All I Want Is to Hold the Heroine in My Arms [Transmigration into a Book] - Chapter 21
Before Wan Shuang got drunk last night, Shi Yi had only one thought in her heart.
“I don’t like girls, so I must make things clear to Wan Shuang.”
However, when Shi Yi saw Wan Shuang crouching on the chair in tears after drinking, a wave of guilt rose inside her.
In the past, she had rejected many men, but this was the first time she had turned down a girl. Not just any girl, but someone she was familiar with.
Unclear emotions stirred inside her, shifting up and down like waves.
Then she heard the drunken girl kiss her on the cheek inside the car and fall asleep in a daze.
In that moment, Shi Yi’s heart settled.
If she felt guilty toward her, then maybe she should do something to make up for it.
So Shi Yi brought Wan Shuang back to her place and even cooked a pot of warm congee to soothe her stomach.
When she saw Wan Shuang saying she was hungry, Shi Yi’s first instinct was to go find food for her and make sure she was full.
Maybe once Wan Shuang had eaten, she would stop feeling sad. And maybe Shi Yi herself would stop feeling guilty too.
“Shi Yi-jie, you are so slow. I’m starving,” Wan Shuang said in a soft and slightly spoiled tone when she opened the door and saw Shi Yi carrying bags of groceries.
Shi Yi was dressed simply today. A white short-sleeved T-shirt and black shorts. Her legs were long and straight, and her white canvas shoes gave off a fresh, youthful vibe.
Wan Shuang had thought Shi Yi was just saying she would cook. But when she saw both of her hands filled with bags, she realized Shi Yi truly meant it.
Standing at the door, Wan Shuang quickly took off the shoes she had just put on to go out.
After slipping her feet into slippers, she naturally reached out and took the grocery bags from Shi Yi’s hands.
“Come in quickly,” she said.
Shi Yi followed Wan Shuang through the doorway.
The apartment looked completely different from what she had imagined. What greeted her eyes was a sea of pink.
There was a pink sofa, a pink carpet, a pink refrigerator, and even more pink furniture.
“You like pink?” Shi Yi asked with a bit of confusion.
She had never seen Wan Shuang wear pink clothes before. So why were all the furniture pieces pink?
“It’s okay. My brother arranged everything,” Wan Shuang replied calmly.
But in her heart, she silently criticized the original owner’s taste.
Yes, all this pink furniture had been chosen by the original Wan Shuang herself.
She had wanted to decorate the place like a princess’s bedroom.
“Mr. Wan really spoils you,” Shi Yi commented.
Wan Shuang smiled but suddenly remembered something important.
“Shi Yi-jie, did you ask Yaoyao-jie what happened last night?”
She wanted to know exactly what had happened between Wan Cheng and Wen Yao.
Wan Cheng refused to say anything, but Wan Shuang was dying to find out. So, she shifted her hopes to Wen Yao.
With Shi Yi and Wen Yao being so close, she was sure Wen Yao would have confided in Shi Yi.
Best friends often talk about these kinds of relationship matters.
But now, she wondered if Shi Yi had ever talked to Wen Yao about her.
Before Wan Shuang could finish asking, Shi Yi already understood what she was trying to say.
“Yaoyao said she accidentally offended Mr. Wan before.”
That morning, Wen Yao had gone to Shi Yi’s flower shop to look for her.
“Yi baby, I’m so sorry about last night.” Wen Yao clung to Shi Yi, shaking her body playfully and rubbing against her shoulder.
Shi Yi pushed her clingy best friend away and gave her a half-smile.
“What happened between you and Mr. Wan?”
“Um, it’s a long story.”
“Then make it short.”
“I accidentally offended Wan Cheng in the past,” Wen Yao replied hesitantly.
“How come you never mentioned it?”
“I didn’t think it was important,” she said as she smoothed her hair.
“Anyway, it’s in the past now.”
“And last night?”
“Nothing happened between us!” Wen Yao hurried to interrupt Shi Yi before she could continue.
What she did not realize was that her anxious denial revealed more than she intended.
Usually so confident and charming, Wen Yao was now clearly nervous. This change only made it more obvious that something had indeed happened.
But since Wen Yao did not want to talk about it, Shi Yi did not push further.
“Offended him?” Wan Shuang repeated silently in her mind.
She thought hard about the novel’s plot but found nothing.
There had never been any mention of how the two met. Even after they got together, the novel only mentioned it in passing.
So the third male and female leads really had it bad. Not even proper scenes for them?
“By the way, Shi Yi-jie, when Yao Yao-jie found out I wasn’t actually a poor student like everyone thought, how did she react?” Wan Shuang asked, her eyes lighting up as she looked at Shi Yi.
Her eyes sparkled with playful curiosity. It seemed that revealing her true identity gave her a secret sense of satisfaction.
Shi Yi’s reply dimmed the sparkle in her eyes a little.
“She just asked if your brother was handsome.”
“…That sounds just like Wen Yao.”
The two of them started unpacking the groceries Wen Yao had bought and prepared to store them in the fridge.
But when they opened the fridge door and saw that it was already packed full, Wan Shuang gave an awkward laugh.
“Oh no, I forgot it was already full.”
Luckily, Shi Yi had not bought too many vegetables. Most of the items were snacks and fruits.
“Let’s just eat these then,” Shi Yi said while shaking the bag lightly.
Wan Shuang closed the fridge door and nodded.
“I’ll wash the vegetables.”
As she reached for the bag, her hand accidentally brushed against Shi Yi’s. Both of them froze.
But Shi Yi quickly regained her composure and turned away, carrying the bag toward the sink.
“I’ll do it,” she said and turned on the faucet.
The atmosphere between them became slightly tense.
To break the awkward silence, Wan Shuang slowly moved to stand beside Shi Yi, placing her hands behind her back.
“Shi Yi-jie, about last night…” she began.
“Yes?”
“After I got drunk… did I say anything?”
“You don’t remember?”
Wan Shuang nodded carefully.
“No, I don’t.”
“You said…” Shi Yi began, but then paused.
Wan Shuang’s heart jumped as she heard Shi Yi stretch out the word “said.” Her nerves were on high alert.
“What did I say?” she asked anxiously.
Did I really blurt out, “If I talk to you again, I’ll stop calling myself Wan”? That would be so embarrassing.
“You said…” Shi Yi continued, still teasing her with a pause.
Wan Shuang frowned and clenched her teeth nervously.
“You said you were a silly little pig,” Shi Yi said with a straight face, then couldn’t help but laugh first.
Shi Yi’s laughter was different from others. It was not loud or exaggerated. Instead, it was soft, pleasant, and delicate.
Hearing the gentle and charming sound of her laugh, a question mark seemed to appear above Wan Shuang’s head.
I really said something like that? Why would I call myself a pig?
Wan Shuang, who completely believed what Shi Yi told her, had no idea she was being tricked. Deep down, she blamed the fruit wine from “Huangtian” once again.
This wine is dangerous!
Still, as long as she did not say anything too embarrassing, she could live with it.
Her previously furrowed brow relaxed, and she joked, “I thought I confessed to you again.”
There had not been a confession, but there had been a kiss.
Shi Yi shook her head and did not respond to Wan Shuang’s teasing. Although she could tell Wan Shuang was joking, Shi Yi did not dare to reply.
Because sometimes, people reveal the truth through jokes.
Shi Yi had always believed that.
Thinking back to last night, when Wan Shuang suddenly kissed her and then murmured something about her face feeling warm, a faint blush appeared on Shi Yi’s cheeks.
Realizing her reaction, Shi Yi quickly changed the subject.
“Go ask Xiao Huang if the shop is busy.”
Xiao Huang was reliable. He could carry goods and manage the store. Shi Yi had a lot of faith in him.
That was why she felt completely at ease leaving the flower shop in his care while she came to see Wan Shuang.
“Alright,” Wan Shuang replied casually.
Neither of them noticed how natural and comfortable their interaction had become.
They were like a couple who had lived together for years. One was busy cooking, while the other could not help but watch and occasionally joke around or cause a little mischief.
“Xiao Huang said without you in the shop, Shi Yi-jie, even the flowers looked sad.”
What does that mean? Am I the sun?
“Xiao Huang really said that?” Shi Yi asked, lightly tapping Wan Shuang on the forehead.
Wan Shuang shook her head and grinned proudly.
“Hehe, I said it.”
Her face showed nothing but satisfaction.
It was clear Wan Shuang was happy that Shi Yi had come to see her.
Last night’s dinner gathering had ended on an awkward note.
The two people who had agreed to meet ended up leaving the room one after the other. Then she got drunk, all because of something Shi Yi said.
She could not remember why Shi Yi left and then came back into the room. She also did not know why Shi Yi had not taken her back to her own home.
Wan Shuang did not know what made Shi Yi return to the room. She did not plan to ask.
She had not looked at the call history. She rarely checked her contacts or call records.
She had no idea that a single phone call from her had made Shi Yi turn around and go back to the room she had just left.
But none of that mattered to Wan Shuang in this moment.
The person she had been thinking about was now standing in her kitchen, washing vegetables, cutting ingredients, and preparing seasonings. These were things she had never dared to imagine before.
Maybe even Shi Yi had not realized that when she gently tapped Wan Shuang’s forehead earlier, her gesture had carried a kind of intimacy.
It was something the two of them had not shared in the entire past month.
An hour later, three delicious dishes were placed neatly on the table by Wan Shuang.
Clapping her hands together, her eyes lit up as she said, “Shi Yi-jie, let’s take a photo.”
“Why?”
“We’ve known each other for a whole month now. Even when we went out of town before, we never took a single photo together. Let’s take one today, alright?”
Wan Shuang put her palms together and swayed slightly as she pleaded. Her brows were drawn close, lips gently pouting, as she looked at Shi Yi with a hopeful expression.
This was the first time little Yi Yi had cooked for her. How could they not keep a memory of it?
One day when they were older, they could look back at the photo and remember this as a beautiful moment.
Shi Yi found it difficult to say no to Wan Shuang whenever she acted like a child. She could neither refuse nor easily agree.
In the end, she nodded gently and whispered, “Alright.”
At that moment, Wan Cheng was in the airport lounge reviewing some documents for his upcoming business trip when his phone suddenly vibrated.
He unlocked it to find a notification related to his sister.
He had set up special alerts for everything Wan Shuang posted.
Anytime she updated her status, he would be the first to know.
With a raised brow and a faint smile, Wan Cheng opened the update.
But within a second, the smile on his face disappeared. His handsome brows furrowed tightly, and he stared at the screen without blinking.
