After Transmigrating Into a Book, I Was Forced to Play the Role of a Scumbag Alpha (GL) - Chapter 14
Chapter 14
After Shen Hanzhi and Wen Jin left the store, they went to a women’s clothing shop on the second floor. The store was large, with a wide variety of styles. Shen Hanzhi planned to buy the little girl plenty of clothes and dresses.
Since the little girl wasn’t good at choosing, Shen Hanzhi took over. She picked items, had the little girl try them on, and bought the ones that looked good.
While they were selecting clothes, Wen Kai passed by outside, complaining to Wen Xin, “Didn’t Wen Jin get us five million? Why did Dad give us so little pocket money this month? Thirty thousand yuan—he thinks we’re beggars? My friends invited me to a bar, and I didn’t even dare go. I’m fed up.”
“You’re one to talk. A few days ago, I saw a bag I liked for a hundred thousand. Before, I’d have bought it right away. Now, I’m strapped even for dinners with friends, and I can’t buy anything I like in the mall,” Wen Xin grumbled, looking up to see Shen Hanzhi and Wen Jin shopping inside.
The clothes in this store weren’t cheap; a simple white T-shirt cost nearly ten thousand yuan. Wen Xin hadn’t expected Shen Hanzhi to bring Wen Jin here to shop.
She stopped and grabbed Wen Kai’s arm, “Brother, look who’s in there!”
Wen Kai glanced over impatiently, then saw Shen Hanzhi and Wen Jin chatting and laughing inside, “Damn, why are they here? Is Shen Hanzhi so bored she’s taking that loser to the mall?”
“Yeah, Brother, look, she’s picking clothes for that little bastard. How is that possible? Didn’t they say Shen Hanzhi has a bad temper? Why is she so nice to Wen Jin?”
Wen Xin felt uneasy. Even she wouldn’t buy a dozen items here at once because the prices were steep. But looking at the pile of clothes on the sofa, was Shen Hanzhi planning to buy them all for Wen Jin?
“Let’s go in and see what’s up. That loser’s still our dear sister, after all. Maybe we can get something out of Shen Hanzhi,” Wen Kai said, pushing open the store door. Wen Xin followed closely behind. She hadn’t bought new clothes in months; their pocket money was pitifully small, not enough for anything.
Hearing the door, Wen Jin instinctively looked over. When she saw who it was, her face turned pale, and the clothes in her hands slipped to the floor.
Seeing Wen Jin’s timid look, Wen Xin smirked with satisfaction, raising an eyebrow at her disdainfully.
Shen Hanzhi noticed Wen Jin’s expression change, put down the clothes in her hands, and asked softly, “What’s wrong?”
Wen Jin pointed behind Shen Hanzhi and said timidly, “Brother and Sister are here.”
Shen Hanzhi patted Wen Jin’s hand to comfort her, turned to glance at the two, and looked away with disdain. They were just two losers. Having read the original book, she knew they had mistreated Wen Jin plenty at Rose Manor.
Shen Hanzhi pulled the little girl into her arms and coaxed softly, “It’s okay. They’re unimportant people. Ignore them. Let’s keep looking at clothes.”
Due to past painful memories, Wen Jin was very afraid of Wen Xin and Wen Kai, instinctively gripping Shen Hanzhi’s wrist tightly.
Seeing how scared the little girl was of them, Shen Hanzhi grew even more annoyed at the sudden arrivals. She turned to Wen Kai and Wen Xin, frowning, and asked, “Do you two need something?”
“Just shopping,” Wen Kai said, his gaze passing Shen Hanzhi to land on Wen Jin. She was wearing Shen Hanzhi’s long dress, which made her look quite different from the Wen Jin at Rose Manor, with a touch of gentle beauty. Wen Kai’s stare was blatant, not like a brother looking at his sister.
Shen Hanzhi noticed, stepped in front of Wen Jin, and said coldly, “You two sure have a lot of free time. The Wen Corporation is on its last legs, yet you’re out shopping. With this time, you should go home and see what valuables you can sell. You might be on the streets soon.”
“You…” Wen Kai swallowed his curse words. He knew the family’s situation was as Shen Hanzhi described, and their father might need to ask her for help later. He couldn’t afford to be reckless.
“What? Am I wrong?” Shen Hanzhi looked at them, her tone steady, and continued, “My wife doesn’t like you two. Please leave.”
Wen Kai hadn’t expected Shen Hanzhi to be so blunt, laying out the Wen family’s situation openly. But the company was indeed in trouble, and their father might need to beg Shen Hanzhi for help. He didn’t dare fall out with her.
He wasn’t sure if it was his imagination, but Wen Kai felt Shen Hanzhi was different from before, though he couldn’t pinpoint how. Maybe it was because the original Shen Hanzhi lived chaotically, giving off a spoiled rich kid vibe? But now, that was gone. He even felt a bit intimidated looking into her eyes.
Wen Xin, however, was unwilling, glaring at Wen Jin, “Oh, look at you, married into wealth and now you don’t even acknowledge your family, huh, Third Miss Wen?”
The little girl trembled at Wen Xin’s mocking tone. She had heard it her whole life, etched into her bones. Whenever Wen Xin spoke to her like this, Wen Jin usually suffered—either beaten by her parents, called a little bastard, or worse, locked in the dog cage in the backyard. Though it was a childhood experience, it often haunted her nightmares, lingering persistently.
The little girl’s body shook slightly, her eyes reddening. She hid behind Shen Hanzhi, almost crying, “Sister, I didn’t disown them.”
Shen Hanzhi heard the cry in the little girl’s voice, turned, and pulled her into her arms. She looked at Wen Xin coldly, “Don’t play your sarcastic games with me. The Wen Corporation only survived this month because of my five million. Without my investment, you might be a beggar already. I’ve heard about your family’s affairs, and you weren’t good to Little Jin. I know that clearly, so don’t act in front of me. If you’re here to buy clothes, go ahead, but don’t bother my wife.”
Shen Hanzhi’s gaze swept over Wen Kai and Wen Xin, gently patting the little girl’s back to comfort her, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here. No one will hurt you. Ignore them. Let’s keep picking clothes. This black dress looks nice. Want to try it?”
Hearing Shen Hanzhi’s gentle tone, the little girl finally lifted her face from her chest, looking at her timidly. She was so cowardly; would Sister dislike her?
Thankfully, she saw no disgust in Shen Hanzhi’s eyes, and her heart eased slightly. She took the dress Shen Hanzhi handed her, murmuring, “But, but, Brother and Sister…”
“Ignore them. I want to see you in this. Go try it, okay?” Shen Hanzhi coaxed gently.
The little girl couldn’t resist Shen Hanzhi’s gentle tone, nodded, and walked nervously to the fitting room.
Once the little girl entered the fitting room, Shen Hanzhi ignored the two, leisurely sat on the sofa to wait, and a perceptive shop assistant brought her tea, which she didn’t touch.
Wen Kai saw staying would only anger Shen Hanzhi further, and she clearly didn’t want to deal with them. He whispered to Wen Xin, “Don’t make a scene. It’ll only embarrass us. Our family can’t afford to offend Shen Hanzhi now. Just bear it.”
Wen Xin’s chest heaved with anger. Usually, she didn’t even glance at Wen Jin, so how dare Wen Jin ignore her? Furious, she shook off Wen Kai’s hand and stormed out.
