- Chapter 8 - Magazine Shoot
Jiang Qing typed, “When acting falls short, beauty steps in. Maybe it was my beauty that touched Director Chen, made him think I’m full of potential. A blank slate, yes, but one he can write on freely, creating a legendary story full of flair and charm.”
Song Qin Ning replied with nothing more than
“…”
Jiang Qing was just about to type something else when two knocks came from the door. A doctor entered for the routine check-up.
Holding a clipboard, the doctor asked about Jiang Qing’s current condition.
Jiang Qing stretched a little and felt that her strength and energy had mostly returned.
The doctor then asked what had happened right before she fainted. Jiang Qing answered honestly.
After making his notes, the doctor explained the treatment she had received.
“According to your pheromone hormone levels in the database, we first gave you a strong injection. But it wasn’t enough to suppress the sudden spike in your Alpha hormones. We had to increase the dosage and administer two more injections to stabilize your hormone levels back to normal Alpha range.”
“This means your pheromone profile may have changed. You’ll need to take another ABO test, and the updated results will be uploaded to the national pheromone database to replace the previous record.”
The doctor gave her directions to the testing lab, then reminded her to eat light, stay indoors as much as possible, and even at home, keep inhibitors nearby in case of another episode.
Jiang Qing carefully wrote all of it down in the notes app on her phone.
She planned to go for testing shortly.
She was no longer afraid that a medical exam might reveal her origins from another world and lead to her being studied like a specimen.
After doing her research, she found out that in Blue Star, pheromone changes in Alphas were quite common.
Factors like age, gland maturity, hormone levels, car accidents, sleep deprivation, and even alcohol abuse could all affect pheromone composition.
So even if she took the test, she would not stand out as anything strange.
After being confirmed for the role of Xiao Xu, Jiang Qing began a focused training plan for physical fitness and body sculpting.
Her current body was flawless. Graceful curves, skin like fine porcelain.
Just a little more would feel excessive, and a little less would be lacking.
But Xiao Xu was not someone who should have this kind of delicate figure.
Despite being born into royalty, raised in luxury like Jiang Qing herself, Princess Xiao Xu was admired and respected across the capital.
She was skilled in literature and martial arts alike.
With such strength and discipline, her body should reflect firm and powerful beauty.
To prepare, Jiang Qing worked out an hour every day and ate a clean, protein-rich lunch that always included boiled chicken br3ast.
A week later, it was time for the magazine shoot.
Jiang Qing and Song Qin Ning arrived at the set early, already dressed and made up, waiting for the third actress to show up.
By now, they were already half an hour past the agreed meeting time, but there was still no sign of Huang Huijun.
Jiang Qing and Song Qin Ning sat near the edge of the studio, chatting.
Well, it was mostly Jiang Qing doing the talking while Song Qin Ning listened quietly.
Occasionally, when Jiang Qing got particularly excited about something, she would laugh out loud, covering her mouth slightly, and turn to ask Song Qin Ning what she thought.
Song Qin Ning still carried her usual air of elegance and aloofness, but the winter frost in her eyes had softened into a still, gentle pool. There were subtle ripples of warmth.
Every now and then, a few busy staff members would walk past them.
They moved with purpose from one end of the studio to the other, eventually gathering with other crew members, hands on hips, forming a small, serious circle.
It was as if they were discussing a top-secret document no one else could overhear.
“Oh my god, I saw it with my own eyes. It’s real. They’re not fighting,” one staffer said in disbelief.
“Our Qin Ning would never stoop to fighting with someone like Jiang Qing, who only knows how to market herself,” another muttered, shooting a sharp look at the first.
“This whole scene is just bizarre. Even in my dreams, I wouldn’t have imagined it.”
It was like seeing two best friends laughing together—that felt natural.
But two people known to dislike each other, just sitting together peacefully, was oddly surreal.
Everyone was whispering their own take, filled with surprise, curiosity, and admiration.
They were shocked that two people once at odds could not only work together but do so calmly.
They were amazed that Jiang Qing, once known for her temper, had shown no signs of lashing out today.
They admired Song Qin Ning, the popular top star, for her grace and patience in dealing with Jiang Qing, who was often labeled as nothing more than a publicity queen.
It seemed that every Blue Star citizen had a strand of DNA programmed specifically for gossip. The discussion grew louder and more animated by the second.
Just then, Mei, the short-haired and sharp-eyed assistant, pushed up her glasses as they glinted under the light. Her voice landed like a stone on a calm lake.
“Am I the only one who thinks… they actually look good together?”
The room fell silent.
Even the air seemed to freeze.
The next moment, everyone turned their heads in perfect sync.
There they were, two Alphas in tailored suits, both with slender waists and long legs, sitting side by side.
One was speaking animatedly, her features bright and expressive. The other sat slightly leaned toward her, cool and calm like the moon in a clear sky. Her long hair fell gently over her cheek as she listened quietly.
The entire studio seemed to glow around them.
The image was so striking that it looked like a magazine spread come to life. Even if the photographer had taken a blurry photo by accident, it would still become the most popular dreamy aesthetic online within minutes.
Jiang Qing was enthusiastically describing her newly bought protein powder, which she claimed tasted amazing. Just then, the sharp clack of high heels echoed from down the hall, growing closer and closer.
“Sorry, everyone. I’m late. But I can’t be the last one here, right?”
The overly sweet tone suddenly shifted the moment she laid eyes on Jiang Qing, returning to its natural flatness.
Huang Huijun tried hard not to let her perfectly made-up face twist in annoyance. She forced a smile.
“Jiang Qing, you’re here so early today?”
Jiang Qing could understand the look in her eyes, but she had no idea who this woman was.
Instinctively, she glanced over at Song Qin Ning.
To her own surprise, Song Qin Ning understood what Jiang Qing meant just from that look. And for a brief moment, she actually felt a little sorry for Huang Huijun.
Huang Huijun had once been a top star in TV dramas. Although the roles she took after the age of twenty-six lacked impact and her career had faded, she still held seniority and was widely respected in the industry.
Until she crossed paths with the young lady who didn’t care about popularity and only played by family background.
The young lady couldn’t stand Huang Huijun, and Huang Huijun couldn’t stand her either.
But Huang Huijun knew how to act. She was a smiling tiger, all sweetness on the outside. The young lady could never outtalk her and often ended up fuming.
Still, after losing several jobs and publicity opportunities to her, Huang Huijun gained nothing in the end.
Song Qin Ning once accidentally overheard Huang Huijun venting to her assistant, cursing Jiang Qing behind her back. That was when she realized just how much Huang Huijun cared about this rivalry.
What she didn’t expect was that Jiang Qing didn’t even remember what Huang Huijun looked like.
Song Qin Ning stood up and greeted her. “Sister Huijun.”
Huang Huijun gave her a warm smile, then glanced toward Jiang Qing.
She was clearly waiting for Jiang Qing to say something.
Jiang Qing slowly rose to her feet and lazily pushed her curled hair behind her shoulders.
Under Huang Huijun’s hopeful gaze, she opened her lips, red and glossy.
“It’s true, I got here a bit early. Not like you, Sister Huijun. So considerate.”
“Considerate? What do you mean?”
Huang Huijun blinked. She couldn’t quite figure out what this clueless young lady was getting at.
Jiang Qing smiled. “Well, you must have put on all that heavy makeup just for us. That’s so touching. But really, Sister Huijun, there’s no need to go that far next time. It must be uncomfortable with all that caking and dryness on your face. My heart aches for you.”
Huang Huijun’s chest rose and fell. She was furious.
She tried to put on a fragile, wounded look, something with just the right amount of sarcasm and innocence. But she couldn’t figure out how to respond in her usual white-lotus style. Her face froze in a weird expression, her shoulders gave a slight twitch, and she stormed off stiffly toward the makeup room.
With no response, Jiang Qing shrugged.
If that was the best she could do with subtle digs and passive-aggressive lines, she really needed more practice.
Noticing Song Qin Ning’s gaze, Jiang Qing turned toward her and asked gently, “Miss Song, is something wrong?”
Song Qin Ning hesitated, then said, “It’s nothing.”
There was no yelling, no insults, no public drama like before. But somehow, she still had the strange feeling that Jiang Qing’s ability to fight had only gotten stronger.
