After Transmigrating into a Book as a Cannon Fodder Character, The System Turned out to be Completely Unreliable! - Chapter 15
Chapter 15: Backlash
“I’d never dare avoid my master’s gaze,” Ye Lingxi said sweetly, switching into her charm mode.
Ji Fuyu narrowed her eyes and pointed at the corner of Ye Lingxi’s mouth. “You’ve still got crumbs from the pastry you ate.”
Ye Lingxi panicked and quickly wiped her mouth. That was the peach blossom pastry Lan Muxu had given her earlier—how did Ji Fuyu even notice?
How sharp are her eyes? And it’s nighttime!
“I can see even better in the dark than I can in daylight,” Ji Fuyu declared proudly.
Wow, are you a night owl or something?
“You’re amazing, Master.” That compliment came straight from Ye Lingxi’s heart.
Right after, Ji Fuyu’s stomach growled loudly, making things a little awkward.
Ye Lingxi took out the peach blossom pastries she had packed earlier. “If Master doesn’t mind, would you like some?” She unwrapped the pastries from her handkerchief and held them out.
Ji Fuyu stared at the soft pink pastries, then looked away and said stubbornly, “I don’t need your pity.”
Ye Lingxi was speechless. Seriously?
She shoved a pastry into Ji Fuyu’s mouth. “Alright, stop being so stubborn. You’re in a child’s body now—why not enjoy life like a child?”
With the pastry between her lips, Ji Fuyu saw Ye Lingxi’s expectant expression, glanced at the warm flaky cake, and took a bite—still acting stubborn but obviously enjoying it.
Ye Lingxi couldn’t help but laugh.
“Silence! Don’t laugh at this king!” Ji Fuyu shouted.
Ye Lingxi clutched her stomach, laughing. “Can’t I even laugh a little?”
“No!” Ji Fuyu insisted, still being difficult.
Ye Lingxi handed her the other two pastries. “Then enjoy these, Master.”
Ji Fuyu accepted them and asked, “Where are you going?”
“To practice my spiritual power!” Ye Lingxi waved. “I won’t let you down.”
As Ji Fuyu tapped the pastries, she felt a small warmth in her heart. She took another bite. “So sweet.”
Ye Lingxi found a wide, open area—perfect for training without damaging any of Lan Muxu’s precious plants. She was very satisfied.
“This spot is perfect.” She sat cross-legged and began focusing on her spiritual energy, entering that dark inner space again.
When she opened her eyes in that space, she noticed something new near the small patch of light. As she walked closer, she saw a humanoid figure. She couldn’t tell who or what it was.
“Hey? Are you a person? Or some kind of demon?” she called out.
The figure didn’t respond—just floated silently.
What is that thing?
When she tried to touch it, a force threw her out. Her real body jolted awake.
Clutching her chest and gasping for air, she pounded the ground. “If you don’t want to be touched, fine! But why throw me out?!”
She was furious.
Ji Fuyu, lounging in a tree nearby, casually munched on a pastry. “Didn’t expect you to come out so soon.”
Ye Lingxi was indignant. “I don’t believe this! I’m going back in!”
She tried again, but the same thing happened—she was thrown out the moment she touched the figure. “Ugh! Why is it like this?!”
Ji Fuyu watched her frustration, jumped down, and finished her last bite. “Your heart isn’t calm. You’re too impatient.” She placed a hand on Ye Lingxi’s head. “I’ll inject some of my magic into you to help.”
Ye Lingxi obediently closed her eyes. Ji Fuyu activated her power—red and black energy flowed from her hand into Ye Lingxi’s consciousness.
This time, Ji Fuyu entered Ye Lingxi’s spiritual space with her. It was pitch black, except for a glowing figure ahead.
She frowned. “Why is there a humanoid shape in her spiritual realm?”
As they approached together, they were both thrown out.
Ye Lingxi nearly collapsed from the force. Ji Fuyu stepped back, withdrawing her hand.
She shook her hand, which was now glowing golden, and stared at Ye Lingxi, puzzled. Why did that power feel so familiar?
She frowned and bit her lip.
Ye Lingxi noticed and asked, “Master, are you okay?”
Ji Fuyu smiled and quickly hid her hand. If she finds out I was hurt by her spiritual power, where would I put my pride?
But Ye Lingxi noticed. “Why is your hand glowing gold?”
Ji Fuyu closed her eyes—but it was too late.
“I was too focused and lost control of my magic,” she lied, opening her eyes.
Ye Lingxi: Can you stop pretending already?
This isn’t the time for showing off.
Fine, if you say you’re fine, then you’re fine. It’s not like I’m the one in pain.
Ye Lingxi started thinking: Even the demon queen couldn’t handle that thing—what could it be?
Then she remembered the golden light. She touched her forehead.
After thinking for a while, she still couldn’t figure it out. Did I accidentally get some hidden divine item?
“System! System!” Ye Lingxi called out, but no matter how she shouted, there was no response.
What’s going on? Why is the system silent? Ever since she arrived at the Hundred Herb Sect, it had gone quiet. Ugh, still unreliable. I guess I have to rely on myself.
Ji Fuyu watched Ye Lingxi scratching her head in frustration and also wondered: Why couldn’t I enter? And why did that power feel so familiar?
She looked down at her hand. The pain was gone, and the golden glow had faded.
No more pain?
Her spiritual sense is already this strong—if she keeps cultivating, her power will be incredible. She might even become a god!
Ji Fuyu smirked darkly. If I can use her power for myself, then ruling the three realms will be within reach.
“Ye Lingxi, I order you to cultivate properly.”
Ye Lingxi: “…”
Huh? What’s wrong with this woman?
I already know I need to train. How else am I supposed to survive?
“Thank you for the reminder, Master,” she said, rolling her eyes behind her smile.
“Good. As long as you understand, I’ll guide you step by step,” Ji Fuyu said.
Ye Lingxi: Easy for you to say. Didn’t you get thrown out too? Clearly your magic isn’t fully recovered yet. But I should be able to use some spiritual power now—should be enough for the upcoming test.
She started doing some strange movements, all of which Ji Fuyu noticed.
“I’m talking to you!” Ji Fuyu stepped closer.
Ye Lingxi smiled. “Master, do you need something else?”
Ji Fuyu: “…”
