After Transmigrating Into a Book, I Was Forced to Play the Role of a Scumbag Alpha (GL) - Chapter 28
Chapter 28
Since she slept early the previous day, the little girl woke up early the next morning. When she finished washing up and went to find Shen Hanzhi, Shen Hanzhi had just gotten up.
Seeing the little rabbit peeking at the door, Shen Hanzhi waved to the little girl. “Come in and sit. I’ll wash up. Why did you wake up so early today?”
“I’m not very sleepy. I want to keep practicing writing my name.” The little girl, having not seen Shen Hanzhi all night, wished she could cling to Shen Hanzhi’s arms right then.
“Okay, we’ll review your name later and also teach you the numbers one to ten.” Shen Hanzhi smiled as she spoke.
The secretary matter still needed time to investigate, so there was no rush. Shen Hanzhi didn’t plan to go to the company for a few days. The little girl had just come from Rose Manor and lacked a sense of security. Shen Hanzhi decided to stay home to keep her company and teach her some basic things.
When Shen Hanzhi came out, she saw the little girl sitting obediently on the bed, waiting for her.
Shen Hanzhi’s eyes curved slightly. She waved to the little rabbit, and the next moment, the little rabbit threw herself into Shen Hanzhi’s arms.
Shen Hanzhi’s smile widened. The little white rabbit trusted her more now, spoke much better than when they first met, and was no longer timid.
Shen Hanzhi led the little rabbit downstairs for breakfast. After eating, they went to the study together. Shen Hanzhi first had the little girl review the characters taught yesterday, then explained the Arabic numerals one to ten one by one and taught her addition and subtraction.
As an adult, Wen Jin’s comprehension level was beyond that of a child. She quickly learned the numbers one to ten and, by morning, mastered addition and subtraction proficiently.
Shen Hanzhi planned to teach the little girl five basic characters in the afternoon and have her practice mental math cards.
Meanwhile, Liu Fang went to Rose Manor early to pack her things. Wang Yingcheng and two others packed while grumbling.
“They fired us just like that. The Wen family is really something,” one said.
“Exactly. Where are we supposed to find jobs on such short notice? I’m definitely not doing housekeeping,” Zhang Ju added.
“Tell me about it. But we’re not the worst off. Liu Fang has a foolish daughter and hasn’t said a word,” Chen Yong said deliberately as Liu Fang entered.
Since she had secured a job, Liu Fang didn’t lose her composure or beg the butler, which made the others curious.
“Hey, Liu Fang, you got fired and aren’t begging the butler? I heard private special education schools cost a fortune. Can you still afford your daughter’s tuition?” Wang Yingcheng smirked, as if others’ misery made him happy.
Liu Fang glanced at Wang Yingcheng but didn’t respond. These people weren’t good, and she rarely spoke to them anyway.
Liu Fang quickly rolled up her bedding, tied it with rope, and packed all her things from the metal cabinet into a large backpack, busying herself.
Seeing her stay silent, Wang Yingcheng felt embarrassed and raised his mocking voice. “No wonder you’re Wen Jin’s person. With a foolish daughter at home and looking after that fool Wen Jin at Rose Manor, you’re destined to be with fools. How’s Wen Jin doing now? I heard Shen Hanzhi acts one way in public and another in private. Has that fool been tortured to death yet?”
“Wang Yingcheng, watch your mouth. Little Jin has no grudge against you. Why curse her like that?” Liu Fang, unable to stand hearing Wen Jin insulted, gripped her packed items and questioned him.
“Curse her? Does she need it? Everyone in Nandu City knows what kind of person Shen Hanzhi is. Only a country bumpkin like you wouldn’t,” Wang Yingcheng said reluctantly as he packed.
Liu Fang’s heart sank as she listened. Could Wang Yingcheng and the others be telling the truth? If Little Jin was suffering, what could a poor servant like her do?
Liu Fang wiped tears from her face, hiding them from Wang Yingcheng and the others. She carried her bedding and left the staff dormitory. Outside was her second-hand electric scooter, bought from someone replacing theirs. It worked fine except for a less durable battery.
Inside, Wang Yingcheng and the others, seeing her leave, teamed up with a few servants to confront the butler, feeling their one-month salary was too little.
After returning home, Liu Fang washed her bedsheets and covers but felt uneasy, constantly worrying about Wen Jin’s well-being.
She hung the bedding to dry, checked the address Shen Hanzhi sent her yesterday on her phone, hesitated for a moment, then gritted her teeth and rode her second-hand scooter toward Shen Hanzhi’s villa.
At the villa gate, security guards stopped her. A thirty-year-old man said, “Only residents can enter.”
“I’m the new servant hired by President Shen, Shen Hanzhi.” Liu Fang quickly explained, feeling uneasy as she looked at the villa area.
“Okay, wait a moment. I’ll call President Shen to verify.” The guard quickly made the call. Yang Man answered, as Shen Hanzhi had told her about hiring a new aunt to care for Wen Jin, so Yang Man knew.
Yang Man confirmed with the guard that the visitor was Liu Fang, and the guard let her pass. Liu Fang rode her scooter further in, finally finding Shen Hanzhi’s courtyard.
The downtown villa with a courtyard was even grander than the Wen family’s old house. Liu Fang, pushing her second-hand scooter, felt even more uncertain.
Zhang Ju, seeing someone lingering at the gate on the room’s surveillance, hurried out and called from a distance, “What are you doing?”
Liu Fang, intimidated by Zhang Ju’s sturdy build, stepped back nervously and stammered, “I’m the new servant hired by President Shen. My name is Liu Fang.”
Zhang Ju nodded, his expression softening. “Park the scooter in the yard. President Shen and Miss Wen are probably still napping. Wait in the living room.”
“Okay, thank you.” Liu Fang forced a smile.
Seeing her nervousness, Zhang Ju led her to the living room, pulled out a chair, and said, “Sit here for a bit. I’ll check with President Shen when she wakes up.”
“Okay, thank you. What’s your name?” Liu Fang felt embarrassed and nervous, thinking she was too abrupt coming at noon.
“Oh, I’m Zhang Ju, the villa’s bodyguard.” Zhang Ju brought her in and returned to his room.
The villa area’s walls and the living room had surveillance cameras to prevent intruders. The monitors were in Zhang Ju’s room.
Liu Fang looked at the villa’s style, more luxurious than the Wen family’s old house. Staring at the empty first floor, she worried. Could Little Jin get used to this environment? Was she really doing okay?
Meanwhile, Shen Hanzhi and Wen Jin napped for a while. Around two o’clock, Shen Hanzhi took the little girl to the study. The afternoon focused on having the little girl practice mental math cards. Since she learned one to ten, the rest came easily. With an adult’s thinking system, Wen Jin, despite no prior exposure, learned quickly once introduced, even solving problems faster.
Around three o’clock, Zhang Ju figured Shen Hanzhi and Wen Jin were awake. Seeing Liu Fang still sitting awkwardly in the living room, he said, “I’ll go see President Shen now. Wait a bit longer.”
Liu Fang stood quickly. “Okay, thank you.”
Zhang Ju went to the second floor, knocked on Shen Hanzhi’s study door, and heard “Come in” from inside before turning the handle to open it.
He didn’t enter but spoke at the door. “President Shen, your new servant has arrived and is waiting downstairs. Would you like to meet her?”
Wen Jin’s ears perked up at the mention of a new servant. Her eyes sparkled as she looked at Shen Hanzhi. “Sister, is Aunt Liu here?”
Shen Hanzhi smiled and nodded. “Probably.”
The next moment, the little girl stood from her seat and ran downstairs.
Shen Hanzhi shook her head with a smile and said to Zhang Ju, “Alright, go about your work.”
She then quickly followed Wen Jin downstairs.
Wen Jin saw Aunt Liu sitting on a chair in the living room and happily ran over. “Aunt Liu!”
Aunt Liu saw Wen Jin, her eyes reddening. Having cared for Wen Jin for years, she treated her like her own child.
“Slow down. How have you been these past few days?” Aunt Liu looked Wen Jin up and down, relieved to see her exposed skin still fair.
“I’m doing great, Aunt Liu. Have you finished your business?” Wen Jin asked with a smile.
“Yes, the Wen family fired all the servants at Rose Manor. They might sell it.” Aunt Liu explained.
Seeing Shen Hanzhi come down, she quickly added nervously, “Thanks to President Shen. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have found a job so soon. Thank you, President Shen.”
Shen Hanzhi shook her head with a smile. “It’s nothing. Little Jin just came from Rose Manor and needs someone close to care for her. Aunt Liu, I’ll trouble you from now on.”
“No trouble, no trouble,” Liu Fang said quickly.
“Little Jin, you talk with Aunt Liu. I won’t disturb you.” Shen Hanzhi, worried Liu Fang might feel uneasy around her since they hadn’t met before, said this.
“Okay, Sister.” The little girl smiled and winked at Shen Hanzhi.
When only Liu Fang and Wen Jin remained in the living room, Liu Fang dared to ask, “Little Jin, are you really doing okay here? How does Shen Hanzhi treat you?”
“Sister treats me very well. She bought me lots of clothes and has been teaching me to write. I can write my name now.” The little girl smiled as she spoke.
Seeing the genuine smile in Wen Jin’s eyes, Liu Fang relaxed slightly. “That’s good. As long as you’re not suffering.”
“I won’t suffer. Sister is very nice.” The little girl’s eyes curved as she thought of Shen Hanzhi. She then said to Liu Fang, “Aunt Liu, let me show you my room.”
“Okay.” Liu Fang nodded and followed Wen Jin to the second floor.
The little girl opened her room’s door and went in with Liu Fang. “I’ve been living here since I came. Sister lives next door.”
Liu Fang looked at the room’s furnishings. It was spacious, fully furnished, with two large floor-to-ceiling windows. Why didn’t Shen Hanzhi live in such a big room? Did she dislike Little Jin, or was there another reason?
