Chapter 64: “Husband Is Not Right? Then It’s Hubby.”
Jing examined Ye Lingxi’s eyes, trying to focus them. But Ye Lingxi started acting strangely again—she poked Jing right in the eye.
“Ah!” Jing howled in pain, clutching her eye where she’d been poked. Tears welled up—sore and stinging.
Ji Fuyu instinctively took a step back upon witnessing this scene.
Ye Lingxi, however, stretched out her arms with a smile. “I want a hug.”
Ji Fuyu: “…”
Ye Lingxi jumped onto her like a sloth, clinging to her tightly. As soon as she latched on, she whispered in her ear, “My waist really hurts.”
Ji Fuyu: “…”
Ji Fuyu cleared her throat. “What exactly is wrong with her?”
“If you ask me,” Jing replied awkwardly, “she probably burned out her brain from the fever, and with how you tortured her, she might’ve had some kind of mental break.”
Ji Fuyu: “…”
“So when will she return to normal?”
“That’s hard to say. Depends on her luck.”
Ji Fuyu: “…”
Ye Lingxi kept playing with Ji Fuyu’s feathered earring, like she’d discovered something rare. “This is so pretty. Can I have it?”
Ji Fuyu: “…”
“You—get off me!”
“No.” Ye Lingxi clung to her neck tightly. “I’m not letting go. I just want to stay like this.”
Ji Fuyu used her magic to lift her off the ground. Ye Lingxi flailed helplessly in the air. “Put me down!”
She was like a little duckling learning to swim that had suddenly been plucked from the water, flapping her arms wildly.
“Are you faking memory loss or is it real?!” Ji Fuyu asked bluntly.
Ye Lingxi seemed not to understand what she was saying. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. Please, put me down. I’m scared of heights.” Her voice trembled with sobs, eyes teary and pitiful.
Ji Fuyu: “…”
She had no choice but to lower her to the ground. The moment she touched down, Ye Lingxi pounced forward again, only for Ji Fuyu to press a finger against her forehead to stop her.
Ye Lingxi reached for her, but her arms were too short to get anywhere near.
Ji Fuyu smirked. “Trying to touch me again? Not so easy now, is it?”
Ye Lingxi refused to give up, pushing her forehead forward persistently. But with Ji Fuyu’s hand still firmly planted on her head, she had no way to get close.
Jing: “…”
“You two have fun. I’m out of here.” Jing turned away, refusing to watch the antics of the two children any longer.
Ye Lingxi finally wore herself out and slumped back onto the bed, clutching her belly as it growled loudly.
“I’m hungry.” She pouted.
Ji Fuyu stared down at her as she whined about being hungry.
She tried to avoid her pleading gaze, but it was so intense, so scorching that she had no way to dodge it. She gave in.
“Someone bring food.”
“Yes, Your Highness.”
Ye Lingxi tilted her head and watched the demon soldier who came in.
The moment Ji Fuyu turned around, Ye Lingxi sat upright, looking prim and proper.
Soon, the demon soldier returned with a tray of food. Ye Lingxi’s eyes lit up, reaching out immediately. But Ji Fuyu spun the tray behind her and asked, “Did you really lose your memory?”
“What memory loss?”
“Then do you still remember me?”
“Yes,” Ye Lingxi nodded.
Ji Fuyu’s grip on the tray tightened.
She smiled sweetly. “You’re my husband.”
Ji Fuyu’s head nearly exploded.
“What did you just say?”
Ye Lingxi tapped her finger to her lips in thought. “Hmm… was that not right?”
“What do you think?”
“Husband is wrong?” Ye Lingxi thought hard. “Then… it’s ‘hubby.’ You’re my hubby.”
Ji Fuyu: “…”
“Ye Lingxi! My patience has limits!”
Ji Fuyu nearly exploded with rage.
But Ye Lingxi, terrified by her outburst, clung to her leg and dropped to her knees. “Waaahhh—hubby, are you abandoning me?” she wailed, nose running and tears streaming. “Didn’t we already get married? Didn’t we already share a bridal chamber?”
Ji Fuyu gritted her teeth. “When did we ever get married?”
“You slept with me, didn’t you? Isn’t that the same as being married?” Ye Lingxi sobbed. “You’re my hubby—I’ve always remembered that. Hubby, don’t you remember? I’m your wife.” She clung to Ji Fuyu’s leg, making it impossible for her to move.
Ji Fuyu: “…”
Her eyes drifted to the dessert in her hand. Ye Lingxi was drooling.
Ji Fuyu realized if this continued, she’d start spouting even more nonsense. So she lowered the plate of pastries.
Ye Lingxi’s reflexes were lightning-fast. She stood up, grabbed the pastries, and devoured them like a starving wolf, even running to a corner to eat in secret.
Ji Fuyu: “…”
She ate so quickly she nearly choked. She pounded her chest to force the food down, her face flushing red.
Ji Fuyu leisurely poured a cup of water. At the sound of pouring, Ye Lingxi couldn’t help but look over. Ji Fuyu smirked and shook the cup in front of her.
Ye Lingxi crept over to snatch the cup. Ji Fuyu hadn’t even had a chance to warm her hands on it before it was yanked away, and she was shoved aside.
Ye Lingxi drank in big gulps and let out a satisfied belch.
“Now you’re full?”
Ji Fuyu asked, but Ye Lingxi didn’t answer. Instead, she leaned in and kissed her cheek.
“Thanks for the meal, hubby.”
Ji Fuyu froze completely. Time seemed to stop. When she snapped out of it, she raised a hand to touch the spot where she’d just been kissed.
The sensation was just like the last time she’d accidentally been touched—her heart was thumping wildly, far faster than usual.
She could barely control the sound of her heartbeat; it felt so loud that everyone around could hear it.
Ye Lingxi noticed something was off and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Ji Fuyu pushed away her approaching hand. “Stand there. Don’t move!”
Ye Lingxi stepped back.
Once Ji Fuyu’s heartbeat calmed, she turned around and demanded, “What did you do to me?!” She gritted her teeth—only to find herself speechless.
Ye Lingxi had moved eight zhang (around 80 feet) away.
Ji Fuyu: “…”
“Why did you run so far?”
Ye Lingxi cupped her hands to her mouth and shouted, “Didn’t you say to stay away from you?!”
Ji Fuyu: “…”
“But… you didn’t have to go that far.”
“Oh.” Ye Lingxi immediately ran back up to her face and stared into her eyes.
Ji Fuyu leaned back instinctively.
“You’re too close.”
Ye Lingxi pouted, “You said too far just now, now too close. What distance do you want?”
Ji Fuyu took a few steps back. “This distance is fine.”
Ye Lingxi wasn’t satisfied and stepped forward again. “But I want to be with you forever.” She grabbed her arm.
The sudden mushy line caught Ji Fuyu completely off guard. “That’s not necessary.” She tried to pull away.
But Ye Lingxi refused to let go.
Why was she so clingy after losing her memory?
“I told you—I’m not your hubby!”
Ye Lingxi pouted, “You are.”
“I’m a woman. How could I be?!”
“But you have that.” Ye Lingxi pointed between her legs.
Ji Fuyu clamped her thighs together. “You sure remember that part clearly.”
“If you’re a woman, then why do you have a jj?”
Ji Fuyu: “…”
“So now it’s my fault I have a jj?”
“Isn’t it?” Ye Lingxi rested her head on her shoulder. “Even if you’re a woman, you’re still my hubby. A lady hubby.”
Ji Fuyu: “…”
Fine! If that’s how it is, let’s see how long you can keep this up.
She took a deep breath. “Ye Lingxi, you like clinging to me that much, huh? Fine. Starting today, you’ll be my personal maid. How’s that?” She hooked a finger under Ye Lingxi’s chin.
“Maid?”
“That’s right. My personal maid.” Her gaze sharpened. “Only to serve me. How about that?”
Crumbs from the pastries still clung to Ye Lingxi’s lips. Ji Fuyu wiped them away, licked her lips, then bent down and kissed her. Thin silver threads intertwined between them.
Ye Lingxi’s face flushed bright red.
