Chapter 70: “You Bad Person”
Ye Lingxi came to just in time to see the chicken’s kick land squarely—right on Ji Fuyu’s face. She skidded to a stop in alarm and covered her eyes, too scared to look. Through the crack between her fingers, she peeked at Ji Fuyu’s expression.
There was a faint chicken claw mark on Ji Fuyu’s cheek.
Ye Lingxi’s heart sank. She was doomed.
Even though it technically wasn’t her fault, the timing was too unfortunate. A fiery aura flared up behind her.
“Ye Lingxi!” Ji Fuyu’s furious voice roared as she lunged toward her.
Ye Lingxi took off running.
“Stop right there!”
“I won’t! You’ll hit me!” Ye Lingxi shouted, eyes shut as she sprinted away. She might be useless in most things, but escaping was her specialty.
Seeing she couldn’t catch up, Ji Fuyu summoned her magical energy. A sticky, binding force dragged Ye Lingxi back across the ground, leaving two long streaks in the dirt.
“Still running?”
Ye Lingxi shook her head. “Nope. Not anymore.”
How could she still run like this? Totally stuck.
“What exactly were you doing?” Ji Fuyu questioned, the claw mark still fresh on her face.
Ye Lingxi couldn’t hold it in—she burst out laughing.
Ji Fuyu’s temper flared. “You’re laughing at me?!”
She flung Ye Lingxi to the ground. Ye Lingxi landed hard on her rear.
“Hey! What are you doing? Don’t you know how to treat a delicate woman properly?”
“What did you just say?”
“Nothing! I said, whatever you do, I still like it, husband,” Ye Lingxi replied sweetly, tracing circles on Ji Fuyu’s chest with her finger. “Husband, my poor butt really hurts from the fall…”
Her cooing voice loosened Ji Fuyu’s frown.
Ye Lingxi felt nauseous just hearing herself talk like that.
Ugh. The things I do to stay alive.
Ji Fuyu’s anger visibly subsided, the dark energy around her thinning.
“Don’t let it happen again!” Ji Fuyu snapped and turned to leave.
Ye Lingxi quickly got up and grabbed her sleeve. “Husband, I want to go outside.”
“Denied,” Ji Fuyu said flatly.
“But I wanna!”
A flicker of flame ignited in Ji Fuyu’s hand—black-red and dangerous. It came so close it almost singed Ye Lingxi’s bangs.
“Still want to go?” she asked, voice dangerously low.
Ye Lingxi quickly patted her hair. “Nope, not going.”
The fire vanished, but Ye Lingxi hadn’t given up. She had to get out. If no one ever found her, her whole fake amnesia act would eventually fall apart.
She crouched and started drawing circles in the dirt with a stick.
Ji Fuyu glanced back and saw her squatting silently. She walked over.
“What are you doing?”
Ye Lingxi didn’t respond. She kept muttering softly, “Drawing a circle… cursing you…”
Ji Fuyu’s face darkened. “What did I ever do to you now?”
“You won’t let me go outside.”
Ji Fuyu: “…”
“You promised to take me rabbit hunting.”
Ji Fuyu: “…”
She rubbed her forehead. Here we go again.
“If you keep acting like this, I won’t humor you anymore.”
“Fine, leave then. I don’t care.”
Ji Fuyu: “…”
“If you abandon me, I’ll just find another husband. One that actually makes me happy.”
Ji Fuyu’s voice sharpened. “Ye Lingxi!” She grabbed her wrist. “Who do you think you’ll find as your husband?!”
“Someone who makes me smile.”
Ji Fuyu gritted her teeth. “Have I spoiled you too much? You think husbands are like shoes you can just swap out?”
“There are men with multiple wives. Why can’t I have more than one husband?”
“That’s different! You can only have one husband—me.”
“And why’s that?”
Ji Fuyu yanked her toward the bedchamber. “What, do I need to remind you why you can’t just swap me out? You think I can’t match them? I’ve got everything they’ve got.”
“What are you trying to do?” Ye Lingxi clutched her clothes tightly, trying to defend herself.
“What do you think? Didn’t you say whoever sleeps with you has to take responsibility? Forgot already? Don’t worry—I’ll jog your memory.”
Ye Lingxi: “…”
Did I go too far? Wasn’t she against being my husband at first?
She tried to roll off the bed, but Ji Fuyu caught her easily. “Where do you think you’re going? I haven’t even started yet.”
“No need—really,” Ye Lingxi protested.
Ji Fuyu leaned in close. “Too late.”
Ye Lingxi became a helpless lamb to the slaughter.
…
Her crying echoed through the entire palace. “You bad person! You put your pants on and ran!”
“When did I run?” Ji Fuyu asked, already fully dressed and looking way too composed.
“You’re doing it right now!” Ye Lingxi accused, pointing at her.
“Oh? So that counts as running? Good to know. But I’m no hypocrite.”
Ye Lingxi: “…”
Wretched woman.
Her whole body was covered in Ji Fuyu’s marks. There wasn’t a single unscathed spot left.
She bit so hard—was she part dog?
Even her two soft little buns were covered in teeth marks.
Ji Fuyu held out her hand. “Here. Bite this. Let it out.”
Ye Lingxi didn’t hold back—she chomped down hard, drawing bl00d. But Ji Fuyu didn’t even flinch. She didn’t pull her hand back at all.
“You don’t feel pain?” Ye Lingxi asked, startled.
Ji Fuyu smiled. “Pain? This little scratch is nothing.”
Ye Lingxi suddenly felt a little guilty. She looked at the bite wound and thought it might as well have been on her own hand.
She was about to apologize when Ji Fuyu added, “You got your bite in. Next time I bite you, you’re not allowed to bite me back.”
Ji Fuyu whispered it right into her ear, voice low and sultry.
Ye Lingxi was fuming. She swung at her, but Ji Fuyu grabbed her hand midair. “Wanna hit me? You’re still too green.”
Ye Lingxi: “…”
She switched tactics and kicked her. Direct hit.
“Hah! How’s that for green, huh?”
Ji Fuyu clenched her jaw, refusing to cry out.
“I didn’t even kick you as hard as you bit me. What? Can’t handle it?” Ye Lingxi mocked.
Ji Fuyu hissed, “Ye. Ling. Xi!”
Ye Lingxi’s face froze. “Mercy, husband! I’m sorry! I didn’t mean it!”
Sweat broke out on Ji Fuyu’s forehead as she held back the pain.
Ye Lingxi giggled. Heh. That’s what you get.
You’re the one with that extra thing. Good thing I’m not a freak with one myself.
“I’m fine,” Ji Fuyu muttered, turning away.
Ye Lingxi peeked over her shoulder and laughed.
Against someone that ruthless, you’ve got to fight fire with fire.
“Husband,” Ye Lingxi said sweetly, “are you okay?”
“No problem,” Ji Fuyu replied, though her whole body was still tense.
Eventually, Ji Fuyu relented and agreed to let her go outside.
“Really?” Ye Lingxi’s eyes lit up.
Ji Fuyu nodded. “Of course. I never lie.”
“Yes!” Ye Lingxi cheered, jumping with joy.
Ji Fuyu frowned. “What does ‘yes’ mean?”
“It means ‘okay’ or ‘great’!”
Ji Fuyu raised an eyebrow. “Why do you speak in words we don’t understand?”
“Uh… it’s my hometown dialect.”
“Hometown dialect?”
“Yep!” Ye Lingxi pushed her forward. “Stop asking so much! Let’s go already!”
I can’t wait any longer.
“I can walk on my own,” Ji Fuyu said.
No, you can’t!
“I’ll help. It’ll be faster.”
Ji Fuyu narrowed her eyes. “You sure?”
“Totally sure.”
“But we’re walking the wrong direction.”
Ye Lingxi stopped and looked around. “Doesn’t everything look the same?”
“This isn’t the way out.”
Ye Lingxi scratched her head. “Really? I guess I got lost again.”
Ever since arriving here, Ye Lingxi had been completely hopeless with directions. Everything looked the same. She couldn’t tell east from west.
Ji Fuyu sighed. “I’ll lead the way.”
“Okay.” Ye Lingxi agreed immediately. She honestly had no idea which way to go.
She held onto Ji Fuyu’s sleeve. Ji Fuyu glanced back. “Why are you grabbing my clothes?”
“I’m scared.”
“There’s nothing scary here. What are you afraid of?”
“Getting lost.”
Ji Fuyu: “…”
“Then you’d better hold tight. If you get lost, I won’t have time to come find you next time.”
Ye Lingxi tightened her grip. “Got it.”
She wasn’t about to let this chance slip away.
Ji Fuyu reached back and took her hand. “Let me hold on to you instead. Saves me the trouble of having to track you down.”
Ye Lingxi felt a warmth in her heart. “Thank you.”
“I’m your husband. What’s there to thank me for?”
Ye Lingxi: “…”
If I say thanks, you say it’s unnecessary. But if I don’t say anything, you get mad. What do you want from me?
