Chapter 32: (End of Paid Chapter Block)
A play?
Wei Yue was stunned and immediately recalled the plot she had just unlocked with a plot key.
After completing the second Main Mission, she received 2 plot keys. Even though the birthday banquet plot had already deviated onto an unknown track, unlocking the plot was necessary to enhance her understanding of the minor world and the main mission.
The next segment of the plot she unlocked directly followed the birthday banquet.
And, quite coincidentally, this segment was exactly about the School of Finance’s play.
However, the plot had indeed shifted significantly.
In the original novel, after the engagement was announced at the birthday banquet, Lu Yuanqiu was bound to Lan Shangui. The School of Finance did hold a welcome party, and because it hadn’t been held for several years, the scale was relatively large with many participants.
Against this backdrop, some upper-year students also joined the performance team, and Lan Shangui was among them.
The play was the classic Romeo and Juliet. The tragic love story suited the preferences of the young men and women of the time. As the school’s popular figure, the role of Romeo naturally went to Lan Shangui.
As for Juliet… the class vote was initially leaning toward Lu Yuanqiu. However, Wei Yue, as the villainess side character, already had soaring hostility toward Lu Yuanqiu due to the engagement and now wanted to directly prevent Lu Yuanqiu from interacting with Lan Shangui.
So, she went through various schemes, including but not limited to forming factions to isolate Lu Yuanqiu and fabricating rumors, ultimately successfully securing the female lead role.
This result greatly displeased Lan Shangui. He first criticized Wei Yue and then went to Lu Yuanqiu, feigning subtle questioning but actually demanding that she proactively fight for the female lead role to become a “pair” with him.
During their argument, Zhou Jing, the male second lead, appeared. His mature and steady demeanor, typical of an older man, defended Lu Yuanqiu, forming a stark contrast with the impulsive Lan Shangui.
The highlight of this plot section was the description of Zhou Jing, fully showcasing all the qualities a male second lead should possess: calm yet devoted, a successful heir who was young, promising, and had already achieved results within the family business.
After recalling the plot, Wei Yue tentatively asked, “What kind of play is it? Classes start next week; will we have time to perform at the welcome party?”
“It won’t be difficult; it’s a script we wrote ourselves!” Speaking of this, Jiang Yun-juan excitedly adjusted her glasses. “And the welcome party is still nearly 20 days away. The story is quite lighthearted, so don’t worry too much about the lines. There’s even room for improvisation in many parts!”
Both the topic’s introduction and the play’s content were vastly different from the original novel.
It seemed the original plot was highly unlikely to materialize.
Thinking this, Wei Yue felt her mood lighten again. She truly did not want to see Lan Shangui again.
“Course load shouldn’t be too heavy initially, so there is time,” Lu Yuanqiu mused for a moment. Seeing that Wei Yue wasn’t resistant, she agreed.
Wei Yue also nodded. Aside from the fact that she didn’t mind participating in such group activities, Jiang Yun-juan had helped her twice in the past half-month. From a human relations standpoint, she had no reason to refuse.
More importantly, as part of the main storyline, the people and events related to the play would very likely trigger a mission. Although her life value was sufficient for now, accumulating more was always better.
Seeing that both agreed, Jiang Yun-juan was overjoyed and immediately rushed over to hold them: “Yay! Student Lu, Student Wei! Thank you!”
Although she knew Jiang Yun-juan was enthusiastic, Wei Yue had limited interaction with her and felt a slight aversion to physical contact. Even though she controlled her expression, her body stiffened somewhat.
In contrast, Lu Yuanqiu looked composed, even raising her hand to gently pat Jiang Yun-juan’s shoulder, smiling lightly as she said, “Don’t call us so formally. Just call us by our names.”
“Mhm! Okay!” Jiang Yun-juan nodded vigorously. Wei Yue felt that if the other girl had a tail, it would probably be wagging and circling.
Wei Yue looked at the curve on Lu Yuanqiu’s lips and felt a little choked up again, but she had to hold it in due to the current situation.
Right, I was just wondering when Lu Yuanqiu got so familiar with Jiang Yun-juan!
Rationally, Lu Yuanqiu getting closer to anyone and making friends was something she couldn’t control and had no reason to restrict.
But…
Wei Yue furrowed her brow, glancing at the person beside her, only to find Lu Yuanqiu looking back. The clear, light-colored eyes held a hint of curiosity, as if asking why she seemed to be in a bad mood.
Because she was ultimately an “outsider,” facing this unknown world, she always felt suspended, filled with unease and loneliness.
In the garden, Lan Shangui’s strange attitude only intensified her suspicion of this world.
And Lu Yuanqiu… most of the events she encountered since arriving were related to her. Lu Yuanqiu was the most obvious character to have deviated from the original plot and the person she interacted with the most.
It was also because of her that Wei Yue could repeatedly realize that she had come to a real world.
Now, she clearly understood that she had developed a certain sense of dependence on Lu Yuanqiu.
This is truly not a good thing…
Wei Yue looked away, putting on an indifferent demeanor and saying, “Why are you looking at me? Hurry and catch up with Jiang Yun-juan.”
“You looked a little pale just now. What’s wrong?” Lu Yuanqiu took a few steps closer, walking side-by-side with Wei Yue. “If it’s too much trouble, it’s fine to refuse.”
“It’s nothing, probably just sitting in the sun for too long and feeling a bit dizzy.”
Smelling the familiar light fragrance and hearing Lu Yuanqiu’s concerned words, Wei Yue felt a sense of peace wash over her, like a gentle breeze passing through her heart.
Hearing her “explanation,” Lu Yuanqiu raised her hand and removed Wei Yue’s military cap.
The pinned-up long hair immediately fell loose. Mottled tree shadows and faint sunlight fell upon Wei Yue’s fair face.
Amidst the flowing strands of hair and the girl’s slightly surprised expression, even Lu Yuanqiu, who had met all kinds of people, had to compliment Wei Yue’s bright and stunning beauty.
“If you’re hot, you should take off the cap,” she said, still smiling, suggesting to Wei Yue.
She also had to admit that in the past half-month since entering university, Wei Yue had become increasingly pleasing to the eye.
“Well, you should have told me beforehand!”
Wei Yue complained good-naturedly while snatching the military cap from Lu Yuanqiu’s hand.
However, she was also relieved that her hair had come undone; otherwise, her currently warmed and flushed earlobes would have been directly exposed to Lu Yuanqiu’s gaze.
After their brief interaction ended, they looked ahead and saw Jiang Yun-juan staring at them with bright eyes.
Wei Yue felt that if glances could truly become physical rays of light, she and Lu Yuanqiu would have been roasted by Jiang Yun-juan by now.
“Ahem… Yuanqiu, Wei Yue, please come in quickly. I’ve sent you the script to read.”
Seemingly realizing her behavior was slightly offensive, Jiang Yun-juan quickly adjusted her glasses to cover up and redirected the topic back to the play.
Since they had already exchanged contact information, after entering the coffee shop and finding a booth, Wei Yue received the document Jiang Yun-juan forwarded and began to browse.
She initially thought that even an original script would generally follow the paths of classic literature, praising tragic love or the indomitable spirit of the protagonist. However, the more she read, the more she felt something was wrong.
When she reached the last line, which read, “Henceforth, the princess and the eldest miss decided to leave the kingdom and travel the unknown world together,” Wei Yue put down her phone and looked at Jiang Yun-juan in surprise.
Jiang Yun-juan was clearly prepared for her story to be judged: “Yes, this story is about a princess and an eldest miss who go from hostile rivalry to mutually admiring, close friends, finally breaking free from constraints and soaring into the wide sky!”
