After Transmigrating Into a Book, I Was Forced to Play the Role of a Scumbag Alpha (GL) - Chapter 4
Chapter 4
The wedding ceremony dragged on with lengthy procedures. Shen Hanzhi held Wen Jin’s hand as they stepped down from the platform. Many guests approached Shen Hanzhi to chat and offer congratulations. Shen Hanzhi declined most conversations, citing poor health, and guided the somewhat overwhelmed Wen Jin into the rest room.
As soon as Shen Hanzhi brought her inside, Wen Kai, holding a wine glass, sneered at Wen Xin across from him.
“Did you see? That lustful beast couldn’t wait. The guests are still here, and she’s already eager. Guess what that little bastard will look like when she comes out, all ravaged?” Wen Kai said, glancing contemptuously at the door.
“Who cares? At least we got rid of a nuisance. Every time I vacationed at Rose Manor, knowing that little bastard lived there made me sick. Now, whether she’s tortured to death or ravaged to death, as long as she’s not in my sight, I’m fine,” Wen Xin said, her brows furrowed. Her elegant smile had long vanished.
After speaking, she took a few breaths to calm herself and resumed her poised, graceful eldest-miss demeanor.
“True. That illegitimate daughter is a shame to our Wen family. We should thank Shen Hanzhi for this,” Wen Kai said, his face flushed as he downed most of his glass.
The wine at Shen Hanzhi’s wedding was top-notch. Wen Kai used to drink such wines, but recently, the company faced mounting issues, including a broken funding chain. His monthly allowance dwindled, and he overheard his father and assistant discussing selling Rose Manor to cover the shortfall.
Luckily, that little bastard was worth something. His father sold her for five million, which would keep the company afloat for a few more months.
Taking advantage of the free fine wine, Wen Kai drank another glass, already half-drunk. Thinking of Wen Jin’s appearance, he felt it was a pity Shen Hanzhi would ruin her. He should’ve had his fun with her first, since they didn’t share the same mother.
Inside the room with Shen Hanzhi, Wen Jin nervously clutched the hem of her wedding dress. Shen Hanzhi didn’t speak to her, so she didn’t dare sit down. Her heels burned with sharp pain.
Raised in the attic, she only wore cheap flat shoes or slippers, never high heels. A few days ago, the butler had her try on the wedding dress and made her wear these high heels. She had only seen Wen Xin wear such shoes and had never worn them herself.
The butler insisted she wear them for the wedding, citing social etiquette, and had Zhang Ju supervise her practice. When her feet got scraped, they put on bandages and made her continue.
If she slacked or wanted to rest due to pain, Zhang Ju mocked her cruelly.
“Oh, look at the third miss, so pampered. Just a little scraped skin, and you’re making a fuss?” Zhang Ju sneered.
“Look at your walking. Worse than a cripple. Honestly, an illegitimate daughter is just an illegitimate daughter,” she taunted.
“Don’t give me that pitiful look. I’m a beta. I’m not interested in you,” she scoffed.
“With your attitude, you’ll only annoy people after marriage. As if Miss Shen would like you,” she mocked.
“Don’t pretend. No one’s coddling you here. Walk faster,” she ordered.
Wen Jin’s eyes reddened. Those memories stung her bit by bit. The wounds on her heels hadn’t healed, and wearing ill-fitting high heels for so long today caused piercing pain to shoot from her feet. She could barely hold on.
She clenched her teeth desperately to steady herself. She didn’t want Sister to dislike her or see disgust in her eyes.
Shen Hanzhi’s mind was in chaos. She transmigrated so suddenly, thrust into the wedding scene without time to think. She couldn’t match faces to the people who approached her earlier and brushed them off with excuses of feeling unwell.
Shen Hanzhi sighed. Turning around, she saw the girl standing timidly in the corner, looking at her like a pitiful little thing.
Shen Hanzhi’s heart softened inexplicably. The girl before her seemed like an obedient little white rabbit.
She quickly walked over and noticed Wen Jin’s eyes were red, as if she might cry any second.
Having skimmed the original book, Shen Hanzhi knew Wen Jin had a tough life at the Wen household. She softened her tone and asked gently, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Why do you look like you’re about to cry?”
Wen Jin flinched at Shen Hanzhi’s voice, her eyelashes fluttering. She glanced at Shen Hanzhi fearfully, her voice trembling with a sob. “Sister, please don’t be mad. I didn’t mean it. Please don’t be angry,” she said.
Seeing the girl’s distress, Shen Hanzhi pulled her into a gentle embrace and spoke even softer. “I’m not angry. Little Jin is so good. How could I be angry? Tell me what’s wrong, okay?” she said.
The woman’s gentle voice comforted Wen Jin. Growing up, only Aunt Liu spoke to her so kindly.
Wen Jin’s raven-feather eyelashes fluttered. She cautiously looked up at Shen Hanzhi, confirming no disgust in her gaze, and boldly spoke. “Sister, my feet hurt a little. Can I sit and rest for a bit? I’m not trying to be lazy. Please don’t be mad, okay?” she said.
Her voice trembled with fear, showing how scared she was.
Shen Hanzhi thought it was a big deal, but it was just resting for a moment. She wasn’t a tyrant. Why wouldn’t she let the girl rest?
“Of course you can. Sit and rest,” Shen Hanzhi said, leading the girl to the rest room’s sofa.
As soon as Shen Hanzhi stepped forward, she heard Wen Jin gasp softly, sweat beading on her forehead.
Shen Hanzhi sensed something was off. Just being tired shouldn’t hurt this much, right?
Seeing Wen Jin struggle to walk, Shen Hanzhi didn’t hesitate. She slipped one arm around the girl’s waist and the other under her knees, lifting her horizontally into her arms.
Wen Jin didn’t expect Shen Hanzhi to carry her. Her hands nervously hooked around Shen Hanzhi’s neck. “Sister?” she said.
“Your feet hurt, don’t they? I’ll carry you over,” Shen Hanzhi said. An alpha’s strength was impressive. Though slender and tall, Shen Hanzhi carried Wen Jin effortlessly. Or perhaps the little rabbit in her arms was too thin?
Hearing Shen Hanzhi’s words, Wen Jin froze. Even when Shen Hanzhi set her on the sofa, she still stared at her, forgetting to release her arms around Shen Hanzhi’s neck.
Seeing the girl in a daze, Shen Hanzhi teased with a smile, “What, haven’t had enough of being held?”
Wen Jin snapped out of it, feeling her arms, which had touched Shen Hanzhi, burn. Her ears turned bright red.
