All the Female Protagonists Who Have Been Saved Have Become Obsessed [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 29.2
Zhou Xi returned, watching them rehearse.
Chunshui’s lines were full, delivering half-effort yet overpowering the others, especially Litchi. As Fule, Litchi guided Tang Huai but seemed flat compared to Chunshui’s skill.
Director Zhang corrected her multiple times, putting her under pressure.
Director Zhang gestured animatedly, “Fule and Tang Huai, mind your positions. This is Tang Huai’s awakening. Fule, be firmer. You pity her, not love her yet. Your eyes have too much affection.”
Chunshui glanced aside, saw Zhou Xi, and smiled.
Zhou Xi thought Chunshui was too focused to notice her. She held up an ice pack, signaling she’d gone to buy it. Huang Xiaoyun had said Chunshui was looking for her.
Chunshui nodded. Director Zhang dismissed them, giving thirty minutes to memorize lines before shooting.
In the last scene, the male actor, too immersed, pushed Chunshui hard, causing her leg to hit a stool. Zhou Xi, watching, couldn’t stand it and bought an ice pack and cooling spray.
Chunshui sat. Zhou Xi lifted her pant leg to treat her.
Her leg was bruised, stark against her fair skin. Zhou Xi knew it was likely minor, but her heart sank.
Chunshui watched, amused, as Zhou Xi worked, her face serious, brows furrowed, visibly pained, which Chunshui enjoyed.
Doctor Zhou was worried about her.
“Doctor Zhou seems to only serve me on set,” Chunshui teased.
Zhou Xi sighed, “I’d rather none of you got hurt.”
“Including me?” Chunshui asked.
Zhou Xi hesitated, “Including you.”
“Doctor Zhou’s answers are always so reluctant,” Chunshui sighed. “Am I pushing you again? I thought I gave you enough time to think.”
Zhou Xi’s hand paused on Chunshui’s leg, then continued. Looking at the bruises, her heart ached again, “You already guessed.”
Chunshui’s eyes lit up, “Is Doctor Zhou’s answer what I think?”
Zhou Xi’s cheeks reddened, “Yes, I did feel my heart stir for you.” Sensing Chunshui lean closer, she pressed the bruise. Chunshui hissed, clearly feeling pain. Zhou Xi smirked, looking serious, “But it’s not love yet.”
Chunshui’s smile grew, “What would make Doctor Zhou love me?”
“Do your job first,” Zhou Xi patted her leg. “How’s it feel? Still hurt?”
“Doctor Zhou handled it well,” Chunshui praised.
Seeing Chunshui shift closer, Zhou Xi stood, “Director Zhang gave you thirty minutes to memorize lines. Work first.”
Chunshui grabbed her sleeve, “Will Doctor Zhou be here while I work?”
“I will,” Zhou Xi patted her hand. Chunshui let go.
“Then wait for me, Doctor Zhou.”
Zhou Xi waved, stepping out to stand with Huang Xiaoyun.
Huang Xiaoyun was scheduling Chunshui’s itinerary. Though filming, Chunshui had other work. Fang Yan hadn’t found a new agent, so Huang Xiaoyun was filling in, valuing the opportunity.
Zhou Xi basked in the sun, relaxed. Talking openly with Chunshui felt like soaking in a hot spring, comforting. As they did their tasks, Zhou Xi heard the director yell “cut” inside, signaling the scene’s end. The system suddenly warned, “Li Xia’s people are moving! The set’s lights are faulty!”
Zhou Xi rushed in!
Huang Xiaoyun looked up, hearing chaos from the set.
“The main light fell!”
“Anyone hurt?”
“Everyone okay?”
Huang Xiaoyun stood frozen outside the studio, the interior pitch-black.
The indoor set was in a rented studio. The fallen light caused a short circuit, blacking out all lights.
Huang Xiaoyun, frantic, grabbed someone, “Did you see Chunshui?”
“No!” they shouted, rushing to save equipment.
“Forget the gear! What about people? Anyone hurt?” Director Zhang was helped up. The falling light sparked like a whip. He’d been shocked, body still trembling.
No answer came; the scene was chaos.
“Stop!” Director Zhang grabbed a megaphone, “Don’t move! Evacuate! Props team, Old Li, you there?”
“Here!”
“Check if it’s a tripped breaker! Get the lights on! Others, get out! Don’t get shocked!”
“Where’s the assistant director? Count heads! Check for injuries!”
“Here!”
Voices responded. People helped each other out, calming under the sunlight, relieved.
The assistant director checked the sign-in sheet, heart sinking—two missing: actress Chunshui and doctor Zhou Xi!
He rushed the list to Director Zhang, who was waiting for power. Seeing it, he was shocked!
Director Zhang forced calm, “They’ll be fine!” An accident would ruin the film!
“Power’s back!”
The studio’s backup lights came on, dim. Director Zhang and others searched with flashlights.
“See anyone?”
“Anything over there?”
The studio was vast, with broken wires still sparking.
Director Zhang’s heart sank, “Chunshui? Zhou Xi? You there?”
A weak voice answered, “Here.”
Director Zhang recognized Chunshui, “Quiet, everyone, I heard her.”
“Where are you?!”
“Here, cough, here.”
Tears slid from Chunshui’s eyes, “I’m here. Save Doctor Zhou.”
Flashlights found them. Chunshui’s face was dusty, Zhou Xi slumped on her, a heavy chain on her shoulder, unconscious.
Chunshui didn’t dare move. After “cut,” the crew left. Her legs ached from standing. Then the light crashed, blinding her. Her legs gave out, like three years ago, powerless.
“Watch out!” Zhou Xi had lunged, shielding Chunshui’s head, diving forward. The chain hit her shoulder, rolling them both. The shock and current knocked them out.
A wire lay across Zhou Xi’s leg. No one dared approach until firefighters in insulated gear carried them out. Chunshui had minor injuries; Zhou Xi’s shoulder bled through her shirt. On the ambulance, Chunshui sat despairing.
Doctor Zhou had just admitted her heart stirred for her. How could this happen?
Huang Xiaoyun’s hands shook as she called Fang Yan, “The set had an accident! I’m going to the hospital with the boss! Come quick!”
She jumped into the ambulance with Chunshui.
Zhou Xi’s breathing was weak. She opened her eyes, saw Chunshui, fingers twitching. Chunshui sat stunned. Zhou Xi’s pain was blocked by the system, but her strength was gone. Her task wasn’t done; she wouldn’t die.
The oxygen mask stopped her from speaking. She wanted to tell Chunshui it wasn’t her fault.
She’d underestimated Li Xia, expecting minor trouble, not a real attempt on Chunshui’s life.
Zhou Xi’s vision darkened. She couldn’t say it, fainting. Though pain was blocked, her body’s limits kept her unconscious.
When she woke, it felt like another lifetime.
White room, white walls, hospital gown, the familiar smell of disinfectant.
No one seemed present. Zhou Xi closed her eyes, “System, what time is it?”
The system’s mechanical voice answered, “Host, it’s been three days since you passed out.”
That long? Zhou Xi frowned.
“Is Chunshui okay?”
“The female lead is fine.”
“The set?”
“Secured by police.”
Zhou Xi relaxed, feeling shoulder pain flare.
“Didn’t I tell you to block my pain?”
System: “During rescue, blocking pain caused your vitals to drop. To continue the task, I unblocked it.”
Zhou Xi forgot that detail.
Lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, she was bored.
As she zoned out, the door opened.
Someone moved quietly. Zhou Xi thought it was a nurse until she felt a warm towel on her feet. Someone was cleaning her. Tilting her head, she saw Chunshui.
Her hair was in a low ponytail, draped over her left shoulder, using a warm towel to clean Zhou Xi’s feet. The doctor said it would improve circulation. Chunshui remembered Zhou Xi’s warmth but found her feet cold, her expression dim.
Zhou Xi spoke, “Chun, Chunshui.”
After three days silent, her voice stuttered.
Chunshui didn’t respond.
Zhou Xi: ?
She called again, “Chunshui.”
Chunshui thought she was hallucinating. These days, she dreamt Zhou Xi calling her, but she stayed unconscious. Looking up, she saw light brown eyes watching her.
Chunshui froze, dropping the towel.
Zhou Xi was awake.
Tears fell as she lunged, hugging Zhou Xi’s neck, sobbing, “You scared me to death!”
Li Xia: Go die!
Zhou Xi: Block.
Failed to block, K.O.
Team stamina down one.
