Amnesiac Yandere Ex-Wife Always Wants to Remarry - Chapter 11
Chapter 11: She Stared at Her.
Although Qiao Guan was ostensibly the therapist assigned to the Combat Squad, her rank was equal to the squad’s, reporting directly to Chu Yu. Thus, she was familiar with all of Xia Pingwu’s physical conditions.
Ruan Zhujun immediately seized the opportunity and pointed at Ming Chunshan: “Help me check thoroughly. Is it because your Team Leader Ming leaked Anomaly power that caused our Pingwu’s Anomaly power turbulence and subsequent amnesia?”
“I already told you no…”
Ming Chunshan ignored her and nudged Xia Pingwu toward Qiao Guan:
“Elder Sister had a slight fever a few days ago. Could there be some undiscovered adverse drug reaction from the enhanced inhibitor?”
The test results came back quickly, showing that neither of those was the cause.
However, even with the tests, the cause of the amnesia could not be determined.
Qiao Guan could only record Xia Pingwu’s various physical data, promised to expedite this month’s routine physical examination, and report the results as quickly as possible.
Before leaving, Qiao Guan stood at the door, staring intently at Ming Chunshan: “I will hurry the test results. During this time, you can refrain from using the enhanced inhibitor, but the ‘bl00d exchange’ treatment must continue.”
Ming Chunshan assented. Ruan Zhujun finally left with her things, and the room quickly returned to its former silence.
The food was reheated by Ming Chunshan. As Xia Pingwu lowered her head to eat, she noticed in her peripheral vision that Ming Chunshan was constantly watching her.
But every time she looked up, Ming Chunshan would pretend nothing was wrong and look past her at the decorations on the wall.
Even ten years ago, Xia Pingwu was past the age for this kind of hide-and-seek game. So, she put down her chopsticks and looked up at Ming Chunshan: “What is it?”
Ming Chunshan’s gaze reluctantly dropped from the decorations, trying too hard to seem casual: “It’s been a long time since I cooked… Is the food still to your liking?”
“Everything you make is delicious,” Xia Pingwu said truthfully, but found that Ming Chunshan’s gaze darted away again.
Xia Pingwu found it strange but couldn’t pinpoint the problem, so she continued to look at Ming Chunshan.
Usually, if she just kept looking, Chunshan would tell her the answer herself.
Sure enough, in a moment, Ming Chunshan spoke: “Ruan Zhujun… is a good person.”
Xia Pingwu nodded: “I know. I can tell.”
“But I definitely like you more,” Ming Chunshan said with conviction. “So I think the person you like most must be me.”
Xia Pingwu understood. The question she had asked Ruan Zhujun earlier had been overheard by Ming Chunshan.
This sentiment was often expressed when they were Senior and Junior Sisters, but saying it now felt somewhat strange.
She subconsciously curled her fingers, still thinking of a reply, when that familiar hand covered hers again.
Ming Chunshan held Xia Pingwu’s hand, her expression sincere:
“Don’t be afraid. I will always be by your side.”
Xia Pingwu lowered her gaze, not replying immediately.
Xia Pingwu was too well-behaved like this. Ming Chunshan’s heart warmed. She was about to say more when Xia Pingwu suddenly looked up.
She looked at Ming Chunshan and seriously asked: “Then can I go to the Bureau of Anomalies with you?”
The question immediately brought back memories for Ming Chunshan of the previous night, where Elder Sister had held her hand on the soft bed and told her she wanted to stand side-by-side with her.
Ming Chunshan felt a warmth surge in her chest, and immediately agreed: “I’ll take you, but…”
Before she could finish, Xia Pingwu immediately squeezed Ming Chunshan’s hand back, even her eyes and eyebrows showing a hint of a smile: “Then I can also go to the Training Room, right?”
Ming Chunshan abruptly let go of her hand.
The implied answer was too obvious.
Xia Pingwu also released her hand and turned back.
This matter was an untouchable sore point for Ming Chunshan. She was unwilling to compromise, and neither of them spoke a word until dinner.
When it was time to sleep, Ming Chunshan finished washing up in the guest room. After pacing back and forth an unknown number of times, she finally couldn’t help but come to Xia Pingwu’s door.
Although Elder Sister’s body wasn’t suited for the Training Room, perhaps Elder Sister’s current understanding of the situation wasn’t deep enough.
As her wife, she should communicate patiently, not be so rigid.
She was wrong in this. She should apologize and not let emotions linger overnight.
So, Ming Chunshan took a deep breath, then grabbed the doorknob—
It didn’t turn.
She tried again, disbelievingly.
It was truly locked.
Ming Chunshan sighed and started knocking: “Elder Sister, I was wrong, but I’m also worried about your health. Your body is not suitable for…”
Before she could finish, she heard a “click”, and the door was opened from the inside.
Xia Pingwu slipped out of the room, looking at Ming Chunshan. Then, in front of Ming Chunshan, she held up her laptop.
The laptop screen wasn’t large, but it was very clear, and the data on the physical examination report was even clearer.
But even if it wasn’t clear, it didn’t matter.
Ming Chunshan knew almost every line of Xia Pingwu’s physical examination reports by heart. The one she was showing now was her latest report from last month.
The medical advice on it read: “Good recovery. Can perform rehabilitation with the help of the enhanced inhibitor.”
Ming Chunshan sighed again: “This time’s results aren’t out yet, and you shouldn’t use the enhanced inhibitor for now. It’s safer to stick to the ‘bl00d exchange’ treatment…”
Xia Pingwu closed the laptop and took a step back: “Alright, then. I’m sick.”
Ming Chunshan sighed in relief. She took a step closer, wanting to follow Xia Pingwu into the room, when she saw Xia Pingwu look up, a faint smile playing on her lips.
Ming Chunshan was momentarily stunned.
In that brief moment, Xia Pingwu closed the door, her voice firm:
“Therefore, you are the indispensable Team Leader of the Bureau of Anomalies Combat Squad and cannot afford any mistakes. For your health, it’s better if we sleep in separate rooms.”
Sh1t, she walked right into that.
It’s all Elder Sister’s fault for smiling at her like that.
Inside the room, Xia Pingwu sat back on the bed with her laptop, examining every file on it.
Since the Great War seven years ago, all updates to the Combat Squad files on her laptop had stopped. It wasn’t hard to imagine that all classified documents had also been thoroughly deleted.
She could only access the Bureau of Anomalies’ public website and read through all the reports covering the last ten years, learning more about the Second Great War and generally catching up on the current situation of Anomaly specialist combat.
When she closed all the web pages, the last thought remaining in Xia Pingwu’s mind was—
It was clear that in the seven years following the Second Great War, there was no trace of data about Xia Pingwu.
She, Xia Pingwu, had completely withdrawn from the Anomaly world.
While she was deep in thought, she heard the sound of a key turning in the lock.
Although she had locked the door, there was still a physical way to open it, and there were spare keys in the house.
Xia Pingwu pursed her lips and stayed silent until a shadow fell across the doorway. Her gaze shifted from the computer screen to the person at the door: “What is it?”
“If you really want to go to the Training Room, you can.” Ming Chunshan offered a cup of warm water. “However, you must wait until the physical examination report comes out.”
The person at the door looked in, her eyes gazing at Xia Pingwu with a pitiful, puppy-like, watery pleading.
To be honest, Xia Pingwu felt a little soft-hearted.
She put the laptop aside, got out of bed, and walked over to Ming Chunshan:
“Okay.”
Ming Chunshan nodded, her eyes thoughtfully scanning the laptop Xia Pingwu had set aside. She offered a casual smile:
“Did you find anything interesting?”
“No,” Xia Pingwu shook her head, then looked up at Ming Chunshan: “Otherwise… why don’t you help me check?”
“I said I won’t look at your computer.”
She said this while backing away, but Ming Chunshan didn’t leave the doorway, standing and watching Xia Pingwu, hinting at something: “Elder Sister, I agreed, you see…”
As she spoke, she deliberately took a long look at the bed, then turned her eyes back to Xia Pingwu, smiling with her eyes.
Xia Pingwu quickly understood and immediately nodded readily: “I won’t lock the door. Go back and sleep quickly.”
Ming Chunshan’s eyebrows immediately drooped. She reluctantly backed away: “Elder Sister…”
Xia Pingwu seized the opportunity to move forward, closing the door: “You’re an adult now. You have to learn to sleep alone. I promise, only when my physical examination report comes back clear can I feel comfortable sleeping with you.”
“But…” Ming Chunshan mumbled a few words. Seeing the door about to close little by little, she suddenly reached out, pushed the door open with some force, and held it.
Xia Pingwu was about to ask her, but then she saw Ming Chunshan suddenly lean in, her voice very low: “It’s not too much to ask for a bedtime gift, is it?”
Then, a moist, warm kiss was gently placed on Xia Pingwu’s forehead.
After closing the door, Xia Pingwu didn’t sleep.
She reopened her computer, skipped past the applications she had already examined, and simply clicked a few icons. Then, the screen suddenly went dark.
A blue light instantly illuminated her face. Following that, a familiar unlock question appeared before her.
The question seemed simple, asking her to input a person’s name.
However, the question only specified a person’s name, with no other hints.
In the morning, she had tentatively entered her own name.
Unfortunately, the result was, “Error.”
At that time, she was wondering whether to ask Ming Chunshan, but a hint box automatically popped up on the screen, which read.
“Code: The Person You Love Most. System Alert: If incorrect a second time, the device will automatically lock.”
Now, facing the blank input field again, she began to hesitate.
She actually had several candidates in mind, but she only had two chances, and the consequence of failure was a lockdown.
She didn’t know if the truth behind her amnesia was hidden behind these complex steps, so she wasn’t willing to risk letting anyone else discover this device.
Who would have thought that the password from ten years in the future would guard against the ten-years-ago version of herself.
However, Xia Pingwu didn’t let herself be stressed. Without figuring out the answer, she simply turned off the computer and climbed into the covers.
A good night’s sleep.
