- Chapter 1 - Transmigrating into a Book
Li Chu never thought she’d encounter something like transmigrating into a book.
At this very moment, she stared blankly at the glass of water in her hand, her pupils dilated in shock.
Before the car accident, Li Chu had just finished reading an ABO romance novel.
It was her first time reading this genre. The primary genders of humans were no longer male and female, but Alpha, Beta, and Omega.
Alphas and Omegas made up a small percentage of the total population. They were drawn to each other by pheromones. Betas had no pheromones and couldn’t smell them, essentially making them regular people.
Intrigued, she clicked it open, only to discover that the villainess in the first chapter, who feigned reconciliation but actually drugged the female lead to take compromising photos, shared her exact name.
This villainess occupied a very small part of the text, about three or four hundred characters at the beginning of the first chapter, after which the main plot began. Li Chu had ignored it and continued reading. She even left a playful comment under the first chapter, mentioning that the villainess had the same name as her.
Someone replied underneath, saying, “I suggest you immediately read and memorize the full text to avoid transmigrating into the book.”
Li Chu had responded with a “Hahahahaha” then, but now she just wanted to scream, “Sister, take back your magic!”
[The ornate crystal chandelier reflected off her pale face, and she knew what kind of future awaited her.]
This was the original text’s description of the villainess after her scheme failed, but Li Chu felt it vividly described her current situation.
Save me! Why did she have to transmigrate?! Why was it a death-trap start?!
Li Chu’s hand, holding the water glass, trembled slightly. She forced herself to look up at the woman standing before her, and when she saw her face clearly, her breath hitched.
Ning Manqing was truly worthy of being the female protagonist of this novel, a woman later hailed as the “divine beauty” of the entertainment industry. Although she hadn’t differentiated yet, her beauty was enough for Li Chu to scream a hundred times internally.
Ning Manqing’s beauty was grand and radiant, with classical features and an elegant, noble aura, like a stunning, accomplished young lady from ancient poetry, a beauty carved from top-grade jade. Yet, beneath the serenity, there was an undeniable sharpness; her eyes seemed to pierce the soul.
Right now, those eyes were fixed on her, and her hand was reaching for the water glass in Li Chu’s hand.
“Wait.”
Li Chu couldn’t help but call out, stopping Ning Manqing’s hand in mid-air.
Li Chu knew that Ning Manqing was publicly a Beta, but after drinking this drugged water, she would be stimulated to differentiate into an Omega. Then, she would meet her perfect-match male lead and begin a life of success in both love and career.
She had no intention of interfering with the female lead’s romantic or career storylines, but the problem was: if the female lead drank this water, she, the villainess, would be finished, heading toward the miserable end described in the original text.
“What trick are you trying to pull?”
Ning Manqing looked at the woman, whose entire face screamed that something was wrong, her eyes filled with coldness.
First, Li Chu had invited her here, flattering her with words and offering resources, claiming to want forgiveness for her previous attitude and that drinking this water would bury the hatchet.
Yet, she held the water for a long time in silence and then blocked her just as she was about to reach for it. Ning Manqing couldn’t believe there wasn’t a hidden agenda.
“I… I just suddenly got a little thirsty. I’ll pour you another cup.”
Li Chu’s fingers gripped the glass’s rim unnaturally tightly. She knew Ning Manqing was suspicious.
The original owner was already on bad terms with Ning Manqing; the limited description suggested the original owner was intensely jealous of her. Ning Manqing wasn’t a magnanimous saint, either. Although Li Chu no longer planned to give Ning Manqing the drugged water, if Ning Manqing discovered the water’s oddity and the surveillance camera in the room, her fate would likely be no better than the original owner’s.
She couldn’t leave any evidence. Li Chu resolutely drank the remaining half cup of water, wiped the water from her lips, and poured Ning Manqing a fresh glass.
She feigned calm. Ning Manqing glanced at her, took the cup, but did not drink.
Li Chu didn’t care whether she drank or not. She had a plan: although she didn’t know the original owner’s gender, she just needed to get Ning Manqing out of here before the drug took effect, then call the original owner’s agent on the phone, destroy the camera and the cup during that interval, and once she dealt with her own physical situation at the hospital, she could perfectly sidestep this plot point.
After that, whatever happened to the female lead was none of her business. She’d avoid her—at worst, she’d just retire from the entertainment industry!
But the drug’s effect was faster than Li Chu had imagined. She squeezed the cup in her hand, lowered her head, and said to Ning Manqing, “Thank you for agreeing to meet today. I won’t walk you out. I need to use the restroom, so I probably can’t see you off.”
Li Chu finished speaking and rushed into the restroom without waiting for Ning Manqing’s reaction.
As soon as she stepped inside, her legs went weak, and she leaned against the washbasin. The cold marble offered some relief, and she managed to stand up straight.
Li Chu glanced at the mirror. When she saw the person reflected there, her eyes widened in astonishment, her expression frozen.
She didn’t know what the original owner looked like, but the face in the mirror was indeed identical to her own.
However, she couldn’t dwell on that now. She turned on the faucet and splashed cold water on her face. Droplets ran down her flushed cheeks, wetting the neckline of her summer dress.
Li Chu cursed the drug’s potency. She reached for her pocket only to realize the original owner’s phone wasn’t on her person.
Her legs were almost too weak to stand. A creeping heat surged up her spine and through her bl00d. She couldn’t help but clamp her legs together.
She was crying inside: I shouldn’t have drunk it just now! I should have pretended to drop it and smash it on the floor!
A sickly sweet peach scent exploded in the room, making Li Chu feel dizzy. She was so consumed by the heat that she had no mind to locate the source of the scent. She forcefully pressed the restroom door handle, wanting to get out and find her phone to call for help.
Ning Manqing had been intending to leave.
She didn’t know what Li Chu was planning, and her sequence of reactions had been bizarre, but that wasn’t her concern.
As she walked to the door, ready to depart, she caught a whiff of an extremely faint peach pheromone scent.
It was delicate, a wisp, like a sweet woven cage, confining her to this small space, making her feel bewildered yet greedy for more. A very strange palpitation stirred in her heart.
Ning Manqing thought: I shouldn’t be able to smell pheromones. I’m a Beta, confirmed clearly in the hospital report when I was eighteen.
Yet, the scent of the pheromone grew stronger, confirming that her initial perception hadn’t been a mistake.
The tip of her tongue seemed to register the sweetness of peach. Her brain felt slightly oxygen-deprived and hazy from the scent. Subconsciously, she moved toward the source of the fragrance. The sound of the door handle being pressed snapped her instantly awake.
But the scene that greeted her next made her freeze in place.
Damp black hair clung to Li Chu’s pale, delicate face. The flush of heat veiled her bright, almond-shaped eyes with a layer of mist. Her body swayed involuntarily, and even the fingertips clutching the doorframe exuded a sweet aroma.
A ripe peach, ready to burst with juice without needing to be squeezed hard.
Vibrant and intoxicating didn’t begin to cover it.
Li Chu’s breathing became heavier, and her head was spinning. A watery mist covered her eyes. She could only vaguely make out the figure in front of her—it must be Ning Manqing, who hadn’t left yet.
She saw her like a savior and stumbled toward her.
“Ning Manqing…”
Help me make a call.
Li Chu couldn’t finish the sentence before her consciousness completely plunged into chaos.
To Ning Manqing, however, it looked like Li Chu was desperately trying to get closer to her, and then, a sweet fragrance filled her embrace.
Softly, the woman’s half-opened red lips murmured her name. Her misty eyes seemed to hold a shattered spring pool.
The scent gland at the back of Ning Manqing’s neck heated up. The instinctive, genetically ingrained desire screamed for her to embrace and possess the Omega that belonged to her.
Ning Manqing’s willpower was on the verge of collapse. She gripped Li Chu’s jaw and asked, “Where is your suppressant?”
Li Chu did not answer her; she simply wrapped her arms around Ning Manqing’s neck.
Consciousness lost.
Ning Manqing looked at the woman in her arms, who was practically melted into water, and picked her up.
Li Chu smelled a faint fragrance, like orchids, but more than that.
The clean scent carried a slight astringency, like the Cloud Mist tea she’d once tasted.
Helplessly, she grasped at the elusive scent, and then a warm, slender hand covered the back of hers, sheltering her trembling body with every breath.
The Cloud Mist tea fragrance merged with the peach scent, refusing to be rejected, neutralizing into an extremely unique, faint sweetness in the room.
It was like the drizzle of early spring falling on tea leaves and peach branches, clinging to one’s entire body.
Li Chu whimpered, like a lone boat helpless in a storm. In her void of confusion, the warmth behind her felt like her salvation. She clung to that warmth desperately, like a parasitic plant, yet she was so soft, like a sweet, ripe peach gently swaying on a branch.
Li Chu heard the other person’s heartbeat and felt their breath. She inhaled that near-orchid, cloud-mist fragrance with almost devotion.
The fragrance, gentle yet dominant, occupied her brain and controlled her senses, demanding her confusion, her submission, her willing surrender.
The pain made Li Chu’s hands lose strength. Her meticulously manicured nails left a few red marks on the silk-smooth back.
“Be good. Don’t be afraid.”
The voice was slightly hoarse, sinking into her eardrum, making Li Chu unconsciously relax her grip. Her eyelashes fluttered, and her tears were kissed away.
The gland at the back of her neck was filled with the peach scent. Instinct tempted the Alpha to bite down and taste the sweetness. The Alpha’s teeth easily pierced the gland, marking the prey as hers for a short time.
The cool Cloud Mist fragrance seemed to pour completely into her body. Li Chu trembled even more. Her mind was blank, unable to think of anything. It was as if she saw the heavenly light piercing the misty mountaintop, and she was gently embracing death in that moment.
…
When Li Chu woke up, she felt like she’d been struck by lightning.
Ning Manqing, lying beside her, was still asleep. Compared to the day before, her beauty seemed more aggressive after differentiating into an Alpha. Li Chu didn’t dare to look further. Her mind was a mess. With wobbly legs, she put on her clothes as quickly as possible and fled in a panic.
In her escape, she didn’t forget to take the camera hidden in the flower pot. Wearing the mask and hat she kept in her bag, she sat in the taxi, her eyes blank.
Where is my Omega?! My big, beautiful, perfect Omega female lead?!
Why did she turn into an Alpha?!
WHY!!!
This isn’t how the plot was written!!!
