Chapter 26: “You Belong to Me—You Must Obey Me!”
Ye Lingxi winced as pain shot through her waist. “Master, please let me explain first.”
D#mn it, does this woman not know her own strength? Didn’t she see she just slammed me into the edge of the table?
Ji Fuyu, seeing her attitude, only grew more forceful. “Do you know how long I’ve been waiting for you?!”
“Huh?” Ye Lingxi blinked in confusion. “What?”
Did she just say she’s been waiting for me? Why?
Ji Fuyu’s anger flared. “Ye Lingxi, you belong to me. You must obey my commands!”
Ye Lingxi: What the hell is she talking about?
“Can we just pause for a second?” Ye Lingxi was fed up with the awkward position. “Can we sit down and talk like normal people?”
Has the demon queen lost her mind? What is she even saying? I belong to her? I’m a free person, thank you very much.
Seeing her in pain, Ji Fuyu’s furrowed brow finally relaxed, and she let go of Ye Lingxi’s wrist.
“I’ll give you one chance.”
Ye Lingxi: Geez, she really doesn’t know her own strength.
Just then, the spirit cat system, still trapped in a bubble, bounced around trying to escape. Ji Fuyu dodged it, and it smacked right into Ye Lingxi’s face before falling to the floor.
“System, you jerk!” Ye Lingxi shouted, her nose throbbing.
Annoyed, Ji Fuyu picked up the dazed spirit cat and tossed it aside. The bubble popped.
Spirit Cat:”_Oww…”
“Speak,” Ji Fuyu ordered, her aura oppressive.
Ye Lingxi, still clutching her nose, said, “Wait, my nose…”
Ji Fuyu stood there silently until Ye Lingxi recovered. She crossed her arms and stared.
Ye Lingxi hopped off the table, blindfolded, unable to locate Ji Fuyu. “I didn’t expect all this to happen. Can you please give me another chance?”
Ji Fuyu tilted her head, watching Ye Lingxi talk to empty air. She pulled her straight. “I’m over here.”
“Oh, sorry.” Ye Lingxi quickly apologized, scratching the back of her head nervously.
Ji Fuyu: “…”
Ye Lingxi didn’t hear a response, so she took a deep breath. “I’m telling the truth. If you don’t believe me, I’ll help you find your sword right now.”
“Mm.” Ji Fuyu grunted.
Ye Lingxi: Seriously? Just “mm”? Say something! I’m blind and you still want me to go sword-hunting?
She bit her lip and turned her head slightly.
Ji Fuyu reached out and turned her face back. “I’m over here.”
Ye Lingxi: I know! Can’t I even move my head?
“I…” She gave up. No matter what she said, Ji Fuyu wouldn’t be satisfied. So she stayed quiet.
Ji Fuyu raised an eyebrow, her expression serious. “Rest.”
Ye Lingxi blinked. Did I hear that right? She told me to rest? Has the demon queen grown a conscience?
“I thought you wanted to find your sword?” she asked cautiously, not quite believing Ji Fuyu was being this reasonable.
Ji Fuyu looked down at her. “Can your eyes help me find it right now?”
“Uh…” Ye Lingxi paused. Wait, is she actually being considerate?
“Let’s wait until your eyes recover,” Ji Fuyu said. Ye Lingxi reached out and grabbed her sleeve. “Don’t worry. Once I’m better, I’ll help you find it. I won’t let you down!”
Ji Fuyu’s eyes flickered, then she turned away. “Get better first. Then we’ll talk.”
She walked off, and Ye Lingxi’s hand slipped from her sleeve, left holding nothing.
Is this really the same demon queen?
Ji Fuyu returned to her perch in the tree, staring at the stars. Her gaze tightened. Why do I keep softening whenever I see her? Is this some kind of illness?
She thought back to her past. The first person she saw after hatching was Mingyue—a gentle, patient woman who guided her. Until she learned it was all a lie. Since then, she’d trusted no one.
She closed her eyes, pushing the memories away.
When she tried to retrieve the Longyuan Sword, it had tried to devour her. That woman must’ve set a barrier specifically against demons. Maybe a cultivator could touch it instead.
Her gaze drifted back toward Ye Lingxi’s room. _She’s just a subordinate. I can’t let one person throw off my focus. I won’t. No one will._
Meanwhile, Ye Lingxi fumbled her way back to bed and searched for the system that Ji Fuyu had tossed aside.
“System? System?” she whispered.
Still dazed, the spirit cat weakly replied: “I’m here…”
Ye Lingxi grabbed its leg. “You little rascal! Where did you run off to when I needed you?!”
Spirit Cat: “I… I was locked up by the demon queen.”
“What? Why would she lock up a sword spirit for no reason?” Ye Lingxi was baffled.
The spirit cat shook its head, trying to clear the dizziness. “She said if you didn’t wake up, she’d eat me.”
Ye Lingxi gasped. “Eat you?! Why?! What did you do?!”
Spirit Cat: “Nothing!”
“Then why would she say that?” Ye Lingxi muttered. She’s been acting weird lately—almost… nice.
Spirit Cat: “She said I was useless because you didn’t wake up.”
Ye Lingxi: “…”
“That’s it?” she asked, arms spread.
Spirit Cat: “Yeah.”
Ye Lingxi: “…”
She rubbed her chin. “That doesn’t make sense.”
Spirit Cat: “Right? I’m just a sword spirit. What could I possibly do?”
“How could she say that to you?”
Spirit Cat: At least you’re nice to me.”
“You’re not just trash—you’re a whole new level of useless.”
Spirit Cat: “…”
Spirit Cat: “Host!”
Ye Lingxi waved it off. “Relax, I was joking.”
Spirit Cat: “You’re so mean…”
Ye Lingxi flopped onto the bed. “I’m just being honest. If you were reliable, would I be like this?!” She pointed at her eyes.
Spirit Cat: “…”
Spirit Cat: “You’re all bullying me. I’m not talking to you anymore.” It flew back into the broken sword and refused to come out.
“Fine, be that way.” Ye Lingxi didn’t care. She pulled up her blanket. “Ugh, I’m going to sleep.”
Spirit Cat: “You’re not going to check on her?”
“She doesn’t want to come in. What can I do?” Ye Lingxi turned over. “Didn’t you say you weren’t talking to us?”
Spirit Cat: “Hmph.”
Ye Lingxi smirked. “Little rascal.”
Late at night, patrolling disciples passed by Ji Fuyu’s tree, disturbing her sleep.
Annoyed, she returned to Ye Lingxi’s room.
Seeing her sound asleep, Ji Fuyu yanked off her blanket. “Ahh!” Ye Lingxi yelped.
“Too noisy outside,” Ji Fuyu muttered, then lay down beside her.
Ye Lingxi: “…”
She didn’t mind. Whether Ji Fuyu stayed or not didn’t matter. She rolled over. “Okay,” she mumbled, still half-asleep.
Ji Fuyu opened her eyes and turned. Ye Lingxi’s sleeping face was right in front of her. For some reason, she reached out to touch the white bandage over her eyes and whispered, “It must’ve hurt…”
That night, she’d only managed to pull half the mist out. Ye Lingxi had been in agony. But later, the healers said there was no demonic energy left—just rest was needed.
How did she purge the demonic energy? Ji Fuyu was a top-tier demon. She could absorb and devour her own kind to grow stronger. But the mist had entered Ye Lingxi’s divine sense, making it impossible to extract.
Did her divine sense destroy it? Maybe. It was only half the mist, after all.
Her fingertip accidentally brushed Ye Lingxi’s forehead. Ye Lingxi let out a soft groan, and Ji Fuyu quickly pulled her hand back, placing it over her own heart. She closed her eyes.
Only when she heard no more movement did she exhale and open her eyes again.
Something felt off. Her pupils narrowed. She rolled over and yanked the blanket away from Ye Lingxi.
She’s changed again. Once I get the Longyuan Sword, I’ll kill her.
