After Transmigrating Into a Book, I Was Forced to Play the Role of a Scumbag Alpha (GL) - Chapter 23
Chapter 23
“What’s with all the crying? It’s President Shen’s first visit, and you’re acting like this. People might think we mistreated you.” Wu Yan couldn’t hold back and chimed in with a few words.
Shen Hanzhi glared over, her voice growing colder. “What? Are you trying to drive us away? Little Jin is my wife. You’d better speak with some respect.”
Wen Hengqiu didn’t expect Shen Hanzhi to show no courtesy and speak to elders like that. He stood awkwardly, unsure of what to say. Wu Yan also didn’t anticipate Shen Hanzhi’s response and was momentarily at a loss for words.
Wen Xin, however, had been fed up for a while. The family had been busy all morning preparing for Shen Hanzhi’s visit. They didn’t have much money, yet they spent it all on fresh seafood for Shen Hanzhi and her group. They even went out of their way to have the whole family wait outside the villa to greet them. Wen Xin was furious.
Her chest heaved as she shouted at Shen Hanzhi, “Shen Hanzhi, that’s enough. You’re married to Wen Jin, so you’re a junior. How dare a junior talk to elders like that? Apologize to my parents now.”
Hearing his daughter’s words, Wen Hengqiu sighed in relief. Someone finally gave him a way to save face.
He quickly followed up, frowning at Wen Xin before giving Shen Hanzhi a slightly apologetic smile. “Hanzhi, Wen Xin is spoiled and doesn’t know better. Don’t mind her. She’s just hot-tempered but has a good heart. It’s my fault too for acting like a parent right away and scaring Little Jin.”
Then he hurriedly smiled at Wen Jin. “Little Jin, your mom and I spoke too harshly just now. Don’t mind us. We’re just concerned for your well-being.”
Shen Hanzhi noticed the little girl still trembling slightly and laughed in anger at Wen Hengqiu. “This is your idea of concern? Why do I feel Little Jin didn’t have a good life here? It seems you two bullied my Little Jin quite a bit, didn’t you?”
“Hanzhi, how can you say that? Little Jin is my daughter. How could I treat her badly? Otherwise, I wouldn’t have let her live in Rose Manor. You saw when you came in how beautiful and livable this place is.” Wen Hengqiu quickly defended himself.
“Is that so? I heard you never valued Little Jin, and it seems Madam Wu isn’t her biological mother. Little Jin suffered a lot here.” Shen Hanzhi’s tone was calm, her gaze sweeping over Wen Hengqiu and Wu Yan. Their expressions varied, but she could see panic in their eyes.
“That’s just gossip. Little Jin’s biological mother isn’t Wu Yan, so I let her live here. There are only servants here, no stepmother to control her, so she could grow up happily.” Wen Hengqiu continued to argue.
“Really? That’s strange. I’ve never heard of a father locking his daughter in an attic for over a decade, not letting her out, or denying her an education. President Wen, care to explain?” Shen Hanzhi’s gaze at Wen Hengqiu carried a hint of mockery.
Wen Hengqiu couldn’t keep up the act anymore. Shen Hanzhi clearly wasn’t giving him any leeway. He gritted his teeth and lowered his stance. “President Shen, I admit I neglected Little Jin before. She’s my illegitimate daughter, after all. Raising her at the city center villa would’ve hurt the Wen family’s reputation, so I kept her here. I didn’t hire a teacher for her education, but I did raise her to this age. I am her biological father.”
Shen Hanzhi shook her head with a wry smile. “Biological father? A father like that makes no difference. And as for Madam Wu, if the Wen family goes bankrupt, even stray dogs might come after you.”
Shen Hanzhi’s smile faded as she scanned the group. “Alright, we won’t eat. Little Jin and I have no appetite for your food. We’ll leave now. Coming here counts as the return visit anyway.”
“Oh, by the way, President Wen, that five million is almost spent, right? If you’re in trouble, feel free to come to me.” Shen Hanzhi gave Wen Hengqiu a sincere smile.
Seeing Shen Hanzhi’s words, Wen Hengqiu quickly responded, as if afraid she’d take them back. “Hanzhi, I knew you wouldn’t abandon us. I’m Little Jin’s father, after all. Bl00d ties are undeniable. You wouldn’t refuse to help us. I won’t hide it—the Wen Group is facing some internal issues. Hanzhi, if you can help, I’ll repay you as soon as possible.”
Shen Hanzhi smiled at Wen Hengqiu. “President Wen, I think you misunderstood. I’m not lending you money. I think Rose Manor is nice. If the Wen Group can’t manage, you could sell Rose Manor to me.”
“You want me to sell the land to you?” Wen Hengqiu’s arm veins bulged.
“President Wen, calm down. I’m just stating facts. The Wen Group has been hollowed out. I heard several subsidiaries are under tax audits. Paying back taxes will cost a fortune. In the Wen Group’s current state, no one will lend you money, right? Think it over. Little Jin and I need to go home. President Wen, see you.” Shen Hanzhi said with a smile, feeling refreshed.
The little girl listened, half-understanding, but got the gist. The Wen family seemed out of money and wanted to borrow from Sister, which explained why Wen Hengqiu and Wu Yan were so submissive.
Wen Jin felt slightly relieved. Her gaze swept the hall, and she quietly tugged at Shen Hanzhi’s dress hem.
Seeing the little girl pull at her, Shen Hanzhi lowered her eyes, her expression full of gentleness. “What’s wrong?”
“Sister, why isn’t Aunt Liu here?” The little girl mumbled softly.
Seeing Wen Hengqiu’s bad expression and not daring to offend Shen Hanzhi, Wu Yan explained, “Liu Fang took leave today and isn’t here.”
It wasn’t that Liu Fang took leave. Wen Hengqiu and Wu Yan feared she’d say something reckless, so they deliberately gave her the day off. But Wen Hengqiu didn’t expect Shen Hanzhi to investigate the Wen family for Wen Jin. He thought Shen Hanzhi would dote on Wen Jin briefly before casting her aside, so he planned to scam more investments from Shen Hanzhi.
“Alright, since she’s not here, we’re leaving.” Shen Hanzhi said, calling Zhang Hao to have the bodyguards wait outside.
Shen Hanzhi held Wen Jin and left the villa’s hall. Only after they were out did the little girl relax slightly. The villa gave her an oppressive feeling, like she couldn’t breathe. Fortunately, she had Sister now. It was a pity she didn’t see Aunt Liu. She couldn’t read and didn’t have Aunt Liu’s phone number.
