Chapter 13: Awakening Spiritual Power
“Huh? What’s going on?” Ye Lingxi felt something too and ran to a hidden spot.
Ji Fuyu appeared, looking around. “Where is this place?” She was curious as she saw the dense, shadowy forest.
Ye Lingxi wasn’t sure how to explain. “Uh… this is the Hundred Herb Sect.”
“Hundred Herb Sect?”
“Yes.”
Ji Fuyu took a few steps forward. Feeling a surge of energy enter her body, she opened her hand and clenched it. “This place is excellent. Perfect for my cultivation.”
“Is that so? As long as you’re happy, Master,” Ye Lingxi replied, not really caring what she looked like.
Ji Fuyu turned and saw Ye Lingxi’s swollen, pig-like face. “You!” She couldn’t believe her eyes. “What happened to your face?”
Ye Lingxi touched her swollen cheek. “I got hit… by accident.”
Ji Fuyu: “…”
“By accident?” Ji Fuyu raised an eyebrow, clearly not buying it. “Someone dared to lay a hand on my person? I’ll tear them to pieces!”
Ye Lingxi thought to herself: Boss, you’re the best.
“…They hit my face!!”
Ye Lingxi: “…”
I take it back. She’s still a demon queen.
Ignoring her, Ye Lingxi continued applying bruise balm.
Ji Fuyu stepped closer. “What are you doing?”
Ye Lingxi held out the balm. “It’s for swelling and bruises. Want some?”
Ji Fuyu rolled her eyes. “I don’t need that stuff.”
“Oh.”
“What kind of attitude is that?!” Ji Fuyu snapped.
Ye Lingxi pouted. “Look at me—how can I show any attitude like this?”
“Hmph!” Ji Fuyu didn’t press further. “As long as you know.”
She walked under a tree. Ye Lingxi asked, “Master, what are you doing?”
Ji Fuyu placed her hand on a branch. “This place is perfect for restoring my spiritual power. I’m going to cultivate here.”
“But if you stay here alone, someone might find you.”
Ji Fuyu pointed at the tassel on Ye Lingxi’s sword. “Only those who touch my phoenix feather can see me.”
Ye Lingxi: “…”
She looked at her sword. How come I didn’t know that? Every time someone came near, she disappeared. Was she doing it on purpose?
“Oh… okay.” Ye Lingxi asked, “Then Master, when will you teach me how to awaken my spiritual power?”
Ji Fuyu frowned. “Right now?”
Ye Lingxi nodded. “Yes.”
Without any spiritual power, she’d be doomed if exposed.
“Did you forget, Master? Or are you unwilling?” she asked carefully.
Ji Fuyu thought for a moment. Her magic was still unstable, but teaching now wasn’t impossible. “Fine. I’m not someone who breaks promises.”
Ye Lingxi beamed. “Great!” She excitedly hugged Ji Fuyu’s childlike form and spun her around. “Mwah!” She kissed her cheek.
“You! How dare you! You lowly servant, how dare you be so bold!” Ji Fuyu struggled. “Let go of me!”
Ye Lingxi realized she went too far and quickly let go. “Sorry! I didn’t mean to. I was just too excited. And Master, you’re so cute—I couldn’t help it.”
Ji Fuyu was fuming. “You—!” If she had more magic right now, she would’ve smacked her.
“Then… can you teach me now?” Ye Lingxi’s face was healing, and her eager smile was returning.
Ji Fuyu saw her glowing slightly—probably a sign of happiness. She cleared her throat. “I’ll let it slide this time. I’m not petty like you humans.”
I need to make her fully mine first, give her a sense of security. Otherwise, how will I get my Longyuan Sword back?
“Let’s begin,” Ji Fuyu said.
Ye Lingxi was ready.
Ji Fuyu began her lesson. “First, calm your heart. Feel your spiritual power. Let it flow naturally.”
Ye Lingxi followed her instructions, closing her eyes and focusing inward. Even if I’m just a side character, I should have at least a little spiritual power, right?
As she connected with her inner self, she found herself in a place identical to where she’d once suffocated and nearly died. She thought it was the system’s space. Speaking of which—why had the system been so quiet lately?
She called out, “System? System? Where are you? Don’t hide. You’re unreliable, but I still need you.”
No matter how she called, the space remained pitch black—until she turned and saw a faint golden thread floating in the air.
As she reached for it, the thread merged with her. Her body began to glow golden. Is this… my spiritual power?
So warm.
As she sat cross-legged and let the power flow, a voice echoed in her mind: “You must stop her!”
She opened her eyes to see Ji Fuyu’s little face poking at her. “Still warm?” Seeing her awake, she pulled her finger back. “I thought you failed and died.”
Ye Lingxi: “…”
She clenched her fingers, remembering the voice. “Stop her? Who is ‘her’?”
“How do you feel?” Ji Fuyu asked, interrupting her thoughts.
Ye Lingxi replied, “Warm.”
Ji Fuyu rubbed her chin. “Warm?” That wasn’t what she expected.
Usually, awakening spiritual power was uncomfortable. Why was hers warm?
Oh well—as long as it worked.
“Try using your spiritual power.”
Ye Lingxi looked at her hand. “How?”
“Just wave it.”
Ye Lingxi tilted her head, confused, but followed instructions. She waved upward—and accidentally launched a spiritual attack straight at Ji Fuyu.
Luckily, Ji Fuyu dodged. The blast hit a tree behind her, setting it on fire.
“What are you doing?! I said try it—not attack me!” Ji Fuyu shouted.
Ye Lingxi waved her hands. “I don’t know! I aimed at the sky—I don’t know why it hit you!”
Ji Fuyu looked at her puzzled expression. She probably didn’t mean it. “You’re just not used to it yet.”
Ye Lingxi quickly agreed. “Yes, yes, exactly.”
“Fine. Since you’ve awakened, go practice. Once you’re used to it, come back and I’ll teach you more.”
“Okay.” Ye Lingxi nodded.
Ji Fuyu sat cross-legged under the tree, red magic swirling around her.
Ye Lingxi quietly left, afraid that if she disturbed her, she’d be killed.
