- Chapter 5 - Marriage Agreement, We... Are Lovers!
Lu Yidong slowly explained: “For some reasons, I need to get married to receive an inheritance.”
He paused: “I hope you can seriously consider it. You don’t have to rush to reply.”
Shen Qiu blinked in confusion: “Why me?”
Lu Yidong pursed his lips: “I hope it will be mutually beneficial and transactional, without too many emotional factors involved.”
He changed the subject: “I heard your company’s recent profits haven’t been good. I can help you solve that.”
Just when he needed a nap, someone delivered a pillow. (A Chinese idiom meaning to get help when it’s most needed).
Shen Qiu chuckled: “Like a marriage of convenience?”
“…You could say that.”
“Then how long will this marriage last?”
Lu Yidong was prepared: “No more than two years. We will then peacefully separate, citing irreconcilable differences.”
Shen Qiu was silent for a moment, then nodded: “I’ve asked all the questions I have.”
Lu Yidong unconsciously curled his fingers: “Then, what is your intention?”
“I’m not losing anything in this,” Shen Qiu shrugged, smiling easily, “What do we need to do now?”
Lu Yidong’s tense back relaxed a little: “Not immediately. I just need to attend a banquet this weekend, which is in the city.”
Shen Qiu proactively took the job, raising his hand in an “OK” gesture: “Got it, a fake partner to build momentum.”
Seeing that Lu Yidong didn’t seem to have anything more to say, he asked: “Don’t we need to sign an agreement?”
“An agreement for a contractual marriage doesn’t hold legal effect, and I’m not worried about you going back on your word,” Lu Yidong said gently, though his tone held the confidence of someone in a high position.
Shen Qiu nodded obediently.
Lu Yidong’s expression softened.
The two quickly reached an agreement.
As Shen Qiu was leaving, Lu Yidong opened the door for him, and to prevent Shen Qiu from being nervous, he reassured him: “You just need to show up; I will arrange everything else.”
Shen Qiu: “Then I appreciate it.”
Shen Qiu quickly returned home, wanting to pick a suitable formal suit.
But he wasn’t knowledgeable about clothing, and he felt troubled looking at a row of similar suits.
He pulled out his phone, hesitantly clicked on Lu Yidong’s WeChat, and after much deliberation and editing, sent:
[Is there a specific dress code for the banquet?]
To his surprise, Lu Yidong replied quickly.
[Someone will come to pick you up then and will bring it over for you.]
Shen Qiu breathed a sigh of relief.
A few days passed quickly, and the weekend arrived.
The doorbell rang, and a young man handed over an item, respectfully saying, “Young Master Shen, this is your attire. We’ll wait for you outside.”
Shen Qiu thanked him, quickly took the clothes, and went inside.
The young man returned to the car after delivering the suit.
“Boss, Young Master Shen should be down soon.”
Lu Yidong in the back row let out a faint “Mhm,” slowly opened his eyes, and looked towards the door.
Sure enough, Shen Qiu emerged shortly after.
Shen Qiu was wearing a fitted, dark blue suit, standing tall and straight as a pine tree, with a silver brooch and cufflinks reflecting the light.
Unlike his usual casual attire, which made him look young and gentle, the suit made him appear more handsome and radiant.
Lu Yidong’s gaze lingered for a moment. As Shen Qiu walked closer, he opened the car door.
Shen Qiu looked surprised: “Lu Zong, why did you come too?”
After speaking, he realized that as partners, they naturally had to arrive together.
He gave an awkward smile.
Lu Yidong, however, didn’t mind, his attention was focused on Shen Qiu’s form of address.
He frowned slightly: “We need to appear more intimate later. Let’s not call me Lu Zong.”
Shen Qiu looked enlightened: “Then… ‘Lu Ge’ (Brother Lu)?”
The light inside the car was dim. Lu Yidong could only see Shen Qiu’s bright eyes, softly calling “Lu Ge.”
“Lu Ge, is that okay?” Shen Qiu asked again, sounding doubtful.
Lu Yidong vaguely responded with an affirmative sound and nodded.
Shen Qiu patted his chest: “Don’t worry, I’ll definitely act well later.”
As they spoke, the car arrived at the venue and smoothly came to a stop.
Lu Yidong thoughtfully opened the door for Shen Qiu.
Shen Qiu smacked his lips, thinking to himself that this was easy.
Shen Qiu moved closer to Lu Yidong, looked up at his expression, and tentatively reached out his hand.
Lu Yidong stopped and looked at him. Shen Qiu steeled himself and directly hooked his arm through Lu Yidong’s.
Lu Yidong’s body stiffened, but he didn’t pull away.
Shen Qiu put on a sweet smile, and the two entered the venue together.
They were both wearing tailor-made suits, one black and one dark blue, with many small details reflecting a couple’s style.
Their intimate behavior instantly drew countless people’s secret observation.
“…Who is the person with Boss Lu? A little lover? Boss Lu doesn’t seem like that kind of person.”
“Shh, are you blind? That’s Young Master Shen from the Shen family.”
That person gasped: “That useless lickspittle? No way.”
Shen Qiu pouted unhappily and moved even closer to Lu Yidong.
Lu Yidong coldly glared, and the people around them instantly fell silent.
That person, realizing he had misspoken and fearing to offend Lu Yidong, quickly shrunk his neck and shifted his gaze.
Shen Qiu’s expression immediately brightened.
He wore a smile and kept close to Lu Yidong, appearing generous and proper.
Ignoring the obvious and subtle scrutiny, he focused his attention on Lu Yidong, reserving his bright and cheerful expression only for Lu Yidong.
They looked like an affectionate couple.
Lu Yidong was secretly shocked by how well he was acting.
He cooperated outwardly, politely greeting the people he knew.
They encountered two people walking towards them, who appeared to be a father and daughter.
Shen Qiu keenly noticed a hint of helplessness in Lu Yidong’s expression.
“Uncle Han, long time no see.” Lu Yidong nodded.
“Xiao Lu, I thought about bringing Han Antong along. You young people have things in common, so you can chat more,” Uncle Han affectionately patted his daughter’s shoulder.
“Hello, Lu Ge.”
Han Antong was graceful and generous in her evening gown, her face beaming with a smile, and the look in her eyes toward Lu Yidong was full of deep affection.
Lu Yidong casually placed his hand on Shen Qiu’s shoulder, loosely embracing him.
He greeted her distantly: “Hello, Miss Han.”
Han Antong naturally shifted her gaze to Shen Qiu, her eyes scrutinizing and carrying a hint of hostility: “This must be Young Master Shen from the Shen family. Lu Ge and I have something to discuss. Would you mind stepping aside?”
Shen Qiu felt Lu Yidong’s hand on his shoulder move slightly, and he immediately understood.
It was his turn to work.
He smiled sweetly and shyly: “Miss Han, you are so young and beautiful, I wouldn’t dare let Lu Ge be alone with you.”
After speaking, he pursed his lips, his apricot-shaped eyes suggesting unspoken emotions, seemingly filled with happiness.
Miss Han pursed her red lips and pleaded: “Lu Ge~”
Lu Yidong remained composed and ignored her.
Feeling ignored, she couldn’t hold back: “I haven’t had the pleasure of asking, why is Young Master Shen here?”
The entire venue seemed to fall silent for a moment.
In reality, as the Group’s director, Boss Lu’s every move was watched by everyone.
Everyone secretly speculated about the relationship between the two.
They all pricked up their ears to eavesdrop.
Lu Yidong said in a low voice, unexpectedly gentle: “You tell them?”
Shen Qiu looked at him. Lu Yidong’s hand was still on his shoulder, giving him full confidence.
He paused, a few potential titles crossing his tongue, and then he said sweetly: “Lu Ge and I… are lovers.”
