All I Want Is to Hold the Heroine in My Arms [Transmigration into a Book] - Chapter 14
“This… this is way too fast!”
“Yes, but it was decided during the morning meeting, so we haven’t had a chance to talk with Nan Jie yet,” Mo Qing paused for a moment and added, “Right now, only people within the company know about it.”
Wan Shuang was momentarily stunned by Mo Qing’s words but quickly understood.
In Mo Qing’s eyes, she was still the original Wan Shuang, the one who liked Jing Yijie.
So that last sentence was a subtle warning not to tell Jing Yijie.
“Oh… okay.”
Their conversation ended with that casual response from Wan Shuang.
She walked into the office and saw Wan Cheng resting on the sofa with his eyes closed.
“What is it?” Hearing the footsteps, Wan Cheng assumed it was Mo Qing with more work to discuss. He didn’t open his eyes and simply asked.
Maybe because he hadn’t rested all night, his voice sounded a little hoarse. It carried more depth than usual, adding to its natural charm.
Looking at his tired appearance, Wan Shuang felt a pang of guilt in her heart.
It was her selfish decision that had caused Wan Cheng and the rest of the staff to be so busy. She felt a bit remorseful.
With guilt weighing on her, her voice softened as she quietly said, “Brother, it’s me.”
When Wan Cheng heard her voice, he opened his eyes immediately. The exhaustion on his face disappeared completely.
Looking at his little sister, he noticed she was standing there with her head down like a child who had done something wrong. She didn’t move at all.
She looked like she had been bullied.
Wan Cheng quickly got up and wrapped her in a hug. He placed a hand gently on her head and asked, “What’s wrong? Hmm?”
That embrace gave Wan Shuang a warmth she had never felt before.
As an orphan, she had never experienced a hug like that.
In that moment, she truly saw Wan Cheng as her real brother, not just a character from a book.
Even though she had been inside the novel world for nearly a month, she still hadn’t fully adjusted to this new environment or the unfamiliar relationships around her. But now, because of Wan Cheng’s caring embrace, the restless feeling in her heart finally settled.
“Brother, do you want to go home and get some rest?”
When he heard that, Wan Cheng immediately understood. His sister was worried about him.
He wasn’t sure when it happened, but the sister who used to be headstrong and sometimes gave him headaches had suddenly become thoughtful and gentle.
The old Wan Shuang never cared whether he was busy or tired, let alone brought him breakfast.
Seeing the thermos in her hands, a warm feeling passed through Wan Cheng’s chest.
With pride in his eyes and a smile that spoke of joy in watching her grow up, he gently pulled Wan Shuang to sit on the sofa beside him.
“Don’t worry. I’m fine.”
“You didn’t sleep all night. How could you be fine?”
“Who said I didn’t sleep?”
“You didn’t even come home last night,” Wan Shuang said, then looked around.
Could it be that Wan Cheng had one of those executive-style rest rooms in his office, like in those cheesy romance novels?
The kind where the female lead wears the CEO’s spare shirt and lies on his bed, and the CEO coldly says, “Don’t think you can seduce me,” before things take a very steamy turn.
Wan Shuang glanced around the office but didn’t see any extra doors.
“The rest area is on the thirtieth floor.”
Wan Cheng noticed her wandering eyes and guessed exactly what she was thinking.
His voice brought her imagination to a screeching halt.
“Uh…” Embarrassed by what she had been imagining, Wan Shuang quickly shook it out of her head and changed the subject. “Try the porridge Aunt Wang made just for you.”
…
After Wan Cheng finished eating, Wan Shuang was about to ask him about the collaboration with the Shi family.
But before she could say anything, Wan Cheng spoke first.
“When do you have time to arrange a meeting between me and Miss Shi?”
Let brother meet Miss Shi.
Let brother meet Miss Shi.
That sentence echoed in Wan Shuang’s head again and again.
He’s kidding, right? If they meet, my lie will be exposed on the spot.
If little Yiyi finds out I told Wan Cheng that she likes me too, she’ll be so mad she won’t speak to me again.
Wan Shuang knew she had to stop this idea immediately.
So she played dumb and asked, “Huh? Why would you two need to meet?”
“Since you both like each other, that makes Miss Shi my sister-in-law, doesn’t it?” Wan Cheng gave her a mischievous smile. “If she’s my sister-in-law, I have to treat you both to a nice meal.”
That wasn’t the real reason.
Wan Cheng had two goals for meeting Shi Yi.
First, he wanted to see what kind of charm she had that could make his beloved sister fall so hard for her.
Second, he wanted to expose Shi Yi’s true intentions in front of Wan Shuang.
In Wan Cheng’s mind, Shi Yi was a scheming woman who got close to Wan Shuang only to gain her trust and use it to win company shares, all while pretending to be innocent.
He trusted his sister completely and had no idea how wrong he was about Shi Yi.
And Wan Shuang had no clue that the excuse she came up with had created this strange logic in Wan Cheng’s mind.
“No need, really,” Wan Shuang quickly waved her hands. “We’re family. There’s no need to be so formal.”
“I already asked Mo Qing to reserve the restaurant.”
Then why are you even asking me?
Wan Shuang felt both frustrated and helpless.
After leaving the company, she took a car to Shi Yi’s flower shop.
“Miss Wan? What brings you here today?” Xiao Huang, who was unloading boxes at the door, greeted her cheerfully.
But Wan Shuang was feeling overwhelmed. She gave a small nod in response and walked past him.
“The dinner is set for three days from now. It’s the day before your new school term starts. How about it?”
That sentence had followed her from the company all the way to the flower shop.
Wan Shuang didn’t know what to do.
If they had that dinner in three days, her lie to Wan Cheng would be exposed.
There would be no way to explain it.
So, she came up with a solution: she would talk to Shi Yi and make sure their stories matched.
Wan Shuang stepped into the shop in a daze. The familiar scent of flowers still filled the air.
The woman sat at a small table, carefully wrapping a bouquet of flowers. The colorful blooms in her hands couldn’t compare to her own radiant beauty.
Sunlight streamed through the glass, casting light across her face. A few drops of water, splashed onto the window earlier while watering plants, refracted the light and left a faint rainbow glow across Shi Yi’s cheek.
But it vanished in the blink of an eye.
The droplet had slid down.
Wan Shuang felt a little frustrated. She didn’t get the chance to capture that perfect image of Shi Yi’s breathtaking face.
Her soft, fair profile, the delicate upturned nose, and her naturally red lips were all stunning. But what truly caught Wan Shuang’s attention was the focused and serene look in Shi Yi’s eyes.
It was just a simple bouquet, yet in Shi Yi’s hands, it seemed to be given new life.
It looked vibrant and full of color.
“Welcome,” Shi Yi said, hearing footsteps entering the store. She set the flowers down on the table and looked toward the door.
She hadn’t expected a familiar face.
“You’re back?” Shi Yi asked with mild surprise when she saw Wan Shuang.
Aside from a hint of curiosity about why Wan Shuang had returned, she felt nothing else.
There was no delight, no excitement.
Wan Shuang quickly walked over and wrapped Shi Yi in a big hug. Resting her head in the crook of Shi Yi’s neck, she half-whined and half-murmured like a child, “Shi Yi-jie, didn’t you miss me? I missed you so much.”
Her warm breath tickled Shi Yi’s neck, causing her to shiver involuntarily.
Shi Yi tried to push her away, but Wan Shuang held on too tightly. She couldn’t budge her at all.
“Shi Yi-jie.” Wan Shuang noticed her reaction.
That familiar breath against her skin sent ripples of sensation through Shi Yi’s entire body.
She tilted her head slightly to the side so Wan Shuang’s breath wouldn’t touch her so directly anymore. Then, in a calm voice, she replied, “Hmm?”
“You’re really sensitive.”
Shi Yi thought she would hear another affectionate “I missed you” or something along those lines. She didn’t expect to be teased in such a flirtatious way.
Her face flushed red. She quickly grabbed the bouquet and held it between them as a barrier, then growled quietly in frustration, “Let go of me.”
Realizing Shi Yi was genuinely upset, Wan Shuang quickly released her.
The soft warmth in her arms was gone, and Wan Shuang found herself missing it already.
Once she felt Wan Shuang had truly let go, Shi Yi lowered the bouquet. She gave Wan Shuang a cold sideways glance, then turned and walked deeper into the shop.
The blush still lingered on Shi Yi’s face. That one glance, though brief, carried a captivating charm.
After a while, Shi Yi returned from the back with a glass of water.
She placed it on the table and looked at Wan Shuang across from her. “Why are you here?”
Her voice no longer carried its usual warmth and composure. Instead, she sounded like a sulking child.
Even though she was clearly annoyed, she had still brought a glass of water. This contradiction, this subtle kindness despite her irritation, made Wan Shuang’s heart melt a little more.
“I missed you.”
“Get out.”
Shi Yi stood up, clearly about to ask her to leave. But before she could act, Wan Shuang took a sip of water and got straight to the point.
“There’s something I need to talk to you about.”
When she saw Wan Shuang suddenly switch back to her serious demeanor, Shi Yi couldn’t help but laugh in disbelief.
How could someone change so quickly?
Just moments ago, she had been acting like a shameless flirt. Now she was all serious and proper.
This behavior didn’t fit the image of a wealthy heiress at all. Instead, it was more like someone who had been navigating society with street smarts for years.
Shi Yi had hit the mark without realizing it.
Wan Shuang had grown up in an orphanage. Life had taught her to read people and adapt quickly.
She had mastered the art of sensing others’ moods.
And just now, Shi Yi had genuinely been ready to kick her out.
Thankfully, Wan Shuang had changed the subject in time.
“What is it?”
“My brother said he wants to treat you to dinner three days from now.”
