Amnesiac Yandere Ex-Wife Always Wants to Remarry - Chapter 18
Chapter 18
Xia Pingwu was startled, and looked up at the counselor:
“Teacher, it is already our honor to be able to contribute to peace.”
“Besides, Chunshan has always taken care of me, and she works hard too.”
She stood up, side-stepped around, and looked up to see a person standing at the door.
Ming Chunshan waved at her, smiling playfully: “I told them to start self-study. Elder Sister, do you want to go back and say a few more words?”
Xia Pingwu shook her head and walked over to her:
“No need, let’s go have lunch.”
“Let’s eat braised chicken with rice (Huang Men Ji).”
In the evening of the school anniversary, teachers and students were sitting around, and the principal was giving an impassioned speech on the stage. Xia Pingwu didn’t want to sit in the front row and be the focus of attention, so the two of them secretly sat in the back row.
Fireworks were already prepared in the surroundings. The students’ faces were alight with joy, ready to celebrate wildly in the dark night.
They were burning their youthful ideals, illuminating love and hope.
Xia Pingwu, however, just stared.
She couldn’t help but wonder if she would still be celebrating with these people if she were at that time point, ten years ago.
But she wasn’t.
She was even told that she had amnesia, not that she was only eighteen years old.
Ming Chunshan went to the small convenience store near the back gate of the school and bought two bottles of electrolyte water, handing one to her. Xia Pingwu slowly twisted open the bottle, but then heard Ming Chunshan suddenly say:
“Elder Sister, during the last mission, what you finally said was… she knew about the Teacher’s Wife (Shimu), right?”
Chunshan hadn’t mentioned it these past few days, and she thought she hadn’t heard clearly.
Xia Pingwu unscrewed the cap, stared at the gently swaying liquid inside, and slowly nodded: “Yes.”
She recalled the books she saw in the faculty workroom, and turned to look at Ming Chunshan: “That guy told me that she could save the Teacher’s Wife.”
She met Ming Chunshan’s eyes: “So, how exactly did the Teacher’s Wife die?”
It was that question again.
Ming Chunshan opened her mouth, but Xia Pingwu immediately saw her hesitation and leaned forward inquisitively:
“Also, is the Resistance faction related to the Teacher’s Wife?
“Are you unwilling to tell me because you’re worried I’ll bend the law for personal gain?”
Of course not.
But Ming Chunshan didn’t know how to explain.
She didn’t know how to speak the secretive, gloomy, and sordid things hidden in her heart.
So, she fell silent.
Fireworks bloomed at this moment. Before pursuing her Elder Sister, she had read many guide books, which said one should say some words of love at this time.
But their conversation made her unsure of what to say.
As the fireworks faded and streaked across the sky, she finally spoke, trying her best:
“I’ll be there for you.”
Xia Pingwu tilted her head back and drank some water. For some reason, she drank a bit too quickly, and water droplets ran down, but she seemed not to notice.
She, too, had said this sentence to Chunshan many times.
But ten years later, she had clearly broken her promise.
“Elder Sister.”
Xia Pingwu’s thoughts were suddenly pulled back by this call.
She turned her head, only to be met by Ming Chunshan’s intense gaze.
Ming Chunshan lifted her hands, running them along her jaw, then slowly sliding to cup both sides of her face.
The person in front of her scrutinized her eyes, her voice sounding like a seduction:
“Was what you said that day true?
“That we can share abilities through a kiss?”
They were very close. Xia Pingwu could see that Ming Chunshan’s eyes were like a spring pond, watching very earnestly, and the fingers cupping her jaw seemed to be setting a fire.
For a moment, Xia Pingwu did not doubt the truth of Ming Chunshan’s words.
“Do you want to try?”
Xia Pingwu lifted her eyelids, her beautiful lashes like a light fan, fluttering in a way that made one’s heart tingle.
Her voice was very faint,
“To be honest, I haven’t tried it either.”
The fingers cupping her cheeks suddenly tightened, but Xia Pingwu seemed unaware, widening her eyes and parting her lips:
“So…
“Are you going to kiss me?”
Her light-colored eyes looked over innocently, clear and with an unsuspecting trust.
In an instant, there was a catch of breath.
Then, as if possessed, Ming Chunshan pressed her thumb down, leaned in, and kissed her.
Xia Pingwu subconsciously closed her eyes, only to feel a cool touch on her eyelid, fleetingly brief.
She heard Ming Chunshan sigh softly, saying to her:
“Elder Sister, what am I going to do with you?”
At that moment, the heat wave that had seemingly receded surged back once more, making her whole heart beat violently.
Above their heads, fireworks suddenly burst open again.
When she opened her eyes again, the fireworks were scattering and falling, illuminating the top of Ming Chunshan’s head.
Xia Pingwu pursed her lips and smiled, gently sighing: “Chunshan, you even have grey hairs now.”
Ming Chunshan “tsk’ed”:
“Elder Sister, you’re seven days older than me, how can you say that?”
“I’m eighteen this year.”
Xia Pingwu emphasized, then couldn’t resist, curving her eyes as she reached out and ruffled Ming Chunshan’s hair,
“But you too, you’re almost thirty, why are you still bothered by the little ones?”
“Twenty-eight.”
Ming Chunshan corrected her, but knew in her heart she was referring to the matter with Mao Xiqing and Ji Jie,
“You too, fighting with the little ones.”
While she was talking, Ming Chunshan’s gaze followed Xia Pingwu’s movements, seeing her approach and her cool, gentle fingers touch her neck.
Her voice suddenly trembled: “Elder Sister?”
Xia Pingwu leaned down, brushed aside the hair of the person in front of her, and her voice suddenly dropped:
“Chunshan, are you hurt?”
Ming Chunshan was accustomed to injuries. That day, she was only concerned about what that strange beast had interfered with in her Elder Sister, and she didn’t even notice the injury on her neck.
Now, with this touch, a tingling sensation like an electric shock spread throughout her body, and Ming Chunshan’s voice trembled even more:
“Don’t worry, Elder Sister, it’s just a small injury.”
Xia Pingwu stood up straight, quietly looking at Ming Chunshan:
“Chunshan, you know, I don’t like any secrets between us, and I don’t want us to have to guess what the other is thinking.”
Is that… true?
Ming Chunshan could hardly remember the last time she had such a serious conversation with her Elder Sister.
It was always her going on missions, and Elder Sister waiting for her at home; her cooking every meal, and Elder Sister waiting for her in the dining room; her showering, washing away all the traces of battle on her body, and Elder Sister waiting for her in bed.
Ming Chunshan felt a little distracted, but her mind was spinning rapidly.
The previous calm was probably maintained because she was hiding things well.
So, why exactly did Elder Sister ask her for a divorce?
“The Resistance faction… we haven’t been able to find out the specific members, and we don’t know exactly what they’re doing now.”
Ming Chunshan suddenly tightened her grip, firmly grasping Xia Pingwu’s wrist,
“But recently, several human-like strange beasts that still retain their sanity have appeared. Chu Yu has indeed been suspicious of them.”
Xia Pingwu tightened her grip on the water bottle.
Ming Chunshan continued: “She even suspects… that the leader of the Resistance faction is Aunt Ming.”
“Aunt Ming?”
Xia Pingwu certainly remembered Aunt Ming.
But her impression of Aunt Ming still remained from not long ago, when she and the Teacher’s Wife were inspecting the Ice Fire Cave.
And now…
Xia Pingwu suddenly recalled the sense of familiarity she had perceived during the last mission. She suddenly realized: “Was the destination we went to last time near the Ice Fire Cave?
“The Ice Fire Cave is too close to the edge, and the signal is difficult to control. Is that why the detection platform malfunctioned?”
“Yes.”
Ming Chunshan stared firmly at Xia Pingwu, lowering her voice,
“And if she is leading the Resistance faction, it’s very possible that she wants to capture you.”
“Capture me?”
Xia Pingwu repeated.
“Yes, they probably don’t understand the severity of your sequelae and only want to use you as a tool for battle.”
Ming Chunshan spoke emphatically, word by word,
“So you cannot go with them.”
So that was the reason.
Xia Pingwu pursed her lips:
“Don’t worry, you serve the Ability Bureau, I won’t make things difficult for you.”
Unexpectedly, as soon as Xia Pingwu finished speaking, Ming Chunshan immediately interjected:
“The Ability Bureau isn’t anything good either.”
As soon as she said it, she instantly realized what she had said, sighed, subtly glanced at the still-noisy surroundings, and lowered her voice:
“Right now, your illness still requires the Ability Bureau’s medicine. Once you get better, I’ll apply to be transferred to mountain top defense, far away from the Ability Bureau.”
Xia Pingwu also raised an eyebrow as if relieved, her tone softening a little:
“If I get better, I’ll have to join you in battle.”
Her tone was light, like the countless times she had soothed her when she was throwing a tantrum before, but when Ming Chunshan heard this, her chest suddenly tightened.
That wasn’t true, of course.
Once the medicine truly takes effect, Elder Sister will be permanently cut off from the Ability Bureau.
She stared at the smiling Elder Sister, but her heart felt empty.
If Elder Sister found out about all these things, could she still accept it?
Maybe, should I tell Elder Sister earlier?
Amidst her thoughts, Ming Chunshan pressed down on the back of Xia Pingwu’s hand: “Elder Sister, you’ve already worked so hard. I hope you can be freer.”
“Chunshan.” Xia Pingwu turned her head, looking into Ming Chunshan’s sincere eyes, and swallowed the words she was about to say.
She changed it to: “If you find a suitable successor captain by then, then we’ll talk.”
Ming Chunshan was about to speak, but Xia Pingwu playfully averted her gaze, saying: “After all, Mao Xiqing and the others are counting on your leadership.”
“Even if they try to stop me, I’m still leaving.” Ming Chunshan tightly held Xia Pingwu’s hand. “We’re the best childhood sweethearts; everyone else has to come second.”
“Everyone changes,” Xia Pingwu subconsciously replied, but Ming Chunshan interrupted: “I won’t. I definitely won’t.”
After the school anniversary, Xia Pingwu slept for several more days consecutively.
The time she could stay awake was gradually increasing, and Qiao Guan also confirmed that there were no major issues. Everyone’s feelings were complex, but they outwardly expressed happiness.
This time, as soon as Xia Pingwu woke up, she called Ruan Zhujun: “Zhujun, are you free lately? I’d like to meet with you.”
Since the last incident, all the shops halfway up the mountain were temporarily closed, waiting for the Ability Bureau to catch the strange beast. Therefore, meeting Ruan Zhujun had to be at home.
She didn’t know how to cook any other dishes, so she just cooked a bowl of noodles and picked out one bottle of each flavor of nutritional fluid, waiting for Ruan Zhujun at home.
Ruan Zhujun didn’t arrive very quickly. Recently, the Ability Bureau had too many matters, and the logistics team was also extremely busy.
But she was still earlier than Ming Chunshan.
As soon as Ruan Zhujun entered, the look of joy on her face diminished a little when she saw the things laid out in the living room.
She sat down, ate a bite of the noodles, and asked Xia Pingwu: “What’s wrong? Are the nutritional fluids at home about to expire?”
“…I don’t really know what flavors you like.” Xia Pingwu was rare in feeling a little guilty when she said this. Her familiarity with Ruan Zhujun was objective, but honestly, she didn’t know much subjectively.
With a relationship like this, would it be inappropriate to ask this question rashly…?
But Xia Pingwu still asked: “Could I have some connection to the Resistance faction?”
The fingers Ruan Zhujun used to select a nutritional fluid paused almost imperceptibly, then she immediately continued: “Ming Chunshan probably told you too, they might want to capture you.”
Xia Pingwu nodded, her tone a little more cautious: “Ming Chunshan also told me that the leader of the Resistance faction might be Aunt Ming, who was close to the Teacher’s Wife…”
“What does that have to do with you?” Ruan Zhujun flipped open the cap and drank it down. “You’re lying in bed all day; are you going to communicate telepathically in your sleep or something?”
She glanced around the living room, her tone half-serious, half-joking: “Did someone say something unpleasant to you?”
“No…” As soon as Xia Pingwu finished speaking, Ruan Zhujun pressed down on her hand: “Pingwu, don’t worry about what others think, and don’t listen to Ming Chunshan’s words about ‘doing what’s best for you’.”
She looked at Xia Pingwu, and couldn’t help but recall that anniversary day, walking with Pingwu in the bamboo forest.
At that time, there were things left unsaid.
So, she continued: “I will always be by your side, Pingwu.”
The next moment, the front door was unlocked and opened again. It was Ming Chunshan. She glanced at the people in the room and quickly walked over: “Since you’re both here, there’s something I need to tell you.”
Ruan Zhujun pushed the nutritional fluid towards her and moved a little closer to Xia Pingwu: “What’s so urgent?”
“The lab reported that the strange beast’s traces have been found,” Ming Chunshan said quickly and urgently. “The latest sighting was near the entrance of the Ice Fire Cave.”
The entrance of the Ice Fire Cave?
Ruan Zhujun certainly knew the Ice Fire Cave, and it wasn’t surprising that the strange beast appeared at such an edge location.
It’s just…
Ruan Zhujun scrutinized Ming Chunshan, then looked at Xia Pingwu beside her, cupped her chin, and replied with interest: “You’re willing to take Pingwu with you?”
“Of course I am.” Ming Chunshan extended her palm forward, revealing a device in her hand. “The latest development from the lab. As long as the battery capacity is sufficient, it can temporarily shield ability fluctuations continuously.”
This was obviously for Pingwu.
But it was very unexpected to Ruan Zhujun that Ming Chunshan, who usually guarded Pingwu so closely, was willing to take out this device and let Pingwu take such a risk.
To be honest, Ming Chunshan was not willing.
But Chu Yu sought her out and showed her the surveillance video from the gym again.
That strange beast stared intently at Xia Pingwu, opening its mouth and asking for “bl00d.”
“She wants Xia Pingwu’s bl00d. What’s your opinion?”
It was still in the spacious workroom. Thick curtains covered all the furnishings in the room, leaving only the slightly glowing computer screen.
The person behind the screen chuckled, their tone playful and intriguing,
“I suppose they already know, right?
“Know that Xia Pingwu’s bl00d can be used to purify strange beasts?”
The superior slightly lifted their eyes, their gaze looking at Ming Chunshan at the desk with a half-smile, half-frown.
Ming Chunshan didn’t move, still standing straight, only lowering her eyes, quietly silent.
She could feel the superior’s gaze constantly falling on her, even scanning her up and down, as if looking at an easy prey, playful and indifferent.
The next moment, a familiar sound of glass bottles tapping reached her ear:
“I just want to know, has Xia Pingwu ever voluntarily contacted them?”
Ming Chunshan’s voice was heavy, still looking down: “Elder Sister has been bedridden. This, the surveillance equipment can prove for me.”
A hint of pleading slowly emerged in her voice: “Elder Sister will not participate in anything, I guarantee it.”
“You guarantee it? What are you guaranteeing with?”
The superior slightly raised their eyes, as if they could see right into her emotions through the curve of Ming Chunshan’s lowered head,
“Don’t forget, I could have just killed Xia Pingwu, or increased the dosage and drawn her bl00d. It was you who begged me, and I only agreed to use the enhanced inhibitor and return her to you.”
Ming Chunshan suddenly looked up, her lips instantly pressed into a straight line, and her shoulders tensed immediately:
“It was also you who personally requested Elder Sister to participate in strategic work. It was also your decision to have Elder Sister conduct manual detection during the first battle.
“You just wanted to use this to test the results of my medication, didn’t you?”
The look of interest in the superior’s eyes intensified, even their eyebrows curved into a smile, and they once again sized up Ming Chunshan up and down.
This gaze was warmer than the last one, at least.
But whether this was friendliness, Ming Chunshan couldn’t tell.
So Ming Chunshan’s expression deepened further:
“You’ve already gotten the result, haven’t you?”
“So, prove Xia Pingwu’s loyalty to me as well.
The superior’s smile widened at the corner of their mouth, their gaze toward Ming Chunshan even deeper,
“Take her into the Ice Fire Cave, expose the Resistance faction with her own hands, and let me believe in you both.”
