After Transmigrating Into a Book, I Was Forced to Play the Role of a Scumbag Alpha (GL) - Chapter 8
Chapter 8
The little girl had never worn a silk nightgown before. She felt the nightgown was cool against her skin, which seemed strange, and it exposed too much of her shoulders, making her feel shy.
After she changed into the nightgown, she called out softly, “Sister, I’m done changing.”
Shen Hanzhi turned to look at the little girl and said gently, “Good, let’s go to the bathroom to wash up.”
As she spoke, Shen Hanzhi picked up the little girl again. Both were wearing thin nightgowns, so their bodies inevitably touched. The little girl felt scared and could only wrap her arms around Shen Hanzhi’s neck.
Shen Hanzhi set the shy little white rabbit down and smiled, “Everything here is new. You can use anything freely. This is foaming cleanser, and the rest are toners, lotions, and creams for your face.”
The little girl looked at the array of items before her, feeling overwhelmed. In the attic, she only used simple children’s cream that Aunt Liu brought her. She had never used something like a cleanser before.
The little girl’s heart, which had just been excited, sank bit by bit. Sister explained so much, but she still did not understand what these things were for. Would Sister dislike her or think she was a nuisance?
Shen Hanzhi noticed something was wrong. The little rabbit was fine when she carried her in, so why did she look like she was about to cry now?
Shen Hanzhi quickly pulled the little girl into her arms and asked softly, “What’s wrong, Little Jin? Just tell me if there’s a problem, and I’ll help you solve it.”
The little girl sniffled, afraid of truly annoying Shen Hanzhi, and whimpered softly, “Wife, I’m really not a fool. I’ve never seen these things before and don’t know how to use them. I’m really not stupid, Wife, please believe me.”
The little girl watched Shen Hanzhi’s face while whimpering, her cries coming in fits and starts, making Shen Hanzhi’s heart ache.
The little rabbit had suffered too much, hadn’t she?
She gently patted the little girl’s back and comforted her softly, “Of course I know you’re not a fool. I was thoughtless. I should teach you how to use them one by one. Don’t cry, okay? Sister will teach you.”
Wen Jin sniffled, looked at Shen Hanzhi’s face with red eyes, and confirmed Shen Hanzhi was not angry. She nodded cautiously, “Thank you, Sister. I’ll learn quickly. Aunt Liu always said I’m smart.”
“Good, you’re the smartest. Let’s start now,” Shen Hanzhi said, pulling a few tissues from a nearby box and carefully wiping the tears from the little girl’s face.
She then stood up and began explaining how to use the products, “This cleanser is already foamy inside. You just press it like this to get some out, gently apply it to your face, and rinse it off with water. Isn’t that easy?”
The little girl nodded, listening attentively.
Shen Hanzhi continued, “I’ve separated the toner, lotion, and cream. The ones on the left are toners, the ones in the middle are lotions, and the small bottles on the right are creams. After washing your face, just apply some. But since you’re wearing makeup now, I’ll help you remove it.”
Shen Hanzhi used a makeup remover wipe to take off the little girl’s eye makeup first, then used a cotton pad to remove the foundation and other makeup from her face, and finally removed the lip makeup. After taking off the little white rabbit’s makeup, Shen Hanzhi looked at her skin. It was still smooth and fair; the makeup had actually dulled her beauty.
“Okay, now you can wash your face,” Shen Hanzhi said with a smile, planning to leave once the little girl was settled in bed.
The little girl obediently mimicked her, washing her face and applying a few skincare products. Her eyes occasionally glanced at the labels, filled with dimness. She could not read a single word.
Shen Hanzhi did not know what the little girl was thinking. Seeing she had washed her face, Shen Hanzhi took a towel and wet it with warm water, “Use this to wipe your feet. The wounds on your heels haven’t scabbed yet, so don’t get them wet.”
“Thank you,” the little girl said.
While sitting on a small stool, she carefully wiped her feet clean, then washed the towel and put it back neatly. After finishing, she looked at Shen Hanzhi with bright eyes, as if proving she had not lied.
Shen Hanzhi looked at the little girl, a smile crossing her lips, and comforted her, “I know you’re great. Your family before wasn’t good and didn’t teach you many things. But now that we’re married, I’m your family. Whatever you don’t know, I’ll teach you. We’ll take it slowly.”
Shen Hanzhi stepped closer to the little girl, who trembled nervously and simply closed her eyes.
Why was Sister so close? Was she going to kiss her? The little girl’s heart raced, her eyelashes trembling like tiny brushes, but she remembered Aunt Liu’s advice and stood still, not daring to move.
The next moment, she felt her body lift. The kiss she imagined did not come; instead, Sister lifted her into her arms again.
The little girl secretly opened one eye to check Shen Hanzhi’s expression and met her smiling eyes.
Shen Hanzhi chuckled, playfully jostling the little girl in her arms, and teased, “Why did you close your eyes just now? Were you so sleepy you wanted to sleep in the bathroom?”
The little rabbit thought of how she was expecting a kiss, blushed, and buried her face in Shen Hanzhi’s shoulder, not daring to look at her expression. She mumbled softly, “I’m a bit sleepy.”
She could not admit she closed her eyes waiting for Sister to kiss her, the little girl thought, her ears red.
“Okay, if you’re sleepy, sleep early. You must be exhausted today,” Shen Hanzhi said, her heart aching as she thought of the wounds on the little girl’s heels. Wen Jin had done nothing wrong, yet the Wen family treated her that way, even selling her like a commodity to the original body’s trashy self.
Shen Hanzhi carried the little girl back to the bed in a few steps, laid her down, and covered her with the blanket. She said gently, “If you get thirsty at night, there’s water in the teapot in the living room. The button by the bed controls the bedside lamp, and one press turns on the room’s main light. If anything happens, come to the next room and call me. I’m sleeping right next door.”
The little girl listened, a bit confused, but caught the main point. Afraid Shen Hanzhi would leave, she grabbed her wrist anxiously, her tone clearly uneasy, “Sister, aren’t you sleeping with me?”
Shen Hanzhi was used to sleeping alone and thought the little girl might feel nervous sleeping together, so she said simply, “No, I’ll sleep next door.”
“But Aunt Liu said that after marriage, you sleep with your wife,” the little girl said seriously, looking at Shen Hanzhi and arguing her case.
Shen Hanzhi chuckled and began explaining, “Little Jin, we haven’t known each other long. Sleeping together so suddenly might feel uncomfortable and could cause insomnia. I have work during the day, so I need to sleep well. After some time, when we’re both used to each other, we can sleep together, okay?”
Wen Jin’s eyes darted around, feeling something was off with Sister’s words, like she was making excuses. But with her limited knowledge, she could not find a way to argue back. Still, she looked at Shen Hanzhi and asked, “Sister, do you dislike me and not want to sleep with me?”
Shen Hanzhi reached out to pat the little girl’s head and coaxed her softly, “How could I? If I disliked you, why would I have carried you? You’re my little wife. Sleep well and don’t overthink. Starting tomorrow, I’ll teach you how to use things at home and teach you to read.”
The little girl took the bait. Hearing about reading, her eyes lit up, and she gripped Shen Hanzhi’s wrist tighter, “Can I? I’m already nineteen. Can I still learn to read? Isn’t it too late?”
Her voice trembled as she spoke, and Shen Hanzhi patted the back of her hand, comforting her, “Of course you can. As long as you study hard, it’s never too late. My Little Jin is so smart; you’ll definitely learn lots of words quickly.”
The little girl was charmed by Shen Hanzhi’s “my Little Jin,” forgetting to dwell on Shen Hanzhi not sleeping with her.
She looked at Shen Hanzhi shyly, her eyes filled with unease, “Sister, if I learn slowly, will you think I’m dumb?”
She still remembered at Rose Manor, not only did her brother and sister mock her as an illiterate fool, but even the servants’ children looked down on her, calling her uneducated. Wen Jin heard these words growing up and thought she would grow numb to them, but every time they were said, her heart hurt.
Shen Hanzhi seemed nice to her, at least today. She did not want to hear those cruel words from Shen Hanzhi’s mouth, so she felt some fear.
“No, if you learn slowly, we’ll take it slowly. You can’t eat hot tofu if you’re impatient. I’ll learn with you, and we’ll get there. We have plenty of time, so don’t overthink. Sleep early, and tomorrow morning, I’ll have Auntie make you something delicious,” Shen Hanzhi said, pinching the little girl’s fair hand and soothing her gently.
The little girl finally let go of her hand. Shen Hanzhi, now free, worried the little girl might kick off her blanket at night and pulled the summer quilt up a bit, fully embracing the role of a worrying mother.
The little girl watched Shen Hanzhi tuck her in, pulled the quilt up further to cover most of her face, and smiled behind it. This was only the second time someone had tucked her in, besides Aunt Liu. She felt overwhelmed with joy.
Seeing the little girl settled, Shen Hanzhi said softly, “Goodnight, I’m going to rest too.”
The little girl, covering most of her face, said nothing, so Shen Hanzhi did not say more. She turned off the room’s main light and started to leave.
Before she reached the door, she heard the little rabbit’s soft, sweet voice behind her, “Sister, goodnight.”
Shen Hanzhi turned to look at the little rabbit, almost entirely buried in the quilt, and smiled, “Don’t overthink, sleep early. I’m really leaving.”
Shen Hanzhi closed the door for the little girl.
The little girl then showed her face, looking toward the door. She rolled around in the soft quilt.
Sister said they were not familiar yet, so that meant when they were, Sister would move in to sleep with her and, as Aunt Liu said, hug her and kiss her. Thinking of this, the little girl blushed and buried herself in the pillow.
What should she do? She was actually looking forward to the gentle Sister kissing her. The little rabbit turned red all over and could not bring herself to show her face for a while.
