Chapter 14: Why Don’t You Dare Look at This King When You Answer!
The loud noise just now startled Lan Muxu, who was sipping tea in the hall. She spilled her tea and slammed the cup down on the table. “What’s going on?!”
A disciple reported, “The sound came from the forest.”
Lan Muxu immediately sensed something was wrong. Lan Muxu ordered, “Hurry, come with me!”
“Yes!”
Lan Muxu led her disciples and soon bumped into a sneaky-looking Ye Lingxi.
Ye Lingxi turned around and accidentally crashed into Lan Muxu’s arms. Rubbing her head and realizing who it was, she quickly bowed. “Greetings, Shishu.”
“What are you doing here?” Lan Muxu asked.
She replied, “Shishu told me to get lost earlier, and I thought the scenery here at the Hundred Herb Sect was beautiful, so I decided to take a walk and enjoy it.”
“That sound just now—was it related to you?”
The sound? Oh… that was her.
She explained, “Oh, that sound? That was me.” She scratched the back of her head awkwardly.
“You?” Lan Muxu couldn’t believe it. The spiritual power in that blast clearly exceeded the Foundation Establishment level. How could a mere trial disciple have such strong power?
“Are you really just a disciple undergoing assessment?”
Ye Lingxi nodded. “Yes, Shishu. Why do you ask?”
“I heard that during the spiritual power test, someone’s power exceeded the spirit stone’s limit. Was that you?”
“Uh…”
Ye Lingxi didn’t want to admit it—after all, that power wasn’t really hers.
“Well…”
Lan Muxu smiled. “That’s a good thing. You have a great spiritual root—why hide it?”
Ye Lingxi just smiled silently. It’s not mine anyway…
“No wonder Senior Sister Mo made an exception and tended to you personally. She never does that for anyone except Bai Luotang. I thought she changed, but now I see—it’s your spiritual strength.”
Ye Lingxi: Strong? Don’t tell me you’re planning to drain my power to save Bai Luotang. Or rather, Ji Fuyu’s demonic power…
“Didn’t tell me because you wanted to stay low-key?” Lan Muxu smiled, holding her hand.
Ye Lingxi felt weird. Why the sudden change in attitude? She was fierce just now, and now she’s acting like she’s trying to cozy up to me.
Though she wasn’t exactly someone worth cozying up to.
Ye Lingxi shook her head. “No.”
She couldn’t possibly admit she had just awakened her spiritual power moments ago.
Lan Muxu frowned. “No?”
Ye Lingxi said, “I was just admiring the scenery when a bug startled me, and I accidentally triggered my spiritual power. Please don’t blame me, Shishu.” She quickly apologized—better to admit fault than be questioned further.
She kept glancing behind her, hoping the demon queen was still quietly cultivating.
She really wanted to cling to that powerful thigh for protection.
Seeing Lan Muxu didn’t respond, Ye Lingxi thought she’d said something wrong and was about to explain more when Lan Muxu helped her up. “Shishu wouldn’t punish a disciple over such a small accident, right?”
Ye Lingxi: Are you sure? You people kill cannon fodder over the tiniest things.
“Thank you, Shishu, for your mercy and kindness.” No matter what, she had to play it safe.
Lan Muxu pulled her closer. “Come, Xiaoxi, keep Shishu company.”
Xiaoxi? Ye Lingxi froze. No one had ever called her that before.
After taking Ye Lingxi away, Lan Muxu made a hand gesture to her disciples. They understood and went to inspect the area Ye Lingxi had damaged.
They found nothing unusual—everything looked normal.
Back in the hall, Lan Muxu poured tea for Ye Lingxi. Seeing this, Ye Lingxi nearly lost her soul from panic.
“Let me do it, Shishu.” She quickly grabbed the teapot. Luckily, her sleeves were shorter and she was faster.
Lan Muxu saw her eagerness and nodded. “Xiaoxi, you’re quite good. Have you ever thought about becoming my disciple?”
Ye Lingxi smiled. “Shishu flatters me.”
Lan Muxu said, “Why? I remember you well. Don’t you like it here?”
Of course she liked it. With so many rare herbs and pills, how could she not?
“I do.”
Lan Muxu saw an opportunity. “You do? Then…”
Ye Lingxi replied tactfully, “Shishu, I’m about to take the advanced assessment.”
Lan Muxu thought for a moment. “If you don’t pass, would you consider joining me?”
That was exactly what Ye Lingxi wanted to hear. If she failed, she’d still have a place to stay—perfect.
She gently set down her teacup. “Shishu’s kindness is something I truly can’t refuse.”
Lan Muxu nodded in satisfaction and took a sip of tea. I must keep her here. The matter of the Hundred Spirit Grass must be related to my senior brother.
“Don’t forget—you promised to tell me where that old man is.”
Of course.
“Don’t worry, Shishu. After my assessment, I’ll definitely tell you.” She had no idea who that old man was—he didn’t exist. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t keep making things up.
After finishing her tea, Ye Lingxi went to find the demon queen. She’d be staying here until the assessment, which gave Ji Fuyu time to cultivate and her time to learn.
As she was secretly smiling, the demon queen spoke. “What are you smiling about?”
“Ah, nothing.” Ye Lingxi quickly replied. Seeing Ji Fuyu still in child form, she asked, “Is this place not good?”
Ji Fuyu said, “It’s not that. I was in the middle of cultivating when someone interrupted me.”
“Someone came?” Ye Lingxi asked.
Ji Fuyu nodded. “Yes, right after you left.”
Ye Lingxi was confused. “But I didn’t see anyone come in?” She was sure she’d kept them out.
Then how did they disturb her?
“Are you okay?” Ye Lingxi asked.
Ji Fuyu looked at her palm. Though those people only walked around briefly, their presence made it hard for her to focus.
“I’m fine,” she said, pulling her hand back. “What about you? How’s your practice?”
Ye Lingxi smiled. “Me? I think I’ve got it.” Like I’d tell her I didn’t practice at all and was off drinking tea and cozying up to someone else.
Ji Fuyu stared into her eyes. “Why don’t you dare look at this king when you answer!”
Ye Lingxi: What, I can’t even look away now? What a weirdo.
