demon cultivator…” she bit her lip lightly and looked at Liu Shuang, feigning ignorance. “The Qingli Sect has no grievances with the demon realm, so why would these demon cultivators suddenly come to harm people?”
Liu Shuang said indifferently, “It’s hard to guess the minds of demon cultivators. Perhaps the Qingli Sect is too high-profile and has caught their eye.”
Shen Qiqi was a little conflicted. After all, the female lead, before her character arc, viewed demon cultivation as a “heretical path” and hated it deeply.
Yet, she heard Liu Shuang suddenly ask, “If you encounter a demon cultivator in the future, what would you do?”
Shen Qiqi was startled and thought for a moment. Wasn’t this a good opportunity to save the female lead’s worldview?
She said softly, “If the demon cultivator harms innocent people, I will personally kill them. But if they are innocent and have a clear conscience, then I won’t do anything.”
Liu Shuang raised an eyebrow, “immortal cultivators and demon cultivators have always been sworn enemies. You’re quite different.”
Shen Qiqi smiled, “There are good and bad people among cultivators, and the same goes for demon cultivators. Not every demon cultivator is evil. If they are willing to use their power for the right path, wouldn’t that be a good thing?”
Liu Shuang’s eyes flickered thoughtfully.
“Oh, and one more thing.”
Shen Qiqi poked her head out of the blanket, revealing a round face the size of a palm, and looked at her with watery eyes, smiling with narrowed eyes, “Senior sister, have you ever taken care of anyone?”
Liu Shuang froze, “…Yes.”
Shen Qiqi said, “I guessed as much. Senior sister doesn’t know how to comfort people, and you sound very clumsy!”
Liu Shuang was an orphan from a young age and had no younger relatives or close friends to take care of. She helplessly admitted, “That’s true.”
Shen Qiqi rambled on for a while. She spoke ten sentences, and Liu Shuang responded with one or two words while reading a book. After waiting for a long time without hearing Shen Qiqi speak again, she looked up and found that she had already fallen asleep.
Liu Shuang came to the bed and gently tucked her in. Suddenly, she heard Shen Qiqi scream a few times, sweat dripping down her forehead, her eyes still closed, as if she was having a nightmare.
She stayed quietly beside Shen Qiqi for a while, until the other party was completely asleep, before slowly walking out of the room.
••••
It fell silently into the courtyard.
It was a corpse animated by demonic energy, drawn to powerful demonic auras. Though its appearance was indistinguishable from a human, it had no mind of its own, like a mindless puppet.
If Shen Qiqi saw it, she would probably cry out in fright—it was none other than Tang Yanhua, the man everyone had said was dead, who had risen again, alive and bloody.
The corpse, dragging its heavy, decaying body, took a few slow steps. Suddenly, it saw a slender figure approaching slowly. It seemed to be a woman, dressed in white, her figure indistinct, walking step by step, without a sound, as if walking on water, surrounded by a hazy aura.
The woman came closer and closer, and those dark shadows took the shape of flames, with ghostly black hands and feet emerging from the flames, waving wildly.
Its face changed. The closer it got to the woman, the more it could hear a terrifying scream emanating from her.
The scream was like hundreds of howls mixed together, men, women, old and young, deafening, like the screams that would be emitted in extreme terror and on the verge of collapse, causing a surge of fear from the bottom of one’s heart.
Before it could hesitate, the woman had instantly arrived in front of it.
Her face was as cold as ice, her skin was as white as snow that hadn’t seen the sun for thousands of years, and her eyes were filled with dark red gloom, like a demon that had been sleeping in the abyss for hundreds of years and had suddenly awakened. Her originally extremely ethereal eyebrows and eyes, due to her expressionless face, added an icy chill.
It smelled a surging and rich demonic aura, like a mountain and a sea surging towards it, and it couldn’t help but retreat a few steps in fear.
“Tell Si Tuyun that he can do anything to anyone, but stay away from the person in the room,” the woman looked at it coldly with her crimson eyes, as if looking at a tiny ant. “If there’s any more dirty things appearing before her, I’ll send all of you back to the demon realm.”
A/N: I’m here! I’m here! I’m here! Thank you all so much!!! (Spinning wildly)
