Amnesiac Yandere Ex-Wife Always Wants to Remarry - Chapter 14
Chapter 14: Give Me Bl00d.
Xia Pingwu was indeed sick.
She felt as if she had fallen into a scorching flame, burning with pain all over. Her mind was wrapped in a thick fog, unable to break free.
In her haze, she dreamed of many things.
She dreamed of returning to the year before she enrolled.
In that year, to become the undisputed first in the entrance test, she and Chunshan were thrown into the Ice-Fire Cave by their Shi-mu (Master’s Wife).
The climate there was volatile, the terrain complex, and it had even become a stronghold for Anomalies during the later stages of the First Great War.
Although the Anomalies inside had long been eliminated, the contamination level had remained high for many years.
Apart from someone of Shi-mu’s status, ordinary people wouldn’t dare approach it.
And the two of them were simply thrown in.
Without even preparing anything.
When Shi-mu came to pick them up seven days later, she was almost met with two corpses.
At that time, Xia Pingwu was suffering from a fever that nearly claimed half her life. Ming Chunshan carried her, crawled to the only light source in the cave, and fed her with water droplets trickling down the cave wall.
Just like now.
Someone was also holding a cup and feeding her. A warm and soft sensation swallowed the medicine, and Xia Pingwu was familiar with the taste of the medicine.
It was the medicine she often took recently.
Recently.
Ah, she had already arrived ten years later.
Xia Pingwu belatedly realized her consciousness had returned. The haze prevented her from opening her eyes. She instinctively called out: “Chunshan.”
“I’m here.” The familiar voice responded.
She felt herself being gently shifted into a different embrace, as if the person was afraid of holding her uncomfortably.
The embrace was cold, just like it was in the Ice-Fire Cave.
But it was safe.
So Xia Pingwu murmured:
“It’s okay. I’ll be fine after a nap.”
The next moment, Xia Pingwu felt the strength of the embrace around her tighten instantly. She wanted to say something more comforting, but the haze struck again.
Perhaps she had been sick like this for seven years.
Perhaps Chunshan had been taking care of her like this all along.
…In that case, was it a bit too much to ask Chunshan what she had asked?
Before being dragged away by deep sleep, she only managed to add one more sentence:
“Thank you for your hard work, Chunshan.”
When she woke up again, Xia Pingwu’s fever had broken.
The soft duvet was securely tucked around her. She instinctively reached up to rub her temple and was about to get up.
Just then, the door opened, and someone walked in quickly to assist her:
“Elder Sister, how are you feeling?”
A pillow was quickly placed behind her. Xia Pingwu looked up at Ming Chunshan:
“What time is it now?”
“It’s noon the next day. I took leave.”
Ming Chunshan sat on the edge of the bed, tucking the corner of the duvet:
“I was just about to make lunch. What do you want to eat?”
Xia Pingwu didn’t speak, looking up and gazing intently at Ming Chunshan.
Ming Chunshan was startled, and as if remembering something, she lowered her voice: “I only took one day off. Not a long leave.”
Xia Pingwu shook her head, but didn’t address that:
“Did I get a fever this time because my Anomaly power was in turmoil from unilaterally competing with Ji Jie?
“Do I need another shot of the enhanced inhibitor?”
Unexpectedly, Ming Chunshan recoiled slightly and immediately denied it:
“No need for another shot.”
She looked up, meeting Xia Pingwu’s somewhat puzzled gaze, paused, and continued to explain:
“All medicine is toxic to some degree. I have experience. With your condition, you’ll be fine after a bit more rest.”
Xia Pingwu nodded, then looked up again, continuing to observe Ming Chunshan with that same focused gaze.
Ming Chunshan subconsciously curled her fingers, trying to maintain a gentle smile:
“Elder Sister, why are you looking at me like that?”
At this moment, Xia Pingwu leaned forward and touched her forehead with her own.
Forehead to forehead, warmth transferred. Ming Chunshan’s heart skipped a beat. Just as she was about to speak, Xia Pingwu pulled back.
She saw Xia Pingwu tilt her head slightly, her voice filled with pure concern:
“I hope it’s only Anomaly power turbulence. Otherwise, I had such a severe fever, and you stayed with me all along. It wouldn’t be good if it was contagious to you.”
“It won’t be.”
Ming Chunshan pressed down on the corner of Xia Pingwu’s duvet:
“I also performed the ‘bl00d exchange’ for you on schedule while you were sleeping. You’ll get better soon.”
“Good.” Xia Pingwu nodded. She thought for a moment and added, “Don’t worry. I won’t ask to go to the Bureau of Anomalies again.”
She stretched her limbs, showing a faint but gentle smile: “With my body, it’s better to go to the gym for good rehabilitation first.”
“I’ll go with you then.”
Ming Chunshan planned this, but didn’t anticipate the series of unexpected events that would follow.
Over the next few months, Anomalies arrived more frequently than usual, and their rank was in no way comparable to the minor minions from before.
Not only that, they were noticeably smarter, learning to think, evade, and even set traps.
The Bureau of Anomalies was overwhelmed with work, and Ming Chunshan was constantly busy. Fortunately, Ruan Zhujun managed to steal some time and took the opportunity to visit Xia Pingwu’s home.
So, when Xia Pingwu, lying in bed, saw Ruan Zhujun completely encased in a protective suit, she was momentarily stunned for a few seconds:
“Ruan… Zhujun?”
“Don’t sound so formal. Just call me ‘Jun-jun’ (Yun-yun).”
Ruan Zhujun slowly approached and skillfully removed the IV from Xia Pingwu:
“Your ‘bl00d exchange’ for the day is complete. You can rest well tonight. I’m here to remove the equipment.”
By now, Xia Pingwu clearly understood her ‘bl00d exchange’ routine: equipment on during the day, free to move around at night.
She sat up from the bed, examining Ruan Zhujun’s protective suit from head to toe: “That outfit of yours…”
“You just finished the ‘bl00d exchange’. Your immune system is at its weakest,” Ruan Zhujun stepped back to the foot of the bed, looking at Xia Pingwu from a distance. “This outfit is to block the Anomaly power fluctuations on my body.”
Speaking of this, she remembered something else and rolled her eyes dramatically: “Ming Chunshan received special permission from the Superior to return home only after undergoing specialized purification at the Bureau of Anomalies.”
Seeing Ruan Zhujun like this, Xia Pingwu couldn’t help but smile faintly again. She then got off the bed and started nudging Ruan Zhujun toward the door: “Then when can you take off that suit? I’ll pour you some water.”
“Take it off…” Ruan Zhujun froze, then immediately remembered what she usually came to Xia Pingwu’s place to do while wearing this suit.
She paused, hesitated for a moment, then slowly grasped Xia Pingwu’s wrist, stopping her steps.
Then she turned:
“Pingwu, there’s something I want to tell you.”
Xia Pingwu loosened her grip a bit, watching Ruan Zhujun stare intently at her, her voice firm:
“Are you willing for the three of us to leave the Bureau of Anomalies together?”
Xia Pingwu completely let go and stepped back a few paces:
“Did Chunshan send you?”
She paused, stared at Ruan Zhujun for a while, then hesitated:
“I thought… you would have the same idea as Chunshan? Why?”
She hadn’t been awake for long, and many things were hard to figure out.
She hadn’t even grasped the current work of the Bureau of Anomalies, let alone what had happened between Ruan Zhujun and Chunshan.
She could only observe slowly, hoping that with the enemy exposed and her hidden, she could find the truth sooner.
“No, I’m certainly not with her on this. I and you…” Ruan Zhujun stammered, her voice turning slightly rough. “…It’s just that the Bureau of Anomalies is currently investigating the Resistance Faction. I’m just worried… that you might encounter trouble.”
“I see.” Xia Pingwu feigned a sigh of relief, continuing: “It’s fine. Chunshan told me that with the help of the enhanced inhibitor, my Anomaly detection value has a completely realistic hope of dropping to a level that can be maintained by the enhanced inhibitor.”
Her expression was relaxed, as if she genuinely looked forward to it:
“Once that happens, I can try to use my innate Anomaly power again and gradually start to get used to the life of an Anomaly specialist again.”
Ruan Zhujun was about to say something else, but Xia Pingwu quickly changed the topic:
“Jun-jun, do you know if there are any gyms nearby?”
Although this was an area guarded by Anomaly specialists, there were still some civilians living there, whether they were partners or simply chose to be there.
She gripped the hem of Ruan Zhujun’s protective suit and waved it casually:
“But before any kind of future, improving myself is more valuable.”
Ruan Zhujun felt that she must have gotten too used to being persuaded by Xia Pingwu over the years.
Even when she brought Xia Pingwu to a nearby gym, it felt somewhat surreal.
“Don’t worry. Chunshan gave me the enhanced inhibitor. She’ll join us when she’s done. Just relax.”
Xia Pingwu was looking over the various gym equipment from ten years later. Seeing Ruan Zhujun sticking to her like a piece of sticky candy out of the corner of her eye, she couldn’t help but want to laugh:
“Come on, Ruan Zhujun. Can you buy me a bottle of electrolyte water? I want to try that new flavor that came out a few years ago.”
Ruan Zhujun couldn’t resist her eyes. She repeatedly warned her to stay put, then said hello to the owner and walked toward the convenience store across the street.
Xia Pingwu watched her through the window a few times and decided to do a simple warm-up on the treadmill first. As she turned around, she saw someone on the treadmill that had been empty just moments ago.
The equipment area was quite empty. Xia Pingwu was startled by the sudden appearance of the figure and instinctively took a step aside.
But at that moment, she saw the figure in her peripheral vision seem to move.
So Xia Pingwu looked up, politely nodded at the person, and only then got a clear view of the person’s entire appearance.
The person was completely covered by a huge hoodie, only revealing a pair of dark, menacing eyes, standing on the treadmill and staring intently at her.
Xia Pingwu suddenly felt that these eyes were somewhat familiar.
But she didn’t dare assume anything. She only nodded and slowly started to walk away. Just then, the person spoke:
“Xia Pingwu.”
Ah, so they did know her.
Xia Pingwu acknowledged the name. Her foot was already on another treadmill, and she was leaning down to start it. Just then, a hand reached out from the side—
The hoodie figure was in front of her, firmly blocking her action, their eyes still fixed on her:
“Xia Pingwu, why won’t you go see Ming Jianhong?”
Xia Pingwu’s movement paused. She pulled her arm back.
This person knows her Shi-mu’s name? Perhaps they are also one of those who hold a grudge against her?
She didn’t take it seriously, only saying: “I’ll go on the memorial day, of course, but right now, I think Shi-mu would prefer me to live well.”
“Then why won’t you give her bl00d?”
Xia Pingwu was taken aback by the out-of-the-blue question and subconsciously asked back: “What bl00d?”
“The bl00d, that is, this.” The hoodie figure slowly extended a finger, its sharp nail pointing directly at Xia Pingwu’s carotid artery, and then suddenly stabbed down hard!
Xia Pingwu dodged backward. The recoil from the treadmill almost made her stumble, but luckily, she quickly stabilized herself and flipped over, retreating several steps.
Only then did she see that the hoodie figure had completely expanded at some point, towering in a terrifying posture. The fingernails rapidly spread and extended, as if they had eyes, heading straight for Xia Pingwu!
“Pingwu! Come here!” Just then, Ruan Zhujun at the doorway had just managed to evacuate the other people inside. Seeing the bad situation, she immediately rushed toward Xia Pingwu!
In a flash, a gust of wind rose from the ground, scraping along the floor cracks toward the Anomaly. Simultaneously, Ruan Zhujun, the user of the Anomaly power, finally grabbed Xia Pingwu’s sleeve, ready to pull her behind her!
Quicker than words could tell, the Anomaly suddenly used the momentum to surge forward, its nail curling around and directly seizing Ruan Zhujun’s neck!
