- After Transmigrating into a Ridiculous Alpha, I Saved My Aloof Omega Wife (GL, ABO)
- Chapter 5 - The Pavilion by the Water
To Jiang Muyan’s disappointment, Class 1 and Class 2 didn’t have PE together. The PE teacher for Class 2 had an emergency and changed the class to self-study, so all the students returned to their classroom.
Now during free activity time, Luo Jiajia sat on the grass comforting Jiang Muyan, explaining that the Class 2 academic monitor had face blindness and could barely remember people, let alone names.
Jiang Muyan recalled Cheng Jianli’s indifferent “I don’t know you” and covered her face, sniffling pitifully, “But it’s only been a day! How could she forget me already?”
Luo Jiajia: “Why are you so worked up? You and Cheng Jianli aren’t even close. Even if you met once, it’s normal not to remember.”
Jiang Muyan suddenly realized: “Oh right, I guess we’re not that familiar.”
Luo Jiajia: “…”
Miss Jiang, where on earth did you get that confidence from?!
When Xu Yinghe heard about this from Luo Jiajia, she focused on another question: “Jiang Muyan, why did you want to give Cheng Jianli water?”
Jiang Muyan worriedly replied, “I was afraid she’d get thirsty. The sun was scorching at noon, what if she got heatstroke?”
“Even if she did, the PE teacher would send her to the infirmary,” Luo Jiajia said.
“No, she doesn’t like being touched by others,” Jiang Muyan shook her head.
Xu Yinghe: “How do you know that?”
“Because she’s my—” The word “wife” nearly slipped out, but Jiang Muyan caught herself just in time. “Because… because I’m transferring to Class 2, so I should get along with the academic monitor first. That’s why I learned a bit about her.”
Xu Yinghe scoffed. “So, what if she’s the academic monitor? She’s so poor and from the countryside. Why bother learning about her?”
Jiang Muyan frowned. Even before transmigrating into this novel, her family had been wealthy, but she never looked down on those from poorer backgrounds. The one thing a child could never choose in this world was their birth, Jiang Muyan simply considered herself luckier than most.
Besides, if it really came down to it, her wife was countless times more outstanding than her. Graduating from a prestigious foreign university and becoming a key researcher, everything Cheng Jianli had achieved was earned through her own hard work.
“Being poor now doesn’t mean she’ll stay poor forever,” Jiang Muyan said. “And she’s so smart, she might surpass us someday.”
Xu Yinghe didn’t respond, only smiled faintly.
Luo Jiajia suddenly spoke up: “Speaking of Cheng Jianli, has anyone seen her physical exam report? Will she differentiate into an alpha or a beta?”
“No idea. Something that private wouldn’t be shared,” Xu Yinghe replied. “But she gives off such a cold, imposing vibe—probably an alpha.”
Jiang Muyan silently gazed at the sky. Though she didn’t understand much about the ABO world’s dynamics, the system had told her she’d differentiate into an alpha, while Cheng Jianli would become an omega.
“Hey, when do we have physiology class?” Jiang Muyan felt she needed to learn more about this.
“Physiology?” Xu Yinghe raised an eyebrow. “Didn’t we take that in sophomore year?”
Jiang Muyan froze. “We don’t have it in senior year?”
“We do, but not for another month,” Xu Yinghe said. “We have midterms first.”
Another month of waiting. Jiang Muyan gave up and continued chatting with them, though her thoughts had already drifted far away.
She recalled the moments she shared with Cheng Jianli. Last New Year, right after the reunion dinner, Jiang Muyan had pinned her against the balcony’s floor-to-ceiling window for a kiss. Below them were countless glowing household lights, while fireworks lit up the sky. Cheng Jianli had melted into her arms, eyes rimmed red.
The next day, neither of them went to work. The research institute had no choice but to call Jiang Muyan, saying some new software had been developed and Cheng Jianli absolutely needed to come in.
Jiang Muyan clung to her wife, whining to keep her from leaving. Only after Cheng Jianli promised she’d return soon did Jiang Muyan reluctantly let her go.
Back then, Cheng Jianli divided her time into three parts: one for the company, one for the research institute, and the rest entirely devoted to Jiang Muyan.
Her wife was the person who treated her best in the whole world, she was even willing to carve out time from her work schedule for her. Jiang Muyan had been so moved she nearly cried.
But now, the person she’d worked so hard to win over had forgotten her. The thought alone made her miserable.
As Jiang Muyan was lost in these thoughts, her phone buzzed with a message from Lin Shu: “Come home early after school. I’ve found you a tutor.”
They actually found a tutor who meets those ridiculous conditions?!
Jiang Muyan felt her soul leave her body upon reading this. She let out a dramatic wail and collapsed onto the lawn.
In her twenties, she was in her twenties and still being tortured by math and science!
Luo Jiajia poked her shoulder. “Jiang Muyan, are you really not coming to karaoke tonight?”
“Can’t,” Jiang Muyan groaned, eyes shut in agony. “I’ve got tutoring tonight. Have fun without me.”
The school day passed quickly, and soon it was dismissal time. As Jiang Muyan packed her bag, she wondered why her class transfer was taking so long, the homeroom teacher hadn’t even approached her about it.
Tang Yu spun a basketball on his finger as he sidled up. “Young Miss, that hot forum post is getting more comments. Some people are asking for your contact info, should I give it?”
“Mine?” Jiang Muyan looked up.
“Yeah. Though some want the class rep’s info too, but hahaha… they’d have better luck getting that in their next lifetime.” The basketball kept spinning.
Hearing someone wanted her wife’s contact information instantly put Jiang Muyan on high alert. “I’ll give you two thousand to delete that post.”
Tang Yu: “?”
The basketball hit the ground.
Suddenly holding a stack of pink bills, Tang Yu stammered, “Wait, but I’m not a moderator, I can’t—”
Jiang Muyan shoved another two thousand at him. “Figure it out.”
Tang Yu’s eyes sparkled. “No problem at all! Whatever Young Miss says goes!”
Amid the group’s laughter as they left the classroom, Jiang Muyan glanced toward Class 2 but didn’t see the person she wanted to see, leaving her somewhat disappointed. Just then, Xu Yinghe asked, “Jiang Muyan, is Uncle Liu picking you up today?”
“He picks me up every day.”
“Wow, you’re doomed, Young Miss. No more nighttime outings with us,” Luo Jiajia gloated.
Both Xu Yinghe and Luo Jiajia came from well-off families, especially Xu Yinghe, whose family had business partnerships with several companies. Xu Yinghe ruffled Luo Jiajia’s hair. “With midterms coming up, even Jiang Muyan is studying. You should try doing some too.”
Luo Jiajia stuck out her tongue. “After karaoke tonight, I’ll start studying tomorrow.”
The four of them walked out of the school gate, and sure enough, the Jiang Group’s lake-blue Bentley was parked right at the entrance. Jiang Muyan felt like getting into the car was akin to walking to her execution.
She really didn’t want to attend tutoring sessions, ahhh!
Suddenly, Tang Yu exclaimed, “Huh? Isn’t that Gu Xi from Ninth High next door?”
Jiang Muyan didn’t turn around, still wallowing in misery.
Xu Yinghe chimed in, “You know people from Ninth High?”
Tang Yu replied, “I saw her at the city’s calligraphy competition before. She’s an alpha who presented really early left an impression on me.”
Jiang Muyan had been about to get into the car when Tang Yu added, “Why is Class Rep with her? I thought Cheng Jianli didn’t like interacting with alphas.”
Cheng Jianli?
The moment Jiang Muyan heard her wife’s name, she froze in place.
She turned around and, sure enough, saw Cheng Jianli standing at the school gate, facing a tall female alpha. Many seniors at Ninth High had already presented, and Gu Xi was one of them.
“Isn’t it normal for Cheng Jianli to avoid alphas? Alphas tend to clash with each other,” Xu Yinghe nudged Luo Jiajia’s arm. “Guess we were right her physical exam results probably confirmed she’s an alpha too.”
The alpha named Gu Xi was talking to Cheng Jianli, who remained composed, her expression cool and unreadable.
Uncle Liu stepped out from the side of the Bentley and took Jiang Muyan’s backpack. “Young Miss, time to get in the car.”
Jiang Muyan watched the scene unfold, her heart boiling with jealousy.
Why was her wife talking to that alpha? Why did they seem so close? Why had Cheng Jianli forgotten her name today but was now spending time with this alpha? Why, why, why—
“Young Miss?” Uncle Liu called again when Jiang Muyan didn’t move.
Without looking back, Jiang Muyan ducked into the Bentley. “Two minutes. I want this alpha’s full dossier.”
It was rush hour, and the city streets were clogged with traffic.
Cheng Jianli had gone to meet Hu Yue—tonight, she was scheduled to tutor a high school student.
Hu Yue was quite familiar with her, and after a brief exchange, they set off together.
On the way, Hu Yue asked while driving, “How’s school been lately?”
Cheng Jianli looked up and smiled faintly. “It’s been fine.”
Hu Yue chuckled. “The students you helped get into top high schools all said they wanted to treat you to dinner. Got any free time?”
“No need. I just tutored them, no reason to go through the trouble,” Cheng Jianli replied.
Hu Yue often helped Cheng Jianli find tutoring gigs. She knew this girl was exceptionally bright and sincerely hoped she could finish high school smoothly and get into her dream university.
“This time, the parent is a friend of mine. Her child also goes to Hongchuan Seventh High—peer tutoring, so it shouldn’t be too difficult for you, right?” Hu Yue said. “Today’s just a meet-up. If you feel you can’t handle it, let me know, and I won’t bother you with it again.”
“It’s fine, no trouble at all,” Cheng Jianli said softly, shaking her head.
“Don’t stress too much,” Hu Yue smiled. “The family’s really nice. I’ve met their daughter—smart, but too playful, hates studying. Think you can whip her into shape, Teacher Cheng?”
Cheng Jianli had a serious, responsible attitude toward academics. “I’ll do my best.”
She gazed through the car window at the brilliant sunset flowing across the horizon, bathing the entire city in an orange-red glow. Cheng Jianli felt her mind completely relax.
About an hour later, Hu Yue’s car arrived at the Jiang family’s villa.
Jiang Muyan’s father Jiang Huai had purchased numerous villas in his early years, and this was just the most unremarkable among them. Yet even so, it was Cheng Jianli’s first time seeing such a luxurious residence. The exterior boasted European-style architecture, with expensive tiles paving the entrance and a grand fountain standing nearby. Even the flowers, plants, and trees were meticulously trimmed by professional gardeners, exuding an air of grandeur.
As she stepped out of the car, the butler was already waiting there.
“Hello, Miss Hu. This must be Tutor Cheng who’s here for the tutoring session?” The formally dressed butler approached them.
Cheng Jianli nodded. “Hello.”
“Hello, hello! Our young mistress has already returned and is waiting in the living room,” the butler said warmly, without a trace of arrogance. “Miss Hu, would you like to come in for a while?”
“No need, I have matters to attend to at the restaurant,” Hu Yue replied with a smile. She ran a restaurant where Cheng Jianli had once worked part-time. “Feel free to call me if there are any issues. I’ll be on my way now.”
“Alright, goodbye, Aunt Hu.” Cheng Jianli knew Hu Yue was just dropping her off and had other errands to run.
“Tutor Cheng, no need to stand here. Please come inside,” the butler’s enthusiasm helped Cheng Jianli relax slightly. As he led her through the front garden, he asked considerately, “Tutor Cheng, would you like me to carry your bag for you?”
Cheng Jianli politely declined. “No, thank you.”
“Then what kind of tea or snacks would you like later?” the butler continued. “Do you have any fruit allergies? I can inform the servants in advance—”
“No need, thank you. I’d prefer to start the tutoring session first,” Cheng Jianli replied.
“Our young mistress’s grades aren’t the best, so there’s a lot for her to learn,” the butler explained.
“It’s fine. I have a science test prepared for her to identify her weak areas,” Cheng Jianli said.
The butler nodded. “Very well.”
After a brief exchange, just before entering, the butler suddenly remembered something and cautiously stopped Cheng Jianli. “Ah, Tutor Cheng, there’s one very important thing I need to tell you.”
Cheng Jianli frowned slightly. “Go ahead.”
“The young mistress said she’s a flower of the motherland, so you mustn’t hit her,” the butler said solemnly.
Cheng Jianli: “…”
Just how terrible were this student’s grades that both the butler and Hu Yue had warned her not to resort to physical discipline?
“…I don’t hit children. You can rest assured,” Cheng Jianli replied.
Inside the villa, Jiang Muyan remained blissfully unaware of what was coming. Lin Shu and Jiang Huai had left for the company, leaving only the butler and servants to look after her. She lounged on a plush leather sofa worth over a hundred thousand yuan, flipping through the documents Uncle Liu had sent her.
The alpha who had spoken to her wife today was named Gu Xi, a 19-year-old senior at No. 9 High School. She had presented as an alpha six months ago, excelled in calligraphy, and had met Cheng Jianli at a calligraphy competition. They had stayed in touch ever since.
Conclusion: Not as good-looking as Jiang Muyan, not as young, and certainly not as conveniently placed to “pluck the moon first by virtue of a nearby tower.”
Jiang Muyan sprang up like a carp leaping out of water and threw a series of military-style punches at the air. “Hahahahaha! Dream on if you think you can steal my wife!”
