All I Want Is to Hold the Heroine in My Arms [Transmigration into a Book] - Chapter 6
The hallway was completely silent. Only the distant sound of cars honking on the street could be heard.
Wan Shuang’s face was flushed all the way to her ears, and her heart was racing. She unconsciously tightened her grip on Shi Yi’s hand.
This was Wan Shuang’s first time liking someone, and also her first time confessing her feelings.
She had never been in a relationship before. Right now, she was like a high schooler experiencing her first crush—awkward, nervous, and sweet.
She had once said she would help Jian Xizhuo pursue Shi Yi, only because she knew the character settings and preferences from the novel.
She could rely on tricks and inside knowledge.
But the moment she said the words “I like you,” Wan Shuang realized that knowing the plot and personalities might not be a good thing after all.
According to the Shi Yi in the novel, she would likely pretend she hadn’t heard the confession and try to change the subject.
Shi Yi never allowed herself to fall into uncomfortable situations.
One minute passed. Then two. Then three…
Nearly five minutes went by without either of them speaking, until the buzzing of a phone suddenly broke the awkward silence between them.
It was Shi Yi’s phone.
She was holding it in her right hand, and it just so happened that Wan Shuang had been holding that same wrist.
The buzzing continued as if pushing her to act. Wan Shuang slowly let go of Shi Yi’s hand so she could answer the call.
As she released her grip, she noticed faint red marks on Shi Yi’s pale, delicate wrist. She could still feel the soft touch lingering in her palm. Seeing the red imprint, Wan Shuang looked down and gently rubbed her fingers together.
Shi Yi glanced at the screen. Her voice dropped slightly. “Dad.”
Hearing her call out the word “Dad,” Wan Shuang, who had her head lowered, looked up briefly, then quickly looked away again.
Shi Yi’s father, Shi Xiangnan, was a middle-aged man in his fifties.
In the novel, Shi Yi and her father had a difficult relationship. When she was fifteen, Shi Xiangnan had an affair with a college girl in her twenties. Her mother fell into depression because of it and passed away less than three years later.
The father-daughter relationship deteriorated after that and never improved.
By the end of the novel, Shi Yi had completely cut ties with the Shi family.
“Why did it take you so long to answer?” came Shi Xiangnan’s harsh voice from the other end.
Shi Yi shot a glance at Wan Shuang, who was still standing there quietly with her head down. She stepped a few paces to the side and said coldly, “I was busy.” Before he could respond, she asked, “What do you need?”
“Can’t I call you without a reason?” he snapped. But since Shi Yi didn’t reply, he got straight to the point. “Tonight at seven. S.Y. Restaurant.”
And just like that, he hung up, not even waiting for an answer.
The long beep of the ended call echoed in Shi Yi’s ears as she quietly put her phone back into her bag.
She turned to look at the girl who still hadn’t lifted her head and let out a quiet sigh. “Come on. I’ll take you home.”
On the way back, the car was almost completely silent. Other than Shi Yi asking where Wan Shuang lived, neither of them said a word.
Wan Shuang wanted to talk. She really did. But after that phone call, Shi Yi’s whole energy had changed. She became withdrawn and heavy-hearted.
It made Wan Shuang too afraid to speak.
When the car finally stopped outside Wan Shuang’s apartment complex, she held onto the seatbelt tightly and said, “Sister Shi Yi, I really do like you.”
“It’s not just a casual kind of like. I want to be in a relationship with you.”
She turned her head to the left, staring at Shi Yi’s profile as she added, a little nervously, “I hope you’ll consider it and give me an answer.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, she unbuckled the seatbelt and rushed out of the car.
It was as if she was afraid that if she stayed even one second longer, she’d hear a rejection. So she ran, almost as if fleeing the scene.
Shi Yi didn’t drive off right away. She sat there quietly, looking at the now-empty passenger seat, deep in thought.
It wasn’t until twenty minutes later that the car slowly pulled away from the gate.
Lying on her bed, Wan Shuang hugged the one-meter-tall plush bear that Wan Cheng had once given to the original version of herself. She tossed and turned restlessly.
Now that Shi Yi’s beautiful face was no longer in front of her, Wan Shuang’s mind was much clearer.
With a sudden jolt, she sat up straight, grabbed the plush bear, and started punching it as she scolded herself.
“Wan Shuang! Why couldn’t you just keep your mouth shut?!”
“Why do you blurt everything out the second you see Shi Yi’s face?!”
“You said you’d take it slow, didn’t you?! Build feelings over time?!”
“How did you end up confessing so suddenly?!”
“Wan Shuang, you’re no better than a pig!”
She kept yelling at herself for nearly half an hour. By the time she stopped, the once-soft plush bear was wrinkled, bent, and nearly unrecognizable.
Truly, beauty is dangerous.
Now, Wan Shuang finally understood why those rulers in history fell under the spell of beautiful women.
If she hadn’t been completely dazzled by Shi Yi’s looks, she wouldn’t have spilled everything in her heart the second she got a compliment.
Her original plan was to take things slow, gradually get close to Shi Yi, and only confess when the time was right.
But the moment Shi Yi said she looked pretty, she had completely lost control.
Shaking her head in frustration, Wan Shuang sighed and muttered, “Forget it. I’ll have to come up with a new plan.”
She got up, walked over to her desk, picked up a pen, and started writing in her notebook…
Yu Cheng Group, second floor.
Inside Wan Cheng’s Office
Secretary Mo Qing placed the investigation report on Wan Cheng’s desk and spoke softly. “President Wan, this is the information you asked me to look into.”
“Alright.” Wan Cheng set down the document he had been reading and picked up the folder Mo Qing had just placed in front of him.
Five seconds after opening it, his cold voice rang through the office. “She’s Shi Xiangnan’s daughter?”
Because Shi Yi had never attended business events and had never appeared in media coverage, Wan Cheng had never seen her before. Even Mo Qing had put in tremendous effort just to gather this limited amount of information.
“Yes,” Mo Qing confirmed.
Wan Cheng flipped through the documents in silence. His expression darkened the moment he saw the last page.
It showed that his little sister had been working at a flower shop owned by Shi Yi for the past two weeks.
After reading everything, Wan Cheng’s face was unreadable as he said to Mo Qing, “Book a restaurant for me.”
Mo Qing nodded and asked, “Who will you be dining with, sir?”
“Xiaoshuang.”
When Wan Cheng said her name, his always-cold voice carried a rare trace of affection. Even though Mo Qing knew Wan Shuang was his younger sister, he still raised his eyebrows slightly in surprise.
This man, who was often called the “Cold-faced King” by his employees, only ever showed a hint of warmth when speaking about Miss Wan.
Mo Qing still remembered the time when Miss Wan had come to visit the company during a minor earthquake.
Although no one was hurt, Wan Cheng had immediately moved his office from the thirtieth floor to the second floor afterward.
When Mo Qing asked why, Wan Cheng said it was so that if Xiaoshuang ever visited again during a stronger earthquake, he could evacuate her quickly and safely.
“I’ll make the arrangements now,” Mo Qing replied respectfully, regaining his composure.
Just as Wan Shuang finished writing her new plan, her phone rang. It was a call from Wan Cheng.
“Brother?”
“Xiaoshuang!” Wan Cheng’s voice came through, sounding uncharacteristically excited. “I’ve already booked a restaurant! But I’ve got some work to take care of first. Can you head there ahead of me?”
“We’re not eating at home?” Wan Shuang asked in surprise.
“Of course not! This is the first time in two weeks you’re having dinner with your brother. We have to eat somewhere nice!”
Wan Shuang had already gotten used to Wan Cheng’s over-the-top tone, so she just replied calmly, “Alright.”
“I had Mo Qing send the location to your phone!”
Mo Qing?
Who was that?
Wan Shuang pulled out her notebook and flipped through it.
Oh, right. Wan Cheng’s secretary.
She found Mo Qing’s name and details noted down and replied, “Got it, brother.”
Then she hung up the call.
Wan Shuang had been inside the book world for two weeks now, and she had already started to forget some of the characters and events from the novel. She gave her notebook a proud pat and said smugly, “Good thing I was smart enough to write everything down the moment I arrived.”
After a pause, she added arrogantly, “Otherwise, how would I even know who Mo Qing is?”
6:50 PM, S.Y. Restaurant
Mo Qing dropped Wan Shuang off at the entrance before driving away.
She adjusted her dress, then followed a waiter inside.
S.Y. Restaurant was one of the most upscale French restaurants in City M. One of its strictest rules was that all guests must wear formal attire.
This caused Wan Shuang quite a bit of trouble.
She had grown up wearing sportswear and wasn’t used to dresses at all. And the clothes left behind by the original version of herself? All low-cut and short-skirted.
Feeling very uncomfortable, she kept her hands over her slightly exposed chest. What should have been a one-minute walk into the restaurant felt unbearably long.
After sitting down, with nothing else to do, Wan Shuang started playing with her phone.
Five minutes later, a deep and magnetic male voice suddenly came from above her.
“Xiaoshuang? What are you doing here?”
Wan Shuang looked up and saw a strikingly handsome man standing beside her table.
He had soft brown hair, bright clear eyes, and a tall nose. His smile curved like a crescent moon, charming and luminous.
If not for the original Wan Shuang’s memories telling her that this man was Jing Yijie, she would have definitely jumped up and asked to take a photo with him.
Just as she was struggling with how to respond to this male lead she disliked, Jing Yijie waved past her shoulder and said gently, “Miss Shi, over here.”
