Amnesiac Yandere Ex-Wife Always Wants to Remarry - Chapter 21
Chapter 21Â
The voice suddenly laughed. Before it could speak, a “drip” sound echoed in the silent passage.
The mutated creature immediately grew more excited: “Xia Pingwu, are you bleeding?”
“Yes, I’m bleeding.”
Xia Pingwu’s voice was very soft, but her steps suddenly lunged forward, and her tone immediately soared an octave:
“My bl00d is the death knell dragging you into hell!”
She burst forward again, her five fingers clawed, and she fiercely lunged in!
If anyone were present, they would see the arm holding the knife swell slightly, looking exactly like the hand of the ‘superior’ one!
But no one noticed.
Only Xia Pingwu flew forward, then delivered a decisive “tiger-pounces-on-the-heart” strike. Accompanied by the creature’s heart-wrenching screams, she immediately retreated, pulling back her hand neatly. She even had time to turn back and adjust the position of the person behind her.
In front of her, the chest cavity, already riddled with maggots, instantly ruptured. A sickening stench of decay immediately spread. Along with the spattering bl00d and gore, a crumpled piece of paper flew out—
The paper, as if by fate, landed precisely at Xia Pingwu’s feet.
She subconsciously lowered her gaze.
Then, she saw large, heavily inked characters on the top of the paper:
Divorce Agreement
The surroundings remained silent, only the stench of gore persistently spread. Xia Pingwu adjusted Ming Chunshan’s posture, slowly circled out of the cave, and headed toward the familiar path they had taken earlier.
But footsteps were slowly approaching from behind.
Xia Pingwu didn’t turn her head, she just replied, “I’ve found Chunshan. Let’s go back.”
The person behind her quickened their pace. Xia Pingwu finally turned her head and glanced: “Wait until we get back to the main unit, then you can tend to Chunshan’s wounds.”
The person was Qiao Guan.
She assessed Ming Chunshan’s injuries and silently followed behind until the darkness enveloped both of them. Only then did she speak:
“Deputy Xia, is Captain Ming completely unconscious?”
Xia Pingwu “hmm’d” and quickened her pace: “We can talk about anything else when we get back.”
The footsteps behind her, however, showed hesitation.
Xia Pingwu was a little anxious and turned to look again: “Do you still need bl00d?”
“…No.” Qiao Guan shook her head and slowed her steps. “Deputy Xia, can I ask you for a favor?”
Xia Pingwu turned around, scrutinizing Qiao Guan: “What are you going to do?”
“Just lock me up here.” Qiao Guan backed away a few steps. “Don’t tell anyone that I’ve been contaminated. Just pretend I’ve gone missing here, alright?”
Xia Pingwu subconsciously frowned: “What do you mean?”
She paused for only a moment, then immediately realized: “My bl00d is useless? It can’t suppress your mutation anymore.”
“Yes, anyway, going out is also a death sentence for me.” Qiao Guan pursed her lips and then gave a sudden bitter smile. “I can’t explain it to you anymore. Just let me die here.”
Saying that, she pointed behind her: “As an exchange, I will make sure that creature and I die together. There won’t be any possibility of it coming back to life.”
Her retreating steps grew faster and faster. Xia Pingwu even felt that she was like a gust of wind, faster than when she had first drunk her bl00d, almost blurring Qiao Guan’s figure.
Before her figure disappeared, one last sentence drifted in:
“Pingwu, after ten years of knowing each other, my final advice to you is—
“The truth is not important. Your own path is what matters most.”
The Return and New Complications
When Mao Xiqing saw Xia Pingwu, she nearly dropped the first-aid kit.
The person was carrying Ming Chunshan, both covered in bl00d from head to toe, with scarcely a clean spot visible.
She immediately rushed over, simultaneously directing people to lift Ming Chunshan down and apply medicine, and reporting to Xia Pingwu:
“Deputy Xia, the team members with the anesthetic bows have all gone out to search. The Long Spear Team is in the center, constantly observing the situation from all sides.
“Currently, we haven’t found anything yet.”
After speaking, Mao Xiqing looked behind them again and hesitated to ask: “Where is Qiao Guan?”
“Qiao Guan didn’t come back?”
Xia Pingwu tightly furrowed her brows, carefully observing Mao Xiqing’s expression. When she confirmed the sincere worry on her face, she continued:
“I met her before I even found Ji Jie. She treated my injuries, and then said she wanted to split up with me to look for Ji Jie. I haven’t seen her since.”
Mao Xiqing hesitated even more. After a moment, she finally sighed and approached with the medical kit:
“Deputy Xia, let me treat your wounds.”
“I’m fine.”
Xia Pingwu shook her head, took the medical kit, and walked toward Ming Chunshan.
“I know Chunshan’s injuries better. I’ll apply the medicine. You all continue the operation. It’s best if you can find Qiao Guan, but don’t let yourselves get separated because of it.
“Also, the miniature detector died before it could achieve success. The people from the Ability Bureau are likely already trying to figure things out.”
The moment she finished speaking, she sat down next to Ming Chunshan.
The wounds torn on her face had already been cleaned and bandaged, but the shirt over her abdomen was stuck to her flesh, making it impossible to remove.
Xia Pingwu carefully cut it away little by little with scissors. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Mao Xiqing about to walk towards the Long Spear Team. She suddenly looked up and called out to Mao Xiqing:
“I have one more question for you.”
Mao Xiqing turned her head.
Xia Pingwu lowered her head again, her gaze seemingly fixed on the efficient scissors, but the corner of her eye was observing Mao Xiqing’s expression:
“How is Ji Jie physically?”
“Her injuries aren’t severe, but that path was too narrow, and the fire was too great. She was caught off guard.”
Mao Xiqing felt a little embarrassed saying this.
She had expected Xia Pingwu to scold Ji Jie, and was preparing to suggest the punishment she had considered, but then heard Xia Pingwu change the subject:
“What about Qiao Guan? How is Qiao Guan’s ability?”
She hesitated for a moment and added:
“She’s currently missing, and I’m a little worried.”
Mao Xiqing subconsciously replied:
“Qiao Guan has excellent stamina. She often carries the wounded. Her combat level is also quite good; she often replaces injured members on the battlefield.”
She remembered something and smiled:
“If it weren’t for the shortage of healers, she would likely be a very good member of the combat team.”
Xia Pingwu had started to apply medicine to Ming Chunshan’s wounds. She worked in silence. Just as Mao Xiqing thought she should leave, Xia Pingwu spoke again:
“Last question.
“What do you think of the relationship between Captain Ming and me?”
Mao Xiqing’s movements froze. She subconsciously replied, “Deputy Xia and Captain Ming are the model couple of the Ability Bureau. Of course, they are in love.”
When she mentioned this, she suddenly became more talkative: “Captain Ming hates emergency tasks that come in right before quitting time. It means she can’t make dinner for you on time.
“If she unfortunately encounters one, she’ll dodge if she can, and she gets kicked back every time by Captain Ruan of the logistics team.”
Hearing this, Xia Pingwu, who was lifting Ming Chunshan’s shirt, paused.
Mao Xiqing thought she saw Xia Pingwu slightly curve her brows:
“What would Yunyun say?”
“She would say…” Mao Xiqing looked at Xia Pingwu again. “She’d threaten to complain to you that without Captain Ming, the mission would definitely take longer, there would be more need for logistics, and she would have to work more overtime, which means she wouldn’t be able to spend time with you.”
Xia Pingwu acknowledged this, her tone unchanged:
“Then do you think I love your Captain Ming?”
This question felt even more potentially fatal. Mao Xiqing hesitated for a moment, but then Xia Pingwu suddenly moved.
She didn’t clearly see what Xia Pingwu did, only saw her securely wrap Ming Chunshan in her jacket, and then stand up.
The tip of the blade she held shifted, and a piece of necrotic flesh was tossed onto the ground.
Xia Pingwu’s movements were fast, and her voice was even colder: “We can’t wait for someone to come and rescue us. I’ll do it myself.”
The unspoken words were.
That mutated creature likely has the ability to inject toxins that cause ordinary people and even Espers to mutate.
This is the most alarming ability, possessed only by A-level mutated creatures.
And that wasn’t even the most troubling thing…
The most troubling thing was that, according to Chunshan and Qiao Guan, this creature was likely captured once before.
And now it has reappeared did it escape? Or… did it come back to life?
Xia Pingwu couldn’t figure it out, and she didn’t have the energy to think about it now.
She quickly ran toward the Long Spear Team. Before she could even take her position, another scream came from the other side:
“Oh no! Ji Jie has fainted again!”
“Reporting to the test station, the logistics team and the laboratory are in place. The miniature detectors are about to be deployed.”
As the report ended, the buzzing of countless flies sounded again.
Watching those tiny, fly-sized things drill into the cave again, Ruan Zhuyun couldn’t put her mind at ease. She turned and looked at the person behind her:
“How is it? Is the communication earpiece fixed?”
“No.”
The person who answered her was Ning Xuan. She was staring intently at the screen that showed the real-time location of the miniature detectors, but her words were directed at Ruan Zhuyun:
“Don’t worry, these little guys have been specially reinforced. We’ll have results back soon.”
Ruan Zhuyun’s voice was cold: “Relying on you is less reliable than counting on Pingwu.”
“…Ruan Zhuyun,” Ning Xuan finally turned her eyes to look at her, displeasure in her gaze, “Xia Pingwu is already useless.”
Ruan Zhuyun instantly looked up, walking closer to Ning Xuan with a frown. The air pressure around her was very low. The surrounding team members subconsciously thought she was about to act and immediately gathered to intervene. Just then, a “beep-beep-beep” red alarm suddenly came from the display screen.
Everyone turned to look, but before they could even determine what had happened, a turbulent airflow suddenly erupted from the cave entrance—
In an instant, the flowers and trees began to shake violently. Accompanied by the chilling sound of metal breaking, a deafening, thunderous impact temporarily deafened everyone’s eardrums.
The next moment, large trees were uprooted, countless rocks and earth shot into the air, and everything buried above the ice-fire cave seemed to be instantly sucked away, vanishing completely.
In the midst of the overwhelming noise, Ruan Zhuyun saw Xia Pingwu, carrying Ming Chunshan on her back, slowly walking toward her from a distance:
“Yunyun, we’re back.”
An Urgent Plea
When Ruan Zhuyun returned from completing her task at the logistics site, Xia Pingwu was sitting by Ming Chunshan’s bed.
She walked quickly and looked down at Xia Pingwu: “How are you?”
“I’m fine. The laboratory’s suppressor is completely broken, but I just re-injected a strengthened inhibitor. It should be okay.” Xia Pingwu looked up, paused, and still asked, “Why did the detector explode? Was there some problem?”
Ruan Zhuyun looked back at the healers busy elsewhere and called out in a very low voice: “Pingwu.”
Xia Pingwu was watching her intently, waiting for her answer.
Ruan Zhuyun hesitated: “You know Ming Chunshan really likes you.”
Xia Pingwu’s heart skipped a beat. She stared, frowning lightly: “What does this have to do with Chunshan? I just…”
“But Ming Chunshan can’t protect you.” Ruan Zhuyun half-crouched down, looking directly into Xia Pingwu’s eyes. “Pingwu, resign. Let’s leave here together.”
Xia Pingwu’s unspoken words suddenly stopped.
Clutching Ming Chunshan’s hand, she looked straight at Ruan Zhuyun and heard her say, word by word:
“Preferably, the sooner, the better.”
“If Ming Chunshan is also willing… to leave completely, we can go together.”
“Deputy Xia,” a call suddenly came from the doorway. Xia Pingwu looked up. Ji Jie was waiting at the door for her. “Senior Mao Xiqing asked me to call for you.”
Xia Pingwu stood up and looked down at Ruan Zhuyun: “Yunyun, please stay here and watch over Chunshan for me. If Chunshan wakes up, call me immediately.”
Ruan Zhuyun tried to pull Xia Pingwu back, but Xia Pingwu had already quickly followed Ji Jie. Finally, even her figure was obscured by the medical room door.
“Did she say what it’s about?” Xia Pingwu looked up at Ji Jie.
Ji Jie was walking ahead of Xia Pingwu. Xia Pingwu couldn’t see her expression, only heard her dutifully relay: “Senior Mao Xiqing asked me to tell you that someone upstairs is looking for you.”
