Chapter 61: “This person, I’m taking her with me.”
“Hurry, hurry! We need to move faster!” some disciples shouted as they ran. But before they could even react, they were already engulfed in black smoke and dropped dead on the spot.
Perched atop the trees, Jing—still in his crow form—watched everything unfold through his dark, beady eyes. Everyone who appeared dropped dead one after another.
A few disciples, now slowing their steps in fear, looked up in panic, trying to understand what was happening. “Come out!” one of them shouted into the eerie emptiness of the demon forest, holding his sword with trembling hands. “We’re not afraid of you!”
The black smoke swirled and engulfed the few remaining living disciples.
“We didn’t provoke you—why are you trying to catch us?!”
“Because you’re demons—beings who bring calamity to the three realms.”
“Oh? Looks like it’s either your death or ours today, then.”
As soon as Jing finished speaking, bl00d flowed like a river. The remaining disciples were slaughtered, turning into pools of bl00d. He reverted into human form and muttered softly, “I’m sorry.” In a flash, he returned to his crow form and flew to find Ji Fuyu.
Ji Fuyu, currently without any magic power, could only hide. Inside a mountain cave, she leaned against a stone wall, gripping the sword she had taken from a sect disciple to keep herself upright. Upon hearing a sound, she raised the blade cautiously.
“Who’s there?!”
Jing landed in front of her and said, “My King, it’s me.”
Seeing him, Ji Fuyu finally relaxed. “How is it?”
“Not great. They already know you’ve lost your magic,” Jing replied, watching her reaction carefully.
Ji Fuyu’s face turned grim. “So she still lied to me.”
Hearing her choking up, Jing tried to bring her back to her senses. “My King, what should we do now? Fight or flee?”
Ji Fuyu gave a faint, twisted smile. “With no magic, I can’t fight them head-on… but…”
“But what?”
“You go capture that woman for me. Remove the seal on my power.”
“How will you make her undo it?”
“I have my ways.”
“Yes, understood.”
Meanwhile, Ye Lingxi and the others arrived at the site where Jing had just massacred everyone.
“Looks like Jing really has grown much stronger,” Fu Guang said as he crouched down to examine the residual demonic energy left behind.
Ye Lingxi felt a vague sense of unease.
“Senior Brother,” Lan Mushu approached Fu Guang. “Let me go. You all just recovered.”
Ye Lingxi grabbed her hand. “Mushu, I’ll go with you.”
“You…” Lan Mushu hesitated slightly.
Ye Lingxi added, “My spiritual power has increased significantly—I can go with you.”
Still hesitant, Lan Mushu glanced at Fu Guang. He nodded. “If she goes, we might be able to catch them faster.”
Exactly what Ye Lingxi was thinking. Now that the plot had deviated, Ji Fuyu was likely the final boss of this novel. If they could re-seal her, the story would end, and Ye Lingxi could return to her world. So she had to witness it herself.
“Alright then.”
Lan Mushu finally agreed. Ye Lingxi was delighted—look at her, no cheats, yet she had survived all the way to the end. She never expected herself to be the reincarnation of Mingyue Shangshen. Though she didn’t want to be some great deity, a part of her still sympathized with Mingyue—she wasn’t that bad.
No! She couldn’t think like that. Mingyue was a demon now, and good and evil cannot coexist.
“Let’s hurry and catch them—they can’t have gone far.”
“Mm, okay.”
Ye Lingxi and Lan Mushu set out to track them down. Ji Fuyu was the first to hear movement.
“They’re here.”
Jing quickly concealed Ji Fuyu, while the two girls entered and chatted. “Strange, why is there no one here?”
Hearing Ye Lingxi’s voice, Ji Fuyu’s dark eyes narrowed, a cold smile curling on her lips. “You walked right into the trap yourself.” She was about to strike when another voice stopped her.
“Did you find anything on your side?”
Ye Lingxi turned around and walked back to the cave entrance. “No, what about you?”
Listening to their conversation, Ji Fuyu was now certain Ye Lingxi had betrayed her. She wanted to kill her on the spot, but Jing held her back and whispered, “My King, don’t act rashly.”
A sound behind her caused Ye Lingxi to glance back before she re-entered the cave.
Jing gripped Ji Fuyu tightly and said in her ear, “Now is not the time.”
Ye Lingxi ventured deeper into the pitch-black cave, muttering to herself, “Why is this place so dark? I can’t see a thing.” She squinted and carefully stepped forward, nearly tripping over a rock and falling flat in front of the hidden pair. Thankfully, she caught herself on the wall.
No contact was made between them.
“What are you still doing here?” Lan Mushu suddenly barged in.
Ye Lingxi replied, “Oh, nothing. Just looking around.”
“Don’t waste time—we need to catch the demon king quickly,” Lan Mushu urged her not to dawdle.
Ye Lingxi answered, “Okay, wait for me.”
Once they had left, Jing finally revealed himself. Ji Fuyu growled, “Why didn’t you grab her just now?”
“Lan Mushu was too close. We might’ve been discovered.”
Frustrated, Ji Fuyu shoved him aside. “Get her back—now!”
“I understand.”
Jing flew out in crow form to monitor their every move.
When Ye Lingxi and Lan Mushu decided to split up, Jing saw his opportunity. He used his magic to send a message to Ji Fuyu: “My King, now’s our chance.”
Ji Fuyu grinned. Ye Lingxi, your time is up.
Ye Lingxi entered a rundown hut. When she pushed the door, it immediately fell off—it had completely rotted away.
Inside, the smell of decayed wood was overwhelming. She covered her nose and didn’t notice anything suspicious, but when she turned around—bam—she bumped heads with a bl00d-soaked Ji Fuyu. Jing perched on her shoulder again.
Sensing danger, Ye Lingxi instinctively stepped back.
Ji Fuyu’s thin lips curled into a chilling smile, filled with bloodlust and excitement. “Mingyue, you lied to me so cruelly.”
Ye Lingxi tried to summon her broken sword, but before she could, Jing immobilized her.
Now she was like a lamb waiting for slaughter—completely helpless.
“Xiao Xi, did you find anything?” Lan Mushu had found nothing in her direction and came looking for her.
Ji Fuyu sneered. “Go kill her.” She ordered the controlled Ye Lingxi.
“Yes, my King,” Ye Lingxi replied.
She summoned her broken sword and walked step by step toward Lan Mushu.
Seeing her with a sword, Lan Mushu cautiously asked, “Xiao Xi?”
“I must obey the King’s command—to kill you.” She rushed forward after finishing her sentence.
Lan Mushu’s eyes widened. As Ye Lingxi lunged, she quickly summoned her immortal vine whip, but was a second too late. The empowered Ye Lingxi landed a slash across her face.
“Ye Lingxi, what are you doing?!”
“Obeying the King’s command.”
“What King’s command?” Lan Mushu’s mind spun, then realization hit. “Oh no—she’s been controlled by the demon king!”
From behind Ye Lingxi came a voice full of malice and glee, clapping mockingly. “Very good. Wonderful. Watching you kill each other is the most satisfying thing for this king.”
She twisted her neck as if enjoying the spectacle.
“You?!” Lan Mushu gritted her teeth. “You vicious, scheming demon king!”
“Vicious? Scheming?” Ji Fuyu laughed maniacally. “Hahahahahaha… Who’s truly vicious and scheming here? I did nothing, yet you all hunted me down, spat on me. From the start, have I ever hurt you? Yet you all looked at me with disgust.”
“I…” Lan Mushu was rendered speechless.
Ji Fuyu had no interest in arguing. “Ye Lingxi, kill her. Do that, and I’ll go easy on you.”
“What are you planning?!”
“You’ll know soon enough.” With a snap of her fingers, Ye Lingxi resumed attacking. Her fierce strikes left Lan Mushu no choice but to defend herself.
Even while fighting, Lan Mushu kept shouting, “Ye Lingxi! Wake up! Don’t let yourself be controlled!”
Ye Lingxi’s eyes were vacant, robotic, without a trace of will—just mechanically fighting.
Lan Mushu tried binding her with the vine whip, but as soon as she applied pressure, Ye Lingxi’s clothes were soaked in bl00d. She was tearing the whip apart with her own spiritual power.
Unwilling to hurt her, Lan Mushu withdrew it.
Ji Fuyu watched gleefully from below.
“Ye Lingxi, use more power. Kill her now.”
Receiving the command, Ye Lingxi gathered her power and slammed Lan Mushu to the ground.
Lan Mushu coughed bl00d. Still, she didn’t give up. “Ye Lingxi!”
Something flickered in Ye Lingxi’s eyes. She paused mid-strike, and her broken sword dropped to the ground. She crouched down and asked, “I… you…”
Lan Mushu smiled in relief. “Thank goodness. You’re back to normal.”
“I… did I do all this?” Before Ye Lingxi could finish, pain surged through her body.
Lan Mushu said, “I’m sorry. I hurt you too.”
Seeing Ye Lingxi break free of the spell, Ji Fuyu ordered Jing to capture her.
Ye Lingxi rose into the air, trying to get away. Lan Mushu reached out and only managed to grab her fingertips.
Ye Lingxi summoned her broken sword, trying to break free of Jing’s magic. But she was swept away entirely.
Ji Fuyu grabbed her by the arm. When Ye Lingxi tried to fight back, Jing locked her sword arm.
The two of them were swallowed by a cloud of black smoke and vanished.
Ji Fuyu left one final message: “This person—I’m taking her with me.” Her red eyes were bloodthirsty and menacing.
“No! No!” Lan Mushu struggled to stand, trying to grab hold of them, but her efforts were in vain. They disappeared right before her eyes.
