Chapter 16: This King Will Guide You
Ji Fuyu’s red eyes narrowed slightly. “This king will personally guide you.”
Ye Lingxi gave an awkward smile. “Didn’t Master already say that just now?”
Ji Fuyu snapped, “So you remember what I said? Then why didn’t you answer me when I asked before?” She pressed her closer, not letting it go.
Ye Lingxi looked away. “Uh… I… I was just thinking if Master’s hand still hurt.”
At that, Ji Fuyu’s expression softened. “Really?”
Ye Lingxi nodded. “Of course.” She pretended to be heartbroken and gently took her hand—the one that had been injured by backlash. “It’s my fault you got hurt, Master. I’m so sorry.” She sniffled and trembled.
Ji Fuyu was slightly moved and pulled her hand back. “A minor injury like that is nothing to this king.”
Ye Lingxi: Hey, can you at least let me finish acting before brushing it off?
Oh well, at least she managed to calm her down.
Ji Fuyu’s ears turned bright red. “You focus on your training. I’m going elsewhere to cultivate.”
Ye Lingxi was dumbfounded, arms spread, mouth agape. “Why?” she muttered. “Weren’t you just saying you’d help me and guide me? Now you’re running off to train by yourself? You’re just leaving me here?” she grumbled.
Ji Fuyu didn’t even know why her ears were burning. She sat cross-legged to meditate, but her mind kept replaying Ye Lingxi’s pitiful expression.
She couldn’t even see her face clearly—so why did she feel like she looked so sad and fragile?
Ye Lingxi didn’t care what Ji Fuyu was thinking. She tried to meditate again, but no matter how she focused, the result was the same. What’s going wrong?
And now the system was gone too. She was furious. That system is so unreliable—and now it’s just disappeared? What’s that supposed to mean?
She gave up on training for now and just sat across from Ji Fuyu, watching her meditate. The dark red demonic energy swirling around her looked terrifying.
Looking closely, Ji Fuyu’s child form was actually quite cute and well-proportioned. Why did she grow up to look like someone who owes everyone money? And her mouth is so mean.
Still, compared to the cold and ruthless Mo Huaishu, Ji Fuyu seemed easier to deal with. Ye Lingxi nodded to herself, agreeing with her own thoughts.
She ended up waiting the whole night. She dozed off while sitting cross-legged, and when morning came, the demon queen was still meditating.
Ye Lingxi decided to get up and grab some food. But her legs were numb from sitting all night—she couldn’t even stand. She had to use her hands to support herself and rest a bit.
Her gaze drifted to Ji Fuyu, still meditating. If she’s been sitting like that all night, won’t she be just as stiff as me when she gets up?
The thought made her chuckle. That awkward moment would be hilarious.
After resting, Ye Lingxi stood up and stretched. “What a nice day. Let’s see what Shishu Lan is having for breakfast.” She turned back and whispered, “Master, I’m heading out now.” Her mouth moved, but she didn’t actually make a sound.
Whether she heard or not—that was Ji Fuyu’s problem.
Ye Lingxi bolted off and ran straight to Lan Muxu’s hall. She peeked around the doorframe to see if anyone was inside.
Lan Muxu, who had just woken up, said, “Come in.”
Ye Lingxi was surprised she noticed her. Well, she is powerful—how else could she be a sect leader? She grinned. “Good morning, Shishu Lan.”
Lan Muxu lifted her eyelids. “You didn’t return to your room last night, did you?”
“Huh? How did you know?” Ye Lingxi feigned innocence.
Lan Muxu smiled. “My disciples told me. They saw you cultivating in the forest during their patrol.”
Ye Lingxi blinked innocently. “Sorry, Shishu. I used your place to train again.”
Lan Muxu, still in her nightgown, got out of bed while her disciples helped her freshen up. “I know you’re preparing for the advanced assessment.”
Ye Lingxi scratched her head. “Didn’t expect my little plan to be seen through so easily.” Though in truth, Lan Muxu only guessed half right—besides the exam, she was also training to stay alive.
Lan Muxu chuckled. “So, you came here to eat with me?”
Ye Lingxi rubbed her belly and smiled without answering. Busted again… now I’m a little embarrassed.
Lan Muxu made a hand gesture. “Bring it in.”
With just one command, her disciples brought out a table full of food. Ye Lingxi’s eyes sparkled. So much delicious food! She swallowed her drool and waited for permission.
“Sit down.”
As soon as she heard that, Ye Lingxi sat without hesitation—but didn’t touch her chopsticks. “Shishu, when do we start eating?”
Lan Muxu replied, “Right now.”
Ye Lingxi sat obediently, waiting. After all, this was Lan Muxu’s territory—she had to follow the rules if she wanted to survive.
Once Lan Muxu finished washing up and sat down to eat, Ye Lingxi finally picked up her chopsticks. “Thank you, Shishu Lan.”
“What are you thanking me for?” Lan Muxu asked.
“For letting me eat with you,” Ye Lingxi replied.
Lan Muxu moved her chopsticks. “So tell me—which is better: here or Qingyang Sect?”
Ye Lingxi froze. Oh no—this is a trap question!
She swallowed her food. “Each has its own strengths.”
“Oh? Let’s hear it.”
Ye Lingxi wanted to cry. Why is she doing this to me again?!
“I…” She quickly thought of something. “Hundred Herb Sect is great for peaceful cultivation. Qingyang Sect is better for boosting spiritual power.”
Lan Muxu raised an eyebrow. “Is that so?”
“Yes!”
Honestly, Hundred Herb Sect really was a great place to train quietly—even the demon queen approved.
“Very well.” Lan Muxu’s eyes stayed fixed on her face.
Ye Lingxi felt the pressure and bit her lip. “Why are you looking at me like that, Shishu?”
Lan Muxu set down her bowl and chopsticks. “Is your face okay now?”
The sudden concern made Ye Lingxi nervous. “The bruise balm you gave me worked really well. It’s much better now.”
“Good.” Lan Muxu resumed eating.
Ye Lingxi touched her cheek. It really wasn’t swollen anymore. If she hadn’t used the balm, her face would still be so puffy her own mother wouldn’t recognize her.
All Mo Huaishu’s fault for hitting so hard. Now everyone avoids me. Life is tough… all for survival.
Ye Lingxi ate while silently crying.
Lan Muxu: “…”
“By the way, your sword doesn’t look very good,” Lan Muxu said, glancing at the weapon beside her.
It was indeed worn and shabby.
Ye Lingxi didn’t expect her to notice. “I picked it up,” she said.
Lan Muxu frowned. “Every weapon has its own spirit. Let me take a look?”
Ye Lingxi didn’t say anything and handed it over. It’s just a broken sword—what’s there to see?
Lan Muxu drew the sword and found it heavy and completely devoid of spiritual energy. She sheathed it. “This sword really has no spiritual power.”
Told you so.
“But…”
Ye Lingxi perked up. A twist?
“But what?”
Lan Muxu smiled at her eager face. “I can help you.”
“Really?” Ye Lingxi was overjoyed. She didn’t expect Lan Muxu to offer help.
Lan Muxu handed the sword back. “But I have a condition.”
Ye Lingxi’s face fell instantly. I knew it wouldn’t be that easy.
“What condition, Shishu?”
Lan Muxu said, “Tell me exactly where you met that old man you mentioned.”
Ye Lingxi: “???????????????????”
