Amnesiac Yandere Ex-Wife Always Wants to Remarry - Chapter 15
Chapter 15: “It Will Get Better.”
Despite the attack, the creature’s face and form remained completely obscured beneath the hoodie, making it impossible to see any distinguishing feature.
Where did this Anomaly come from?
Why could this thing talk to her?
What was its purpose in wanting her bl00d?
A multitude of questions swirled in Xia Pingwu’s mind, finding no answers, but now was not the time to search for them.
She stretched her fingers and briefly closed her eyes, reviewing in her mind every move Ruan Zhujun made when she used her Anomaly power.
She was facing a true Anomaly now. The small-scale skirmishes of shooting and close combat with Ji Jie were useless here. She had to act like a true Anomaly specialist and use her Anomaly power!
How did Jun-jun do it? How did Shi-mu and the other Shi-yis (Master’s Aunts) do it when she was following them?
Focus her mind, exert force with her fingers, that kind of glow… that kind of color… she wanted to release it too!
A blue light suddenly flared up. Fine streams wove into a net, which, with Xia Pingwu’s swift movement, shot straight toward the Anomaly’s arm—
The Anomaly seemed to have been watching her out of the corner of its eye. Seeing her action, it immediately let go, and Ruan Zhujun was pushed by the recoil, falling straight to the ground.
Xia Pingwu quickly confirmed that Ruan Zhujun was not severely injured. Then, she spun around, attacking the hoodie figure again.
The blue grid skillfully unfurled, layer upon layer, like a vast sea of woven light, surging out to wrap around the hoodie figure again!
The hoodie figure blocked it effortlessly by shifting its body. But it didn’t expect that the next moment, the woven sea suddenly changed direction, like a huge hand, violently yanking the hoodie straight off its back.
At the same time, Xia Pingwu’s clear challenge rang out:
“Who are you? Why do you want my bl00d?”
The hoodie figure was violently tugged backward by the force, revealing a small, clean part of its profile. Xia Pingwu tried to pull harder, but the long nails had already retracted, aggressively batting away the blue light.
Then, it surged forward again, ready to strike Xia Pingwu once more!
In a flash, bright searchlights abruptly streamed in through the window. Densely packed footsteps converged from all directions. The nails suddenly froze, and the figure rolled on the ground, instantly moving to disappear.
Xia Pingwu’s heart tightened. The light at her fingertips intensified, and she was about to chase the Anomaly a few more steps.
But the Anomaly suddenly turned around, reaching out its hand toward Xia Pingwu with a ferocious snarl.
Xia Pingwu stopped in her tracks, but the Anomaly seemed to have decided to go all out, its fingertips extending rapidly, trying to grab Xia Pingwu completely!
The chaotic sound of footsteps followed close behind. One attack after another forcefully interrupted the opponent’s assault, and Xia Pingwu’s vision finally went black, and she fell straight down!
“Elder Sister!”
“Pingwu!”
When Xia Pingwu woke up, there were several figures in protective suits crowding around her bed.
They clustered together, all looking at Xia Pingwu.
Xia Pingwu remained silent for a few moments, identifying each person by their eyes, and finally spoke: “Where’s Chunshan?”
“Ming Chunshan is at the Bureau of Anomalies, reporting the accident to the Superior,” Ruan Zhujun said, sighing in relief that Xia Pingwu was finally speaking. She half-crouched down. “Are you uncomfortable anywhere else?”
“I’m fine.” Xia Pingwu shook her head, then asked, “Chu Yu, will she make things difficult for Chunshan?”
She knew that the current Superior was Chu Yu, Shi-mu’s arch-rival, who would oppose almost everything Shi-mu did.
Ruan Zhujun paused, holding Xia Pingwu’s hand: “Don’t worry.”
At this moment, Ming Chunshan’s mind was also entirely focused on Xia Pingwu.
Unfortunately, the person in the high seat had eyes too cold, forcing her to focus on the conversation.
Chu Yu sat high up, looking down at Ming Chunshan: “Chunshan, I don’t think this deal is a loss for you. What are you hesitating about?”
“I won’t allow Elder Sister to rejoin the team,” Ming Chunshan looked back, her eyes firm. “The Anomaly’s identity hasn’t been investigated. Rejoining rashly will only put Elder Sister at the center of the storm.”
“But can you control the current Xia Pingwu?” Chu Yu offered a subtle smile, the corner of her eye lightly lifting in the dim light. “Even if the enhanced inhibitor is powerful, it can only take away Xia Pingwu’s Anomaly power, but it can’t take away Xia Pingwu’s ambition.”
Ming Chunshan pursed her lips.
Chu Yu let out a soft laugh and continued: “You’re right. These creatures are likely targeting Xia Pingwu.
“But that’s perfect. If we let Xia Pingwu rejoin, won’t you also be able to protect her better?”
Ming Chunshan opened her mouth, intending to argue.
Chu Yu interrupted her, a hint of impatience finally in her tone: “She’ll only be doing strategic work. We won’t send her to the battlefield. Is that still not enough?”
“Is that really acceptable?”
Xia Pingwu leaned against the headboard, looking at Ming Chunshan, who had rushed back, and felt a moment of disbelief for the first time.
Her knowledge of Chu Yu was very one-sided. She only knew that she clashed with Shi-mu and generally went against everything Shi-mu supported.
But now, she would actually agree to let her join the Combat Squad with Ming Chunshan? Even if it was just for strategic work?
Ming Chunshan looked back at Xia Pingwu, answering very slowly: “It’s acceptable.”
She understood Elder Sister’s excitement, but precisely because of it, she felt even more uneasy: “But Elder Sister, I told you before, you are in a very dangerous situation right now… Although it’s strategic work, I still feel…”
“Chunshan, if its target is me, I won’t be able to escape no matter where I hide.”
Xia Pingwu reached out and held Ming Chunshan’s hand:
“Also, Jun-jun told me about the Resistance Faction. Do you think this incident could be related to them?”
“So, was Auntie Ming the one who caused Pingwu’s amnesia?”
In the prison cell in the dungeon, Ruan Zhujun in her protective suit looked coldly at Qiao Lang. Though phrased as a question, her tone was very certain.
Qiao Lang calmly tidied her medical kit, her gaze only vaguely falling on the contamination value display beside her, her tone dismissive:
“Pingwu is our only hope. Why would Auntie Ming ever want to hurt her?”
Ruan Zhujun clenched her hand into a fist, moving a few steps closer:
“We all know that Pingwu can no longer fight with Anomaly power. Her current ability to help us with purification is already a huge sacrifice on her part. I advise you all not to push your luck.”
Qiao Lang finally turned to look at Ruan Zhujun, a subtle lift in the corner of her eye:
“Zhujun, you’re not the only one who cares about Pingwu. Don’t talk as if everyone is trying to harm her.
“Furthermore, whether Pingwu even appreciates your efforts is still unknown.”
“Stop trying to sow discord here.”
Ruan Zhujun glared at her, her eyes wide, emphasizing loudly:
“I know Pingwu grew up with her Shi-mu and people like Auntie Ming, but that’s all in the past, and before her Shi-mu died, she even wanted to take her with her…”
“Ruan Zhujun.”
Qiao Lang instantly interrupted:
“Team Leader Ruan, you’ve reviewed the progress of cleansing the contamination value of these prisoners. Do you have any further instructions?”
“…No.” Ruan Zhujun’s voice faltered. She watched Qiao Lang turn and walk toward the door: “In that case, time is up. Please come out with me, Team Leader Ruan, and perhaps put in a good word for us to the Superior.”
Ruan Zhujun had nowhere to vent her anger. She could only stare intently at Qiao Lang, watching her slowly grasp the doorknob, and then suddenly turn her head back.
Qiao Lang looked at her, a smile on her lips:
“Zhujun, we’ve been classmates and colleagues for so many years. There’s one thing I must tell you.
“You’re so good to Pingwu, but Pingwu might still have someone more important to her than you.”
“Chu Yu did indeed have that suspicion.”
Ming Chunshan held Xia Pingwu’s hand back, her voice lower:
“However, Shancheng is only so big. If they were still operating here, they would definitely have an inside contact…
“We just haven’t found any inside contact.”
“You told me before that the Resistance Faction was formed because of dissatisfaction with the establishment of the ‘Contamination Value.’ But now the lab is working hard on research, and the cleansing results in the dungeon are also quite good. Maybe the two sides can sit down and have a good talk.”
Xia Pingwu squeezed the back of Ming Chunshan’s hand:
“It will get better.”
“You don’t need to worry so much. We have everything under control.”
Ming Chunshan covered Xia Pingwu’s hand with hers:
“All you need to do now is rest well.
“Chu Yu has already agreed to let you rejoin the team. You need to rest well so you can have better mental clarity, right?”
“That’s true, but…” Xia Pingwu instinctively replied, but Ming Chunshan stood up to leave: “Are you hungry? There should still be some dried noodles at home. I’ll make you a bowl of noodles.”
Ming Chunshan’s movements were swift. Her back was already visible. Xia Pingwu quickly followed up: “Chunshan, do you know, my bl00d…”
“What about your bl00d?” Ming Chunshan replied instinctively, then realized and stopped her steps, continuing: “Are you talking about what that Anomaly said? She was delirious. How can you believe what she says?”
There were surveillance cameras everywhere outside. The full details of her accident had long been reported to the Bureau of Anomalies.
Xia Pingwu was silent for a moment, but couldn’t help continuing:
“Chunshan, are you hiding something from me?”
She stood up, slowly taking a few steps forward:
“Before, you didn’t want to tell me, and I could understand that you were keeping it confidential. But now, the incident has happened right in front of me, and Chu Yu also agreed…”
A knock came from the front door. Some sound seemed to transmit, but from the bedroom, neither of them could hear clearly.
Ming Chunshan opened the door. Simultaneously, the sound of the lock turning was heard.
It was Ruan Zhujun arriving.
Her expression was anxious, but after observing the look on both their faces, she stopped: “What’s wrong with you two?”
She hesitated for a moment, then immediately found her own explanation: “Ming Chunshan, you still don’t want Pingwu to go to work?”
“I…” Ming Chunshan glared at her. “Are you really okay with it?”
Ruan Zhujun fell silent.
Xia Pingwu’s hand, which was about to intervene, didn’t manage to lift.
Ruan Zhujun had no intention of arguing with Ming Chunshan. She quietly changed her shoes.
She wasn’t wearing a protective suit. Her shoes were always on the most accessible top layer of the shoe cabinet. She took the shoes down and slowly put them on—
Then, out of the corner of her eye, she saw the two pairs of feet standing side-by-side in front of her.
Did she care?
She did.
She knew Ming Chunshan cared about Pingwu’s body, but she knew Pingwu’s decision even more.
She would always choose to support Pingwu.
She didn’t have Ming Chunshan’s superior abilities, and she couldn’t as matter-of-factly and righteously obstruct Pingwu as Ming Chunshan could. All she could do was protect Pingwu as much as possible.
Most importantly, Shancheng needed Pingwu.
It needed Pingwu more than Ming Chunshan knew, more than the current Xia Pingwu knew, and perhaps even more than she herself knew.
The Combat Squad workroom was once again filled with people. The work tables were put away, and the team members lined up in two rows. Ming Chunshan was pulling down the display board at the front.
Xia Pingwu obediently followed Ming Chunshan, seizing an opportunity to ask: “What can I help with?”
Ming Chunshan turned to look at her, then seemed to remember something, leaning down to take a pair of glasses from a drawer:
“These are the Combat Squad’s visualized glasses. Your custom ones are still being made. We had a last-minute meeting today. Can you wear my spare ones for now?”
She gestured twice and nodded to herself:
“The size is about right.”
In Xia Pingwu’s memory, visualized glasses still required external connection devices. So much progress had been made in ten years.
While everyday facilities hadn’t changed much, combat and medical equipment had advanced rapidly.
She muttered internally but showed no expression, only nodding to let Ming Chunshan proceed.
A cool touch gently pressed against her ear. Xia Pingwu paid it no mind, then saw someone approaching out of the corner of her eye.
She reached out and squeezed Ming Chunshan’s wrist: “Mao Xiqing is here.”
Ming Chunshan didn’t turn her head: “Mao Xiqing, I’ve sent the data to your glasses. Just pass it down.”
The footsteps behind her didn’t stop. When Ming Chunshan finished putting the glasses on Xia Pingwu and turned around, she saw Mao Xiqing had arrived at the desk and set down a cup:
“Deputy Xia, water.”
Xia Pingwu’s gaze shifted from the lenses. She took the handle of the cup and slightly curved her lips:
“Thank you.”
Ming Chunshan’s fingers slightly curled, tapping on the table “thump-thump” twice: “The Team Leader is still standing here. Where’s the Team Leader’s water?”
Mao Xiqing chuckled, about to reply, when the door was knocked.
Ming Chunshan recognized the person. It was the lab specialist responsible for coordinating Elder Sister’s medication with her.
