At dinner that night, Li Suimei finally met the Qin family. As she walked downstairs, she looked down and didn’t see Qin Qing, which put her in a much better mood. She followed the maid downstairs and approached the dinner table, seeing several figures. She called out, “Aunt Liu, Grandma Qin.”
With a gentle smile, she said softly, “Qin Zhan.”
Qin Zhan nodded in response.
The atmosphere at the dinner table was awkward. Li Suimei chose a seat close to Aunt Liu and ignored the fleeting disappointment in Qin Zhan’s eyes. Li Suimei couldn’t help but sigh inwardly. Qin Zhan liked the original character so much, yet the original character didn’t look up to him. She was quite an unconventional female supporting character.
She never thought that Qin Zhan would love her so much and then end up hurting her after falling in love with the female lead.
Oh well, the original character hadn’t done anything good. She had brought it upon herself.
Li Suimei smiled and called out to Aunt Liu again. She took the serving tongs and served the two elders, being very obedient.
Midway through the meal, Li Suimei stood up to pour soup for Qin Zhan. Under the watchful eyes of Grandma Qin and Liu Ruoxi, she remained calm and composed. Her voice was muffled as she said, “Qin Zhan, I’m sorry.”
Qin Zhan lowered his head, glanced at his phone, then pushed away the soup bowl Li Suimei had handed him. He stood up and said, “Grandma, Mom, Meimei… I have something to do, so I’ll go out for a bit.”
Li Suimei stood up and followed him a few steps, asking, “Where are you going?”
Qin Zhan replied, “…Company business.”
After he left, Li Suimei felt a sense of loss.
Liu Ruoxi and Grandma Qin exchanged glances.
After dinner, Li Suimei didn’t want to stay downstairs and upset Liu Ruoxi and Grandma Qin. She said goodbye and headed upstairs.
Liu Ruoxi called out to her, “Meimei.”
Li Suimei turned around, “Aunt Liu.”
Liu Ruoxi smiled, “Don’t be nervous. Aunt Liu has a good impression of you. Your mother called this afternoon, and she’ll be coming to see you in a couple of days.”
Li Suimei smiled, revealing two shallow dimples.
Liu Ruoxi pinched her cheek, “Qin Qing has already arranged for someone to change your room. I’ll ask them to take you there later.”
Qin Qing had changed her room for her?!
Li Suimei was shocked, her smile stiffening. “No, no need. I’m fine with that room…”
Grandma Qin tapped the table and said, “That’s a servant’s room. What would it look like if you stayed there?”
Li Suimei pursed her lips.
Liu Ruoxi pinched her other cheek red, “The servants were disrespectful. Those two have already been dismissed today. You can stay here with peace of mind.”
“Dismissed?”
Liu Ruoxi waved her hand and said, “Huaiyan did it. Nothing can be hidden from her in this family.”
Li Suimei’s face turned pale.
Nothing… can be hidden from Qin Qing…
That night, Li Suimei couldn’t fall asleep. She lay on her side, staring at the dim light and lost in thought.
Qin Zhan dressed up very handsomely and went downstairs, holding a bouquet of flowers. In the crowded room, he spotted Li Suimei at once and walked over with the flowers. Many people saw him and fell silent, watching Qin Zhan.
The original character was a bit tipsy. Someone pushed her forward, and she crossed her arms, looking at Qin Zhan with a provocative gaze. “What’s up?”
Qin Zhan blushed and said, “Meimei, I like you.”
“Oh.” The original character took the flowers, and there was a loud cheer from the crowd.
“Be together!”
“Be together!”
“Be together!”
Li Suimei’s eyes darkened as if she were a cold observer watching the original character suddenly scoff. Holding the flowers, she turned around and threw them on the ground, right in front of Qin Zhan’s expectant gaze.
Qin Zhan’s face froze.
The room fell silent!
The original character said coldly, “So what if you’re from the Qin family? I, Li Suimei, said I won’t marry, and I won’t!”
On the day of Li Suimei’s birthday, she had invited many people in City A. Even though there had been rumors about the Qin family acquiring companies, Li Suimei, after traveling through time and accepting the original character’s memories, learned that on the eve of her birthday, her father had pressured her to publicly confess her love for Qin Zhan to form an alliance between the Li and Qin families.
The original character’s feelings for Qin Zhan were complicated. It wasn’t as if she had no feelings at all, but she was a spoiled young miss who had been pampered since childhood. This was the first time her father had gone against her wishes and clearly told her that her existence was for the purpose of a marriage alliance.
Naturally, the original character was unwilling.
In the book, the world revolved around the male and female leads, and the supporting characters were not described in detail. If Li Suimei hadn’t traveled through time and simply stood as an outsider, she would naturally have felt more sorry for Qin Zhan.
However, after traveling through time, all the original character’s memories flooded back to her. She realized the hidden truths that the author hadn’t written about, as well as why the original character, who clearly disliked and even hated Qin Zhan, had later entangled herself with him and suppressed the female lead.
These were plot points that were left blank or glossed over in the book, which Li Suimei hadn’t paid close attention to before.
The original character and Qin Zhan parted ways unhappily, and the guests in the hall looked at each other. They couldn’t afford to offend Li Suimei, and they couldn’t afford to offend Qin Zhan either, so they all got up and left.
Soon, everyone was gone.
The loud music was blaring, but without the accompanying noise of the crowd, the original character found it boring. She clapped her hands and turned off the sound system.
“Meimei,” Qin Zhan called out to her.
The original character turned her head.
“You… about me…”
The original character interrupted, “I don’t like you, Qin Zhan. Go away, don’t stay at my house anymore.”
Li Suimei watched as only the three of them were left in the large hall, and Qin Zhan and the original character were unaware of her presence.
Qin Zhan turned and left, and the original character sneered and walked upstairs.
Outside, a violent storm raged, and a loud thunderclap shook the house.
“No!”
Li Suimei woke up with a start, screaming. This was the day the male lead, Qin Zhan, and the female lead, Gu Linxi, met in the pouring rain.
The female lead had given Qin Zhan an umbrella, and Li Suimei had become an outsider.
“She’ll die!”
Li Suimei thought, and suddenly, the world spun around her as she felt a pull. In an instant, she found herself on the stairs. Without hesitation, Li Suimei turned and ran down the stairs after him!
“Qin Zhan!”
She found Qin Zhan standing alone in the pouring rain.
Suddenly, an umbrella appeared in her hand. She held it up and put it over Qin Zhan’s head.
Qin Zhan looked up at her in astonishment.
Li Suimei smiled, then coughed. A sweet, coppery taste filled her throat. She wiped her mouth.
It was blood.
Behind her, a girl carrying an umbrella passed by, ignoring the two of them as she walked past.
Qin Zhan exclaimed, “Meimei! You’re coughing up blood!”
Suddenly, she woke up from the nightmare with a start.
Li Suimei propped herself up from the bed and wiped her mouth. It was blood.
She was in the Li family, in the original character’s bedroom.
There was still a bandage on her forehead. Ji Wenjing came in with medicine, muttering to herself.
She said that Li Suimei had been drunk and had argued with Qin Zhan again, falling down the stairs and bumping her head. What if she was left with a scar…
Li Suimei was astonished. Had she actually traveled into the book?
She had thought about changing the plot for several days. Until a few days ago, Li’s father had asked her to move into the Qin family. This was part of the original plot. She was hesitant about the dream and firmly refused, and immediately, a bloody taste filled her throat.
Li Suimei realized then that the dream that day was the book’s way of warning her.
As a major antagonist in the book, the original character had to move into the Qin family to interact with the female lead. She was a stepping stone in the romantic relationship between the male and female leads. She would go offline on the night of the wedding, so she had to push the plotline to that day.
If she didn’t follow the plotline, she would cough up blood and die. If she followed the plotline, she would eventually be killed by Qin Qing, the male lead’s overprotective sister.
And now, that culprit was living next door to her.
Li Suimei closed her eyes wearily.
Li Suimei stayed uncomfortably in the Qin family for a few days. When the news got out, her friends from Haishi were about to come and visit her.
Li Suimei held her phone, still a bit unaccustomed to the role of a spoiled young miss. After rejecting them one by one, she heard Liu Ruoxi say that Ms. Fu was having a birthday and had sent out invitations, inviting a bunch of people to Xishan for a golf gathering. Liu Ruoxi was going to take her with her.
That night, Li Suimei called her mother and told her about it.
Ji Wenjing was cooking. After taking the call, she washed her hands and directed the servants to clean up the mess that had been scattered all over the place. She said, “Don’t overthink it. It’s not entirely for your sake. Your reputation is bad, and it would be a loss of face for both our family and the Qin family. Besides, ladies from families like ours have gatherings like this from time to time. Just go and have fun. I’ll be going too.”
“By the way, how has Qin Zhan been treating you lately?”
Li Suimei touched her nose and said, “Qin Zhan has gone to work at Qin Qing’s company.”
“What about Qin Qing?” Ji Wenjing asked her.
Li Suimei was silent. Qin Qing probably hated her guts.
Seeing that she wasn’t saying anything, Ji Wenjing didn’t ask any more questions. She simply said, “Have you prepared the clothes you’re going to wear to the gathering?”
Li Suimei shook her head. She thought a set of sportswear would be enough for a golf game.
Ji Wenjing couldn’t sit still. Looking at Li Suimei through the video, she asked, “Baby, that’s not like you!”
Li Suimei frowned. The original character was a flamboyant young miss who loved to show off and loved to be beautiful. She was never one to miss a chance to outshine others, which was indeed quite different from her own personality.
“I’ll have people send all the new season’s dresses to the Qin residence tomorrow.”
Li Suimei smiled. “Okay.”
That night, Qin Qing returned to the large villa of the Qin family and went to her study. When she entered, she saw a maid carrying a bunch of neatly ironed clothes upstairs.
The room was right next to hers. Qin Qing remembered that she had had this room cleaned up for Li Suimei.
She glanced sideways, loosened the tie and buttons at her neck, revealing her delicate collarbone and fair neck. She pushed open one side of the study door.
After a while.
The butler knocked on the door and said, “Miss.”
Qin Qing pulled open a drawer and took out a cigarette.
She lit it, and the study was dark except for the light from the corridor coming through the open door and a dim candle on the desk that was only enough to illuminate a corner.
Most of her body was shrouded in darkness.
Outside the door, she heard Li Suimei’s soft voice, “Be gentle, be quiet, don’t disturb…”
The sound stopped, and she must have entered the room.
The butler didn’t speak and stood at the door, looking hesitant.
The smoke flickered, half-obscuring Qin Qing’s sharp and fierce features.
She moved her lips and her voice was as cold as ice, “What is it?”
The butler walked in and said, “Miss Li and Madam made some pastries today and asked me to bring them to you.”
Qin Qing’s red lips parted slightly, and she spat out the moist cigarette butt. “Take them to Qin Zhan.”
The butler coughed lightly and said, “…Miss Li instructed that they must be given to the Young Miss of the Qin family.”
Smoke curled around her as she exhaled slowly. She raised her hand and crushed the cigarette. “Put it down.”
“Yes.”
The butler withdrew.
Qin Qing frowned. Why would Li Suimei send her pastries?
