Amnesiac Yandere Ex-Wife Always Wants to Remarry - Chapter 16.1
Chapter 16.1
Their hands clasped, a stream-like energy flowed from their fingertips. A strange yet potent feeling instantly swept through Xia Pingwu’s body.
She looked up, gazing into the darkness once more.
Light flickered around her, like tiny, star-like tendrils, aggressively reaching out into the boundless gloom.
Ming Chunshan’s instruction reached her ear: “Elder Sister, you must not force the use of Anomaly power.”
And then, that voice again:
“Xia Pingwu.”
Ming Chunshan, holding Xia Pingwu’s hand, was actually observing Xia Pingwu’s expression and didn’t bother to learn with her.
She understood Xia Pingwu’s ability and knew that for her, being a tool to provide Anomaly power assistance was the best choice.
Of course, there was one more important thing.
She had to keep a close eye on Xia Pingwu, ensuring she didn’t use her Anomaly power:
She hadn’t had her injection today, so she absolutely could not use Anomaly power.
“Xia Pingwu.”
The voice continued to call out.
The moment she released the Anomaly power transferred from Ming Chunshan, her ears were filled with a sharp, overwhelming roar, making Xia Pingwu instinctively want to cover her ears.
Yet, amidst the noise, she still heard a voice incessantly calling her name:
“Xia Pingwu.”
“Xia Pingwu!”
She involuntarily tightened her grip on Ming Chunshan’s hand, allowing the latter’s Anomaly power to surge over like a tide.
By the time Ming Chunshan realized something was wrong, it was too late.
Xia Pingwu had indeed not used her own Anomaly power, but the speed at which she was drawing it out was too fast!
The light around Xia Pingwu suddenly flickered, and then, like kindling catching fire, it burst into an intense glow with a “poof.”
“Elder Sister!” Ming Chunshan only managed to call out before Xia Pingwu had already leaped up and lunged forward!
Ming Chunshan barely had time to pull out her gun and aim from the hand that wasn’t holding Xia Pingwu, when Xia Pingwu had already raised her rifle. A “swoosh-swoosh-swoosh” sound was heard. Continuous bullets flashed in the air, illuminating the scene ahead.
A terrifying face was grinning menacingly at Xia Pingwu, saying something indistinctly.
Xia Pingwu aimed at the face, pulling the trigger faster and faster. Behind her, several people stood frozen.
Ji Jie was stunned in place. It was Mao Xiqing who hesitantly spoke: “What… what is that thing?”
Anomalies were mutated organisms originally found on Blue Star, so they naturally retained some traces of their original life form.
But the face before them seemed to be suspended in mid-air, showing no original features whatsoever.
This meant this thing was not the usual C-rank or lower Anomaly, nor the occasionally sentient B-rank Anomaly they recently encountered. It was likely…
A-rank!
And Ming Chunshan at the very front had already flown forward. A huge Anomaly power fluctuation instantly spread out. The surrounding grass and trees immediately swayed and rustled, emitting a sharp buzzing sound.
She was performing a manual scan to check for the presence of more Anomalies.
An echoing sound from an unknown source resonated. Mao Xiqing was the first to snap back to her senses, shouting: “Level One Alert! Tranquilizer Bow team advance in the center with me. Rifle team watch the perimeter!”
But moving forward was already too late.
Xia Pingwu had leaped too fast. Ming Chunshan’s figure following behind was almost out of sight.
The face retreated rapidly, as if intentionally drawing its pursuers in.
Ming Chunshan also noticed this and repeatedly called out from behind: “Elder Sister, don’t go! That thing is doing it on purpose!”
But Xia Pingwu seemed deaf, her forward pace only increasing. Ming Chunshan didn’t know that in the dead of the quiet night, Xia Pingwu’s ears were surrounded by a million voices.
The voice kept saying over and over:
“Xia Pingwu, come, come find me.
“Do you want to go back, Xia Pingwu? Do you want to return to ten years ago?
“Xia Pingwu, do you want to save your Shi-mu?”
The voice was like sharp claws, reaching out to clutch Xia Pingwu, forcing her to move forward, endlessly forward.
Until a cold laugh came through the communication earpiece:
“Look. As soon as she’s near the Ice-Fire Cave, Xia Pingwu loses it.
“I must warn you, Ming Chunshan. The Bureau of Anomalies is inherently hostile to Anomalies and will never be complicit with them.”
Xia Pingwu immediately halted her steps.
Then, her wrist was firmly gripped by Ming Chunshan.
Mao Xiqing quickly followed up, shouting: “All units, open fire!”
Countless bullets and arrows flew out. Ming Chunshan tried to pull Xia Pingwu to dodge, but her fingers suddenly found air.
Xia Pingwu turned sideways, snatching the rifle from Ming Chunshan’s hand. She then shouldered it again, aimed, and fired—
A huge burst of fire shot out. Mixed in with the bullets flying everywhere, the Anomaly seemed to momentarily flicker.
Then, the face tilted to the right.
It was likely hit on the right side.
But neither of them had the energy to pursue.
Two empty rifles slid off Xia Pingwu’s shoulder. The weight of the guns pulled her entire body sideways.
Ming Chunshan supported Xia Pingwu, feeling Xia Pingwu pushing her: “Hurry, go chase it. She, she knows…”
She certainly wouldn’t chase. She lifted Xia Pingwu into a bridal carry, leaning down to ask: “What?”
“…She knows Shi-mu.”
Then, silence.
When Ming Chunshan came out of the infirmary, Ruan Zhujun was leading the cleanup crew back.
Seeing Ming Chunshan alone, Ruan Zhujun guessed Xia Pingwu was likely still lying in the infirmary and couldn’t contain her anger:
“Wasn’t Pingwu supposed to be doing strategic work? Why did you take her to the battlefield?”
Ming Chunshan was grim-faced: “Let me ask you first, how are the cleanup results over there?”
Ruan Zhujun “hmph’d”:
“The contamination value is zero. The traces of the creature you reported weren’t found.
“But we collected information. The lab is currently comparing the genetic data.”
Ming Chunshan’s voice was heavy: “Elder Sister’s final strike injured its right side. It definitely couldn’t run far. Tell the follow-up team to be careful…”
“‘Focus on information gathering, don’t engage in prolonged combat.’ Yes, yes, I know. How many times have you said it?” Ruan Zhujun waved her hand, her expression softening a rare bit. “By the looks of you, is Pingwu okay? I heard other team members were injured too?”
“Elder Sister is just physically exhausted. She didn’t use Anomaly power, so she’s fine.” Ming Chunshan tried to move past Ruan Zhujun. “The intern on the team has a wound on her right arm from the gunfire. It’s already bandaged.”
Ruan Zhujun reached out and stopped her: “Wait. I have one more thing to tell you.”
Ming Chunshan looked at her.
Ruan Zhujun said: “Next month is the school anniversary. The school invited the three of us to go back.”
Ming Chunshan immediately refused: “No. Elder Sister is even less likely to go in her current condition.”
She never went before. Now that Elder Sister has amnesia, it’s even less likely.
Ruan Zhujun held onto her: “I admit I spoke too harshly before, but if Elder Sister is to recover her memory, wouldn’t experiencing things from the past be more beneficial for her memory recovery?”
Ming Chunshan was silent for a moment. Thinking of something, her refusal became even more resolute: “I said we’re not going, and we’re not going.”
With that, she continued to walk. Ruan Zhujun tried to stop her again, but Ming Chunshan broke free: “I’ll go pick up Elder Sister after I finish my report.”
Ming Chunshan was quick. Not long after, she arrived at the infirmary.
As she walked toward Xia Pingwu’s room, she heard a sound coming from inside.
Elder Sister must be awake.
She was about to push the door open, but the sound she heard wasn’t quite right.
It sounded like soft sobbing.
Elder Sister is crying.
