Chapter 5: The Demon Queen in Child Form
She never expected to run into her again. “System! System! What’s going on? Wasn’t she defeated by Mo Huaishu? How is she still alive and appearing before me in the form of a child?!” Her shouts echoed in her mind, practically exploding inside her head.
System: Well… I don’t know either.
Ye Lingxi: “…”
“System, what’s the point of having you if you don’t know anything?!”
System: Because this is a hidden plotline that you triggered yourself. Since it wasn’t in the original novel, I can’t provide answers—you’ll have to uncover them on your own.
Ye Lingxi: “…”
At this moment, she seriously considered letting those three men kill her just so she could start over.
System: Host, please take survival seriously!
Ye Lingxi: “…”
D#mn it. Just let me die in piece.
“Wait, kid—you… no, big brother…”
Ji Fuyu glared at her angrily.
Ye Lingxi gasped. “Big sister”
Ji Fuyu flicked her finger, sending out a red flash of energy.
Ye Lingxi was hit by the attack, her head snapping back. “Ah!” She bounced back, clutching her forehead, biting her lip in frustration.
This brat…is seriously?!
“Call me Master!”
Ye Lingxi: “…”
There was no way she was calling her Master. Right now, she looked like a child—her powers shouldn’t be that strong. Ye Lingxi placed her hands on her hips. “You should be calling me Master!”
Ji Fuyu’s red eyes narrowed, her expression turning cold. A wave of anger spread through the air, making the air heavy.
Ye Lingxi, confident that she wouldn’t be harmed, taunted her further. “What? You wanna kill me?” She pressed her hand against Ji Fuyu’s head. “Go ahead, do it! Do it!”
You bullied me before—now that you’re weak, I should take my chance!
Ji Fuyu gave her a sharp look, and a spark of fire shot past Ye Lingxi’s face, leaving a bloody scratch on her skin.
“Ahhh!” Ye Lingxi covered her injured face. “It hurts! It hurts!”
Ji Fuyu snorted. “You asked for it.”
Ye Lingxi: “…”
What the hell?! You actually attacked me?! Shouldn’t you be grateful that I woke you up? How could you repay kindness with hostility?!
System: Host, technically, she saved you too.
Ye Lingxi suddenly remembered the huge hole she had opened in the Snake Pit. “Uh…”
“Even so, she injured my face! Look at this.” Ye Lingxi pouted, showing her wounded cheek to the system.
System:
System: She already responded—you literally asked for it.
Ye Lingxi: “…”
System: Host, stop making things worse and focus on how to survive.
Ye Lingxi: “Thanks for the reminder.”
System: You’re welcome.
Ye Lingxi glanced down at the ponytailed little girl, feeling frustrated. But if she wanted to cling to her for survival, she had to go all in. With a loud thud, she dropped to her knees again, crying dramatically. “I can’t believe it’s really you! Master, you’re still alive!”
Her over-the-top reaction left Ji Fuyu completely confused.
“I’ve been thinking about you all this time.” Ye Lingxi crawled forward on her knees, hugging Ji Fuyu’s leg.
System: Host, you are truly shameless.
“Of course! Clinging to powerful figures is my specialty—it’s just a small trick.”
System: Please continue.
“You don’t have to tell me twice.”
“Waaahhh!” Ye Lingxi cried even harder. “Master, I thought you had died!”
Ji Fuyu tried to shake her off in disgust. “Let go of my leg!”
Ye Lingxi’s eyes were filled with tears, her nose running. “I won’t! If I let go, you’ll disappear again!”
Ji Fuyu said, “Relax. I won’t disappear anymore.”
“Huh? Really?” Ye Lingxi immediately stopped pretending and stood up.
Ji Fuyu: “…”
“That’s great, Master!”
Ji Fuyu cleared her throat, pointing at her. “My feather is with you—I won’t disappear.”
“Feather?” Ye Lingxi tilted her head, thinking. “You mean this?” She picked up her half-unsheathed sword, where the feather was hanging delicately from the hilt.
Ji Fuyu: “You turned my feather into a sword tassel?”
Ye Lingxi felt guilty and tried to hide the sword. “You’re imagining things.”
Ji Fuyu scolded her. “I was wondering what kind of force suddenly summoned me back.”
Ye Lingxi looked completely confused. “What force?”
Ji Fuyu asked her, “Do you have any spiritual energy in your body at all?”
Ye Lingxi shook her head. “I don’t know.” Her expression was naive and innocent.
Ji Fuyu closed her eyes in frustration. “Don’t look at me like that.”
“System, what does she mean?”
System: She’s calling you an idiot.
Ye Lingxi: “…”
She’s the idiot! Her whole family is!
“This feather is a phoenix feather, and yet you—a person with no spiritual energy—just hung it on your broken sword.” Ji Fuyu looked ready to strangle her.
Ye Lingxi surrendered immediately. “Master, I didn’t do it on purpose! I just thought it looked nice, so I hung it there.” She wagged her tail like a loyal puppy.
System: Host, where’s your dignity? Even if you’re clinging to her, you shouldn’t do it like this.
Dignity?
XXX
Who needs dignity? Between dignity and survival, I’ll choose survival every time.
System: With that mindset, you’ll succeed in anything you do.
Thanks for the compliment.
Ji Fuyu noticed Ye Lingxi spacing out again, ignoring her completely. She grabbed her by the collar. “I don’t care what the reason is—you owe me an explanation!”
Ye Lingxi avoided her gaze, feeling uneasy about their close proximity. Even though Ji Fuyu looked like a five-year-old, her terrifying aura was still intact.
“I’m telling the truth! You told me to go to Dragon Head Mountain, but when I got there, all I found were battle remnants—nothing else. The only thing left was your phoenix feather, which landed on me. I realized it was yours, so I kept it. I didn’t have anywhere safe to store it, and I was afraid of losing it, so I tied it to my broken sword as a tassel. I really didn’t mean any harm.” Her voice cracked, on the verge of tears.
Ji Fuyu studied her serious expression—it didn’t seem like a lie. If she had wrongfully accused her, wouldn’t that make her the villain?
She released her grip and said, “Since that’s the case, I’ll give you a chance to redeem yourself.”
What? A chance? Is she insane? She’s giving me a chance to redeem myself? She must be out of her mind. I was kind enough to keep her feather, and now she’s acting like I owe her something. I swear, I want to punch her in the head.
Ji Fuyu lowered her gaze, thinking about her Longyuan Sword. That woman must have taken it. She had to find a way to get it back. Right now, her spiritual energy hadn’t fully recovered. If she hadn’t self-destructed, she never would have escaped.
Mingyue, Mingyue… I destroyed your physical form, and your spiritual energy won’t be able to find a matching body anytime soon. Your power will completely dissipate. Meanwhile, my phoenix clan has the ability to be reborn through nirvana. No one in this world can stop me from conquering everything and becoming the true ruler.
“Your name is Ye Lingxi, right? From now on, you are my personal guardian.”
Ye Lingxi smiled, but there was no sincerity in it. Personal guardian? Guardian my ass! No matter how much she hated it, she had to smile and accept it.
“Thank you, Master!”
Ji Fuyu was satisfied. “Good. Now, I have a mission for you.”
D#mn it, look at what she’s saying. She just appointed me, and now she’s already giving me a mission? What kind of master does that?!
“Retrieve my Longyuan Sword.” Ji Fuyu’s voice was ice-cold.
Ye Lingxi frowned. “Your sword?”
Ji Fuyu glared at her.
Ye Lingxi waved her hands, laughing nervously. “No, no, no… I meant, Master, where is your sword?”
System: Host, are you messing with her? It’s obviously with Mo Huaishu.
“I know. I did it on purpose—to make her seem more powerful.”
System:
Ji Fuyu felt awkward, unsure how to respond. She had never seen that woman before—how could she know where her Longyuan Sword was?
“A woman took it.”
Ye Lingxi asked innocently, “What kind of woman?”
Ji Fuyu thought for a moment. “A ruthless woman at the Golden Core stage.”
A ruthless woman? Ye Lingxi found it ironic that Ji Fuyu was calling Mo Huaishu ruthless. They were practically the same.
“Are you talking about Mo Huaishu?”
“Mo Huaishu?” Ji Fuyu frowned. “Who is that?”
Ye Lingxi explained simply, “She’s the only woman at the Golden Core stage around here who looks ruthless. Plus, Dragon Head Mountain is her territory.”
Ji Fuyu considered her words. “Then it must be her! She’s about the same height as me.”
“Then it’s definitely her.”
“Now, go retrieve my Longyuan Sword. If you succeed, I’ll reward you well.” Ji Fuyu patted her shoulder.
Ye Lingxi, still kneeling, thought to herself: D#mn it, when is she going to let me stand up?
System: Host, does she not know you’re Mo Huaishu’s disciple?
“She was sealed for so long—she probably has no idea what’s happening outside. Right now, all she cares about is her sword. Besides, she’s a demon queen—her only goal is to rule. If we push her into conflict with the female leads, we might be able to speed up the ending.”
System:
You’re truly cunning. I’m impressed.
