All I Want Is to Hold the Heroine in My Arms [Transmigration into a Book] - Chapter 4
Wen Yao found some free time today, so she picked up a small chocolate cake from a bakery and headed to Yu She.
Ding-a-ling~
As she pushed open the door, Wen Yao immediately saw what the two people inside were doing.
Shi Yi, who normally would be carefully tending to her beautiful flowers, was instead holding a curling iron, fussing with the hair of the newly hired shop assistant.
Neither of them noticed Wen Yao’s arrival. One was focused on styling hair, the other was staring into a mirror, completely absorbed.
Wan Shuang was gazing at Shi Yi’s reflection in the mirror and cheerfully said, “Sister Shi Yi, you’re so talented at hairstyling~ it looks amazing!”
Wen Yao slowly walked over, frowning as she took in Wan Shuang’s messy, frizzy hair. She swallowed hard.
This young girl is so young, yet her sense of style is so questionable?
“Yaoyao? What brings you here?” Shi Yi looked up and was delighted to see Wen Yao suddenly appear.
“I had a little free time and thought I’d drop by to see you.” Wen Yao reached out and ruffled Wan Shuang’s hair. “What are you two doing?”
“Xiaoshuang asked me to give her a new hairstyle. What do you think? Doesn’t it look good?” Shi Yi put away the curling iron and pretended to sprinkle imaginary flowers over Wan Shuang’s head, as if waiting for praise.
In that moment, Shi Yi was like a teenager, proudly showing off something she was excited about, eager for approval.
That was always how Shi Yi was in the novel. She would do things adults might find childish, but she’d always find joy in them. Of course, she only showed this side of herself to people she was comfortable with.
Wan Shuang also reached up and touched the explosion of curls Shi Yi had created. A faint, sweet smile curved her lips. She had only suggested the idea casually, not expecting Shi Yi to actually agree, let alone be so gentle and patient in doing it for her.
“It’s…,” Wen Yao was about to say “ugly,” but before the word could leave her mouth, Wan Shuang interrupted quickly, “It’s super cute! Right, Sister Yaoyao?”
Seeing Wan Shuang’s exaggerated winks and pleading eyes, Wen Yao could only nod and force a smile. “You definitely have the potential to be a great hairstylist.”
With that encouragement, Shi Yi clapped her hands. “Yaoyao, sit down! Let me do yours next!”
“Um… that’s really not necessary.”
Wen Yao quickly placed the little cake on the table, stepped back, and said, “I just remembered, I still have some work at the office. I should head out! We’ll catch up later, alright?” She gave Wan Shuang a playful wink as she waved goodbye. “Little sister~ be kind to me.”
With that, she turned and left decisively, not hesitating for even a second.
Wen Yao had come unexpectedly, and left just as suddenly.
Leaving the two inside a bit bewildered.
“All done, Xiaoshuang.” Shi Yi still had a cheerful tone. “Go deliver that bouquet of baby’s breath to Mr. Xu at the shop next door.”
Wan Shuang, still admiring her new hairstyle, quickly got up, picked up the bouquet, and headed next door.
She had been working at the flower shop for two weeks now. Every day, Mr. Xu next door ordered a bouquet of baby’s breath to give to his wife.
Since Wan Shuang delivered them every day, she and Mr. Xu had gotten to know each other.
Seeing her walk in with a wild, curly hairstyle and flowers in hand, Mr. Xu joked, “Did you offend your hairstylist or something?”
Wan Shuang blinked in confusion at the sudden comment.
Mr. Xu pointed at her hair.
Just as he expected her to complain about the hairstylist’s skills, the girl who had walked in with a blank expression suddenly broke into a sweet smile.
Holding onto the hem of her shirt, she looked a little shy. “Brother Xu, do you think it looks nice too?” she asked. Before he could even answer, she added, “I think so too!”
Then she bounced out the door, humming a tune as she left.
Back in the flower shop…
— Miss Shi, I’m waiting for you at the Japanese restaurant from last time.
Shi Yi glanced at the newly received text message, her brows furrowing and a hint of irritation appearing on her face.
She let out a deep breath, then tapped quickly on her phone.
— Sorry, Mr. Jing, the shop is very busy today.
Less than a minute after she sent it, a new message came in.
— Then I’ll come to the shop to see you.
Shi Yi saw the message at the exact moment Wan Shuang came back inside.
“Xiaoshuang, we’re closing early today. You can go home and rest,” she said, her tone not as cheerful as before.
Wan Shuang immediately noticed the change in her mood. She walked over and held onto Shi Yi’s arm. “Sister Shi Yi, what’s wrong? Something bothering you?”
The sudden closeness made Shi Yi a little uncomfortable, but strangely, she didn’t pull away.
The fresh scent of gardenia on Wan Shuang seemed to calm her restless mood a little. As she glanced at the phone screen again, where another new message had popped up, Shi Yi said lightly, “It’s just someone I don’t like is coming here. I thought I’d close up to avoid him.”
Standing right beside her, Wan Shuang caught a glimpse of the sender’s name, Jing Yijie.
Her brows knitted together slightly, her face full of confusion.
Didn’t she already leak information to Jing Yijie’s rival company? They should have already launched a counterattack. Shouldn’t Jing Yijie be too busy handling all that? How does he still have time to bother my little Yiyi?
Don’t tell me he already resolved everything?
No wonder he’s the male lead of the novel, he handles problems so fast.
Looks like next time, I’ll need to send that rival company even more info, just to make sure Jing Yijie won’t have a single moment to spare.
Just as Wan Shuang was thinking of a new way to mess with Jing Yijie, she heard Shi Yi say she wanted to avoid him. Wan Shuang smiled and, in a playful and slightly teasing tone, said, “Then, Sister Shi Yi, do you want to come with me to a fun place?”
Half an hour later, when Jing Yijie arrived at the flower shop, all he saw was the closed white roll-up door.
The woman he had been longing for had disappeared without a trace.
“Where’s Xiaoshuang?” Wan Cheng looked at the empty seat across the dining table and asked with a frown.
Aunt Wang stood nearby and calmly replied, “Miss told me she won’t be coming home for lunch today.”
Wan Cheng’s expression darkened. “She hasn’t eaten at home in two whole weeks. She’s always leaving early and coming back late…”
Then a thought struck him. His eyes lit up slightly. “Aunt Wang, do you think Xiaoshuang might be dating someone?”
He looked anxious now, gripping his chopsticks before throwing them onto the table. His wide eyes stared at Aunt Wang, waiting for an answer.
Unexpectedly, Aunt Wang laughed out loud and clapped her hands. “Really? Then she should bring the guy home next time so we can all have a look.”
“Aunt Wang!” Wan Cheng suddenly shouted. “Xiaoshuang is still too young! I won’t allow her to date anyone!”
Aunt Wang, clearly annoyed by his sudden outburst, said nothing and turned straight back into the kitchen.
Now fully convinced that his sister was in a relationship, Wan Cheng was practically fuming. He grabbed his phone and called his assistant. “Find out where my sister is right now. I want her location within twenty minutes. If you can’t do that, start packing your things.”
Thirty minutes later, Wan Cheng’s car pulled up in front of a clay art studio.
A staff member standing at the entrance saw a tall man in an expensive shirt step out of a luxury car. His expression was cold and unreadable, and the deep lines between his brows made it clear that people should stay out of his way.
Wan Cheng looked up at the studio’s sign, lips pressed tightly together. Without a word, he walked straight inside.
Inside the studio, Wan Shuang’s eyes were locked on Shi Yi. Seeing the happiness in Shi Yi’s eyes made her feel just as happy.
In the novel, it was written that whenever Shi Yi was upset or had a fight with Jing Yijie, she would come to this clay shop to make something by hand.
Shi Yi didn’t stop her movements as she responded, “I thought I was the only one who liked this kind of thing. I didn’t expect you to enjoy it too.”
Her voice carried the kind of surprise and joy you’d have when finding someone with the same interests.
Wan Shuang was sitting very close to Shi Yi, close enough to smell the soft, clean scent on her body. Her hair had the faint fragrance of fresh shampoo.
Her skin was fair and smooth, her cheeks looked soft and tender, and a few loose strands of hair curled near her ears. She looked almost dreamlike.
Just as Wan Shuang was about to lean in and kiss Shi Yi’s cheek, she caught a glimpse of someone standing at the door.
Her heart skipped a beat.
Wan Cheng? What is he doing here?
Forget it, she thought. He’s not important right now. Kissing Sister Shi Yi is.
She ignored him and leaned in again, her lips only inches away from Shi Yi’s face when her mind finally caught up.
Wait a second. Wan Cheng?!
What is he doing here?!
Wan Shuang jumped up from her stool, the sudden movement startling Shi Yi.
“What’s wrong?” Shi Yi asked. From her position, she couldn’t see the entrance and had no idea someone was watching them.
“It’s nothing, Sister Shi Yi. I’ll be right back.” After saying that, Wan Shuang rushed outside.
Once outside, she pulled Wan Cheng to the side and asked in disbelief, “Brother, what are you doing here?”
“Hmph.” Wan Cheng turned his head away and refused to look at her.
“If you’re not going to tell me, I’m leaving.”
The moment she said that, he quickly looked back at her.
“You haven’t had a single meal with me in two weeks,” Wan Cheng said with a hurt expression as he reached out to mess up her frizzy curls. “You don’t eat with me, but you’re here playing with clay with someone else.”
“Uh…” Wan Shuang was about to comfort him when she noticed from the corner of her eye that Shi Yi had stood up. She quickly pushed Wan Cheng away and said, “Brother, go back first. I promise I’ll have dinner with you tonight.”
Hearing her promise and seeing that Wan Shuang wasn’t with some guy, Wan Cheng’s mood improved a lot.
He remembered that he still had work waiting and didn’t plan to stay long. As he ruffled her fluffy hair again, he seemed much happier and smiled. “Your hairstyle looks pretty good today.”
After saying that, he turned and left.
Back in his car, Wan Cheng sent a photo of Shi Yi to his assistant and said, “I want all the information you can find on this woman within twenty minutes.”
He had seen it clearly. His sister had been just about to kiss this woman.
Wan Cheng was certain that this was the reason Wan Shuang hadn’t eaten a single meal with him for two weeks.
