It was an unbearably hot and humid day.

She also said that his father would probably be in the same situation, so he should manage dinner with whatever was in the fridge, or with pre-prepared or frozen food.

Reiji replied that he understood and hung up, only for the phone to ring again almost immediately. It was his father, with exactly the same message. Both of his parents were quite worried, but Reiji was at the age where he would be entering high school next year, and he didn’t mind being alone for one night. In fact, he felt a sense of excitement at the unusual situation.

The sky gradually darkened, and as the storm outside continued to howl with fierce winds and rain, Reiji prepared some cup of noodles and side dishes from the fridge, heating them up in the microwave and eating them.

After quickly finishing his makeshift dinner, Reiji laid back down on the sofa. A brilliant light suddenly flashed through the window, and a moment later, a loud, thunderous sound echoed through the house.

“Whoa!”

Reiji flinched for a moment and then approached the window.

While blankly watching the trees and power lines sway violently in the storm, and the lightning streaking across the sky, the doorbell suddenly rang.
