After Transmigrating Into a Book, I Was Forced to Play the Role of a Scumbag Alpha (GL) - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Several days later, Wen Hengqiu, who never cared about Wen Jin, unexpectedly visited Rose Manor. In the first-floor hall, he specifically asked to see Wen Jin.
Wen Jin changed into a dress and followed Liu Fang out of the room nervously. She sensed Chen Yong and Wang Yingcheng, the male betas, staring at her, which made her feel deeply uncomfortable.
Wen Hengqiu, in a rare good mood, waved at Wen Jin and smiled, patting the seat beside him to signal her to sit down.
Wen Jin, clearly afraid of her father, sat awkwardly on the far side of the sofa. A wide gap separated them, like an uncrossable chasm.
Wen Hengqiu didn’t mind Wen Jin’s attitude much. He leaned back casually on the sofa, glanced at her, and smiled as he spoke, “Little Jin, Daddy found you a very good wife. Her name is Shen Hanzhi. Your Aunt Liu probably told you, right? You two will marry next week.”
Wen Jin nodded slightly and looked at her father timidly.
Seeing her like this, Wen Hengqiu’s expression turned slightly displeased. Would her behavior anger Shen Hanzhi on the first day after the marriage?
“Little Jin, after you marry, you must listen to Shen Hanzhi. If there’s any conflict, apologize quickly, understand? Oh, and don’t forget to speak well of our Wen Corporation in front of Shen Hanzhi. Our family isn’t what it used to be. If Shen Hanzhi can help our family in the future, Daddy will really thank you.”
Wen Hengqiu spoke with a kind fatherly demeanor, giving her these instructions. If Wen Jin didn’t know her father disliked her, she might have been fooled by his act.
She hadn’t learned many things, but she could tell who treated her well and genuinely cared for her. Still, she didn’t dare show it.
Wen Jin clutched her hands tightly together and nodded lightly, saying, “I will.”
Wen Hengqiu smiled at this. “Good. I’ll have a tailor come later to make you some new clothes. The ones you have now look too shabby. Rest well this week.”
“Okay,” Wen Jin replied, her eyelashes fluttering slightly. She felt her back damp with sweat. She greatly feared Wen Hengqiu and her stepmother, Wu Yan.
She still remembered her childhood, when she had half a day each week to leave the attic and play in the manor. Once, she accidentally knocked over her sister’s fruit platter. In a panic, she desperately apologized to her sister.
“Sister, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. Please don’t be mad,” four-year-old Wen Jin pleaded with Wen Xin, who was two years older.
Wen Xin, crying, pushed her away and ran off to tattle. “Mom, that little bastard knocked over my fruit platter! I don’t want to see that little bastard again!” she sobbed.
“Little bastard” was what Wen Jin’s stepmother, Wu Yan, called her. Wu Yan never treated her like a person. Seeing Wen Jin upset her daughter, Wu Yan scolded harshly, “Little bastard, letting you out to play half a day each week is too good for you. Do you really think you’re the third miss of the Wen family? You and your mother are worse than dogs, and you dare bully my daughter? Who gave you the nerve?”
“Mommy, I was wrong. I’m sorry. I apologized to Sister,” four-year-old Wen Jin said, realizing this mother didn’t like her. Her small hands clenched tightly as she cried and apologized. Usually, only Liu Fang cared for her. When Liu Fang was off, Wen Jin went hungry. Little Wen Jin feared she’d have no food again.
“What’s the use of apologizing? You made my daughter cry! Hengqiu, what do you say?” Wu Yan demanded, glaring at her husband.
Wen Hengqiu glanced at Wen Jin and smiled indifferently. This daughter was an accident. During a business trip, he met a naive college girl. She was easy to deceive, and he slept with her for two months. When he returned to Nandu City, he deleted her contact information.
Who would’ve thought that over two years later, that stubborn woman not only gave birth to the child but brought her to Nandu City to find him?
He gave the woman some money to send her away, but she refused it.
Later, he didn’t know what happened—perhaps childbirth was too taxing—but the woman fell ill and, before dying, brought the not-yet-two-year-old Wen Jin to the Wen family villa.
Wen Hengqiu took young Wen Jin for a paternity test, confirmed she was his daughter, but due to his wife’s dominance, sent the two-year-old to live in Rose Manor.
At first, the two-year-old Wen Jin received some care from the servants. But soon, the mistress ordered everyone not to bother with her, saying as long as she didn’t starve, it was enough. They shouldn’t treat her as the third miss, just as another dog to feed.
Seeing his wife’s stubbornness, Wen Hengqiu looked at Wen Jin and frowned. “So ill-mannered. From now on, stay in your room and don’t come out,” he said.
“That’s all the punishment?” Wu Yan pressed, unwilling to let it go.
Wen Hengqiu sipped his wine glass and smiled helplessly at his wife. “What do you suggest, then? I’ll do whatever you say, my dear wife.”
“Where’s the butler? This little bastard doesn’t understand human words. Go to the backyard, find a dog cage, and lock her in for the night. Let her out in the morning,” Wu Yan said, looking at Wen Jin with contempt as she instructed the butler.
“Yes, Madam. I’ll take the third miss there now,” the butler replied.
“Wait,” Wu Yan stopped him, thought for a moment, and added, “Put the little bastard’s cage among the black-backed dogs. No matter how much she cries, don’t let her out until morning. Understood?”
“Yes, Madam,” the butler answered respectfully.
Little Wen Jin seemed to sense her grim fate. She cried, begging her father and mother not to be angry. Her small hands trembled uncontrollably from fear.
“No, Mommy, I know I was wrong. Daddy, I really didn’t mean it. Sister, I’m sorry…” Wen Jin kept apologizing, but no one paid her any attention.
The butler dragged her to the dog kennels in the backyard. The manor was large, and the backyard housed many large dogs like black-backs and wolfhounds. Seeing a stranger, the dogs barked incessantly.
Little Wen Jin had never seen such a scene and nearly fainted from fear. The butler, unmoved, had a servant drive out one of the black-backs and shoved tiny Wen Jin into the empty dog cage.
The next moment, the aggressive dogs around her clawed at their cages, barking wildly at her. Little Wen Jin, terrified beyond reason, cried herself unconscious. No one cared.
Only at dawn did Liu Fang, crying, carry Wen Jin back. The tiny girl burned with fever, barely clinging to life.
When Wen Jin snapped back to the present, her eyes were red. The memory of that childhood experience overwhelmed her. Feeling helpless, she returned to her room.
Would her future wife hate her like her father and stepmother did? The girl curled up on her bed, terrified and uneasy. Though it was summer, she felt a chilling cold throughout her body.
