- Chapter 27 - I Like You! Senior Jiang.
The note appeared exactly as Jiang Shiyuan had predicted. She tore it off while Chen Zui was still fuming. Reaching for the wall, she removed a black camera, so well concealed it was nearly undetectable.
“Pervert! Pervert! Who wrote this disgusting garbage?” Chen Zui tried to comfort Jiang Shiyuan, but she had already moved away from him.
Jiang Shiyuan’s face remained as cold and expressionless as usual. Her fingers swiped incessantly across her phone screen, as if the entire incident had nothing to do with her.
The only person who could elicit any emotion from Jiang Shiyuan was likely that one special person.
“Someone like Shiyuan will definitely get caught eventually. They can’t keep this up forever. Let’s report it to the school—they’ll take it seriously since it’s you.”
Jiang Shiyuan didn’t respond immediately, her lips curving into a faint smile as she considered something. “I understand. Thank you, Chen Zui.”
The shadows of the trees swayed in the wind. Nearby, a small white cat with an orange peel-like patch on its head batted at the drooping purple flowers in the flowerbed, treating them like toys.
The fragrance of osmanthus blossoms drifted through the air, a sweet, milky scent that made one want to taste it.
“Why are you collecting these?” Qiao Yanxin asked, following behind Pei Xiangwan as she crouched down to gather the golden osmanthus flowers scattered on the ground.
Pei Xiangwan clutched her small glass jar, which had once held candy but was now filled with osmanthus blossoms instead.
“You wouldn’t understand,” Pei Xiangwan replied.
“Yes, yes, I don’t understand. Aren’t you worried Jiang Shiyuan will get tired of waiting? You’ve already wasted so much time.”
Lately, Qiao Yanxin had found Pei Xiangwan increasingly baffling, doing things she had never done before.
Pei Xiangwan suddenly stood up. “That’s right!”
She sealed the jar, shook it, and held it up to the light. The osmanthus blossoms filled the transparent jar, blocking the view of the azure sky, but she wasn’t in the mood to look anyway.
“Let’s go, let’s go! Hurry!” she said, and immediately started running.
Qiao Yanxin was exasperated. If they hadn’t wasted time collecting those flowers, they wouldn’t need to run now!
Rage burned within her, but she dared not voice it. This was someone who could take on five opponents single-handedly; if she spoke out, she might find herself embedded in a wall one day.
The two women remained completely unaware of the figure trailing them for a long, long time…
Liu Zhixu glanced at her phone intermittently, looking around and muttering, “Didn’t she say she was coming?”
Zhang Wei’s legs were numb from standing. She bent over, massaging her thighs, and asked, “Are you sure you saw her? Maybe they’ve already left.”
“I’d recognize that silhouette anywhere.”
Zhang Wei fell silent. She didn’t believe Liu Zhixu had truly moved on; she simply couldn’t accept such a defeat.
They ran for a while longer, almost reaching the large tree where they were supposed to meet Jiang Shiyuan.
Qiao Yanxin, panting heavily, patted Pei Xiangwan’s shoulder, her words coming out in gasps.
“Wait… huff… wait… a minute… I need to catch my breath…”
At this point, Qiao Yanxin had completely abandoned any pretense of composure, drooping like a wilted bellflower, her head hanging low.
She struggled to lift her head and saw Pei Xiangwan standing perfectly straight, not even breathing hard. “You… how aren’t you even out of breath?”
“I don’t know,” Pei Xiangwan replied. “Hurry up, Yan Xin! Jiang Jiang is waiting for us up ahead.”
Qiao Yanxin gritted her teeth. She shouldn’t have agreed to accompany Pei Xiangwan to this place. She’d thought it was something important, but it turned out to be just picking a flower?!
“Now you’re in a hurry!” Qiao Yanxin straightened up and trudged slowly behind Pei Xiangwan, muttering to herself, “My life is so, so miserable…”
“Wait, Pei Xiangwan! I need to ask you something.”
Pei Xiangwan froze. How could she ever forget that voice?
Meanwhile, Jiang Shiyuan, who had been waiting for Pei Xiangwan, didn’t get to see the person she longed for. Instead, she was confronted with—
“I like you! Senior Sister Jiang, will you be my girlfriend?”
Jiang Shiyuan lifted her gaze, her icy stare like a winter wind, mercilessly landing on the girl before her, who clutched a plush toy tightly, her face still bearing traces of youth.
The crowd of onlookers swelled, drawn by the spectacle, certain of the inevitable rejection.
“She’s clearly a freshman!”
“Doesn’t this happen all the time?”
“Do you think Jiang Shiyuan is waiting for Pei Xiangwan?”
Faced with Jiang Shiyuan’s silence, the girl lowered her head, as if sinking into a black hole. Suddenly, a clear, cold voice shattered the surrounding stillness, and she involuntarily lifted her gaze, searching for its source.
“You’re a freshman?”
The girl nodded vigorously, her expression animated. “Yes!”
An almost imperceptible coldness flickered across Jiang Shiyuan’s face. “Focus on your studies. I’m not right for you.”
The girl stared intently at the breathtakingly beautiful person before her. Jiang Shiyuan possessed a delicate, palm-sized face with perfectly sculpted features, flawless in every detail.
Her fox-like eyes were particularly striking—deep, luminous, and radiating a sharp, captivating brilliance. Beneath their alluring charm lay an unspoken aggression.
Her aura was equally unique and mesmerizing—a beauty that was both bold and self-assured, exuding a seductive allure tempered by an aloofness that discouraged casual approaches.
Having never experienced rejection before, the girl now felt an unprecedented shock and defeat in the face of this overwhelming beauty. Her eyes began to glisten with tears.
“Why aren’t you right for me? If it’s about gender, girls can be with girls now! How will you know if we’re compatible if you don’t even try?”
On the other side,
The bottle lay quietly in Pei Xiangwan’s palm as she watched Liu Zhixu approach. She couldn’t fathom what the other woman wanted.
“What do you want to say?”
Liu Zhixu smiled innocently, but her words belied her expression.
“Pei Xiangwan, you’re truly disgusting. How could you do this?” Her gaze fell to the bottle in Pei Xiangwan’s hand. “I don’t understand. I’m still me.”
She refused to believe she could lose to Jiang Shiyuan. She thought someone like Pei Xiangwan would never be serious, never truly capable of caring for only one person.
I’ve already let go… Why, then, did it hurt so much to see Pei Xiangwan treating Jiang Shiyuan so well? Why?
Pei Xiangwan cursed herself inwardly, branding herself a heartless player who had toyed with countless girls’ feelings. Poor girls…
“I’m sorry, Liu Zhixu. I’ll make it up to you. Ask for anything—anything within my power.”
Suddenly, a voice as sweet as the osmanthus fragrance from the bottle in Pei Xiangwan’s hand drifted through the air.
“Wanwan, did you know I was waiting for you?”
Pei Xiangwan whirled around. “Jiang Jiang! I’m so sorry! I kept you waiting so long.”
Jiang Shiyuan stepped forward, looped her arm through Pei Xiangwan’s, and smiled sweetly. “It’s okay. Just this once.”
That single smile was enough to stun everyone present. Jiang Shiyuan had never smiled like that before—this was the first time.
Liu Zhixu took a deep breath and said expressionlessly, “Remember your words, Pei Xiangwan.” Unable to bear the scene any longer, she grabbed Zhang Wei and hurried away.
