Amnesiac Yandere Ex-Wife Always Wants to Remarry - Chapter 4
Chapter 4: Do Not Harm Her
Mao Xiqing was nervous, staring intently at the newcomer, deliberately lowering her voice:
“Team Leader Ming, there’s no need to communicate with it. It can’t possibly still have a consciousness.”
Almost simultaneously, the newcomer slowly raised its head.
A face so obscured it was unrecognizable appeared before everyone.
Flesh turned outward, covered in bl00d and filth.
Mao Xiqing was stunned, unsure whether to continue speaking to Ming Chunshan or to study this face with indistinguishable features.
All she knew was that it was human.
Ming Chunshan’s gun muzzle also paused.
Most humans had lived in cities for far too long. Once returned to the raw wildness of nature, their chances of survival were far inferior to natural beasts.
Therefore, even humans who had undergone Anomaly transformation found it hard to survive in the world of the Anomalies.
But this person in front of her…
Ming Chunshan was still hesitating when she suddenly heard the sound of shattered bones.
The person hunched their back like a leopard, agilely dropped onto all fours, and then lunged forward with an open mouth.
The posture was exactly like a predator in the wild, and it was even faster than them!
Ming Chunshan was the first to react. Several bursts of bullets fired one after another, but the person seemed completely oblivious, rushing right up to Ming Chunshan. It wasn’t until it was about to press against Ming Chunshan’s face that the team leader at the very front calmly ordered:
“Fire.”
In an instant, ten thousand arrows were unleashed. Bullets formed a circle, instantly riddling the person in the center like a beehive.
Yet, despite this, the person didn’t fall. They stumbled forward a few steps and collapsed onto Ming Chunshan.
The smell of bl00d quickly mixed with the stench of the corpse, sweeping over them. Mao Xiqing and the other team members screamed, scrambling to pull the person away, but Ming Chunshan coldly lowered her gaze.
She was already using her long gun to brace the person’s shoulder, preventing the person from touching her.
Her other hand was clenched into a tight fist, waiting for any sign of movement from the person, ready to deliver a fatal blow.
But the person made no small movements. In fact, they slowly, raised their face.
Mao Xiqing subconsciously pushed her gun muzzle forward.
Everyone knew the most typical trait of an Anomaly was the lack of consciousness. It was impossible…
Before she could finish her thought, the “Anomaly without consciousness” spoke. Every word was exceptionally clear:
“…Ming Chunshan.”
Everyone present froze.
On the other side, Xia Pingwu also subconsciously curled her fingers tight.
A moment later, as if exhausted, she collapsed back onto the headboard in vain.
She closed her eyes, trying to regain some strength, and her fingers fumbled around until they finally found her phone.
Lighting up the screen, she opened her chat with Ruan Zhujun, her fingers moving slightly, quickly typing something.
Then, she hesitated, deleting it little by little until it was clean.
She couldn’t ask.
Although she was almost certain that face… was Ning Cong.
But how could this be?
Ning Cong was supposed to be in the dungeon, wasn’t she?
But how could she ask Zhujun? If she told Zhujun that she had installed a camera, the deal she made with Aunt Ming would surely be exposed.
Just as she was hesitating, another loud crash suddenly came from the screen. She subconsciously looked up and saw the person, who had clearly been shot full of holes, suddenly violently slam into Ming Chunshan.
Ming Chunshan subconsciously retreated half a step. Then, the person immediately turned and vanished like a ghost outside the surveillance range of the encirclement.
The dense fog was too heavy. Xia Pingwu could only hear the surrounding footsteps immediately become chaotic, seeming to be in pursuit.
And almost simultaneously, perhaps due to the force of that impact, the monitor on Ming Chunshan’s body shook and fell directly to the ground.
In the last second before the camera went dark, Xia Pingwu saw Mao Xiqing closely following Ming Chunshan forward, stepping right onto the camera.
Xia Pingwu finally flipped her phone face down, her violently heaving chest betraying a rare unease.
It must be Aunt Ming’s doing. She had to ask for a clear explanation.
Thinking this, she turned and opened the screen of her laptop. The pale blue screen light shone on her face, but failed to illuminate her expression clearly.
In the quiet room, only the sound of Xia Pingwu almost frantically typing on the keyboard could be heard:
“Is that Ning Cong?”
The reply came quickly:
“She lost control and escaped. The trail won’t lead back to us.”
But this obviously did not soothe Xia Pingwu. She pursed her lips tightly and continued to type:
“I hope things are as you say if Chunshan encounters any accident, I will no longer follow your arrangements.”
“I hope things are as you say.” The sound that rang out was even heavier, as the floor-to-ceiling windows were covered by layers of dark curtains. “If Elder Sister encounters any accident, I will no longer believe any of your statements.”
“Don’t worry. This enhanced inhibitor will surely drain all of Xia Pingwu’s Anomaly power. She will no longer be troubled by the aftereffects.”
The person in the main seat crossed their legs, their gaze towards Ming Chunshan as cold as ever.
“However, it seems that increasing her wake time is interfering with your work.”
“…It won’t happen next time.” Ming Chunshan knew she was referring to sending Elder Sister home first. She paused, her tone softening slightly. “I haven’t seen Elder Sister in such good spirits for a long time. I’ll be careful from now on.”
“I know you’ve never trusted me, but now you should know that even though you are Ming Jianhong’s daughter, I am still willing to cooperate with you,” the higher-up’s voice held a hint of a gentle smile. “Go treat your injuries. The detection station will continue to pursue the Anomaly.
“After all, compared to the Anomaly’s escape, you probably don’t want to see Xia Pingwu leave, do you?”
Xia Pingwu certainly hadn’t left.
When Ming Chunshan returned home, Xia Pingwu was lying quietly on the bed, familiar needles attached to her wrists.
She took a few steps forward, expertly removed the needles, tucked the blanket around Xia Pingwu, and then quietly went out to shower.
When she returned to the master bedroom, Xia Pingwu was already awake, rubbing her eyes and looking towards her:
“Chunshan, you’re back.”
Ming Chunshan climbed onto the bed, moved to sit in front of Xia Pingwu, and stroked the hair at her temples: “Elder Sister, how does your body feel?”
“A little tired, but it’s okay.” Xia Pingwu half-covered her eyes, faintly glancing at Ming Chunshan’s collar, and continued, “Don’t worry.”
Ming Chunshan lay down sideways, pressing tightly against Xia Pingwu: “Elder Sister, I just got back from the lab with the enhanced inhibitor today. Let me give you an injection.”
“Okay.”
The cold medicinal fluid flowed into her body through the needle. Xia Pingwu lay very still, her eyes half-closed, watching Ming Chunshan carefully monitor the flow rate of the needle.
She paused, then called her softly: “Chunshan.”
Ming Chunshan looked up and met her gaze.
Chunshan was wearing home clothes, looking much softer than she did during the day, but Xia Pingwu could feel the noticeable callus on the pad of the hand holding hers.
Unknowingly, Chunshan had long since grown into an Anomaly specialist capable of handling things on her own.
…Perhaps she had noticed it long ago.
During countless similar late nights, when Chunshan was in front of her, when their skin touched.
But at this moment, the feeling was suddenly pronounced.
She wanted to ask her about Ning Cong, about the subsequent developments, and… whether she was hurt.
But she couldn’t bring herself to ask.
She had no standing, and no courage.
Ming Chunshan, however, immediately misunderstood Xia Pingwu’s meaning:
“…Elder Sister, I might not have time these few days.”
She lowered her gaze again, gently rubbed Xia Pingwu’s wrist, remained silent for a moment, and then slowly continued,
“Once everything is handled… I’ll go see her with you.”
Xia Pingwu was startled and subconsciously tried to lift her fingers, but the pressure from Ming Chunshan’s hand pressed her back down. The latter belatedly realized something, released her grip, and looked up at her in confusion:
“Elder Sister?”
Xia Pingwu had already turned her hand over, lightly touched the back of Ming Chunshan’s hand, then shook her head:
“Take care of yourself.”
“I will.” Ming Chunshan lowered her head again, steadily removed and dealt with the needle, then leaned close to Xia Pingwu’s cheek, her tone brightening slightly. “Elder Sister, I’m being so obedient, reward me a little.”
Their eyes met. Xia Pingwu looked at Ming Chunshan’s vibrant and bright features, reached out, and touched the top of Ming Chunshan’s head:
“Good Chunshan.”
As soon as she drew her hand back, Ming Chunshan pressed in, her forehead against hers:
“Elder Sister, don’t be mad at me. Kiss me.”
Xia Pingwu pressed her lips together. The hand that was about to pull away turned back, tucked the loose strands of Ming Chunshan’s hair behind her ear, then rubbed her earlobe, finally shaking her head:
“Not tonight. I’ll make it up to you twice next time, how about that?”
“I don’t want that. Elder Sister is just unhappy. Elder Sister doesn’t like me anymore.”
The person on top of her was persistent, even bowing her head to rub her fuzzy crown against Xia Pingwu’s neck, like a large dog begging for affection.
Xia Pingwu didn’t pull away. She opened her arms and embraced Ming Chunshan’s entire body. A huge wave of fatigue swept over her. She stroked the back of Ming Chunshan’s head rhythmically, and when she spoke again, it was already a vague murmur:
“Good Chunshan, rest early.”
However, the following days saw no progress on the matter of Ning Cong.
Xia Pingwu found it hard to get more information from Aunt Ming, but she learned a thing or two from Ming Chunshan’s increasingly late arrival times home.
Because of the Bureau of Anomalies business, Ming Chunshan couldn’t return home, but the needles needed to be removed on time, a task that naturally fell to Ruan Zhujun.
So, when Xia Pingwu woke up, she saw Ruan Zhujun secretly injecting her with a waking agent.
Xia Pingwu couldn’t be exposed to Anomaly power. Every time Ruan Zhujun came to remove the needles, she would wear a heavy protective suit, driven by her deputy, Gu Ce.
Now, Ruan Zhujun, hidden inside the heavy protective suit, saw Xia Pingwu finally open her eyes, immediately turned to lock the bedroom door, and then began to “rustle” out of the protective suit:
“The combat squad let the Anomaly escape when they were trying to eliminate it. Now they can’t find it anywhere. The Bureau of Anomalies is in chaos. Aunt Ming wants you to take this opportunity to go to the dungeon.”
Xia Pingwu expertly began to remove her clothes, then put on Ruan Zhujun’s protective suit:
“What’s the matter? Is the Anomaly’s escape related to Aunt Ming?”
Ruan Zhujun had already changed clothes and settled into the bed, following Xia Pingwu’s routine. Hearing the question, she shook her head honestly:
“I don’t know, but I haven’t heard Aunt Ming assign any new tasks recently, so it shouldn’t be her doing.”
Xia Pingwu paused, then still asked:
“Chunshan is coming home later and later. Are they still clueless about the Anomaly’s escape?”
Ruan Zhujun shook her head again, genuine worry in her eyes:
“This Anomaly seems to be human, and may even have a consciousness. Everyone is very anxious. If it can be saved, maybe…”
She didn’t finish, but Xia Pingwu understood. The current higher-ups used pollution value as the standard. If that Anomaly’s pollution value could be reversed with an inhibitor, it might not have to die.
Hearing Ruan Zhujun say this, Xia Pingwu felt a little relieved.
At least, Ruan Zhujun still didn’t know about Ning Cong.
That made sense. The plan between her and Aunt Ming was too shocking, so Aunt Ming wouldn’t easily tell a third person about related matters.
Since Ruan Zhujun was still unaware, it seemed the situation wasn’t completely irreversible.
Xia Pingwu stood up, adjusted the protective suit she was wearing, and deliberately lowered her voice:
“How is Ning Cong?”
“You should find out once you get there today.”
Ruan Zhujun paused, reaching out to grasp Xia Pingwu’s wrist,
“Gu Ce is in the basement. She’ll take you.”
Xia Pingwu nodded, gave the protective suit a final check, and turned the bedroom doorknob.
In the basement, a few cars were parked, with only one flashing its lights, waiting for someone’s arrival.
Xia Pingwu quickened her pace. As soon as she pulled open the car door, she saw the figure in the driver’s seat.
Logistics Deputy Gu Ce wore her signature hat, the brim almost covering her entire face. Only her eyes were just barely lifted, and she called out to her with restraint: “Team Leader Ruan.”
Xia Pingwu merely nodded and silently got in.
Gu Ce steadily started the car and replied: “Team Leader Ruan, I’ve already contacted Therapist Qiao Lang. She will be waiting for us at the dungeon.”
Xia Pingwu propped her chin on her hand, her gaze habitually falling out the window, and nodded without speaking.
Gu Ce, however, seemed to know what she wanted to ask and continued:
“The pollution value in the dungeon is relatively stable, but we can’t get too much signal equipment down there, so it’s safer for you to inspect it personally.”
After answering, Gu Ce subconsciously glanced into the rearview mirror at Xia Pingwu, then added:
“After all, it’s best not to have any more heroines who have to be forcibly dealt with, like Ning Cong.”
