Chapter 38 – Magic Power Sealed
“You… why are you back?” Ye Lingxi instinctively took a few steps back upon seeing her, unsure why. You finally show up after eating me clean.
Ji Fuyu didn’t speak. Her gaze remained fixed on Ye Lingxi and the bag on the ground. She spoke in a cold voice, “You’re going out?”
“Yeah,” Ye Lingxi answered bluntly.
Ji Fuyu frowned. “You’re just going out… and not because of me?” She stepped closer, closing in.
Ye Lingxi broke into a cold sweat. Why is she acting like this again?
“I…” She started stammering for some reason.
“What’s the connection?”
Ji Fuyu’s expression was dead serious. “You have the nerve to act innocent? Why did my body start changing after I slept with you last night?”
“What the hell?” Ye Lingxi had no idea what she was talking about.
It was the first time for both of us, I didn’t say anything, and now you’re interrogating me?
“It was just one night. Is it that big a deal?” Ye Lingxi said weakly.
Ji Fuyu’s voice was laced with anger. “I’m asking why my magic got sealed after sleeping with you!”
“Huh?!” Ye Lingxi blinked in confusion, totally innocent. “I… how would I know?”
You’re asking me? Who should I ask then?
I’m still trying to figure out why my whole body’s in pain, why don’t you bring that up?
“I’m going out with my martial uncle to complete a mission.” As Ye Lingxi spoke, she checked her bag. Maybe I packed too much? She glanced at the system.
The system nodded.
Fine, I’ll reduce some of it.
Just as she decided to trim it down and began reorganizing, Ji Fuyu suddenly reached out and grabbed her arm again. Ye Lingxi froze. “I already answered you. What else do you want?” she said with wide, innocent golden eyes.
Ji Fuyu felt her heart clench. Her grip loosened a bit. Ye Lingxi took the chance to pull her arm back and went back to packing, shaking her head.
“You’re really that happy to go do a mission?” Ji Fuyu squinted, lowering her head to look at her.
Ye Lingxi replied, “Not really. It’s just that I’ve been cooped up in here for so long, I needed to get some fresh air.”
Ji Fuyu clearly didn’t believe her. “How come you weren’t this enthusiastic when I asked for your help?”
Ye Lingxi paused, then forced a smile. “What do you mean? Didn’t you already get your sword back? I didn’t even help you complete the mission.”
Ji Fuyu: “…”
“I got the sword back myself.”
Ye Lingxi: “…”
Right… But so what? You got it already, didn’t you? No need to fuss about the rest.
She glanced at Ji Fuyu and said, “Yeah yeah, you’re the best.” Her tone was full of insincere flattery.
Ji Fuyu stepped closer. “But now that I’ve got it, it’s sealed because of you. So what’s the point?” she asked, arms crossed, head tilted.
Ye Lingxi replied, “How should I know? That’s not my fault.”
“How is it not?!” Ji Fuyu suddenly burst out in anger, grabbing both of Ye Lingxi’s arms tightly.
Ye Lingxi was startled. “I told you, I don’t know!” She tried to pull her arms free, but Ji Fuyu wouldn’t let go.
“You must be tired of living!”
“So what if I am?!” Ye Lingxi finally snapped, shouting back with eyes full of bloodshot rage.
She had completely reached her limit.
Ever since she came here, not a single moment had given her peace. Sure, it was her fault for getting into this situation, but even cannon fodder are human. They kept summoning her, using her as a shield and a tool, forcing her into slave labor when she hadn’t even graduated.
Tears welled in her eyes.
Ji Fuyu froze slightly. Her red pupils expanded. Her tense expression eased up.
Ye Lingxi sobbed. “Ever since I got here, not a single day has gone right. You all just bully me. I don’t even know what I did wrong. And what did Yu’er do to deserve being used by that person?” She wiped her tears.
Ji Fuyu didn’t know what to do. Her hands hovered awkwardly.
The system wanted to float over and comfort her, but Ji Fuyu gave it a glare that made it retreat.
“All of you here are the main characters. I’m the only cannon fodder. How am I supposed to survive till the finale? I finally clung to a golden thigh, and turns out she’s doomed too. What did I ever do to deserve this?” Ye Lingxi cried out her frustrations, pausing now and then to wipe tears.
Ji Fuyu: “…”
She didn’t understand a word. Main character? Clinging to a thigh? Cannon fodder? Finale? What was this nonsense?
Clearing her throat, Ji Fuyu said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. But I won’t let anything happen to you.” She placed her hand on Ye Lingxi’s head, holding it there.
Ye Lingxi stared blankly at her palm. What is she doing?
Ji Fuyu rubbed her head some more, messing up her hair.
“…”
Bro, what are you even trying to do?
Ye Lingxi felt like Ji Fuyu was just trying to ruin her hairstyle in the name of comfort.
Ji Fuyu soon withdrew her hand. “As long as you get it.”
Seeing she’d stopped crying, Ji Fuyu turned her back to her.
Ye Lingxi watched, suddenly feeling the urge to kick her. Didn’t she say her magic was sealed? If I hit her, it shouldn’t be a big deal, right? Even if she tries to kill me, she can’t use her magic. And by the time she recovers, I’ll be long gone to some remote corner of the world.
Heh heh heh. Evil thoughts began swirling in Ye Lingxi’s mind. She gathered a bit of her golden spiritual energy and raised her hand for a slap just as Ji Fuyu turned around.
She quickly retracted her hand. But Ji Fuyu suddenly smacked her own hand, which ended up hitting Ye Lingxi’s face with full force. A dramatic sequence followed:
“No—don’t—wait—aaaahhhh—!”
With a swoosh, her own hand smacked her across the face and sent her flying.
She crashed straight into the door.
When Ji Fuyu turned around, she saw Ye Lingxi slumped at the door, eyes dazed and bleeding from the mouth. “I’ll never be cheeky again,” Ye Lingxi muttered.
Ji Fuyu didn’t know what kind of stunt she just pulled, but walked over and helped her up.
Ye Lingxi groaned, “Easy… you’re gonna break my bones.”
The system, which had been gleefully watching from the side, quietly giggled to itself.
Ye Lingxi shot it a glare.
The little cat-like system quickly ducked back into the broken sword.
Can’t afford to mess with either of them.
“What the hell did you do?” Ji Fuyu asked, seeing how beat-up she looked.
Ye Lingxi tensed and replied, “Nothing, just slipped.”
Ji Fuyu: “???????????????????????”
Slipped and flew that far?
Um…
Ye Lingxi glanced at the distance. Yeah, her excuse didn’t really hold up.
“Forget it,” she said, getting up and slapping Ji Fuyu’s shoulder. “So what now?”
Ji Fuyu replied, “I’m going with you.”
Ye Lingxi: “…”
WHAT?! This demon queen is following me now? Is she addicted or something?
“Didn’t you get your sword back already? Why follow me?” Ye Lingxi yanked her hand away.
Ji Fuyu’s hand fell, and she frowned in displeasure. “I have no magic now and no idea why. Of course I’m staying with you. What, you hiding something from me?” She leaned in.
Ye Lingxi leaned back, trying to create distance. “Fine, come if you want. But do you have to speak like that?”
She’s driving me nuts.
I just cried my eyes out, now my face hurts, and she’s giving me another headache.
“So how exactly am I supposed to bring you?” Ye Lingxi pointed at her own bag. “You want me to carry you like this?” She exaggerated a gesture and accidentally pulled her back.
“Ow ow ow.” Her pained expression said it all.
Ji Fuyu calmly said, “I’m still in that feather.”
Ye Lingxi looked at the broken sword and swung it a few times. “You don’t have magic now. How are you going to enter it?”
She used to say she had some magic left. Now it’s all gone—how was she going to enter anything?
Ji Fuyu chuckled coldly. “That feather is part of me. Of course I can enter it.”
Ye Lingxi looked down. “…”
Sounds reasonable.
“Fine then.”
Ye Lingxi had a nagging suspicion that Ji Fuyu was plotting something—and might’ve overheard her own escape plan.
That would be bad.
She bit her lower lip and forced a smile. “So now what?”
“Rest.”
Ye Lingxi’s smile froze as Ji Fuyu flopped right onto the bed.
